Chapter 5 Kane turned on the coffee maker and hopped on the counter. With a sigh, he threw his head back and hit it against the overhead cupboard. “God damn it.” He said as he rubbed the sore spot at the back of his head. “I am the luckiest guy today.” With a grunt, he hopped off and walked over the living room. He flipped over the red couch and shut his eyes. It has been 20 minutes since he left the message. On a normal occasion, the mystery man would reply within a mere 5 minutes – no more, no less. But as the clock ticked, it’s become clear to him that this is not one of those occasions. When Kane pressed enter, he knew exactly what he was getting himself into, but apparently, the hacker didn’t want to join him in it. Disgruntled, he propped himself up on the couch and looked straight at the small flat-screen television in front of him. He picked up the remote from the cluttered coffee table and turned the TV on. After a few minutes of mindless channel surfing, he stumbled upon a weird show. It aired on a painfully low-budget channel with a crappy camera. It featured a red-faced televangelist yelling on a microphone, giving a sermon to a brainwashed audience. He gripped the mic tightly with his hands and sat on the first row of people. Kane turned up the volume and tuned in. “…he is the ultimate judge. God IS the ultimate judge. Why should we listen to these men in their fancy blue outfits if the only one we want to please –.” The man raised his free arm in the air and pointed to roof. “- is Him?” Kane, like the audience, stared at the television with a blank, careless stare, only mildly interested in what the preacher man had to say. Kane is a Christian – at least, he likes to believe that he is. The last time he went to a church was about half a year ago, and even then he didn’t want to. He never really liked the church. Sermons would last for an hour and the pastor would just repeat the same thing over and over again. Don’t do this, don’t do that. You’re supposed to be this; you’re supposed to be that. And somehow, everything they say becomes justified as long as you add “in the name of God” at the end. When he was a boy, his mom would always drag him out of bed every Sunday morning for an early mass in the town’s little chapel. It stood near an arcade so Kane never really complained much about, until one day, dragging him to church simply wasn’t enough for his mother and she decided to sign him up as a chapel boy. True Nigerian mothers don’t joke with church going. “You be good, you hear me?” She said as she held his face with two, soft hands. “Yeah, momma,” Kane said, pulling away from his mother’s grasp. “I’m not a kid anymore.” The ten-year-old bowed his head and looked at the pavement. He was wearing his fancy new church shoes that gleamed like a diamond. He wore a pressed blue shirt that was tucked in a pair of khakis that fit too loose around the hips. This was Rita Bamidele’s idea of presentable. “Now, Father Thomas will take care of you here, okay?” She whispered. “You hear me?” “Yeah, I hear you.” He said as he kicked around a few rocks. “Head along now. You’ll be late.” She said, grabbing him by the shoulders and twisting him around. “I love you.” She said as she gave him a little push. As Kane neared the church doors, he peeked behind him and saw his mother smiling at him from afar. Looking back at the preacher in the TV, Kane remembered the small chapel back at home. He remembered how it always smelled of incense and roses. He remembered all the other kids running around and the sexton chasing after them. Kane would always just sit down quietly in the nave while the other kids would play. Even as a kid, he was always the odd one out. Somehow, he always found a way to do the unspeakable, something chapel kids tend to stay away from. Parents would always point at him and told their kids to stay away. The other members of the church would often whisper to each other as if that would hurt him less. Fearless as he was, Kane Bamidele was as empathetic and emotional as the next human being, yet sadly, the world didn’t acknowledge this. |
Academicwizman:What's the estimated monthly revenue? What's your asking price? |
Watkinss:The bolded is really funny. Ask Glo or MTN why people pay for their data. Dem for give you data for free bah? People pay for membership because: - We need money to maintain the website - We need money so we can pay those working behind the scene. Abi people wey dey maintain website nor go chop food? - And finally, I as the owner need to earn some revenue. Its a business and not charity work. As for your last question, my expectation is a minimum of 200 new members annually and earning a projected revenue of over N1million. In return, the members gain access to premium information (for a whole year) on how they can earn thousands of dollars working from home. Everybody wins! |
