Uzoma hails judiciary for acquitting Abba Khari over drug related allegations



The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to His Imperial Majesty, Ooni of Ife on South East Matters, Hon. Ani Uzoma, has hailed the Federal High Court Abuja for acquitting and discharging a senior police officer, Abba Khari, over alleged case of drug peddling.

A Federal High Court in Abuja had on the 5th of March discharged and acquitted Kyari and 9 others.

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court Abuja had on his ruling averred that the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency was unable to prove their allegations of drug related crimes against Abba Kyari.


Reacting to the ruling, Hon. Ani described it as a welcome development.

In a statement he issued in Abuja, Ani congratulated Mr. Kyari on his freedom and urged him out the ugly experiences behind him and continue to work for the progress of the nation.


According to him "the recent court judgement discharging and acquitting Celebrity Police Chief Abba Kyari from all charges with NDLEA marks a significant milestone in his journey. This outcome is a testament to his strength and resilience in the face of adversity.

Ebonyi Gov Backs Tinubu's Re-Election, Praises City Boy Movement


Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has commended the City Boy Movement for mobilizing support for President Bola Tinubu's re-election.

The governor stated this while receiving the group's Southeast leaders, led by Chief Obinna Iyiegbu (Obi Cubana), at the Government House in Abakaliki

Nwifuru described the group's efforts as "inspiring" and "encouraging", saying their participation strengthens democracy.

He urged them to balance their political activities with business interests, noting that Ndigbo are increasingly recognizing the importance of active participation in national politics in order to attract federal projects and appointments.

He reiterated his support for President Tinubu’s administration, describing the president’s re-election as an important political objective for Ebonyi State.

Nwifuru also cited federal government projects in the Southeast and the appointment of former Ebonyi State governor, Engineer Dave Umahi, as Minister of Works as evidence of the administration’s commitment to the region. He listed ongoing projects such as the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, and Aba–Port Harcourt Expressway as key infrastructural developments currently underway in the Southeast.

The Governor also congratulated Ebonyi State Director Enviable Ituma Chukwuemeka and other state leaders, assuring them of government support

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Chief Obinna Iyiegbu, said they came to brief the governor on the activities of the group in the region.

He described the City Boy Movement as a bipartisan political group committed to mobilizing support for President Tinubu’s second term in office.

He said the visit was aimed at paying respects to the governor and affirming that the movement’s activities align with the political direction of the Ebonyi State government.

According to him, several prominent sons of Ebonyi State are actively involved in the movement. He noted that Chukwumeka Ituma, popularly known as Enviable, serves as the State Director of the group, while the Deputy Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon. Chinedu Onah, is the State Coordinator.



The Southeast zonal leadership team also used the opportunity of their visit to Ebonyi State to inaugurate the state leadership of the movement at a well-attended rally. At the event, Chief Iyiegbu charged the hundreds of support groups drawn from wards across the state to actively join the mobilisation efforts for the re-election of President Tinubu.

Nigeria Youth Organisation, NYO condemns campaign of calumny against Umahi, calls for probe




The Nigeria Youth Organisation (NYO) has expressed deep concern over online videos and social media commentaries against Works Minister, Sen David Umahi by one Mrs. Tracy Ohiri which it said was aimed at discrediting him.

The organization said in one of the videos currently trending across multiple digital platforms, Mrs. Ohiri made remarks which not only sought to malign the Minister but also extended disparaging commentary towards the prosecutorial authority involved in ongoing legal processes, going as far as describing the prosecutor as a criminal.

In a statement signed by its President, Okorie C. Okorie and Secretary, Oluwabukunmi Awolola , the organization observed that a careful review of the said publications reveals speeches that are largely incoherent and videos that are inconsistent in both content and presentation.

"Notably, the commentator has also been inconsistent with respect to the dates and figures of money allegedly owed — at one instance alleging a sum of ₦25,000,000 and at another ₦250,000,000, while also variously referencing timelines of 3 years, 9 years and 12 years — thereby raising further concerns as to the credibility of the claims being propagated in the public space.

"While the Nigeria Youth Organisation respects the constitutional right of every Nigerian to freedom of expression, we strongly condemn the growing trend of reckless, unsubstantiated and potentially coordinated online attacks targeted at public officials who are actively engaged in national development efforts.

"We advise Nigerians to exercise caution in consuming digital content and to refrain from believing everything encountered online without undertaking basic and responsible verification.

