Phones / 10 Android Applications Draining Your Battery And Data by Datevilme: 3:00pm On Aug 31, 2017
Have you ever had a fully charged battery run down so fast that you begin to wonder…or have you ever subscribed for a months worth of data, only to get the dreaded “You have 79.78MB remaining of your data plan” a few days later. Well there might be applications on your phone that may be culprits. We’ve compiled a list of 10 Android applications draining your battery and data, in no particular order

Google Maps:Google maps is one of those applications that run automatically on the background when your phone is turned on. If your GPS is turned on, it steadily tries to update locations according to your movement. This has a huge effect on your battery and data.

Snapchat: Although it doesn’t startup automatically like google maps, but when it is turned on, your data and battery will testify. For those who don’t know, Snapchat is an app that allows users to send and receive self destructing videos and photos.

Samsung AllShare: Non Samsung android users, you are safe. AllShare is a service that lets Samsung devices, Samsung TVs and your PC access and share photos, videos and even music between themselves, streamed over any internet connection. It runs on the background and heavily consumes data and battery.

Facebook: Am sure you don’t need to be told. this heavy app is notorious for battery and data consumption. It runs automatically when your phone is turned on…how do you think you get all those notifications?

Instagram: Personally, this right here is responsible for over 60% of my data usage. Like Facebook, it runs on the background also, part of the reason for its heavy data and battery usage.

DU Battery Saver: Ironic right? This app tries to shut down background processes that may be draining your battery…this means this app has to run on the background and be up at all times too. So yea, irregardless of its name, its a battery drainer too.

Spotify Music: Spotify is a music streaming service. It does not typically startup on its own, it is user-started. When running however, your battery and data will bear the brunt.

WhatsApp Messenger: One of the most used applications, naturally it causes a strain on your data and battery. All those group messages, images, videos, calls, etc, consumes battery and data a lot. It runs on the background also.

AppLock: This application will keep prying eyes out of your Android applications. It is more of a battery draining app. It starts automatically when your phone is turned on, this makes it consume a significant part of your battery life.

Google Chrome: Google chrome is a powerful browser. It also starts automatically when your phone is turned on. Compared to some data saving browsers, chrome is high on data consumption.

Our smartphones are very active parts of our daily lives. Knowing how the applications running on them use data and battery life will really help how we manage our phones. Considering the high cost of data and electricity in our beloved country.

Nigerians need to sit up and stop letting this people take us for a ride. We have a constitution, and if it is to be followed, this man should have resigned long ago...

The worst set of people in all this are all those still showing support, clueless bunch...i hope his coming will put food on your tables tonight.

Do you know you can easily find out if you have been hacked or if your password is actually safe. Its amazing really that a large number of people still use weak passwords in the likes if "12345678" and co to protect their online accounts. This is equivalent to walking under the rain with a closed umbrella...you will get wet!

This study shows the top 25 common passwords of 2016. If your password is here or if your password looks like any of the ones on that list, chances are you've already been hacked. You really should change your password.

Fortunately, there are tools you can use to check your password strength and determine how long it will take to crack. Just in case you think you are invisible, you can also check if you have already been hacked.

Computers / Kaspersky Now Offers Free Antivirus Protection by Datevilme: 12:56pm On Aug 03, 2017
Finally, kaspersky has joined the league of free antivirus providers. I’m pretty sure we are all familiar with kaspersky, they’ve been around for awhile, but until recently their antivirus only came in paid versions. Now we have a kaspersky free antivirus

However, you certainly won’t get the same value you would get in a paid version. The free version is like a pared down version of the paid version. It comes with protection for files, emails and web. In addition to that, you get automatic updates, and a quarantine for flagged files. And yes, you can also use it to scan your portable drives and USB.

So, why is kaspersky releasing a free version now? Well, in the company’s blog post, they wrote

“There are a lot of users who don’t have the ~$50 to spend on premium protection; therefore, they install traditional freebies (which have more holes than Swiss cheese for malware to slip through) or they even rely on Windows Defender (ye gods!).”

Traditional freebies…well, no pun intended, but i guess they just joined the league of traditional freebies too.

Kaspersky will also be looking to use the data gathered from the free version to better improve on their overall antivirus protection…same way all antivirus companies do. In their own words

“An increase in the number of installations of Kaspersky Free will positively affect the quality of protection of all users, since the big-data-bases will have more numbers to work with to better hone the machine learning.”

The free version will be lighter than the premium version, will definitely run quicker and use up less system resources. The company also promises an ad free experience

Phones / How To Send GIF On Whatsapp by Datevilme: 12:08pm On Jul 27, 2017

Although this feature has been on WhatsApp since early this year, not too many people know about it. So let my be the one to tell you that you can actually send GIFs (Moving Images) on WhatsApp the same way you would send a normal smiley. The feature is a bit hidden though, probably why it’s not as common.
So heres’s how to send GIF on WhatsApp:

How to send GIFs on Android WhatsApp

First off, select the smiley face, the same way you would if you want to send a smiley
Next, select the GIF icon just below the smileys, you will be shown a list of GIFs

Select the one you that suits that feeling you are trying to pass across that the smiley just doesn’t cut. You can also search using keywords of what you want.
Hit on send, like you would normally do…and that’s it.

