Brave UNN Student Finds Deadly Black Forest Cobra In His Room, Kills It

In a daring encounter that could have ended in tragedy, a student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), demonstrated tremendous courage and presence of mind when he found a long black forest cobra beside his bed.

With the help of a friend, he successfully eliminated the venomous reptile, averting a potential disaster.

The incident took place yesterday afternoon in Ogwashi Obukpa community, not very far from UNN Vet Road When Ebuka, a 21-year-old undergraduate studying Combined Biological Sciences at UNN, found himself face-to-face with a long snake identified as a forest cobra in his room.

Without hesitating, Ebuka swiftly contacted a friend, who rushed in with a long pole and with his help, they were able to kill the venomous reptile.

When interviewed about the experience, Ebuka expressed relief that the situation was handled without harm to himself or others. In his words

"I am still shocked but I'm glad that it's all over now and I give God all the glory. I just laid down on my bed when I observed a long black figure at the side of my bed and looking closely, I was face-to-face with a big snake. It was a horrible incident but thank God I'm safe. You all should stay safe out there too"

The general public are advised to be on the lookout for these creeping animals in their environment and take adequate measures to ensure safety.

Men from the Ondo State Police Command detained one Mrs Esther Godwin after she allegedly poured boiling water on Endurance Samuel, whom she accused of having extramarital affairs with her husband.

The incident took place in the state's Idanre Local Government Area.

When questioned about the incident, Samuel insisted that she had no romantic relationship with the suspect's spouse and said that she had worked as a labourer on the farm alongside her husband.

"Esther phoned me from the tailoring school where I was enrolled to come pick up the palm oil that her husband owes me. I also provide employment for her husband and a few other local farmers.

The suspect’s husband, Godwin, also denied having any affair with the victim.

“I am the one paying for the victim’s treatment at the hospital since the incident happened till date,” he said.

The incident happened on Friday night at Ifite village in Awka, the State capital.

This reporter, Izunna Okafor, gathered that the lecturer who belonged to the Psychology Department, simply identified as Chima, was murdered shortly after a brief argument with his houseboy, which led to a fight between the two.

This was corroborated by videos currently trending on the social media, which show the suspect as he confessed to have truly killed the lecturer with a pestle.

He said, “When he came back, he told me to cook rice. And as I was cooking the rice, he asked me why I did not wash plates. I did not reply him anything. And then, he further asked why I wasn’t responding to his question.

Six boys arrested in Anambra for Gang raping a 19- year old girl

Six individuals have been arrested in Anambra, Nigeria, on charges of gang raping a 19-year-old girl in Anam, Anambra West Local Government Area. The suspects, identified as Afam Ezenwa, Chijioke Ifeanyi, Collins Obadom, Abuchi Okechukwu, Chima Obiekezie, and Sunday Okafor, are aged between 16 and 27. The incident took place when the victim visited her maternal home in Oramaetiti and was ambushed by the boys.

According to the victim, despite her pleas, the suspects forcibly took her into a room where they took turns raping her. Shockingly, one of the perpetrators filmed the assault. The victim was eventually rescued by neighbors who heard her cries for help, after which she returned home safely.

However, on her way back home, the victim encountered another group of boys who harassed her, threatened her life, and demanded that she remove her pants. The boys fled with her undergarments after a Good Samaritan intervened.

The victim's mother disclosed that her daughter was the third victim of these criminals, who have gained notoriety for raping girls and collecting their undergarments for ritual purposes. She called on the state government to take the case seriously, as her daughter's life is at risk, especially since her pants have not been recovered.

Confirming the incident, Ify Obinabo, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, stated that the suspects have been arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka, where they will face charges.

Obinabo expressed her concern over the alarming rate of crime among delinquents in Anambra and urged parents and guardians not to spare disciplinary measures, emphasizing the importance of addressing such issues.

Crime"We Were To Kill Apostle Suleman During The Attack"- Suspect Confesses by Darlingtonwrite(op): 7:44am On Jul 14, 2023
Police authorities, on Thursday, in Abuja paraded no fewer than 20 suspects arrested for offences including conspiracy, attempted murder, murder, kidnapping, armed robbery and possession of illicit drugs among others.

One of the suspects is 32-year-old Yusuf Isah who was arrested in connection with the October 2022 attack on the General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, Apostle Johnson Suleman.

The suspect, in an interview with journalists, admitted that the attack on the cleric was meant to assassinate him.

Gunmen attacked the convoy of the cleric along the Benin-Auchi Road in Edo State and killed six persons, including three policemen.