"We are particularly concerned by the timing, pattern and amplification of these commentaries, which raise legitimate questions as to whether such publications are spontaneous expressions of opinion or part of a sponsored attempt to distract and undermine the ongoing infrastructural reforms being championed by the Honourable Minister of Works. Nigerians must guard against being swayed by sentiment and emotional manipulation capable of distorting objective public discourse.

"If indeed Mrs. Tracy Nicholas Ohiri believes she has a valid cause of action against the Honourable Minister, the appropriate forum for ventilating such grievances remains a court of competent jurisdiction and not the court of social media opinion.

"Senator Engr. David Nweze Umahi has, since assumption of office, distinguished himself through measurable performance in the execution and revitalisation of critical road infrastructure across the federation. His stewardship in the works sector has attracted commendation from stakeholders across professional, civic and youth constituencies. He undoubtedly deserves accolades for the giant strides he has recorded so far rather than the vilification arising from sponsored emotional and blackmailing contents.

"At a time when Nigeria requires focused leadership and sustained commitment towards economic recovery through infrastructural development, the Nigeria Youth Organisation considers any deliberate attempt to derail performing public servants through orchestrated misinformation campaigns as deeply regrettable and inimical to national progress.

"Accordingly, we call on the relevant security and regulatory agencies to investigate the origin, intent and possible sponsorship behind these trending publications in order to ascertain whether they form part of a coordinated digital misinformation campaign designed to discredit a serving public official and impede ongoing developmental initiatives.

"The Nigeria Youth Organisation wishes to reiterate its unwavering support for accountability, due process and responsible civic engagement. However, such engagement must be pursued within the bounds of decency, truth and national interest.

"For the avoidance of doubt, Nigerian youths will resist any attempt to coerce or pressure the Honourable Minister into making any form of payment outside the dictates of the law, and should any such payment be made without due judicial pronouncement, we shall not hesitate to seek appropriate legal redress in a court of competent jurisdiction", the organization said.

Tinubu approves reconstruction of three federal roads in Niger State.






President Bola Tinubu has approved immediate reconstruction of three federal roads in Niger State.

A statement from Francis Nwaze, Senior Special Assistant to Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi listed the three roads as Mokwa–Bida Road (120km), Mokwa–Makeri Road (63km) and Bida–Labata Road (123.5km) totaling 306.5km.

Nwaze said the roads will be reconstructed using reinforced concrete pavement to ensure durability and long-term value.

He disclosed that the President has also approved the extension of the Bodo–Bonny Road to connect with the East–West Road.

"The project will be executed on a dual carriageway capacity, constructed with concrete pavement, and equipped with solar-powered street lighting. The project will be delivered through a competitive bidding process.

"The Honourable Minister of Works, His Excellency Senator Engr. David Umahi, CON, has expressed deep appreciation to Mr. President for these strategic approvals, noting that the projects fall within critical national economic corridors and will significantly enhance connectivity, trade, and development.

"He called on Nigerians to acknowledge and appreciate the administration’s sustained commitment to infrastructure development across the six geopolitical zones, particularly in the delivery of quality roads and bridges nationwide.

"The Minister congratulated the governors and good people of Niger and Rivers States, as well as all Nigerians who stand to benefit from these landmark approvals.

Umahi's Office Slams Sowore's Viral Video as Misleading, Says Police Act on Petition


The Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, has denied deploying the police to settle a personal score with businesswoman Tracynither Nicolas Ohiri, describing a viral video by Omoyele Sowore as "misleading".

Francis Nwaze, Senior Special Assistant to the Minister, stated that the police acted on a petition by Umahi's lawyer, inviting him for statements as part of standard procedure.

Ohiri alleges Umahi owes her ₦250 million for campaign materials and claims she was arrested and detained in Abuja after refusing to date him.

Nwaze accused Sowore of "attempting to dramatise a lawful investigative process" and described his actions as "performative activism". The police investigation is ongoing, with Umahi's office maintaining the Minister respects due process.

"For clarity and public record, the allegations being referenced by Mr. Sowore were made by one Mrs. Tracy Ohiri and have been in the public space since last year. These claims, bordering on alleged assault and unpaid campaign materials, have been repeatedly published through social media videos and writings".

"It is important to state that her accounts have been inconsistent, contradictory, and lacking coherence, a fact that has been widely observed by members of the public who have followed the matter over time".

"Contrary to the misleading narrative being pushed by Sowore, the Honourable Minister did not deploy the police to settle any personal score. The Nigeria Police Force, acting within its constitutional mandate to maintain law and order and investigate complaints, acted on a petition submitted by the Minister’s lawyer, arrested her and invited the Honourable Minister in line with standard procedure for statements".