Introducing Liner. Liner is a subscription-based platform that offers information on latest contracts from across Nigeria (all industries), remote work offers from companies abroad, and travel abroad opportunities (for work). Liner uses an organic verification system to validate the legitimacy of these offers and also ensure they are suitable for Nigerians (for those offers from abroad). It is an offshoot and an expanded version of the previous OfficeManager platform which emanated from https://www.nairaland.com/2063427/nairaland-contractors-lounge Why charge membership fees: Liner's information verification process costs money. We pay contacts from Offices in Abuja and other locations, including part-time help from other countries who help in validating the offers from companies abroad. This is in a bid to identify and discard bogus information ensure everything published in Liner is legit. This thread is to post theses offers and opportunities so interested folks can apply. Questions are welcome. TO SEE THESE OFFERS AND OPPORTUNITIES AND APPLY FOR THEM, CLICK HERE. |
I want to thank all those who have followed this thread. It's been an exciting experience. The objective is to set up an online business and lay down the process for everyone to see. You know, my definition of an online business is not affiliate marketing, or one of those joker's (pardon me, it's my opinion). To build a profitable online business, you need to get a good idea that's validated, structure your implementation plan, get a good marketing strategy (free or paid) and get to work. My stats: My target was to set up a simple online business with a budget of N50k, a membership website with paid subscription as revenue model, and hope to acquire 200 paid users by the end of December - 6 months. I started this process less than 2 weeks ago and I have achieved the following; - website completed and available to the public - I used a pre-launch marketing strategy which required a waiting list and an online buzz. - The buzz I did on social media was more effective on LinkedIn as 2 or 3 posts went viral raking in a combined 25,000+ views and hundreds of comments. One of the posts is attached. - Over 1,000 people joined the waiting list. - The site was opened by 9am this morning - less than 4 hours after launching, I got over 40 new registrations with almost half of them becoming paid subscribers. - I receive over 10 new registrations every hour. And it's still counting. So, in all. It's been a smooth ride. Ciao.

favourume:I used WordPress ![]() |
Update: My posts on LinkedIn are continuing to maintain it's viral trajectory. Interesting. Over 10,000 views and counting. Also, I've gotten over 1,000 people join the waiting list. It seems I might hit my target 200 users in less than half my projected timeframe (6 months). This thread might end soonest after I drop my marketing strategy. |
Good morning people. |
Ok, as per the social media buzz, I've recorded 2 posts on LinkedIn going viral with a combined 6,000+ views in 2 days. We all know getting 500 views on your post on LinkedIn is extremely difficult. Except you are an influencer. Waiting list is now 600+. My Buffer social media manager app is doing a GREAT work. All social media accounts are getting daily updates automatically. So far so good, N10,000 gone from my budget of N50k. ![]() Attached is a screenshot of comments on one of the LinkedIn buzz posts.

update: THE WEBSITE WILL BE LAUNCHED ON TUESDAY NEXT WEEK.....LESS THAN 48 HOURS TO GO!! Click here to join the waiting list |
Setting up social media accounts isn't easy. Been working on it for the past 2 days. I have decided to use Buffer as my social media management tool. It is a great tool. In fact, I have scheduled posts for the whole of next week. The social media accounts get daily updates while I face other tasks. But I am leaning towards adding social media marketers to my team. Each to manage a particular account. They get their monthly targets which they must meet. The next phase of my online business set up is marketing. The online buzz is working! People are seriously making inquiries, waiting for the launch date, and some already have their subscription fee ready Lol. Today, I am going to let the cat out of the bag. I'll let you know what the online platform is FULLY all about, and the website link. PROBLEM STATEMENT (simple terms) Via my first platform, PROCV Nigeria, I have interacted with hundreds of professionals who are highly qualified and most of them still find it difficult to get good paying jobs. I have also interected with lots of contractors (if you remember my contractors thread a few years back), and I also noticed they have issues laying their hands on contracts. Finally, its the dream of over 70% of Nigerians to travel abroad - not just to travel, but to get a good job. SOLUTIONS The new platform I have built to address these issues is called Liner. Liner operates as a restricted platform with multiple information pipelines. As a member, you get access the following information; 1. Verified and validated remote work opportunities. Not the normal freelance gigs you know, but legit full-time/part-time employment offers. You get employed remotely by top companies globally and you get paid a monthly, weekly, or bi-weekly salary. Most of these companies pays upwards of $10,000 annually (over N3million) 2. Confirmed contract opportunities from all industries across every region in Nigeria. You can submit your bids and quotations directly. If you are persistent, you'll land yourself a multimillion naira contract. 