OtemSapien:Google is free. Use it. CNN, Fox, RT carry news of ghost appearances too. You guys always want to make it look like these are African beliefs and superstitions, but you now know they are not! |
NPComplete:The books are: Prepare for War, He Came to Set the Captives Free and Unbroken Curses — all by Dr Rebecca Brown. Lalasticlala, what do you think? |
Adaumunocha:That's it. If these things are just African stuffs, where did Hollywood get the inspiration to write horror movies involving supernatural power depictions?! Nigerians who deny these things on Nairaland are being hypocritical. |
NPComplete:You may not know, but all these things happen too, over there. I've read at least 3 books written by an American containing true life stories of people, which included these scenarios. |
QueenOfNepal:Kai, you're too low. The same thing you were telling Ky.ase the other time, and I had thought you know him personally! You're funny & greatly mistaken, if you think you're talking to a 'Jambite'. You rain all sort of insults on your leaders, but you hate to receive the minutest correction, passed to you in a very civil way. |
QueenOfNepal:If anyone is involved in juvenile trolling here, it's you. What does that harmless/sensible comment have to do with trolling? Compare the abusive language you use on this platform to that comment and see the difference. |
To all the post-modern and nothing-like-spiritual-powers sayers, come and see the truth. Belief in the the existence of spiritual powers is not held by "poor Africans" only! MODIFIED Many Europeans and Americans are highly into the occult and blood sacrifices, even whilst still claiming atheist. cc: Analice107, Hopefullandlord, KingEbukasblog, GodsMopol |
REAL LIFE GHOST EXPERIENCES 1. Writing's on the wall "After living in my new house for five months or so, I decide to take a shower. One of my friends had just slept over. I had taken a crap ton of showers in that bathroom already, so it's not like it was anything new. So I take my shower, get out to dry off, and look at the steamed up mirror. On the mirror, in PERFECT writing (no human could do with their finger) read something along the lines of "Dear father, please forgive me" I completely forget the rest because I was just so freaked out. But it was terrifying. The bat door was locked the entire time, and no one could have got in. It had also never been there any other time I took a shower." 2. Mirror, mirror "A friend of mine moved into a new home. One day while cleaning, he accidentally knocked down a hanging mirror, shattering it into hundreds of pieces. He laid the mirror frame on the kitchen table and went down to the basement to get a broom to sweep up the glass. When he got upstairs, all of the pieces had been lain, exactly to the last piece, back into the frame. My friend had only left the mirror for a minute and there was no one else in the house. - http://www.cosmopolitan.com/uk/reports/a12785715/ghost-stories-scary-spooky-reddit/ |
2. The White House Address: 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW City: Washington D.C. Website: whitehouse.gov After his 11-year-old son Willie died of typhoid fever in 1862, Abraham Lincoln is said to have suffered aural and/or visual hallucinations wandering the WH halls, and his wife Mary Todd held seances in an effort to speak to her dead son (only to be visited by Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson instead). After Lincoln's assassination, Ulysses S. Grant continued that tradition and believed that he had contacted the ghost of Willie. Theodore Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and Jacqueline Kennedy (among others) claimed to have seen Abraham Lincoln's ghost, and most recently Michelle Obama reported being awoken in the middle of the night by strange sounds. |
About three in four Americans profess at least one paranormal belief, according to a recent Gallup survey. The most popular is extrasensory perception (ESP), mentioned by 41%, followed closely by belief in haunted houses (37%). - http://news.gallup.com/poll/16915/three-four-americans-believe-paranormal.aspx TRUE LIFE STORIES OF HAUNTED HOUSES IN THE US A haunted house or ghosthouse is a house or other building often perceived as being inhabited by disembodied spirits of the deceased who may have been former residents or were familiar with the property. Parapsychologists attribute haunting to the spirits of the dead and the effect of violent or tragic events in the building's past such as murder, accidental death, or suicide. - Wikipedia 1. Pittock Mansion Address: 3229 NW Pittock Dr. City: Portland, Ore. Website: pittockmansion.org A 22-room French chateau in the hills overlooking downtown Portland built in 1922, the Pittock Mansion was the site of only two deaths (original residents Georgiana [1918; age 72] and Henry Pittock [1919; age 84]) and one political scandal (Pittock was able to get a water line installed to the mansion at the city's expense, despite the property being outside city limits), but since being opened to the public in 1965, it's been host to a number of ghost sightings, including floating old ladies, boots walking without legs, portraits moving of their own accord, windows opening and shutting themselves, and, perhaps most improbably, a tree with a face in it. The Mansion was also where the 1982 slasher film Unhinged and Madonna's 1993 answer-to-Sharon-Stone's- Basic-Instinct clunker Body of Evidence were filmed. |
