Switch to first direct using TopCashBack. You get a total of £220.00 (£45.00 from TopCashBack and £175.00 from first direct). I think you will need to deposit £1,000.00 and set three DD. There is a post on r/beermoneyuk about setting up DD that counts towards the switch with little or no money. TSB switch offer amongst other benefits like £100 cash reward to your account when you complete switch includes a £120 hotel voucher to use in 2026. T&C's apply but this time unlike before, you do not need to setup direct debits.
Unfortunately, I do not qualify because I already switched to TSB less than 2 years ago.
If you know any other banks offering switch incentives please share updates 😊 |

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this before, but you can earn extra cash by checking out this subreddit r/beermoneyuk and also using an app called TopCashBack. There are others, but I use TopCashBack
Between October 2024 and present, I have earned about £611.00 from cash back.
ISA cash back from shepherds friendly, purchase from curry’s and switching to first direct. Apart from the £611.00 I have received, I still have £100.00 pending from Scottish friendly, £30.00 pending from chip and another £70 from Charles Stanley Direct.
Except for my purchase from curry’s and switch to first direct, the rest is just opening ISA account with monthly direct debit and waiting for the cashback to track to payable. |

If you have small money and doing DIY, I don’t think it is. I will check out your suggestions. Thanks ukay2: I think it is still a good deal......try and build your portfolio above the £32k mark to continue to enjoy the low charges.
I use Freetrade, T212 and Moneybox..... |

Abi, the percentage they currently charge works for us with small money. Just weird about the sudden change as they pride themselves as the lowest-cost option for smaller DIY investors seeking some choice. Viruses: Instead of charging those with plenty money, they are charging those with small money...what kind of wahala is that |

I will check them out. Thanks. jedisco: This has been a good resource to compare brokers though there might be a lag in updating numbers.

I used to used Invest Engine which is flexible and free. This year, I used Trading212 for my S&S ISA due to a rebate they were offering. The platform fee is also free so one has to pay fund fees.
My SIPP is still with Vanguard though, as I like the peace of mind it gives though I may change it soon if I see a good offer. |

Can anyone recommend a similar platform to Vanguard? They want to start charging customers £4.00 per month if they have below £32,000.00 in their account (Stocks and Shares ISA, General Account or Personal Pension (SIPP)). |

zxxtx: Please is there any app I can use to call Naija or how can I call Naija. Calling directly from my EE is expensive If you have an Airtel SIM card that is still functioning, you can use that. They charge N38.00 per minute if you call Nigeria with it from the UK. And if you recharge I think N3,000.00, you get I around hundred plus free incoming call minutes. So you can recharge their line back home to call your number at normal rate and you receive the call for free here. I have been using them for months now. Sometimes, the voip calls can be frustrating due to the recipient poor reception.

those wey get liver de do Super Priority or Priority ...big boys and gehs wen wan japa on empty POF. I pray next September is not difficulty to those applying then cos things fit hard. On some telegram forum you could see its like people don't research about the schools anymore - they just find out the initial deposit, an agent apply for them and boom off the go ....those will be the set of Naijas that would drop out of school deliberately in the UK. Sad! This is the problem I have with a lot of students going to study in the UK. For example, I know for a fact in my class, more than 70% of them can’t get a job with the degree because they have no idea of what they are studying. It infuriates me a lot. And when I ask them why this course, didn’t you check it out before applying, are you telling me you didn’t go through the course modules explained in details on the university website before applying? They take it really really personal. Imagine a class where almost 50% are having one resit or the other in just a semester, and then some resitting three to four modules in one semester. It really touches my soul because I have no idea what they will do after the course after spending so much money to get degree that they can’t use. |

monfizzy: ExpressVPN isn’t free. They’re saying set up payment after a 7-day trial. Is there any free VPN you can recommend? Thanks You can try Windscribe. They offer 10.00GB per month free and they also offer something called build a plan. Billed $1.00 per location, per month and it’s unlimited. So you can just add one or two locations and you are set. They are pretty reliable and they don’t keep logs. I used a promo code to bump my plan to free 50.00GB per month few years ago. I think there are still some out there if you know where to look. |