Addressing journalists while parading the suspect and others in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said operatives of the Intelligence Rapid Team arrested Isah following an intensive investigation.

Isah told journalists that he and his gang members trailed the pastor to the point where he was attacked with five AK 47 riffles.

He said, The attack on him (Suleman) was to assassinate him. I was not part of the discussion; Ilayasu and Labisca were the ones involved in the discussion.

“We attacked him with five AK 47 rifles. Labisca trailed him from where he was coming from to the point where we attacked him.”

The police spokesman confirmed that five AK 47 riffles, two K2 rifles and 180 live ammunition were recovered from the suspect.

“Following an intensive investigation into the fatal attack on the convoy of Apostle Johnson Suleman along Benin-Auchi Road wherein six people, including three police personnel, were gruesomely murdered, operatives of FIB-IRT on the trail of the assailants apprehended one Yusuf Isah, a native of Okene, Kogi State and a plumber, at Agbaraoluwa Phase 2 Ijoka, Akure, Ondo State and recovered five AK 47 rifles, two K2 assault rifles, 180 live ammunition and four suspected IEDs found in his apartment,” Adejobi said.

The FPRO said some of the rifles found with the suspect were snatched from the three policemen killed during the attack.

He said the suspect confessed that the gang abducted an oil magnate and a businessman for whom N70m and N2m were respectively paid for their freedom.

Adejobi added, “The suspect confessed that he joined the vicious gang in 2021 after he was freed from Olokuta Correctional Centre where he was on remand since 2019 for alleged involvement in armed robbery.

“The group specialises in kidnapping for ransom and has carried out about four kidnapping operations between 2021 and 2023, including the attack on the convoy of the cleric before the gang was eventually busted by the police.

“The suspect confessed that the gang was responsible for the kidnap of a popular oil dealer at Jetu, Auchi in 2022, where they obtained a ransom of about N70m before his release. The gang equally carried out the kidnapping of a businessman along the Benin-Agbor Expressway in 2022 and collected N20m as ransom from the victim’s family.”

He, however, said two members of the seven-man gang were gunned down in separate encounters with the police, adding that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects who are still at large.

HealthNigeria May Record 700,000 Unwanted Pregnancies In 2023- UNDP by Darlingtonwrite(op): 6:53am On Jul 12, 2023
Nigeria may record 700,000 Unwanted Pregnancies in 2023- UNDP

According to the United Nations Population Fund, the nation's difficulty in affording family planning may result in an increase in unintended pregnancies and abortions.

This was said at a celebration of World Population Day in 2023 held by the National Population Commission on Tuesday in Abuja.

Dr. Adeela Khan, Technical Specialist, Maternal & Reproductive Health, UNDP, stated that the funding gap for family planning was growing, rising from $25 million last year to $32 million in 2023, during a panel discussion titled "Dialogue on financing and investment in family planning: meeting the growing demand of Nigerian women."

She claimed that this lack of funds will result in 700,000 unwanted pregnancies, 300,000 unplanned births, and 300,000 unsafe abortions.

Family planning programmes are heavily reliant on funding, and that funding is decreasing, she said. Until 2022, there was a $25 million shortfall. We anticipate having a $32 million shortfall this year. There will be 700,000 unexpected pregnancies, which will lead to roughly 300,000 unintentional births and 300,000 unsafe abortions, which is a very crucial aspect of this gap.

The National Policy for Population and Sustainable Development in 2022, for example, as well as the government's financial commitment to ensure family planning, are just a few examples of the government's efforts, according to Khan.

The Nigerian government has started acknowledging the value of funding family planning, she continued.

Dr. Gafar Alawode, a seasoned public health practitioner who spoke on the panel as well, described the nation's growing population as frightening.

He continued by saying it was bad that the population was expanding more quickly than the economy.

According to Alawode, Nigeria produces an annual amount comparable to that of Liberia, Togo, and possibly Sierra Leone put together. Our population is expanding more quickly than our economy, which makes it more risky. The inference is that while wealth is not growing, the population consuming it is. This implies that a smaller portion goes to each person. And the capital of poverty is already Nigeria.

Dr. Natalia Kanem, the UNFPA Executive Director, who was in attendance and being represented by Ms. Erika Goldson, the UNFPA Nigeria Acting Resident Representative, stated that 19% of married women in Nigeria were unable to exercise their freedom to make decisions, particularly in relation to having children.

She added that women needed to be empowered and that doing so would improve human capital and inclusive economic growth.