A frontline support group for President Tinubu, Tinubu Support Organization (TSO), led by its National Coordinator and Founder, Hon. Aminu Suleiman, has arrived in Ebonyi State to galvanize support and seek collaboration with different groups to ensure President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's victory in the 2027 general election.

Upon arrival, Hon. Aminu received a warm and honourable welcome from TSO members and officials in Ebonyi and the Southeast.

Speaking with journalists at Remeritona Hotel, Abakaliki, he said the organization is working with Southeast Governors to secure massive votes for Mr. President.

"We're here to ensure Ebonyi State and the entire Southeast support Bola Ahmed Tinubu's reelection in 2027," Suleiman said.

"This is my second visit to Ebonyi State after the last presidential election. This time, the Southeast TSO Director, Ekechi Celestine, has brought me to meet Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru because Ebonyi is key, given former Governor David Umahi's influence, and they're both doing well for President Tinubu."

The Southeast Director of TSO, Chief Celestine Ekechi, said the organization is going to work very hard to ensure proper voter sensitization and campaign, as voter registration is ongoing through the efforts of the organization and INEC.

Ebonyi: Sen. Nwebonyi Lauded for Mbeke Ishieke Market Revamp Amidst Community Praise




Major stakeholders of Ishieke Mgbomeze Kingdom, particularly Mbeke Ishieke Community, have commended Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi
the Senate Deputy Chief Whip and Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, for his remarkable developmental strides, especially the ongoing remodeling of the Nwori Isophumini Mbeke Ishieke Market.

The stakeholders made this known during an enlarged stakeholders meeting at Community Secondary School, Mbeke, convened by Ebonyi Local Government Chairman, Prince Chinedu Uburu to address concerns raised by some individuals opposed to the remodeling process.

Some individuals from Isophumini village had petitioned the chairman, alleging that Senator Nwebonyi was forcefully taking their lands. The petition had led to tensions in the area.


Prince Uburu described the project as a welcome development, noting that the process must be harmonized to instill confidence in shop owners.

In his remarks,the Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Dr. Mathew Nwobashi, stated that the land was formally acquired in line with the Land Use Act and that affected shop owners were duly notified about the remodeling.

He urged the community to embrace the sweeping development initiatives taking place.

Senator Nwebonyi who was represented by the Member 1 in Ebonyi State Civil Service Commission, Chief Chris Uchaji noted that he has vowed to transform Mbeke Ishieke community into one of the best satellite towns in Nigeria through the remodeling of the Nwori market and other critical infrastructures because charity begins at home adding that other parts of Ebonyi North zone are receiving equal attention. He called on the people to corporate with the contractor to ensure speedy delivery of the projects.

Representing the Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Chief Mathias Adum, noted that the remodeling became necessary due to the ongoing construction of Trunk A Road and other social amenities attracted to the area by Senator Nwebonyi. The Nzuko Edda General Assembly has called on the Ebonyi State Government and security agencies to swiftly apprehend and prosecute suspected Amasiri warlords involved in the recent attack on Okporojo community in Edda Local Government Area.

The Assembly made this demand following an emergency meeting of traditional rulers, village chiefs, and town union Presidents from Edda's autonomous communities and 72 villages, held under the auspices of Nzuko Edda General Assembly at Osisioma Playground, Edda.

The meeting responded to what it described as unprovoked violence that claimed several lives and destroyed properties.

Reading a communiqué, His Royal Highness Ezeogo Charles Azuenya, Owu XII of Ebunwana Edda, lamented the persistent attacks on villages in Idima Autonomous Community, including Okporojo, Akanto, Ozara-Oko-Ugwu, Nde-Oko, and Amaiyima.

"Our people can no longer remain silent while lives, homes, and dignity are being systematically destroyed. The situation has reached a critical point," Azuenya said.

He alleged that over 75 indigenes of Edda communities have been killed in the past three years, with dozens of homes burnt and entire villages displaced.

The latest invasion of Okporojo on January 29, 2026, marked a dangerous escalation, resulting in fresh killings, abductions, and destruction of the community. "At least four indigenes were brutally murdered in their homes, while three were reportedly beheaded. This level of cruelty is unacceptable and must not go unanswered," he stated.

The monarch acknowledged Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru's efforts in promoting peace but accused the Amasiri community of disregarding government directives.

The assembly appealed to the state government to deploy security personnel, rebuild destroyed communities, resettle displaced residents, and ensure perpetrators are brought to justice.


