it is not about health care being free in the states. it is about health care being acessible to all citizens. all british citizens have acess to quality health care (whatever you may say about the NHS it is one of the best health care systems in the world and ALL british citizens have acess to it.) where as not all american citizens can afford the health care you talk about. america needs a system (which obama and witch hillary wanted to introduce) that will cover all citizens. not necesarily the free health care UK style but will kind of cover all citizens.a policy that will make insurance affordable to all(dunno how he intends to do that)

america has a higher proportion of illiterates than the UK b/c in the UK education to college level is entirely free and those who passed well are entiltled to a loan (which many cant pay back and ends up being cancelled) many americans cant afford college education.

i was completely dissapointed with the roads i saw in the US especially in newark. i was stunned. no wonder obama insisted that gas tax holiday was BS as it removes the money for road maintainance.

the americans want change, i was there for two weeks and i some of the reasons they want change. if you think you know more than them then . . . you know now. . . . . ya head get wahala

when we say free health care, we mean ''free at the point of use''. of course there is some payment somewhere(tax). but free at the point of use means you dont have to pay for it when you need it.

advantage: if you have a sudden illness, you walk straight to the doctor. you dont have to say o i have no money today. i.e if it is an emergency you are rushed to the ER and given immediate treatment and no one worries you about money

disadvantage: long lists for medical conditions thatr are not emergencies. also people want to come for even cosmetic surgeries on tax payers money.

but knowing where i come from(naija) which i believe is where u came from too, i believe free health care could have saved millions of lives in nigeria today. and i mean millions. poverty makes people delay illness until it is almost death time and they rush to hospitals and even then they wont have the money to follow up medications. this has caused monumental mortality rates for even simple ailments like 'common' malaria. millions have died from this in naija.

the british wont worry about that kind of problem. americans covered with health insurance wont either, but what of those americans not covered? who cares for them? they are almost like the poor ones in nigeria.

mortality in the US is surely lower than in nigeria, but if you check the mortality of the low income uninsured in america, it is surely similar to 3rd world mortalities. you may not believe it.

talking about economy, under Bush, there has been massive job losses in the states. greater than any other time in recent history. compare that to the clinton era. or to the UK which, even as bad as it may seem , has had the best improved economy among the richest countries in recent years(all hail polish workaholic immigrants ) _j/jk

if you dont see an urgent need for a change in a country where the citizens, born and bred(who know their country better than you, immigrant). . republicans and democrats as well as independents are saying the country is in a downward trend, then something is wrong with you.

in the UK college is practically free. some places in scotland and even wales pay their citizens to go to college.

dont know if you've been to the UK, but socio-economic gap in the uk is so small. the rich are not so much richer than the poor. go to the average UK city and looka at the rich vs poor neighbourhoods. no big difference. except the prices the neighbourhoods are very similar


health in the UK is free for everyone. universal health care. in the us, many cant afford a serious illness that may need surgery. i have seen cases where people could not afford surgery and were left to die. it cant happen in the UK, b/c it is free.

when little george came to the white house he made some changes in education loans that made it hard for some people to take loans for education. these were things clinton had put in place. but b/c he needed money to sponsor a war he cut education funding.

there is a need to ''national mantra'' to get the changes in medical care for veterans b/c this 'works' have been going on for almost 8 yrs without any change. vets are dying in numbers and little george is dancing in the white house .

if you dont notice the decline in US economy, job losses, inflation, housing crisis, etc, then you are in real cerebral poverty
