There's a world of difference between "There should be a god" and "Yahweh is God", the difference is huge and atheists have battered their arguments for the latter and now they only use the former; that seems to be what OP is referring to

Dear Nairaland Christians, we can't afford to spend the whole of our time arguing and debating atheists, while leaving out the very Gospel itself. The Gospel has to be preached to church goers too. Fornicators, thieves masturbators, adulterers, porn watchers, need the Gospel too. Let's try to reach out to these sets of people. Many of them now even feel like all that's required of them is to be THEIST while living like the atheists who do not subscribe to any morals.

That's a point, but I'll put it this way: they think all that matters is being a THEIST alone. They want to be able to match the atheists on the intellectual plane, without been able to convince or win them over. In fact without having am innate interest to convert them but just to debate them to feel they can also apply reason aside faith. Selah.

I once heard the respected Christian Apologist Dr Ravi Zacharias who himself is a full time minister travelling around the world debating/preaching to atheists, Muslims, Buddhists, say this same thing. He warned against focusing the whole of our attention on converting atheists while our own personal Christian life needs an attention.

And he himself has diverse preaching focus: apart from his Apologistic work, he preaches on marriage, how to handle suffering, and many others. You see, he's not a oneway traffic man. Pls let's be wise. Let's take back this section from the atheists!

OP the Christians u are talking about aren't any different from the atheists. Apart from their believe or not in a deity, there's nothing else that separates them.
Most of them fornicate, lust and regularly go through the same things everyday so Christians here have nothing to offer to anyone.
As a matter of fact, those Christians are even men of weaker character than the atheists. You are very likely to see a foulmouthed, lying and cheating Christian here. The only difference is he lays claim to a deity and hold it over other people's head to assuage his guilt and shortcomings: that's the only way their lives have meaning.

This is actually truth - coming from a non religious person like you. Many Christians here are masking their whole life on debating atheists, forgetting that being a Christian theist is not all that is. They're forgetting the "weightier parts of the matter" that if they themselves don't live godly lives they'll still end up in same hell as atheists (I know you don't believe this, but I'll say it nonetheless).

Some Christians feel that the modern definition of religion doesn't fit into the message of Christ therfore their stand on choosing not to refer to the Christian faith as a religion. But as you can see, there's a biblical reference to defend otherwise.

I have had this burden on me for at least two weeks now. It's been eating me, literally.
It's sickening to see that whenever one comes into this section, nearly 80% of the topics are about how to mock atheism or prove that we've read widely enough to quote several Christian researchers who either said atheism is this or that. We've left the message of the cross ➕ to constantly engage atheists in endless threads which are serving very little purpose. We are falling for the prey of the devil to think that our major message on this board is how to counter atheists, with different philosophical, intelligent, impressive quotes.
Brethren, we're missing it o.

Why can't we open threads where we can have discussion on how to watch out against subtle sins in our own lives, how to have a godly dating relationship, examine the doctrine of justification, the Rapture, good neighbourliness, how to win over family members who are yet to be saved, how to live peaceably with unbelievers without compromising our faith and whole lot of others?

Why must all of our threads be on atheism when there are "Christians" who are fornicators, secret cult members, adulterers, bribe takers and givers, fighters, etc?

Why can't we open threads to encourage other Christians who are facing tough times and are almost ready to call it quits with God or even take their own life?

20 years ago. We used to occasionally raise money for missions. The money raised is announced. Those going to preach are brought out and prayed for. Church pays them at the field and take care of their families. It was a small local church. I am now in Abuja and an not count 5 churches with missionaries in the field. Or seriously funding missions. What we see is posh cars, jets and house warming.pastors family all schooling abroad and some come on pulpit to tell you that they don't collect salaries from the church and it's not your tithe and offering sustaining the church.

Most pastors do not want to answerable to anyone when it comes to church funds.

We build gigantic structures and preach to same people every Sunday. These people have heard of Christ and you keep them in a building preaching and collecting tithes and offerings. When the money become much they announce they are opening another branch in a beautiful city where income is guaranteed. There was never a place Bible recorded that money or contribution s made by the early church was spent in building a house or a church.

Even the Malachi 3:10 Nigerian pastors anchor on say bring ye tithe into my store house that there may be food. Food food. Who eats food in church. People who can't afford it .the poor. Tithe is to meet immediate needs first before buildings and cars and lavish life style. People attend services and go home not sure of where the next meal will come from and you collect the balance on them in the name of offering and drive home in A posh car. Some of our pastors are so surrounded by securities that a member who has no food cant even reach him. They invite pastors who will come out and call for a million naira seed, you think it ends there. They call 500, 200, 50k, 10k 1k till they tell you to drop whatever you have. To avert the curse. Which curse when Bible clearly tells us that Christ has redeem us from every curse of the law. They say pay that the devourers are rebuked. Christ said whatever is born of God over comes the world.

We must change our ways. Judgement is coming...