Call of Duty
I hear my friends telling me Call of Duty the best game ever go and get it. As recession is i didnt want to waste my money so I first look at IGN reviews and it got a 9.4 out of 10 . I wasn't sure if I wanted to get the game so I borrowed it from my cousins. I beat up the campaign on veteran on the 1st try. I analyzed the game's multiplayer, zombies and campaign. Multiplayer gets a 3/10. Boring and repetitive. Campaign 1/10 Bad storyline and 6 hours is not worth a #7800 game. Seriously! The guns seem all the same, like smgs, assault , and light machine. There is no difference. Despite the fact that Nazis are one of the most viscerally satisfying, guilt-free enemies to be pitted against it gets tiresome mowing down fascists with a Thompson. The war went on for years, but in many places that was generally long periods of watching and waiting followed by action, which was often taking place in unremarkable forests or fields. The games were good for a time, but with no new material to draw from, anything that has to pump out moore content will become stagnant. Even the tightest controls can’t make up for repetitive level design.

How dare you, this is treason, you should be sentenced for thrashing the almighty Call of Duty like this angry

If like me, you have heard about 4k televisions and ultra HD resolutions, then you must be wondering what it is really about. Well, you are about to find out.

What is 4K?

Used correctly, 4K actually refers to 4,096 x 2,160 resolution, while Ultra HD (UHD) refers to a 3,840 x 2,160 pixels resolution. So 4K is actually the wrong name used to describe a 3,840 x 2,160 pixels resolution. However most people use both names (4K and UHD) interchangeably, so the distinction isn’t really there anymore. Also, what you would normally refer to as a full HD tv has 1,920 x 1,080, so obviously the 4K/UHD is much higher.

Why Should I Buy a 4K Tv?

Well, as you can imagine, the added resolution gives you clearer pictures with higher definition, resulting in real like images, it will be as if you are looking through a window. The effect is more noticeable on larger screens, say 50 inches and above. I bet if you upgraded from your HD 50 inches Tv to a 4K, you will appreciate the difference.

What is 4K Content?

4K content are pictures captured with devices capable of 4K capturing. So, for a video to be 4K content, it has to actually be captured with a 4K resolution. Along with standard professional cameras, modern high-end smartphones from Apple, Samsung, HTC, etc also support 4K video recording.

Did i forget to mention that Sony’s Playstation 4 Pro and Microsoft’s Xbox One X offer some of their games in native 4K resolution. Talk about an unparalleled gaming experience. Although your 4k Tv will upscale HD and other standard definition pictures to match its 4K count, it doesn’t mean those contents are 4K content.

Where Can I Watch 4K Content?

Presently, the dominant source of 4K content is the internet. Sites such as Netflix and YouTube enable you stream 4K content. You can even download 4K Videos/Movies online, put it in a USB drive and play it on your 4K Tv. 4K content is catching up quickly, so expect the likes of DSTV and others to start showing channels in 4K. Imagine watching the next champions league final in Ultra High Definition, must be nice!

How Much Can I Get One?

Well, before running out to get one, make sure you are buying a recent 4K Tv. Reason being the constant changes of this new standard has rendered older 4k Tv sets kinda obsolete, as they do not support many new features. So its better you go for something made in 2016 and later.
I’m not going to be too specific on pricing. However, depending on your specifications, you can get one for as low as 200k (₦200,000). Prices go way up to the millions for higher end products.

Mega is also cool, however i will recommend drive anyday

- Google is well known, there is a far slimer chance of a shutdown compared to mega
- Google's integration is just effortless, you can collaborate, share and there is even a built in office suite
- There is extended functionality via other google apps

Let me stop here, but you have to agree that drive is more useful, flexible and secure than mega.
Webmasters / Reasons Why You Should Be Using The Cloud by Datevilme: 3:34pm On Jun 08, 2017
As old as this may seem, its amazing the number of companies and people who still haven't embraced the cloud, even with all the free cloud services available. I remember misplacing my phone a few months ago, normally I would go crazy considering the pictures, contacts and other sensitive information I lost, but thanks to cloud integration, recovering them was pretty easy.

Cloud...What is it?

Simply put, the cloud is an online storage. Think of it as a hard drive that is accessible 24/7 from anywhere that has an internet connection. The same way you can get access to your email address from any computer/mobile device with internet access, that's the same way you can get access to your documents, photos, contacts, etc on the cloud

3 reasons why you should use the cloud

Security: Cloud platforms are very safe. On the cloud, your data is being saved in very secure and high performing servers in huge data centers. It is very unlikely that anything will happen to your data, in fact, you data is safer on the cloud than on your hard disk or memory card. You are less likely to get hacked when your data is on the cloud.

Sharing/Collaboration: Imagine you are out-of-town, your computer containing some documents are saved there, suddenly the need arises that you have to share those documents with someone. This is where the convenience of the cloud comes in, wherever you are, you can get access to your files at any time.

