Computers / Macbook Pro Vs New Surface Pro 2017 by Datevilme: 2:08pm On May 29, 2017
Although the new surface pro was announced not long ago (May 23) i couldn’t help but compare. It is available for pre-order anyways.

Now, we all know the Mac-book Pro offers awesome performance coupled with an attractive minimalist design. However, Microsoft came up with surface pro series, obviously to suite users who want to have a Mac-book pro like laptop with a windows operating system. Personally if i were to choose one, i would have a hard time, so i did a comparison between both…

Design

The Surface Pro features a cool hybrid design, meaning it can be used like a tablet and like a regular laptop. It comes
with a 12.3-inches screen size. With an elegant design, it has a body thickness of just 8.5mm, weighing only 768
grams…incredible right? Kudos to Microsoft to making a laptop weighing under 1 kg.

The Mac-book pro, unlike the surface pro comes in 13-inch and 15-inch screen variants. On the newer Mac-book Pro models, there’s an option to add a Touch Bar: a OLED strip that replaces the row of function keys on a standard Mac Book Pro. The strip shows different function keys depending on the app you’re in. So, say you’re using Photoshop, you’ll get relevant shortcut keys…cool right? The Mac-book pro weight 1.37 kg and has a thickness of 14.9 mm.

So, if you are going for a sleek lightweight hybrid device, the surface pro wins it, if however you want a more
traditionally designed laptop with a tested and trusted design, then go for the Mac-book pro.

Specifications

While we can say that both devices have a high-resolution display, In numbers Microsoft’s surface pro is higher. It
features a resolution of 2736 x 1824 pixels with a 276 ppi pixel density compared to Mac-book pro’s 2560 x 1600 pixels and density of 227 ppi.

For processors, they both use Intel’s 7th generation Kaby Lake CPUs. So we can say they are relatively equal on this
regard.

For storage, both devices come with 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB options. However the Surface pro also ships a 128 GB variant, perhaps for the cloud enthusiasts who do not need too much space.

For memory, both devices feature 8 GB and 16 GB RAM options. Once again Microsoft’s edge however includes a 4 GB option.

Apparently, we can say the Surface pro surpasses the Mac-book pro in hardware specs…in doubt, read on…
The surface pro has a primary and secondary camera 8 mega-pixel and 5 mega-pixel respectively, which are capable of capturing full HD (1080p) videos. The Mac-book pros however, feature a single camera, capturing only up to 720p videos.

The Mac-book pro does not have an SD card slot, which the Surface pro has, along with a mini display port.
Battery life…surprisingly, the Microsoft surface pro kicks butt here, boasting a 13.5-hour battery life, compared to
Apple’s Macbook pro 10-hours.

Pricing

Well, i think it all comes down to what you want or rather what you are willing to pay for. Both devices come in many
different configurations, causing a variation in pricing. The most expensive Mac-book pro will cost you about £2,699, while a high-end model Surface pro will cost you about the same price with the Mac-book. In comparison, the cheapest Mac-book will cost you about £1,449, while the Surface Pro will cost about £799.

In Summary:

Both laptops are great to use in all aspects, but if you had to pick one, it will ultimately depend on your preferences.
From the comparisons we made, we can say that:

Design: While both devices are very attractive, what is most obvious is that the Mac-book pro is a Laptop, while the Surface pro is a tablet/laptop hybrid.
Specification: Both devices offer almost similar configurations, however the surface pro beats the Mac-book pro in Battery Life, Better camera quality, and more flexible port options.
Pricing: Going by the cheapest variations of both devices, we have to say the Surface pro is more pocket friendly.
However, the high-end configurations of both laptops are pretty much at par with each other.

So, what do you think about both laptops, which one would you choose?

Computers / What You Should Know About The Chromebook by Datevilme: 10:53am On May 23, 2017
So, i was having a conversation with a group recently, and i made mention of a Chromebook laptop. From the look on their faces, i could tell that i had lost some of them, it was almost as if i stopped speaking English for a moment. Perhaps its just the word "Chromebook" that is yet to register in the mind, this is one of the reasons i decided to put up this post, basically, this is what you should know about the Chromebook

What is a Chromebook?

We can think of a Chromebook as an internet dependent laptop. Yes, it was designed to work optimally with an internet connection (which should actually be basic by now). It is really a different breed , compared to what we are already used to (Windows/Mac based laptops).

What OS does it run on?