The foundation for gender equality, dignity, and opportunity, she asserted, is the realisation of sexual and reproductive health and rights for all. However, 19% of married women in Nigeria and over 40% of women worldwide are unable to exercise their freedom to decide something as fundamental as whether or not to have children. Women and girls who are empowered, especially via education and access to modern contraception, are better able to achieve their goals and choose the course of their own lives.

"Promoting gender equality is a solution that addresses a variety of population issues. The best strategy to increase output and income development in ageing societies that are concerned about labour productivity is to achieve gender parity in the workforce.

The empowerment of women via education and family planning, however, can have significant positive effects on human capital and inclusive economic growth in nations that are undergoing high population expansion.

Dr. Salma Anas, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Special Health Advisor, addressed the effects of the nation's population expansion in her speech at the ceremony.

"As we all know, population growth has significant effects on socioeconomic and environmental development," she continued. The solution to this problem must be seen holistically and sustainably. Investment in health and education is one of the fundamental tenets of sustainable development.

Crime7 Suspended As Runway Light Gets Stolen In Lagos Airport by Darlingtonwrite(op): 7:42am On Jul 11, 2023
7 suspended as Runway light gets stolen in Lagos Airport

The newly replaced airfield lighting systems at the domestic runway 18/36L of Murtala Muhammad Airport are purportedly gone.

The removal of the runway lighting systems, it was learned, has prompted security worries in Nigeria's largest airports.

A source who requested anonymity said those who removed the lighting systems profited from the runway being closed for more than three months.

According to the report, several FAAN employees colluded with outsiders to steal the airport lighting equipment.

"The criminal used the closure as an opportunity to carry out the crime. Although I am unable to estimate the precise value of the theft, practically all of the lighting was taken. The permanent secretary came over to witness the extensive damage for himself. Many FAAN employees have been suspended, the source said.

According to information obtained, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation, ordered the suspension of various FAAN department heads for missing lighting equipment.

The insider also said that inquiries had started in order to identify people in charge of the missing safety equipment.

The insider claims that a syndicate made up of some agency employees with access to the restricted areas and collaborators from the outside often breaches airport security and steals safety components.

A senior FAAN employee who did not want his name published claimed that Mr. Kabir Yusuf, the agency's managing director, was unhappy with the development.

The FAAN MD, according to him, also ordered the suspension of the security staff in charge of manning the most important airport facilities.

Group Capt. John Ojikutu (retired), a former Military Commandant at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, responded to the most recent occurrence by saying, "This is nothing new at MMA. I wish the FAAN management could go back to 1990, when the airport saw similar events. I firmly believed it to be a "insider threat." What have I done? I set up soldiers on the runways and made sure that no FAAN maintenance employees entered the area without first getting my permission; if they did, they would be shot. It abruptly came to an end. Since runway lightings were being stolen, I came to the conclusion that they are only good for runways and not for highways or houses.

"The same employees were selling those that were stolen to FAAN. That is why I oppose the unions' picketing of their employers in parts of the airport that are under security control.

Yakubu Funtua, FAAN's Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, informed news reporters that inquiries had been opened and that the organisation would use all of its resources to prevent a repeat of the incident.

"FAAN is doing everything it can to figure out what's going on," he declared. You are well aware of the several organisations present in the airport, including those tasked with maintaining security. Therefore, it would be wrong to blame this (the theft) on our employees, and I doubt that any FAAN employees want the organisation to go down.

"Remember that Lagos provides the majority of our revenue. What sort of employees will "kill the goose that lays the egg" then? We are making every effort to restore what has been lost, but we are unable to identify the perpetrator with certainty. Because we will identify the perpetrators and close any loopholes, we will be able to retrieve them.

Due to a lack of airfield illumination, the domestic runway 18L at Lagos Airport was closed to night operations for 15 years.

Domestic aircraft were compelled to use runway 19 at the international airport, a longer route that uses more fuel.

The apparatus was built on the 2.7-kilometer runway in November and helps aircraft take off and land at the domestic airport during the night.

Karma strikes as transformer vandal gets electrocuted in Delta State

A man whose identity is yet to be confirmed has died of electrocution while vandalising a transformer in Ogbe Quarters, Ute- Okpu community, in the Ike North-East Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was gathered that residents in the community raised the alarm when they saw the corpse of the man hanging on an electric pole and cables located close to a market in the community.

A resident, simply identified as Mr John, told news reporters that, a yet-to-be-identified boy was on his way to a nearby community when he saw the corpse on the pole and raised the alarm.

John said, “We were alerted by a young boy who was going to the next village that a dead body was hanging on the electric pole. We have been indoors since morning because of the rain that kept us in our beds.