"The recent invasion of Okporojo village on 29th January, 2026, resulting in further killings, abductions, and the complete destruction of Okporojo village, is a clear and further escalation of hostilities that cannot go unanswered. At least four indigenes of Okporojo and Ogiri were brutally killed in their homes with three of them beheaded by Amasiri people. Amasiri, again, rejoiced home with the heads of three sons of Edda, perhaps, as trophies they have won".

"Despite the State Governor's personal interventions and calls for peace, Amasiri has displayed a blatant disregard for government directives. Their defiance not only undermines the authority of government but also places the safety and security of Edda Clan, especially Edda villages in Idima autonomous community in jeopardy".

"This naked impunity and violence has created a climate of skepticism on the minds of our people as to what has become of the good intentions of government about our people. Let it once again be known tha Edda has, indeed, exercised maximum restraint out of our respect for rule of law and government. Edda Clan and indeed our villages in Idima autonomous Community can no longer live in the shadow of constant killings and threats".

"We implore the government of Ebonyi State to take decisive and immediate actions to: Protect Okporojo and other villages in Idima autonomous Community;
"Rebuild and resettle the displaced people of Okporojo and other villages rendered homeless and driven away by Amasiri people from their ancestral homes. Government should come to the immediate rescue of the displaced people of Okporojo;

"Ensure the safety of our people and provide necessary security measures to prevent further attacks;.
Hold Perpetrators Accountable by implementing strict measures against those responsible for the violence, including the initiation of legal proceedings against members of the Amasiri militia and their leaders" the Assembly stated.


The President General of Oso Edda Development Union, Mr. Ama Eba Eme, described the incident as horrific, urging authorities to restore peace. "We appeal to the government and security agencies to act fast. Our people deserve safety, justice, and the opportunity to return to their homes," Eme said.

Oko Onuoha Pledges Humility, Transparency in Edda APC Chairmanship Bid

UBEB Teachers applaud Nwifuru for ₦100k Xmas Bonus, Ask for More


Teachers of the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) in Ebonyi state have lauded Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for listening to their yearnings and promptly paying them ₦100,000 as part of the 2025 Christmas bonus.

The teachers had earlier appealed to Governor Nwifuru to mandate local government chairmen to pay them the bonus, which was given to their counterparts at the senior secondary school levels to enable them to celebrate the yuletide.

Speaking on behalf of the teachers, Mr. Ottah Ibiam, a Grade Level 13 civil servant at Ebunwana Model Girls Secondary School in Edda Local Government Area, thanked Governor Nwifuru for his prompt intervention and appealed for more welfare packages for his members.

"We appreciate the governor for paying us the ₦100,000 bonus. However, state workers received ₦150,000, while we got ₦100,000. We still await the remaining ₦50,000," Ibiam said.

He commended the governor's swift response, describing it as proof of his commitment to prioritizing workers' welfare. Ibiam also appealed for the inclusion of UBEB teachers in the ₦20,000 salary increment.

"We remind the governor of the ₦20,000 increment and the 2024 bonus that others have received. Most teachers in primary and junior secondary schools are yet to receive it. We pray he continues his good works," Ibiam added.

Ebonyi Govt Pledges Partnership with NEW Foundation to Eradicate Gender-Based Violence




The Ebonyi state government yesterday pledged to partner with Neighborhood Environmental Watch (NEW) Foundation in eradicating gender based violence across the 13 local government areas of the state.

The state commissioner for Women
Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Felicia Nwamkpuma gave this assurance when she received members of NEW Foundation at her office in Abakaliki the state capital.

Nwamkpuma further added that the state would join hands with NEW Foundation's male feminists to actively engage men as allies in the fight against Gender Based Violence.

According to her, "I want to assure you and your partners that Ebonyi state ministry of women affairs and Development team would work to back up NEW Foundation at any time support is required."

"This is because your agenda is in tune with the manifesto of our state governor" "People's Charter of Needs"Targeted at promoting women's welfare, protection, and empowerment, and eradicating gender-based violence in the state.

Gov Nwifuru Pledges to Integrate Local Football Talents into Abakaliki FC






The Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has pledged that outstanding footballers discovered from grassroots competitions across the state will be integrated into the Abakaliki FC feeder team.


The governor made the pledge while addressing journalists during the flag-off ceremony of the FON Youth Movement Ebonyi North Constituency Competition, sponsored by Chief Chikadoli Ojemba, and held at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki.


Governor Nwifuru, who was represented at the event by the State Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Prince Richard Idike, described football as a unifying force and commended the organisers of the competition for providing a platform to discover and nurture young talents.