It runs on Googles web based chrome operating system (OS). Because it is designed to work with an internet connection, most of the Chromebook's documents and applications are stored in the cloud. Google in its usual kind nature provides 100GB of cloud storage for every Chromebook.

Why Chromebook?

I believe almost everyone enjoys the convenience of accessing your documents from any computer or even your mobile device anywhere with an internet connection. Even if anything happens to your system, you can be sure your data is safe.

Chromebooks are very easy to use. When you turn on the Chromebook, there is no setup needed, you just simply need to log into your google account, and that's basically what you need to get started. It also has a built in anti-virus protection that updates along with the Chromebook, so you will always be protected. It also promises long battery life.

What if I'm Offline?

The Chromebook has got you covered, all of googles applications have the option for you to work in an offline mode, then changes are synced and saved when you come online.

What About My Videos And Music?

You can store and play your music on the 100GB cloud storage, or on the Chromebook's internal storage, just make sure you've installed the Google Play Movies & TV and Google Play Music extensions from the Chrome Web Store, you can also switch this applications to offline mode to keep enjoying your music and video experience even while offline.

Basic Specifications

Chromebooks don't really standout for their specs, which is actually the way Google intended. Typically most Chromebook Laptops ship with:

RAM: 2GB - 4GB
Storage Size: At least 16GB Upwards
Processor: Chromebooks mostly offer entry-level processors that can easily handle word processing, emails, and movies but lag in more sophisticated procedures like running 3D games and managing several tasks at once.
Screen Size & Resolution: Chromebooks come in Large (14-15 - inches), Medium (13 - inches) and Small (10-11 - inches) HD screens.
Majority of Chromebooks have touch screens, there are also the convertible ones (Fold-able to be tab like)

Who Makes Chromebooks

Chromebooks are manufactured by the major and popular laptop names we are all familiar with, these include: HP, Acer, Dell, Asus, Google, Haier, Hisense, Lenovo, LG, Samsung and Toshiba.

Limitations

If you depend on typical downloadable windows software, such as Photoshop, or other high end video editing software, then the Chromebook is probably not for you. Although there are web based equivalents, but we can we really consider them viable alternatives?

Can The Chromebook Be Your Primary Computing Device?

Yes and No...it depends on the use, ask yourself these questions before getting one.

How comfortable are you working with web based applications?
Are you willing to evolve from the traditional to something new?
With the stated specs, can the Chromebook support the kind of applications you work with?

So, would you get yourself a Chromebook?

Webmasters / Re: What's so Tech About Techguy.ng? - The Review by Datevilme: 3:07pm On May 11, 2017
Copycracker:
Hi, it's me again.

And yes, in my Dj Khaled voice, "It's another one".

I visited techguy.ng with my heart in my hand and two palms together hoping I wouldn't be faced with another site that would make me punch myself in the face.

And let's just say I only wanted to give myself a tiny punch.

Let's begin:

I. Design And Layout

Great, clean design. I definitely give you props on that.

(i)Site Title.

I think the URL probably already told us that it's a Tech site and your logo reinforces that so kudos on that.

(ii) Tagline

Where is your tagline?

Was it kidnapped by Boko?

Please, bring back our tagline. It's all well and good that your Site title and URL reinforce it being about tech, but what kind of tech?

Is it mobile? Is it Android? Is it iPhones or iPads?

You could argue that it's in your header section, etcetera, shmetcetera but we don't know that from a first glance at your site.

The tagline is highly important so the user you want is immediately aware at first glance that your site is for him. Otherwise he could bounce, for realzzz

Get a tagline that tells us exactly what to find on your site.

(iii) Your primary navigation menu

How far na? Have you not been reading my previous reviews?

There's no "Home" bar, "About" or " Contact Us" page. Oga bet why?

Fine. You can argue that most people know that if they click your site logo, they'll be redirected back to your home page, but guy, no be everybody sabi like that... You should still have a home tab for those people that will still try and go retype your URL into your browser to go back to your home page.

Ehen then why no "About Us" page?

You be James Bond? You don't want us to know about you?

And apparently, you also don't want us to contact you.

Get your About Us and Contact us pages set up ASAP.

(iv) No search bar in the header, right side bar or anywhere on your page.

Okay, I'm going to try to explain something to you using this analogy:

When you go to a shop, sometimes you prefer to browse around and see if they have what you're looking for. other times, you just go straight to somebody that works there and ask if they have what you're looking for.

Online it's pretty much like that. Some of you visitors will spend time going round our site trying to find what they're looking for. Other times, they'll need to ask your Search bar if you have what they're looking for.