I compiled this in response to varying disbelief held by many Nairalanders whenever stories of witches and the likes are "published" here. Nigerians can be very hypocritical. Many of those who are quick to dismiss the possibility of witches, ghosts, demons, etc, never fail to pray against the activities of witches and wizards, in their closet. They only want to appear modern and Behind online, whereas they believe spiritual powers exist. Are Americans becoming less religious? While church affiliation is probably declining, don’t expect the atheist revolution anytime soon: Over one half (63 percent, to be exact) of young Americans 18-29 years old now believe in the notion that invisible, non-corporeal entities called “demons” can take partial or total control of human beings, revealed an October 2012 Public Policy Polling survey that also showed this belief isn’t declining among the American population generally; it’s growing. Now, PPP was among the top five polling firms in terms of accuracy in forecasting the 2012 election results, so there is good reason to take the survey finding seriously. https://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/4163588 More to come.. |
chynie:Freeze our Luther? I know you're kidding. Yes, my brother, some of the things the catholic church were doing are now being replicated by the Protestants,, which is very unfortunate. But then the difference is still being made clear by the churches who are not treading that path. |

CONCLUSION It seems as though our culture is affecting us more than we are affecting our culture. We need Christians today who will take a stand for what is right, who will turn this world upside down as the early church did. We need more believers today to be both salt and light in our culture. Sure, we could some more preachers, teachers, evangelists and missionaries. But we also need Christian journalists. We need Christian broadcasters, artists, doctors and lawyers. We need believers letting their light shine in professional sports, in politics, in entertainment and in the business world. We need truly godly police officers and godly people in the military. We need to go out there and be true believers and turn our world upside down. You may say, “Greg, I’m not a preacher.” That’s OK. People need to see a flesh-and-blood Christian, a real man or woman of God living the Christian life in the same neighborhood where they live, in the same place where they work, and at the same school where they attend. They need to see the real thing. God can use you. Maybe you’re not a preacher, but you can proclaim the gospel message through your life and through your words. You can turn your world upside down. |
3. Buying indulgences gives people a false sense of security and endangers their salvation. "Indulgences are positively harmful to the recipient because they impede salvation by diverting charity and inducing a false sense of security. Christians should be taught that he who gives to the poor is better than he who receives a pardon. He who spends money on indulgences instead of relieving want receives not the indulgence of the pope but the indignation of God. Every Christian who feels sincere repentance and woe on account of his sins, has perfect remission of pain and guilt even without letters of indulgence. |
1. Selling indulgences to finance the building of St. Peter's is wrong. "The revenues of all Christendom are being sucked into this insatiable basilica. The Germans laugh at calling this the common treasure of Christendom. Before long, all the churches, palaces, walls and bridges of Rome will be built out of our money. First of all, we should rear living temples, not local churches, and only last of all St. Peter's, which is not necessary for us. We Germans cannot attend St. Peter's. Better that it should never be built than that our parochial churches should be despoiled. ... Why doesn't the pope build the basilica of St. Peter's out of his own money? He is richer than Croesus. He would do better to sell St. Peter's and give the money to the poor folk who are being fleeced by the hawkers of indulgences." 2. The pope has no power over Purgatory. "Papal indulgences do not remove guilt. Beware of those who say that indulgences effect reconciliation with God. ... He who is contrite has plenary remission of guilt and penalty without indulgences. The pope can only remove those penalties which he himself has imposed on earth, for Christ did not say, 'Whatsoever I have bound in heaven you may loose on earth.' |
