1. We are not lazy people. My fellow importers will agree with me that importation is HARD work. The kind of things we have achieved are not common place. We have helped create jobs directly and indirectly. The average importer is most likely awake when you are busy snoring because of research and other things that need to be done.

You think it's easy to source for products, get reliable sellers, pay, import and eventually deliver to the end user and still turn a profit?

2. You sound as though importation is a bad thing, no country is 100% self sustaining so is it a crime that we saw a need a decided to meet that need through our various businesses?

3. I really take exception to the fact that according to you, importation is a cheap way of getting out of poverty. This is an insult to hard working young men and women who was created jobs for themselves.

4. There is no Country that doesn't import and some Countries have better economies of scale than others. So is it our fault that Nigeria doesn't have good economies of scale?

5. If you were not among those who skipped classes in secondary school, I'm sure you would have learnt something called balance of trade in economics.

6. If you don't like importation as you claim please ensure that every product you use is strictly made in Nigeria.

7. Most of us started with zero and insome cases very little capital and have grown very big and you say we are lazy? If a thread was to be opened for importers to share their inspiring testimonies, you will be amazed at the feat they have achieved.

8. Young innovative people like ymodulus and the others in the importers hall of fame have come with ideas that has changed the financial outlook of many young Nigerians, what have you contributed? Zero!!!

bros, this is the reason why indians and chinese business succeed in Nigeria and many african countries ,these 2 set of people are very good at marketing their products . For each business product or idea ,there must be a marketing plan as well as a target market. I know in nigeria most telecoms companies have packages for different target markets. So the guy that is finding it difficult to sell his powerbanks need to sit down and identify his target market, and focus on how to sell his product to them. The secret about marketing is no matter how dumb or useless an item or product is ,there is someone who will buy it at your price . You only need to identify that person .I once told my friend (mayorall) here that the importation business in nigeria needs marketing consultancy companies. This is a very good area of business for anyone who can do it .

hmmmm , ok let me give u an hint. U see marketing is a different aspect of business entirely, buying or purchasing can be done by anybody but not everyone has the skills of convincing ppl to buy. There are some ppl who have this skill and even if you package ur shit in a nylon bag ,they will find a buyer for u. Now in ur own case . It will be an herculean task convincing people to buy something for 6000 when someone else is advertising the same or similar item for 2500 or 3k. This means ur prooduct isn't for everybody . What u will do is to draw up a list of 10 people you are sure are able to buy the item. Make a list. Meet these people and do everything to convince them to buy BUT DON'T REDUCE the price too much . Now ask them to recomend or refer you to some oof their friend or at least 1 person . If out of 10 ppl you are refered to buys from u ,repeat the same process and make sure u keep contacting all these buyers with regualr updates .this is a simple trick used in marketing

indeed boss, you have said it all though am a marketer it's good to learn from those who are in the business before you and learn their ways.

It's really crazy walahi! We all faced it at the beginning and are still facing it. From the moment you chose your business onwards. The moment you experience one little glitch in the course of running your business, they increase the volume of discouraging voices. When you lose 2 or 3 chicks (which is a constant in poultry business) some of those people would make it seem like it's because you are failing blah blah and looking at you with ”We told you" faces. Prepare yourself for that. The hardest part of business in the early days and a lot of other times is staying in business. Anytime you hear anyone say anything in the context of leaving your business, reply in your heart, ”Leave it for what?” Don't say it out loud, you don't want to hear the gibberish they'll spew back as answers.