The Commissioner expressed confidence that Ebonyi indigenous players would soon dominate Abakaliki FC, noting that while professional football requires more than raw talent, many gifted players in the state only need proper training and exposure to compete at higher levels.

He explained that Abakaliki FC currently operates both a main team and a feeder team, with full approval and support from the state government.

According to him, although player registration is limited to the beginning of the season, the club is actively scouting talents from ongoing competitions such as the Enviable Tournament, Darlington Football competition among other local teams within the state, with plans to integrate them into the team by next season.

Comrade Emerike said the initiative was aimed at bringing youths together to promote peace, unity and mutual understanding, adding that the competition would be expanded beyond Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone in subsequent editions to accommodate more youths across the state.

The FON Youth Ebonyi North Zone sports competition has the winner going home with a prize of three million naira, while the second and third positions will receive two million naira and two million, five hundred thousand naira respectively.

The competition offers prizes of three million naira for the winner, two million naira for the runner-up, and two million, five hundred thousand naira for the third-place team.

The match ended on a thrilling 3–3 draw against Ohaukwu South East.

Abakaliki to Get Steady Water Supply by Q1 2026 - Commissioner Nkah





The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Chinedum Magnus Nkah, has assured residents of Abakaliki and its environs that the era of water scarcity will soon be over, stating that by the first quarter of next year, steady water supply will be restored across the capital city.


Hon. Nkah gave the assurance on Thursday during an inspection visit to the Low Lift Station of the Old Abakaliki Water Scheme, describing the project as one of the signature interventions of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s administration.

He recalled that when the governor inspected the facility about a year ago, it had been heavily vandalized, with most of the infrastructure dating back to the Jim Nwobodo era rendered nonfunctional.

“I can assure you that by the first quarter of next year, the story of water scarcity will be over in Abakaliki urban.

"This project is a strong testament to the governor’s commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises,” he said.

The commissioner explained that the ministry has received the necessary pumping equipment and is currently concluding the installation of a new engine and transformer at the Low Lift Station, after which water reticulation will commence.

Hon. Nkah also disclosed that efforts are underway to expand water sources in the state.

According to him, work is ongoing to add two new sources to the Ezillo Water Scheme, while piping for the Ishiagu Water Scheme is expected to begin in the next fiscal year.

He added that clearing has been completed at the Ukawu Water Scheme to enable full-scale work in 2026.

“You can agree with me that His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has delivered on his promises within the limits of available resources.

"In the next one year, Ebonyians will forget everything about water scarcity,” the commissioner stressed.

He also noted that the state government is working to secure areas affected by ongoing construction, especially places where water infrastructure passes through residential settlements.

Hon. Nkah appealed to residents of Abakaliki and surrounding communities to connect water to their homes, as government is determined to restore adequate supply to all parts of the metropolis.

Breaking Down Barriers: Isuikwuato Indigene Trained on Human Rights and Social Norms



A group, Neighborhood Environmental Watch (NEW) Foundation, has trained selected stakeholders from Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State on the need to advocate against harmful social norms and human rights abuses.

The training aimed to equip men with knowledge and skills to become positive bystanders in changing toxic gender norms that have limited the potential of both males and females in the area ¹.

The Executive Director of NEW Foundation, Dr. Kelechukwu Okezie, emphasized that gender-based violence is a crime against humanity and that patriarchal norms inherited from forefathers need to change.

He stated that the foundation is committed to building a vibrant men's community feminist network to champion social justice in Abia and South East states.

The facilitator, Dr. Chukwuemeka Okoro, guided participants through the nature of gender-based violence, its causes, and impact on families and community development. Participants were encouraged to relieve lived cultural practices and norms, noting that some harmful practices are against social justice and equity.

Chief Cyril Odomanam, a participant, thanked NEW Foundation and its partners for organizing the timely program and called for more interventions in addressing norms, inequality, and cultural practices in the area.

NZUKO Edda Appeals to Governor Nwifuru to Resolve Amasiri/Okporojo Edda Land Crisis, Calls for More Unity.


The Nzuko Edda General Assembly Abakaliki branch, the apex socio-cultural organization of Edda Clan, has commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for his decisive action to resolve the land crisis in Amasiri/Okporojo Edda.

The group, committed to upholding the cultural, social, and economic interests of Edda Clan, made the commendation during its meeting in Abakaliki as part of its resolutions. They decried the level of carnage suffered by the people of Okporojo and Oso Edda in the unfortunate crisis and noted the effort of government and its security agencies who bear an urgent responsibility to bring the carnage to an end.

