Politics › Reps Allege Lopsidedness In Navy Recruitment, Demand Suspension Of Exercise by DarlingtonC(op): 8:24am On Jul 15, 2021 |
The House of Representatives has said the ongoing recruitment exercise by the Nigerian Navy is unfair and not in compliance with the federal character principle in the Constitution, asking the military outfit to suspend the process. The House particularly resolved to “direct the Nigerian Navy to suspend forthwith the forthcoming pre-screening exercise for the shortlisted candidates, with a view to strengthening the federal character law as well as to ensure better and more vigorous enforcement and implementation, knowing full well that every Nigerian deserves to be treated with dignity and rights, irrespective of where they may be located physically in the country.” Also, the House requested the Navy to provide details of all recruitments from 2014 to date, showing their geographical spread. Furthermore, the House mandated the Committee on Navy to “investigate the exercise and recommend appropriate measures to avoid similar constitutional violations in all future government recruitment and report back within 12 weeks for further legislative action.” These resolutions were sequel to the unanimous adoption of a motion of urgent public importance to investigate the process of the Nigerian Navy Supplementary Recruitment of 44 candidates “for being against the principle of federal character and in gross violation of Section 14 of the 1999 Constitution.” Sponsor of the motion, Ben Igbakpa, said all the successful candidates that are to report for training in two batches at the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School Onne, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, “are all from a particular part of the country, which negates the federal character principle of all inclusiveness, equity and fair play.” Citing Section 14(3) of the 1999 Constitution, the lawmaker noted the underlying purpose of the principle in a multi-ethnic society as Nigeria is to ensure equal participation of the various ethnic extractions in the governance of the country. According to him, the principle is also aimed at preventing the domination by one or some ethnic groups in the affairs of the country and the exclusion of other ethnic groups. Igbakpa said, “The House is worried that, however, in practice, the principle appears to have been observed more in breach. Appointments and recruitments into the various ministries, departments and agencies both at the federal and state levels by successive administrations seem to be treated as a matter of political discretion, and those with the appointment and recruitment powers do not feel a legal duty to ensure an equitable spread of appointments and recruitments into the various government bodies. “The House is further worried that this recruitment Supplementary list of 44 candidates, since it became public knowledge, has created a lot of tension, apprehension and discourse within the young and old from the deprived section. “The House believes that adequate observance and implementation of the federal character principle will in no small measure allay fears of domination and denial by the ethnic minorities and invariably foster national unity.” https://punchng.com/reps-allege-lopsidedness-in-navy-recruitment-demand-suspension-of-exercise/?amp |

Romance › Re: Romantic Day Out: Nairaland Couple Go To The Beach. by DarlingtonC: 7:41pm On Jul 11, 2021 |
sirjamesjnr: To be honest, I was amazed when I saw that Beach. I will never believe they is a clean Beach in Lagos known how Lagos environment is. Apart from the Island( VI, Koyi and lekki) one will notice Lagos is a glorified slum. Hello,Ife mi,I am glad you came into my life. There are still beautiful soul ( ladies) in Nigeria but My love you have to understand, with all the negative impact Lagosan has contribute to the image of this country I am already been advised that when you are in Lagos:
Wake up early to beat traffic. Go home late /early to beat traffic. If not, you can never be productive in Lagos. You might end up spending all your day in Lagos traffic. Always tell at least one person where you are. Lagos is not a place to play coded games. Average person in Lagos will always try to take advantage of you, have a backup plan should you be in a funny place or in a funny situation.
If you are taking public transport, always shout the name of your bus stop before you get there. Lagos bus drivers are not nice. They always drunk and dirty.
When taken public transport, always make sure you have smaller currency when going out. You might end up being cheated by Lagos bus conductors. Twice uber driver has steal from me.Transport system in Lagos is has a long way to go.
The worst thing that can happen to you is to buy 1 gala in traffic and the seller run away with your 450 naira change. So always make sure you collect your gala and balance before paying.
When you want to cross the road look left, look right, look left again and right again, left again, right again. You can be killed by a reckless drunk driver.
Being gentle sometimes can be seen as weakness in Lagos. Learn to act like an “agbero"too. So called friends will cash out on you.( making you spend amount you never budget. Imagine arranging a sex worker for you when you not even in the mode just to rip you off) Average man in Lagos whether rich or poor is a cheat. So annoying they always seem so sophisticated (I too know). So many unpleasant experience swhich makes me always uncomfortable coming into Lagos
Always add traffic time to any appointment you're making.I have had to cancel flight last minute because of heavy traffic. Till I learned the hard way.
Be friendly. Acting to porsh and Behind wont help you. Though this can get you into trouble but you can have a lot of knowledge and fun when you act like you from the street. With all these experiences and stories about Lagos, I was amazed at how the beach was so organise, the food, the cleanliness and orderliness. In all our outing, landmark experience was the best. I will always cherish the memory. Still doing my research on how I can give you an amazing experience when next we plan out vacation. I have this to say to those who believe in love, be in love with someone who believe in you, has more than average IQ, was raise from a decent home, and above all has some prospect in life. Yes Lagos is improving. Be a man and marry her if she's the best thing that happened to you |

Monogamy: Nobody should blame Buhari again about all this loans.
Those good for nothing House of reps and Senate that are stamping the proposal by presidency all the time should be held accountable.
The funniest part, nothing like Northerners, Southerners, Religion, ethnicity or tribe. They are same Because the Senate leadership was foisted on Nigerians by Buhari and Tinubu, that's why. They have to do their bidding irrespective of the consequences on the country |

Ogoni leaders should discuss within themselves and give them lands to settle...

Just give them large expanse of land for settlement and all these crying will stop. That's how strangers will collect your own personal lands and houses forcibly. And you'll leave it for them as a good man |
