Sunday June 25 equivalent of Shawwal 1 is Sallah, Sultan of Sokoto and President-General Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has said.

Declaring the new moon Saturday night at his Palace in Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar said the new moon was sighted in parts of the country including Borno, Yobe and Adamawa.

He therefore asked Muslims all over Nigeria to cease to fast as it is not permitted to fast on Sallah day.

The Sultan congratulated the Muslims for successful completion of the monthlong fasting period and urged them to keep alive the lessons if Ramadan even after fasting is over.

Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and other Arab countries announced on Saturday that Sunday will be the first day of Eid al-Fitr 1438.

Oman, however, has not sighted the moon, and thus declared Monday June 26 as the first day of Eid al-Fitr.

According to Bangladesh, Pakistan, India will be sighting the moon on Sunday. These countries started Ramadan on May 28 and so Sunday will be the 29th of Ramadan for them.

In what it described as restructuring, the Kaduna State Government on Sunday announced the sacking of 4,776 district and village heads.

It said that the decision was sequel to the recommendations of the committee saddled with the task of reviewing the number of district and village heads.

The government said that the implementation of the report would lead to reorganisation in 77 districts and villages of the state.

The state Commissioner for Local Government, Jafaru Sani, stated this at a press conference held at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Kaduna, on Sunday.

The number of districts in the state increased to 390 with the creation of 313 districts.

Sani said the restructuring was done to reduce the financial burden imposed on the state’s local government councils by the numerous district heads.

He said reducing the financial burden of the councils would enable them to undertake capital projects and deliver the dividends of democracy to the masses.

Before carrying out the current restructuring, the commissioner said the state government consulted the Kaduna State Council of Chiefs which eventually endorsed the exercise.

He noted that the creation of more districts from 2001 increased the number of district heads along with increased personnel cost, saying the district offices added more than 2,700 employees.

Big Brother Naija former housemate, Bobai Balat also known as Bally has given scholarship to 25 poor children in Kaduna State.

Bally who was in Southern Kaduna Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Kafanchan, also donated relief materials including food items to 2,574 persons who have been displaced by the insurgents in the area.

Fielding questions from Journalists at the IDP Camp said the scholarship was necessary in view of the need to transform the society.

‘’Education is key, it is also important to teach this young Women and Children some skills acquisition that will make them self-reliant. When you have something doing it will project you to somewhere.

‘’Those who are into art and craft which is my field will be help to blow them beyond Kaduna State. We have entertainers and actresses in our movement. Before we kick start the Bally Rally Movement, we plan to come back here and stage a peaceful concert were we shall invite everybody in the Community to come together to spread the message of peace and love,’’ Bally added.

‘’The potentials of our teaming Youth in Southern Kaduna has remain untapped; it is time to explore them in the face of the earth.

‘’What we are doing also is to spread peace across which is relevant in our existence as a people, for without peace we can achieve our desired goals,” he added.

The co-ordinator of the IDP Camp, Pastor Gideon Mutum talked about the hardships been experienced in the camp.

He said, the IDPs have” suffered neglect by the present administration despite the ugly calamity that befalls this innocent People who lost their Properties worth billions of naira adding, Children between the ages of 1-5 have forcefully became orphans, married Women between the ages of 18 and 25 are now Widows and helpless in the face of the earth.”

‘’The move to set this camp was inspired between and me and my wife to provide succour and ensure they are not neglected. We have a total registered of 2,574 IDPs and a total of 461 households in our camp,’’ Mutum disclosed.

Bally who visited Agwam Fanstwam, His Highness Musa Didam said,’’ We are here as your Children, we find it pertinent to pay you a visit and to also condoled you on the ugly incident that befall the land before we proceed to the IDP camp to donates relief materials to alleviate their plight.

Agwam Fanstwam, Mr. Didam commended the efforts of the former Big Brother contestant as well as shower lot of royal blessing to the former Big Brother housemate.

While I have never supported the policy of allocating the oil blocks owned exclusively by the Federal Government to selected individuals and foreign oil companies it is pertinent to point out that the list published by the media last week is totally outdated and grossly misleading. The list contained only the names of those who were allocated oil blocks under the defunct military junta. In other words, the list did not contain the names of the other traders who have been allocated oil blocks by the ruling party since 1999. Equally missing from the list are the names of multinational companies otherwise called “Oil majors” which control and manage the lion share of the oil and gas industry. For instance, I have a suit pending at the Federal High Court against the Ministry of Petroleum Resources over the renewal of the expired 40-year old licences of three oil blocks (which produce 580,000 barrels of crude oil per day) for Mobil Producing last year for the sum of $600 million notwithstanding that a Chinese oil company had offered to pay $5.8 billion for the same oil blocks !

I was just being polite, but you don't know. It was always the Sultan who announced the siting of the moon even before TV was common. People stayed around their radio sets to hear the confirmation even when the present Sultan was in primary school. At least this was true for the northern states and the northern provinces before then.