The organization in a statement signed by Chief David Nkama, Chairman; Chief Stanley Ngwu, Secretary; and Hon David Uka Ag, Publicity Secretary. described the interventions of Governor Nwifuru in addressing the crisis, as "commendable" called for the cooperation of all parties with the State Government to resolve the crisis.

The statement read, "We appreciate Governor Nwifuru's efforts in resolving the crisis. We also laud his Excellency for his human and capital development in the state."

The Nzuko Edda expressed hope that the Governor's commitment to resolving the land crisis will lead to lasting peace and development in the area. - All village/autonomous communities' meetings held on the same day of the month be adjusted to a more convenient day to enable them to attend the General Assembly meetings.

Ebonyi Medical Women Association Gets New Leader, Dr. Uche-Nwidagu Installed







The Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Ebonyi State chapter, officially installed Dr. Nkiruka Bridget Uche-Nwidagu as its 12th president on Friday during a colourful ceremony at the Women Development Centre, Abakaliki.


The event drew medical professionals, government representatives, and development partners across the state, including the First Lady, Chief Mrs. Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Ogbonna Nwifuru, who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Barr. Felicia Nwankpuma."

In her valedictory speech, the outgoing president, Dr. Lilian Nwobashi, expressed deep gratitude to members of the association for what she described as a collective achievement."

She highlighted major milestones recorded under her leadership, including statewide schistosomiasis campaigns executed in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organisation, as well as extensive radio and television sensitization efforts."

- "According to her, the association distributed “more than 3,000 personal hygiene packs to schoolgirls and over 400 dignity kits to survivors of gender-based violence."

MWAN Ebonyi also carried out multiple screening programmes for residents, covering cervical and prostate cancer, hepatitis B and C, hypertension, obesity, and breast examinations, including self-breast examination training.”

Dr. Nwobashi added that the chapter produced over 82 radio programmes and 28 television broadcasts aimed at improving public health awareness.

She further disclosed that MWAN Ebonyi successfully hosted the association’s national secretariat in the state for the first time — a development she described as historic."

She expressed appreciation to her executive team for their loyalty, dedication, and support throughout the biennium, noting that every milestone achieved was “a collective victory.

In her acceptance remarks, the new president, Dr. Uche-Nwidagu, described her emergence as both an honour and a divine assignment.

Announcing the theme for the event, she disclosed: “Empowering Community Health: Transforming Women and Children’s Well-Being Through Ethical Leadership,” and the sub-theme: “One MWAN, One Vision; Empowering Communities, Uplifting Women and Children, Advancing Ethical Leadership.

Nwafor was reacting to the recent global records in academic and leadership recently secured by an Ebonyi lady, Miss Enoshi Salome Uwah, a student of University of Greater Manchester, England, United Kingdom.

LP Drags Ebonyi federal Lawmaker, Kama Nkemkanma to Court Over Defection




A fresh legal battle has erupted at the Federal High Court in Abuja, with the Labour Party (LP) seeking the removal of Ebonyi lawmaker, Andy Kama Nkemkanma Osi, from the House of Representatives over his alleged "illegal and unconstitutional" defection.

Osi, who represents the Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency, is accused of violating the 1999 Constitution by abandoning the Labour Party, which sponsored his election to the National Assembly in 2023.

The suit, filed by two prominent LP leaders in Ebonyi State, Eze Oko and Chief Henry Udeh, claims that Osi's defection on July 16, 2025, was without any division or crisis within the Labour Party, and therefore, he should forfeit his seat.

The plaintiffs are asking the court to determine whether the Speaker of the House of Representatives acted unlawfully by failing to declare Osi's seat vacant, and to compel Osi to refund all salaries, allowances, and benefits he has received since his defection.

The LP leaders also want the court to direct the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh election to fill the alleged vacancy, citing Section 76 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

The case is being prosecuted by a legal team led by Anderson U. Asemota, Esq., on behalf of the Labour Party chieftains.

Ebonyi: Dr. Divine Igwe Impact Foundation Launches with Educational and Healthcare Initiatives



The Dr. Divine Igwe Impact Foundation, a non-profit organization, has launched with a bang, empowering 18 students, covering housing expenses for indigent families, and enrolling over 5,000 children into the state health insurance scheme.

The foundation has also registered 1,000 pregnant women to ensure safe maternal and newborn care

The National Coordinator of the foundation, Dr Ibiam Agwu who disclosed this during its official launch at Okposhi-Umuoghara, Ezza North LGA said the foundation has executed several impactful initiatives aimed at educational, healthcare and security enhancement of citizens.

“Our scholarship scheme has offered N200,000 educational grant to 13 students from each ward of the LGA while supporting 18 students in basic education.