3. You gain direct access to travel-and-work abroad offers mostly from countries in Asia and Europe. They might demand a few certifications which you can acquire online. Most of the travel are all expense paid. METHODS I currently have two teams. The diggers and validators. They are not paid monthly salaries but they are paid a figure per amount of work done. Diggers get these opportunities ( I am also a digger), while validators reside in some of these countries and they help with validating the legitimacy of these opportunities. REVENUE MODEL: The online business will generate revenue via a recurring membership subscription sold annually of N5,500. This will help in footing the platform bills - website management, marketing, diggers & validators, etc. A few individuals have already purchased their membership subscriptions in our ongoing beta users testing, they have given the "hi 5" already. Hopefully, by tomorrow, I'll shed more light on my marketing strategy and also reveal the date of the website launch. NB: This is not a full-fledged startup company. It's just a simple online business I am setting up to offer solutions to a set of problems, while I make money form membership subscriptions. Normally, I would have just set up the whole thing in two weeks or there about and start advertising everywhere. But I am taking the pains to drop my strategy and set up process here so as to teach a few persons how to set up an online business. Attached are; - Screenshot of testimonials from the Liner website - Screenshot of my awaiting list using MailChimp. It has gotten 600+ individuals interested already! - Others.

Good morning folks. Update coming up shortly. |
SocialJustice:I've dropped the link so you guys can join the waiting list. Now to answer your question. The jobs in question are NOT your regular "freelance" work where you bid for tasks or get tasks done and get paid some measly $20. I am talking about full time OR part-time positions with real companies and you work remotely. You get paid a salary monthly or weekly, or as the case may be. SEE EXAMPLE: ===================================================================== Participatory Culture Foundation (PCF) is seeking a full time product manager for our flagship software product. Our ideal candidate is analytical with a strong background in data-driven decision making and has a desire to make the world a better place! The above is the kind of jobs you'll see in our pipelines. And the remote working thing is just ONE of the pipelines. I'm not supposed to do this, but I think it's better to let you understand what my website is set to offer. The job offer posted above is currently available. I cannot post the "apply" link here. I nor wan chop ban ![]() Anymore questions? |
OK, the waiting list subscription tool was up yesterday and it's amazing how a good product attracts prospective users. So far so good, I am impressed with what I have done so far because it is beginning to gain traction even without it available to the public yet. Now, for NLers who are interested in joining the waiting list, here is the link; CLICK HERE TO JOIN THE WAITING LIST NB: My generator is working again. Discovered the battery died and I didn't put on the ignition while trying to start it manually. ![]() Anyways, more update coming up shortly. |
comeandsee:Thanks boss. I am practically teaching how to begin a startup using a live example. |
And the social media buzz have started. A post I made on LinkedIn attracted 2,000+ views in less than 24 hours with tons of comments. See attached. For the social media buzz/awareness creation my list of tasks includes: - Setting up a business page on both LinkedIn and Facebook - Setting up Twitter and Instagram accounts Then to make it easier, I'll make use of those social media management tools like hootsuite, buffer or socialbee. I need to post on all social media accounts simultaneously and even schedule my next 20 posts. So far, I have spent N7000 from my budget. But currently, my gen is faulty. The key start refuse to answer and I tried manually, same thing. I have sent for my mechanic. So bad. PHCN keeps frustrating entrepreneurs. ![]()

etcme:Thanks @etcme. The technicalities involved in website creation isn't the secret ingredient. You can always hire a developer. The secret ingredient is knowing how to get customers. In one word - marketing! No matter how technical you are, if you don't do good marketing, your website will be seen as another failed project. Update: The website is 100% ready! |
