Very funny reply. I can relate with your situation dear and it can be very frustrating.
Mine will start asking for the where about of his things even before making an attempt to look for it.
Most times I pretend I didn't hear him ,he will then go and pick it where he kept it.

FACTS TO KNOW ABOUT "OKA"

1. The "soft hole or space" often erroneously believed to be an abnormality is A NORMAL PART of the baby's head. It is called ANTERIOR FONTANELLE (AF).

Every baby has it. It is there to allow along with the small spaces (sutures) between the different bones of the skull to accommodate the baby's brain growth. So it is not "OKA" or any oth noer thing....It is a normal part of the baby's head.

2. The anterior fontanelle (AF) is covered by a membrane, and this membrane is what actually separates the baby's brain from the environment. It is that important! So any application of substances that can damage this membrane will lead to exposure of the brain to the environment with serious consequences like in the story above.


3. The fact that in some babies, very hairy or chubby especially, that you can not see it pulsating or "breathing" in local naija parlance does not mean it is not there. Some mums have actually said their babies do not anterior fontanelle! That is not true....every baby is born with one!

4. The size and shape of the AF varies from one baby to another normally. In some conditions, it can be too big. Also the anterior fontannelle can be elevated "bulging" in some conditions especially if the baby has infections in the brain. It can be depressed "sunken" in other conditions like in babies that are very dehydrated or malnourished.

Please note that in these conditions, it is not the AF causing the disease symptoms (for example diarrhoea and dehydration with sunken AF). Rather, the AF is just reflecting the fact that something is wrong in the body systems.

It is important to say this because this is one of the reasons some mums believe in "OKA". Such babies are sick and may either have prominent or sunken AF in addition to other symptoms. The "OKA doctors" will now say it is the "oka" causing the symptoms.

The danger of this belief is all treatments will be directed to the AF and the underlying disease causing the change in AF will be ignored. Also some of the native medications often use d have dangerous side effects and consequences especially on the immature liver and kidneys of the babies causing further damage...."fry pan to fire" scenario!!!

5. The AF closes on its own by age of 18 - 24 months. This is because more than 90% of brain growth and development has occurred by the age of 2 years. You did not need to do anything about it. It happens on its own. Just to note that some diseases can cause delay in closure of the AF. See your paediatrician if you can still feel the AF in your baby after age 2 years.

6. You did not need to apply oil to the AF hourly or daily....highly unnecessary and the dripping oil will cause rashes on the baby's face. The AF is not "drying up" like many naija mums believe. You also do not need to put thread from cloth. You also do not need to mop AF with hot water or apply any substances local or herbal on it. JUST LEAVE THE AF ALONE!!!

7. Finally if your baby is sick with or without observed changes in the AF, please go to the Hospital immediately. Don't assume and don't accept the "OKA" diagnosis. Please see your doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment. A stitch in time saves nine!

Plz help my 7weeks old son farts a lot (even in his sleep). I tried cuttn down gas inducing food like beans et al but he still farts. Wat can I do to stop ds excessive fart or is it normal ni?
He also stretches a lot. Sm1 said its d navel.

Plkz advice me on d use of kanfura's water for navel b4 I use for him. Is it still healthy n good.

My son had the same issue but when I complained to his paed, she told me to always place him on my shoulder and rub his back to burp after every feed.
Since I started that the gas has reduced drastically.

As for the stretching, mine was a professional in that, at that age and I was never worried about it, in fact it was fun watching him do that. He is 14wks now but rarely does that. Unless other sabi mamas have something to say in contrally, worry not ur pretty head about that.

On the kanfura's water, no idea.

Good morning beautiful mothers and handsome fathers of great kids,finally caught up with this thread. I want to specially thank you yes "me" reading this for keeping this thread alive gracias.
Concerning weaning kids with my first lo I weaned him with just water(whenever he wakes up I give him water and he sleeps off,I guess I was lucky it worked for me but hubby never believed it will work,he wanted me to do the tea,juice thing naaaa),as for feeding in all sincerety I never bought a tin of any cereal for him,his meals where basically pap with formula,family meals with few twerks and we were just fine,he will be 4yrs by Nov 4th.Today will be the first time he will take cornflakes(dh bought it yesterday after he complained I don't give his children oyibo food lol) I hope he likes it.
For pp weight loss we cannot do everything but we can do something,personally am not a gym rat so I do home workouts. You can do skipping(jumping rope) with weighted jump rope(if you can get it its good if not use normal one) I use personalised one(money must be saved) old electric wire not in use,I walk at least 15mins somedays(indoor-walking to and fro of a long corridor,leslie sansone walk at home or outdoors),for arm exercise I use personalised dumbells(get two empty eva big water bottle,fill with sand and cover each should weigh 2kg or more depending on the type of sand,then two small fanta bottles filled with same sand for a smaller one(though I don't use it).
This is the almighty of them all portion control,if you exercise and you dont eat clean the weights will never fall off so in summary eat clean train mean. Good morning.