“We have scholarship opportunities, for Masters degree programme while offsetting house rents worth over N1million for vulnerable individuals in need of shelter.

“The foundation in partnership with EBSHIA, has enrolled over 5,000 children.and 1,000 pregnant women into the state health insurance scheme with related interventions in free eye surgeries among others.”


He said that the foundation would continue to foster socio-economic growth and improve access to essential services to the people.

“We aim at creating a society where every individual, regardless of background, would access quality healthcare, education, and opportunities for personal and professional growth.

The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, Dr Divine Igwe said he was motivated to float the foundation due to his desire for an educated, healthy, secured and prosperous society.

Ebonyi APC Gains Momentum as Opposition Chieftain Defects, Emegha Vows to Unite Key Leaders







The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State has welcomed another high-profile defector from the opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP), Barr. Timothy Odah, a former Commissioner for finance to its fold.

The party's State Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha while receiving Odah at the party's new secretariat in Abakaliki reiterated his determination to unite key leaders under the APC banner.

Chief Emegha emphasized that the APC aims to create a one-party system to foster unity and accelerate state development.

"Our primary goal is to create a one-party system to foster unity and accelerate state development," Emegha stated, emphasizing collaboration over opposition.

The Chairman outlined a strategy of recruiting influential figures, including resourceful individuals and opposition leaders, to join the APC, citing ongoing efforts to bring stakeholders on board. "We are working to ensure key figures join the party, with more defections expected by December," Emegha revealed.

Addressing concerns about potential infighting, Emegha stressed that party discipline and candidate popularity will guide selection, with priority given to delivering development to all areas. "The will of the masses will determine our candidates, not just party loyalty," he added.

Barr. Odah, known as "Due Respect," a former Local Government Chairman and one-time Commissioner for Finance said that his decision to defect was influenced by the Governor's emphasis on peace, development, and youth empowerment, which he believes will positively impact the state in the coming years.

He praised APC State Chairman, Chief Emegha, for his efforts in strengthening the party and welcomed Odah's transition. He pledged to work with Emegha and other party leaders to secure victory for Governor Nwifuru and APC candidates in Onicha LGA in 2027.


"I'm here to add value, not to contest elections, but to support progress and peaceful elections," he said.

The APC plans to deliver infrastructure and people-oriented projects across the state, with Emegha concluding that unity is essential for development.

NNL: Abakaliki FC Draw Leads to Head Coach's Suspension

NRF Initiative: Ebonyi Universities Commit to Joint Research, Capacity Building







Federal and state universities in Ebonyi State have joined forces under the National Research Fund (NRF) initiative to enhance educational development and strengthen academic research and innovation.

The collaboration brings together scholars from David Umahi University of Medical Sciences (DUFUHS), Alex Ekwueme Federal University NERFU-Alike (AE-FUNAI), and Ebonyi State University (EBSU), with other participating institutions including the University of Information and Communication Technology, Oferekpe (UICTO), and the University of Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering, Ezza (EAUAE).

The summit, themed "Inter-University Collaboration, Access to National Research Fund of TETFund, and Moving Research to Policy in Nigeria," aimed to foster joint research projects, promote capacity building, and improve the quality of teaching and learning in higher institutions.

Vice Chancellor of DUFUHS, Prof. Jesse Uneke, described the partnership as a "milestone in bridging the gap between theory and practice." He emphasized that the initiative would provide researchers with access to funding, modern equipment, and technical support to conduct groundbreaking studies in areas such as agriculture, health, renewable energy, and information technology.

Prof. Akaneren Essien, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Uyo, praised the NRF for its commitment to advancing education through collaboration rather than competition.

Uburu Community Backs Expansion of David Umahi Federal University, Clears Minister of Land Grabbing Allegations






The people of Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, have thrown their weight behind the acquisition of more land for the expansion of the David Umahi Federal University of Health Science (DUFUHS) in the community.

In a communiqué signed by leaders of the host community, including HRH Lazarus Umahi, Chief Shedrack Onu, and Chief Odi Nicholas Enyi, the community stated that the expansion of the university was a collective agreement endorsed by the Uburu Traditional Rulers Council.

The community has absolved the Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, of land grabbing allegations in the expansion process and dismissed a petition against him by some individuals in the area. The leaders described the use of the community name in the petition as unacceptable and warned against further use of the Uburu name by the petitioners, who they claimed did not have the best interests of the area at heart.