Update: I have successfully set up the dashboard. It is not overly complicated. Just something very simple. I have also included the terms and conditions of the the website. My level of experience has taught me to always provide options for legal. One cannot be too careful. So, the website is practically ready. All I need to do now is flood it with high value contents. If you are to sell membership subscriptions, you need to provide high value contents. It's key to the business's survival. I have shown some of the contents to a few persons and they were perplexed. They accused me of practically "dashing" out these information even though I'll be charging N5,500. But wetin I go do na? ![]() From the start of next year, random registrations will be closed. You can only register by referral. And the fee will go from 5,500 to N28,000. Early users will surely enjoy the platform first ![]() NB: A lot of people have emailed me privately asking to be included in the waiting list. This is to let you know that when the time comes, I'll drop a link here so you join the waiting list. For those trying to start an online business, you can see it's not rocket science. - Get your idea - Do your market validation (how viable is your idea?) - Draw up a plan. How do you want to structure the website? How do you want to make money from it? Etc. - Build the website - Create a buzz/waiting list. You need to create some form of awareness and get people interested even before releasing the website to the public. - etc..... I'll update this list later. ![]() Like I said, if you know your onions, setting up an online business isn't that complicated. Making N500k in your online business is not imaginary. It's a simple possibility. Forgive the typos, I'm using a phone. More updates coming up shortly. |
etcme:Oh, I thought no one was. I was about shutting down the thread. More updates coming soon. |
My new online business is beginning to take shape. The website is 70% complete. I need to try and finish up by the end of next week. This is so I can have one full month handling the next phase before launching. Waiting List. Hopefully, my next phase after the website completion (and loading it with content) is to start working on my waiting list. The best way to start getting IMMEDIATE customers or users for your website is to carry out what I call a waiting list set up. This means creating a buzz around the service for 2 - 3 weeks on social media. I'll also set up an email subscription box on the website landing page - in other words, I'll start dropping daily appetizing posts on social media and drop a link with each post leading to the website's landing page. On getting there, you'll drop your name and email to be "notified and be the first to know when we launch" ![]() The social media buzz will be supported and pushed by ads. And the target is to get up to 300 email subscribers before the final launch. A few days to the website launch, I'll start sending emails to the subscribers and even letting them know how much it will cost to sign up. Maybe I'll give a discount to the first set of users on day one of launch. This strategy is to get a minimum of 50 paid members on the first week of launching the website. If I can achieve this, then the remaining 150 targeted members will be easy to acquire in the next coming months. For now, I am still battling with the set up of the website's dashboard. Stay tuned. |
Good morning folks. |
maxiart2:Thanks for following this diary. As per your request. I have stopped setting up sites for people. I really don't have the time. Perhaps you can check the webmaster section and find a capable hand. |
So, I have completed the registration, payment, and login pages. The payment will be processed by Paystack. And the system has been programmed to lock you out after one year if you have not renewed your membership. My next task is to work on the dashboard. When you login, you are supposed to be taken to a dashboard. The only challenge I have right now is the reCaptcha I installed in the registration and login forms. It isn't just working and I know I did it right. Super annoying. ![]() The dashboard might take me a few days to set up. Update coming soon again.

bravesoul247:Thanks for your feedback. Let me give you a scenario... In 2016, I got a job with a company in the US. It's all about writing/editing of academic stuff. Company is based in the US while I work from home here in Nigeria. My first year with them, I got over N3million. I was paid between $500 - $1,000 monthly. Since then, I have gotten way more offers like that which I actually gave up using cos I don't have the time. There is a limit to the number of jobs we can handle daily or we wear out. I definitely know how to scratch out offers like this from the most hidden places (I also have contacts from some of these countries that helps with verifying the legitimacy of these opportunities) and I intend compiling these offers in an information pipeline then sell subscriptions to those who which to access these offers. In a nutshell, as a member, you'll gain access to weekly published data that can actually help you earn over N2m annually or more. So, now that I have given you a glimpse of what you gain as a registered member, will you sign up? ![]() |

I have sent for my mechanic.