The requirements for SIA is not that long again. You can easily apply for the badge one month after you enter the UK sef, even weeks if you have the documents they require.
What they require now is proof of English, First Aid certificate, a two group documents, passport photograph and police character report from Nigeria if you are a Nigerian.
Group A: you are required to submit means of identification e.g BRP, driver’s license, passport and etc.
Group B: you are required to submit two documents that confirms your identity and your address e.g bank statement, credit card statement, council tax bill, letter from council and etc.
Training is usually around £430.00 ish plus and badge around £190.00 or so. The training is usually a week and it takes around two months for the license to be issued.
It’s pretty straightforward and direct to get if one is willing to invest £620.00 plus into it.
Different companies offer this service eg getlicensed, f1training and etc |

Amarathripple0: Good morning elders,
Please I would like to find out if this is discrimination or if I’m just overreacting. The gist is, I tried to order a laptop worth £800+ from John Lewis using the PayPal pay in 3 option. Mind you I’ve used this feature multiple times on other stores without issues. Anyway, John Lewis sent me an email saying the order has been cancelled because I failed security check. I called John Lewis to confirm why this happened and the customer service rep told me that it’s probably because I used paypal but I should either try again or pay at once. I decided to try again, same PayPal and the same thing happened. Now here’s where it got interesting, I randomly decided to go through my LinkedIn and noticed that a staff of John Lewis in their frauds department had gone through my LinkedIn Profile. I didn’t think anything of it and since I needed a new laptop urgently, I decided to just pay at once and order it with my debit card, which I did and approved the payment on my Barclays app. However the same thing happened again; I was rejected a third time. So the fact that a staff from their frauds department went through my page and I still got rejected a third time is giving me signals that they concluded that I must be a fraudster or something perhaps because I’m black African because how do I get rejected a third time for trying to pay for a service with instant debit from my account that has more than enough funds for the laptop. I’ve spoken to John Lewis about this and about a staff from their fraud unit going through my LinkedIn page and they keep feigning clueless and they said they’ll contact me but they haven’t. My friend thinks I should speak to a lawyer about it but I think that’s a bit intense. Should I just ignore and move on from this or should I report this as consumer discrimination. I’m confused. Are you a first time customer with John Lewis when you try to place the order? If yes, that’s what they usually do. I use to work there as a backend staff. They usually flag a first time customer ordering something expensive. Normally, what we do is to call and ask some questions and if satisfied, the order get released from hold or the order get cancelled and we wait and see if the customer will call back/email and place the order again. You will be surprise about the number of orders placed on this posh stores website using stolen cards. It happens to all races there. The LinkedIn own, me I don’t know about that one. I will say a staff from the fraud department got curious when trying to verify your identity. |

Solumtoya: Oh, nice. I can see two people have used my link. One person is yet to order the card though.
If you're the one who has ordered the card, all that is left is for you to perform 3 transactions of minimum £5 each. You can either use the virtual card and link it to your phone so you can just tap the phone to pay, otherwise, you wait for the card to arrive next week.
Let me know how I can get your Account Number and Sort Code to send your 25 quids. Okay. I will send you an email request. |

Solumtoya: Revolut is giving out £50 Referral bonus for referrals in the next 3 weeks. The person has to order a card for £4 and do 3 transactions of minimum £5 each. I usually share the referral bonus I get sonthe £25 will cover all you spend.
Whether you use my code or not, Revolut bas been my most reliable Bank for transactional purposes. The features I love most are the speed of International transfers (I can send money to US or Canada or most Countries and recipients get it same day) and their disposable virtual card for security.
Revolut has been doing these bonuses in past 4 months. Unfortunately, it has been reducing monthly from £500 down to £50 now.
My referral code: https://revolut.com/referral/jedidi9xv3!APR1-22-AR Used your link and ordered the card. How do we settle the rest? |

Those ikeja people are something else I am. Ah, the ikeja people are somehow. VI allowed me to enter and even write my name down without the collection email. We were all waiting and hoping when collection email dropped for everyone. Me I went there when I saw moved to VAC. I was ready to wait there until the collection email dropped. And the funny thing, they did not ask to show prove of the collection email, they just asked if you receive one or not. You should have hanged around abit. |

Mande674: @ darknessbegone please did you get collection mail before going to pick up ?? And did track online and it says move to VAc ? Pls a response so we can know what to do next Yes I tracked it this morning around 11:00am and saw moved to VAC, so I decided to head there without getting a collection email that at all at all we must settle it today. Got there around 2:30pm ish and wrote down my name for collection. As I was waiting with other people, collection email dropped. That’s how I picked it up. Was able to pick up within five minutes that the collection email dropped. They have a lot of peoples passport there and they just update the tracker at the pace they like. The passports were arranged on the collection table when the email dropped. I know because I was second in line to collect. |