Easy Recovery: Have you ever had you laptop or smart phone stolen? or perhaps its a technical fault say bad hard disk or memory card. The point is you will lose data which may include pictures, documents, contacts, etc. Setting up these resources to back up on the cloud is the best thing you can do. It saves you the headache of having to worry about getting those data back, especially contacts and pictures.

How to Get Started on Cloud?

Simple, there are several cloud storage providers that even give you storage for free. However I will be recommending Google Drive. Personally i use it, its cool, easy to use and organize. They give you an initial 15 GB free, generous if you ask me. All you have to do is Open a Gmail account. Incase you didn't know, your Gmail account is not just another email for sending mails only. It comes with a variety of very useful google applications, and drive is one of them.

For Smart Phone Users: After setting up your Gmail account on your smart phone, you can set your contacts to automatically sync with your Gmail account. This way you will hardly lose contacts. You can also do the same with your photos. Also, download the google drive app to your device and upload your useful files there. As long as you can log into that your Gmail account, you will be able to get access to these files/contacts/photos.

On Your PC: Simple login to your email from your browser, from there you can get access to your drive. Alternatively, you can download the Google Drive App for your PC. From there you can upload the files you want to back up.

Baised.
Windows cannot run the mac program, but the Mac book runs both windows and mac program.

Why smoke, when you can smoke and drive.

Use both system to get a personal touch before you write on your sales and marketing strategy

Is that your only point...you would have to make more points before concluding that i am biased...

Why smoke, when you can smoke and drive.

Still trying to find the sense in this, and how it relates to anything...

Technology Market / Macbook Pro Vs New Surface Pro 2017 by Datevilme: 2:30pm On May 29, 2017
Although the new surface pro was announced not long ago (May 23) i couldn’t help but compare. It is available for pre-order anyways.

Now, we all know the Mac-book Pro offers awesome performance coupled with an attractive minimalist design. However, Microsoft came up with surface pro series, obviously to suite users who want to have a Mac-book pro like laptop with a windows operating system. Personally if i were to choose one, i would have a hard time, so i did a comparison between both…

Design

The Surface Pro features a cool hybrid design, meaning it can be used like a tablet and like a regular laptop. It comes
with a 12.3-inches screen size. With an elegant design, it has a body thickness of just 8.5mm, weighing only 768
grams…incredible right? Kudos to Microsoft to making a laptop weighing under 1 kg.

The Mac-book pro, unlike the surface pro comes in 13-inch and 15-inch screen variants. On the newer Mac-book Pro models, there’s an option to add a Touch Bar: a OLED strip that replaces the row of function keys on a standard Mac Book Pro. The strip shows different function keys depending on the app you’re in. So, say you’re using Photoshop, you’ll get relevant shortcut keys…cool right? The Mac-book pro weight 1.37 kg and has a thickness of 14.9 mm.

So, if you are going for a sleek lightweight hybrid device, the surface pro wins it, if however you want a more
traditionally designed laptop with a tested and trusted design, then go for the Mac-book pro.

Specifications

While we can say that both devices have a high-resolution display, In numbers Microsoft’s surface pro is higher. It
features a resolution of 2736 x 1824 pixels with a 276 ppi pixel density compared to Mac-book pro’s 2560 x 1600 pixels and density of 227 ppi.

For processors, they both use Intel’s 7th generation Kaby Lake CPUs. So we can say they are relatively equal on this
regard.

For storage, both devices come with 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB options. However the Surface pro also ships a 128 GB variant, perhaps for the cloud enthusiasts who do not need too much space.

For memory, both devices feature 8 GB and 16 GB RAM options. Once again Microsoft’s edge however includes a 4 GB option.

Apparently, we can say the Surface pro surpasses the Mac-book pro in hardware specs…in doubt, read on…
The surface pro has a primary and secondary camera 8 mega-pixel and 5 mega-pixel respectively, which are capable of capturing full HD (1080p) videos. The Mac-book pros however, feature a single camera, capturing only up to 720p videos.

The Mac-book pro does not have an SD card slot, which the Surface pro has, along with a mini display port.
Battery life…surprisingly, the Microsoft surface pro kicks butt here, boasting a 13.5-hour battery life, compared to
Apple’s Macbook pro 10-hours.

Pricing

Well, i think it all comes down to what you want or rather what you are willing to pay for. Both devices come in many
different configurations, causing a variation in pricing. The most expensive Mac-book pro will cost you about £2,699, while a high-end model Surface pro will cost you about the same price with the Mac-book. In comparison, the cheapest Mac-book will cost you about £1,449, while the Surface Pro will cost about £799.

In Summary:

Both laptops are great to use in all aspects, but if you had to pick one, it will ultimately depend on your preferences.
From the comparisons we made, we can say that:

Design: While both devices are very attractive, what is most obvious is that the Mac-book pro is a Laptop, while the Surface pro is a tablet/laptop hybrid.
Specification: Both devices offer almost similar configurations, however the surface pro beats the Mac-book pro in Battery Life, Better camera quality, and more flexible port options.
Pricing: Going by the cheapest variations of both devices, we have to say the Surface pro is more pocket friendly.
However, the high-end configurations of both laptops are pretty much at par with each other.

So, what do you think about both laptops, which one would you choose?
