Im impressed when a young man (only 19) steps up and shows the composure of a seasoned professional, and his price range and effectiveness is exactly what the club should be aiming at in a sustainable manner. Whilst Lucas Moura has all the skill in the world, he is a blind player, and £32m is too big a risk for an unproven man straight from Brazil with a lot of deficiencies still in his game. Gone are the days when Brazilian talent first go to teams in Holland, Portugal etc to hone their skills before making big moves. Nowadays, they quote "World star" prices for unproven talent straight from Brazil. Moura reminds me so much of Quaresma, a player I so much loved only to discover that decision making was lacking in his game.

That said, it's time to build on from here. To be regarded as a true great, we need to win more and to win more, we need a re-build and the analysis begins from yesterday night's game. And I repeat, it was not a spectacle. It's not a case of taking anything away from anyone.


This is one of those cases where, it was bound to happen. Barcelona on another day, would have been 4-0 up at SB. Bayern could have been 4-0 up in the first half alone. What are the chances of Messi, and Robben missing penalties in successive games? Cech is not a penalty GK but he touched all 5 of the 6 penalty kicks against us. What are the chances. We had only one corner kick all game, we had only one shot on goal in first half and 3 shots on goal in 120 mins. It defies all odds that we won the CL. We shouldn't (and I am not ashamed to say that) but we did.

My point is, we have to step up from here and we cannot do so by playing the way we played against Barcelona and Bayern every season. You cannot build a philosophy on that. You can only win 'one' trophy in an awkward way in an awkward season. To win more trophies, there needs to be a rapid and total overhaul of philosophy.


We have a very big season ahead.

Pre-Season, Community Shield, Premier League, FA Cup, Carling Cup, Super Cup, World Club Championship and Champions League and don't forget we need to qualify for top four to meet the CL again which sustains our massive wages. You cannot do this without being realistic. Last night's game defines history but only has a little bearing on the future. Nottingham Forest have won the CL too.

The next season and beyond could easily be a disaster. We cannot afford to be sentimental about last night.