“We didn’t go anywhere due to the rainfall. Even though we came out to our frontage, we did not notice the lifeless body of the young man hanging there. The corpse was holding an electric cable, which means that he was cutting the cable.

“For some time now, we didn’t have a power supply but the BEDC restored power around 3am; only God knows what happened. We alerted the vigilance members in this area and they informed the police before the corpse was brought down.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, on Sunday confirmed the incident.

Over 7 billion people on Earth and you may not meet up to 1 million persons before you die.

That's a lesson.

You should understand that the people you've met in life didn't come to you by chance. They have a purpose; there's a reason why you came across them out of the billions of other people out there.

Now narrowing it down, have you thought about marriage? How you get attached to one person, for life!

Billions of people out there and you choose just one person to spend the rest of your life with.

But what did you do? You chose the wrong person because of nyash😒

Actually, I was joking 😂

But think of it. If there are over 7 billion people on Earth, why should you settle for less? Why use the word "manage?"

Go out there, meet new people and live your life to taste. Don't be hasty to settle down.

Don't conclude too fast. Weigh your options and go for the best, you deserve it.

But don't forget to be grateful for the wonderful people in your life. You are only but one person out of the billions they could be with, but you know what?

They said " f*ck other people" and they chose you. For that, love and cherish them.

Gratitude is a virtue!

Innoson Motors withdraws Joy Mmesoma's Scholarship

Innoson Motors spokesperson, Mr Osigwe said that given that the company had awarded Miss Mmesoma the scholarship in recognition of her supposed stellar performance, the finding that she manipulated her UTME results was “deeply disappointing.”

He stated that the manipulation of results by the candidate “does not align with the values and laid down rules” of the company.

“In line with these principles and in response to the confirmed findings, we have made the difficult decision to withdraw the scholarship awarded to Miss Joy Mmesoma Ejikeme,” he said.

“This action is a testament to our unyielding commitment to honesty, integrity, and merit-based recognition.”

Mr Osigwe said, although the withdrawal of the scholarship was regrettable and could cause “dismay” to those who stood by Miss Mmesoma including her school principal, it was crucial to maintain the integrity of the company’s scholarship programme and its values.

“We believe in rewarding exceptional students who display, not just academic prowess but also embody the values of honesty, transparency, and respect for the processes that govern our educational system,” he said.

Kogi Poly to expel 313 students for low Academic performance

313 students will be dropping out of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja due to low academic performance in the first semester of the academic year 2022–2023.

The withdrawal came after the Academic Board Central Result Verification Committee's report was discussed at a board meeting on the main campus on June 22, 2023.

In a statement released on Friday, Omale Oredo, head of the public relations and protocol section, listed the students who withdrew as coming from 17 departments and 28 programs.

The board, which was presided over by the polytechnic's rector, Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman, revealed that the decision was made as part of a commitment to uphold high academic standards and produce deserving academic ambassadors.

He charged the students to make appropriate use of the available facilities in the school for their academic growth and to shun all forms of social vices.

CrimePolice In Rivers State Arrest Cult Leader, Recover A Human Skull And Arms by Darlingtonwrite(op): 7:15pm On Jul 07, 2023
Police in Rivers State arrest Cult Leader, recover a Human Skull and Arms

During a raid on his hideouts in the Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, the police captured the leader of a notorious criminal group known only as Ojukwu and found a human skull.

Two AK-47 rifles, a pump action rifle, and a human skull were also found during the search.

Dr. Thomas Bari-ere, the chairman of Khana LGA, revealed this while addressing with reporters in Port Harcourt. He said the arrest was the result of a tip that the council authority learned about and quickly forwarded to the police.

According to intelligence, Ojukwu, one of the suspects in police custody, has a location where he keeps both human skull and firearms, Dr. Bari-ere added.

“He uses them to administer oaths to his victims for them to keep his identity secret.

“So we alerted the security operatives, and the Bori Police Division, alongside the anti-cultism unit, had to act swiftly.

“The operation was successful. Two AK-47 rifles, a human skull, and a pump action were recovered.”

While urging the police to ensure a speedy investigation and ensure the gang leader is prosecuted.

He urged the people of Khana LGA to support the police by giving useful information if they know where criminal gangs were hiding for prompt action.

“It is one thing to apprehend a criminal, it is yet another for the instrumentality of the law to be activated such that the criminals are made to face the law,” he said.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the arrest and recoveries.

She stated, “Yes, the suspect is in our (police) custody, and the items and the arms and ammunition investigation is ongoing.”