According to the community, the expansion of the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHSU) is a collective initiative conceived and endorsed by the Uburu Traditional Council. The council, chaired by HRH Eze (Dr.) Lazarus Umahi Nweze, declared that Sen. Umahi is fully exonerated of all allegations regarding the land processes.

The DUFUHSU land expansion committee, led by Coordinator Dr. Umezurike Daniel and Secretary Mr. Odi Nicholas Enyi, provided a detailed rejoinder to set the record straight. The committee explained that the university's governing council had formally requested additional land for expansion, as the institution currently occupies less than 20 hectares.

The committee outlined its transparent and inclusive terms of reference, which included conducting community-wide awareness, identifying and engaging affected landowners, obtaining consent and signatures from all affected families, and facilitating compensation for every verified landowner. All these steps were duly followed, and the committee's work covered 29 identified landowners, all of whom received compensation and gave written consent.

The community vehemently condemned the actions of a few individuals who sought to exploit the name of Umuchima village to foment division and tarnish the hard-earned reputation of Sen. David Umahi. "All community groups affirmed their total support for the DUFUHSU expansion as a vital community project that has brought pride, jobs, and sustainable progress," the community stated.

Ebonyi: Group Demands Action Against Cyber Blackmail, Fake News"*




National Coordinator of People Living with Sickle Cell Disorder, Mrs Aisha Maduagwu has charged Ebonyi state governor, Francis Nwifuru to halt the alarming rate of social media attacks against stakeholders in the state by some content creators and influencers.

She said the law is necessary owing to the fact that some persons have turned their platforms as an avenue of cyber warfare against stakeholders in the state.

Aisha made the call on Friday while speaking to journalists in Abakaliki the Ebonyi state capital following the rising cases of cyber blackmail, spreading of fake news and extorting money from stakeholders by some individuals who hide under the umbrella of content creators.

She maintained that findings have proven that those carrying out the cyber attacks were being sponsored by enemies and few aggrieved individuals.

According to her," Our digital space has been hijacked by some unscrupulous content creators and podcasters who prioritize sensationalism over truth, spreading damaging falsehoods to influential figures for personal gain.

"The dangerous now is that it's gradually undermining public trust and threatening the existing peace in our beloved state Ebonyi.

"So am calling on governor, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi state to urgently intervene and halt this ugly menace of using social media as a weapon to blackmail and a means of spreading fake news and extorting money from stakeholders.

"We cannot allow our leaders to become soft targets of digital assaults and the time to act is now but failure to act swiftly will embolden these cyber criminals setting the stage for chaos.

"Social media is neither a court of law nor a law enforcement agency. Grievances must be channeled through proper institutions—the police, judiciary, or relevant regulatory bodies,"she noted.

Ebonyi Community backs Tinubu, Nwifuru, Peace Agwu for re-election





The People of Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Francis Nwifuru and the incumbent council chairman, Mrs Peace Agwu, for reelection.

The endorsements were announced during a one Man million road walk in the council area to demonstrate their call for the reelection of the leaders for what they described as endorsing them to continue with their good leadership.

Commending the organisers for the endorsement, Mrs Peace Agwu lauded Governor Nwifuru's administration for the numerous infrastructural works across the council and noted it as a pointer to the show of admiration and endorsement by the people.

"His Excellency, the governor of Ebonyi State, has done wonderfully well, especially in Ishielu local government; he has done it across the state, but in Ishielu, it's massive.

"He has done over 23 kilometres of roads in Ezza Ezillo that have brought permanent peace. He has also initiated the construction of 2 kilometres of roads in each of the traditional rulers' palaces and modern duplexes.

"He has also constructed 144 bungalows in the Amaeze community in Ishielu, just to mention a few. That is the reason why they came out en masse to support him and to move a motion to adopt him for a second tenure." She said.

She lauded President Tinubu for the ongoing construction of a dualised carriage which passes through the council, noting it as not only a development but also an avenue for economic growth in Ebonyi state and the southeast.

In his delivery, the coordinator, Alife Men for FON, Hon. Agwu Uchenna, described the movement as an endorsement of peace and progress, saying that a good tenure deserves another, and appealed to the council chairman to heed the call for service to humanity.

Also speaking ,Chief Ali O. Daniel, a stakeholder from the area and former board member of the Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation (EBBC), described President Tinubu, Governor Nwifuru and Mrs Agwu as replicas of excellence in leadership, seeing the moment as historic.

"We can never look for the best when excellent is needed. Our chairman is excellent, our governor is excellent, and our president is excellent. The reward for good governance is more tenure and continuity. We are here to enthrone peace and love, and we are appealing to the chairman to come again for another tenure." He added,