INTRODUCTION Five hundred years ago, on Oct. 31, 1517, Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the castle church door in Wittenberg, sparking the beginning of the Protestant Reformation. Pastor Erwin Lutzer said of the Reformation, “Many of us believe that it is, by all accounts, the most important recovery of the gospel since the days of the New Testament. … We have to rediscover these same truths if we want our own churches to be all they can be for the glory of God.” The Protestant Reformation was the 16th-century religious, political, intellectual and cultural upheaval that splintered Catholic Europe, setting in place the structures and beliefs that would define the continent in the modern era. In northern and central Europe, reformers like Martin Luther, John Calvin and Henry VIII challenged papal authority and questioned the Catholic Church’s ability to define Christian practice. They argued for a religious and political redistribution of power into the hands of Bible- and pamphlet-reading pastors and princes. The disruption triggered wars, persecutions and the so-called Counter-Reformation, the Catholic Church’s delayed but forceful response to the Protestants. THE REFORMATION: GERMANY AND LUTHERANISM Martin Luther (1483-1546) was an Augustinian monk and university lecturer in Wittenberg when he composed his “95 Theses,” which protested the pope’s sale of reprieves from penance, or indulgences. Although he had hoped to spur renewal from within the church, in 1521 he was summoned before the Diet of Worms and excommunicated. Sheltered by Friedrich, elector of Saxony, Luther translated the Bible into German and continued his output of vernacular pamphlets. https://kpbs.media.clients.ellingtoncms.com/img/croppedphotos/2017/08/22/Reformation_Holy_Orders_by_Poussin_t800.jpg When German peasants, inspired in part by Luther’s empowering “priesthood of all believers,” revolted in 1524, Luther sided with Germany’s princes. By the Reformation’s end, Lutheranism had become the state "religion" throughout much of Germany, Scandinavia and the Baltics. Iseeit, erase suicide from your mind. If everyone facing challenges decide to go that path, life would become useless. If I have I'd easily extend a hand of help to you. Shun the negative, insultive comments you're getting here. I heard a true life story of a man who was very poor and jobless... Eating was always difficult. There was a day this man was walking on the road going to look for job that he became very hungry that he began praying in his mind that God should at least allow a vehicle to hit him so that they could take him to the hospital and then feed him while being treated. That didn't happen. The story is not ended, because this man is a millionaire today. He gave this testimony in a church. What if this man had decided to end his life? Take courage bro. It's not always the first to finish to start a race, school, business, campaign that comes out successful at the end. Within the last one month alone, at least 4 corp members in the state where I'm currently serving have died. These were either new corpers or ones who should be passing out in a few days time. You can see how unpredictable life is. Refuse to give up as you continue to seek for help. You'll give a testimony soonest. Well wishes |

The Bible says he that covers his sin will not prosper ( have peace, at rest, etc). The first step to forgiveness is always confession to God & repentance. And to repent is to have remorse over your action and then make a 360° turn from it. I'll make other comments but will be spread separately. |
How many times will they"conclude"? Between 2015 & now, I have lost count of the different times this headline graced Nairaland. Trash! |
MrPresident1:Sorry if I sounded harsh, I don't intend to cause any harm. But bro, reappraise your stand and see whether your claims are not a total deviation from the bible we all know. Good morning. I'll follow you, follow back. |
Seun:That thread doesn't provide a direct way to address this question. The title itself is unappealing and the content too, evasive and vague. |
MrPresident1:To be very frank with you, you're teaching heresies and doctrines of demons. Yes, that's the truth. I'm praying for you. |

They should hold Metuh who asked the court to invite Jonathan. Is Jonathan God? No. While former South Korea's president is currently in a one room prison complaining of cold, it's a shame Nigerians think there are people who should be above the law. |
MrPresident1:People unknowingly delve into mysticism when they try to read spiritual meanings to every happening. It's a demonic trap, but unfortunately the person assumes he's getting more spiritual. Why don't you also talk about things that are not "deep"? Why don't you comment on threads opened by other Christians like others do, instead of concentrating on your own threads only? What you're doing is how people build unhealthy cult followership around themselves, leading to very negative things in the long run. |
“Records at the disposal of our forum indicate that while the five other politicians have no evidence of whether they disbursed the monies given to them during the campaigns as promised or not, Bafarawa did pay all the stakeholders he was assigned to pay, through electronic funds transfer. For those of you above criticising Buhari, take time to read the above. These are paid youth who are trying to launder the image of Bafarawa. Where did they get all this information from if they themselves did not benefit from sharing of the money? They're simply using the current state of things to try to bail Bafarawa out. Laughable. |

That didn't happen.