@Onegai, thanks a lot for the encouragement. My baby is doing a lot better now. He has added 0.7kg in two weeks. Still has little difficulty in breathing due to mucus in his nose that had refused to come out(I have tried every home remedy I know, all to no avail).
Some said that it is possible the mucus was not sucked/drained out well at birth and that he will out grow it with time. Don't know how true that is.
He will be 3 months in two days time and still weights 4.5kg. I seriously want him to gain more weight fast. Can you suggest anything that can make this happen?.
Note: He is on BM and formula.

oh wow. Pele. I'm guessing his body was fighting a strong infection and his white blood cells couldn't increase fast enough (an elevated white blood cell count shows an infection. Think of more police showing up after a riot or robbery). Use all those mucus sucking bulbs and gently extract it and don't steam him. Just feed him normally and try and give him breastmilk in addition to formula, that's all you can do. He should start gaining weight now the infection has been fought. Well done for catching it on time.

Respiratory Tract Infections are usually a cause of lack of weight gain in babies. I know Ayolight had that issue and won, so you're gonna be fine. Just keep monitoring him and if things still don't look good in 2 weeks, mention me here (my email is acting up as usual).

I think u can also put d shea butter on her fontannel.
But my baby case is diff i think. Cos she was diagnosed of heart issue, so she was always battling respiratory issue. And im scared of d fan she cnt do without. Pls make sure u reduce d level at which d fan blows. But frm experience u can put d shea butter on her fontanel. Sorry my reply cane late. Just seeing d mention. Regards..

Just continue with the pcm in the recommended dose. Remove all his clothes . That is keep him naked except for his diaper. Then dab his body with lukewarm water. The temp will go down in a short while. Also check his temp at intervals. Hope you have thermometer at home? It's very important you check that constantly.
There is nothing to worry abt, it normal with 6wks immunization.

Also as per your lo not latching. I was once in your shoes. Its because he is already accustomed to bottle or cup nd spoon. What i did in my case was i forced her, my mum held her head while i was putting her to breast, we did that like twice and rite now am the one complaining of sucking.

About lactating I will advice you eat more after eating get a little rest then you pump tgen drink alot of water when i say alot then it means like every 20mins 1lit. I hope it helps. All the best sis

Sabi mamas, happy new month to you all. It has been a terrible time for me this past weeks. My baby (10wks) added only 0.1kg to his 6wks weight and this got me so worried that I had to take him to a ped.
He was diagnosed of respiratory tract infection and pcv level of 24.
In fact they had to transfuse him and kept on antibiotics for 9days(we were on admission for 2 days). It was the most scary days of my life but in all I give God all the glory that he is a lot better now though still having blocked nose as a result of mucus.
Pls great mums, I am still confused on how his blood level will drop so low with this his short life.
Any ideas, though the ped tried to explain to me but still confused.
Also, any ideas on how to get the mucus in his nose to start flowing or how do I extract it if it doesn't.
I also want him to gain wait as soon as possible, he is not on Ebf.

Danzak have you tried expressing breast milk so that your baby can get more? Or you look for another formula to try see if baby will accept it.

Yes dear, the Dr also advised me to be expressing milk which I started on Saturday night though I don't get more than 60ml but I now supplement with formula as advised by @Babythug.
His poo is no longer green, it has returned to the normal yellow/oily.

Baby D is doing a lot better now. The stooling has stopped.for now and I have tried feeding him a different formula last nite. Still observing him because of the green stool. Just pray that one will stop too.

Sorry about your lo, the green poo may be an indication that he is not getting the hind milk! that is, the creamy and fatty part of breast milk which comes after nursing for a while . Try and ensure baby feeds for longer on a breast before switching to the other.

Green poo may also signal an infection which could have caused the stooling in the first place, either ways just be watchful.

Pls, take him to d hospital, don't watch. also buy ORS (with zinc) inside d pack, how to administer is written at d back of d immunization card. He is healed in Jesus Name.

I have taken him to the hospital and I was given ORS,zinc tablet and Furoxetil, which I started administering immediately.
However,I noticed his poo has turned green since I started the hospital treatment. I have also stopped giving the formula as advised by the doc, only breast milk since yesterday.
What do you think could be the cause of that now.
Pls mamas, I urgently need your advice ASAP.

Good morning great mums, this is my first time here though I have been following up for a while now.
I urgently need your help! My 6wks 4days old baby has been stooling immediately after every meal since our 6 weeks immunization 2days ago.
Note, he is on formular and breast milk because I have less breast milk flow.
Pls I need urgent help because I am scared right now and he is my first after several yes of waiting.