No Search bar = no way to find out = break in conversation = They bounce and go to the next site.

A high bounce rate = no love from big Daddy Google.

So yeah, you need a search button with a field or a search bar.

(v)Your Right side bar

That section is basically non existent on your site. No search bar, no recent posts, no popular posts, no categories, no subscribe box or social media links

I think you need to put these elements in there. Unless you don't want your visitors to be able to search, look at your recent/ popular posts, know what categories are on your site, subscribe or follow you on social media.

Which would make me wonder- What do you want us to do on your site?

(vi) Your Footer

Would be a great place to put a secondary menu, social media links, maybe categories or practically anything that helps us better use your site.

Right now, there's nothing there.

II. Content

Well, the great thing is that your content is about tech. And I see you write with your unique voice and use words like "lit" which is always a plus in my book cheesy

The not so great things are:

(i) Main content section on your home page: It's not a great idea to cover up the whole screen with one post. It doesn't give us users a chance to see at a glance, all your site has to offer. First we have to scroll past the big pic of a laptop to see what the post is about, then we scroll past the next big pic to see another one and on and on.

Move the picture to the left side and let the titles and text be right beside it. This helps you utilize the space optimally.

(ii) One too many fields in your comment section right below your article

You want to make it easy for people to leave a comment, not harder. Too many fields make them begin to ask the question- "Why does he need this?"

I think "Name", "email" and "Comment" fields are enough. Wetin you wan use their website do?

Remove it.

(iii) I get it. You're writing about tech, but still your headlines have to make it obvious what the benefit of reading the post is.

It's not enough to just throw it up there and expect we will read. In your headline, you have to inspire our curiousity or promise to teach us something in the post.

For example, you could change the headline of that Windows 10S post to "Why Windows 10S is the best OS on the market right now" or "Why you should be running Windows 10S on your computer".

See my point?

Now, other issues:

I. You need to do better keyword research and SEO. I would go into more details, but I feel you should focus on the above issues first, correct them and then you can start focusing on SEO.

II. Put social media links and arrange them vertically in the left sidebar of your posts. It makes it easier for your visitors to just share your posts as they're reading.

III. Where is your subscribe button/ a call to action?

Do you want your visitors to just read and go?

Cos if you don't give them something to stick around for, then I've got old news for you- they won't.

I don't think I need to tell you what that means for your site, or do I?

I have just one major question though- What is the goal of your site? Is it for business or pleasure?

Because if it is for business, you've not really offered anything.. no service or product or anything in particular except your posts. So you might want to do that.

But if it is for pleasure, keep doing what you're doing... even though this is a time of recession and all man gas make money.

Oh yeah, I saw the ad at the top of the site. You placed it nicely, but why not ensure that the products displayed in the ad are all related to your content.

Just a thought.

By the way, if you want me to review your site, please don't put it in the comments section here. Go to https://www.nairaland.com/3765331/post-website-blog-here-get and put it there. It's a pain in the ass having to keep saying it over and over, so please just put it there unless you'd like me to forget I planned to review it. Thank you.

And I'm out.

Happy Hustling.

Great Job bro, i was just smiling throughout, you really gave me a taste of my own medicine (I sabi criticize websites wella).

Its a fairly new blog, not much content yet, the layout will definitely change, just putting out a number of posts first. I appreciate the detail you put into this review, and for free!! You are a great man sir!

I will definitely effect these changes, thanks!

You are welcome and thanks too. Divi is well spoken of, though we stopped using Elegant Themes over 6 years ago so I don't really know Divi's look and feel. Themify Builder is good and if you check the sites that it has been used to build, the flexibility is ok too. Take a look at themify.me and see some of those sites. WPMUdev has also got something too, but their subscription isn't cheap.

Then there is Rocked; we used it for a site in 2015 and it was great. Site is off now. Rocked has got a free and a paid version. Try Rocked and see first.

Thanks, will check them out.

We do lots of sites at Riteblog.com and mainly Wordpress. 1 out of 4 websites on the Internet is based on WP, don't blame us smiley

You can check out Flash Construction Theme by Themegrill (Google it). You can also check some Theme clubs subscription (under $79 can get you over 30 themes for a year). Don't let the construction in the name bother you, we used it for an accounting website (don't tell anyone)!

If you don't want/like or can't get around it, shout out and I'll suggest some others.

Thanks, nice theme, nice website too. I wouldn't mind some other suggestions though, if possible something similar and as flexible as Divi.
