98 Ebonyi Flood, Windstorm Victims Receive ₦500,000, 2 Bags of Rice Each from Governor Nwifuru



Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has disbursed ₦500,000 and two bags of rice to each of the 98 families affected by the windstorm and flood disasters that occurred on May 27, 2025, in Ndeze Inyimagu, Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.


Represented by Commissioner for Human Capital Development and Monitoring, Mrs. Ann Aligwe, the governor flagged off the exercise in Abakaliki.

Mrs. Aligwe emphasized the governor's commitment to the welfare of Ebonyi residents, as outlined in the Peoples Charter of Needs initiative.

"Many thought it was a political promise, but today you have seen that His Excellency is a talk-and-do governor," she stated. The gesture aims to cushion the losses suffered by the victims.

The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) conducted impact assessments and assured victims of prompt intervention.

Mrs. Aligwe urged residents in disaster-prone areas, particularly riverbanks and lowlands, to relocate in line with early warnings from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).

The government observed a minute's silence in honor of Mrs. Theresa Nwaji, who died in the Ndeze Inyimagu windstorm, and eight others recently killed by flooding in Afikpo.

The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr. Henry Nworie, reaffirmed the government's readiness to respond swiftly to emergencies.

Some beneficiaries, including Stephen Nwoji Uguru, Andaline Edeh, and James Ominyi, expressed gratitude to the state government, NEMA, and EBSMA for the intervention. They appealed for more long-term measures to rebuild their livelihoods.

Plateau Group Rebuts MURIC's Allegations Over Alleged Call for Military Withdrawal


A Plateau-based group, Vanguard for the Voice of Reasoning (VFTVOR), has strongly refuted allegations made by the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) against the Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang.

MURIC's Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, had falsely accused the Governor of calling for the withdrawal of soldiers from crisis areas in the state and replacing them with mobile policemen, allegedly to target Muslims.

The group in a statement signed by its chairman James Buba described the claim as "inflammatory" and "untrue," stating that Governor Mutfwang never made such a call. Instead, the Governor emphasized the need for a collaborative approach among security agencies to combat security challenges in the state.

"For the record, at no time did Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang directly call for the withdrawal of military personnel from any part of Plateau State. On the contrary, the Governor has consistently emphasized the need for a united and collaborative approach among all security agencies, the military, police, civil defense, and local vigilantes, to effectively combat the complex security challenges facing the state".

"The statement by MURIC, purportedly referencing the Governor's recent visit to Jebbu and Bindi in Tahoss District of Riyom Local Government Area, where 27 innocent citizens were brutally massacred, is a gross misrepresentation. It is disheartening that Prof. Akintola failed to acknowledge or condemn this heinous act of violence, choosing instead to weaponize falsehood in the name of religion".

"During the visit, Governor Mutfwang sympathized with the grieving community, called for calm, and urged them not to resort to reprisals. He emphasized the importance of professionalism among security personnel and acknowledged that while many are doing their best under difficult conditions, a few have fallen short. At no point did he call for the blanket removal of soldiers. His call was for accountability and improved synergy among agencies, not exclusion".

VFTVOR highlighted Governor Mutfwang's commitment to peace, inclusion, and religious harmony, citing his administration's efforts to engage with the Muslim community and provide them with equal access to opportunities and services.

The group noted that the Governor has appointed qualified Muslims to key positions, sponsored hundreds of Muslims on pilgrimage to Mecca, and invested in developmental projects in Muslim-majority communities.

"Governor Mutfwang has, since assuming office, demonstrated unwavering commitment to peace, inclusion, and religious harmony. The Muslim community in Plateau State, under the leadership of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), has continued to enjoy cordial and productive engagement with his administration. The Governor has not only respected the faith and culture of Muslim citizens but has also provided them with equal access to opportunities and services".

The group condemned MURIC's statement as "malicious," "divisive," and "unjustifiable," urging security agencies to investigate the group's activities and potential threats to national peace and cohesion.

"It is therefore malicious, divisive, and unjustifiable for MURIC to insinuate that the Governor harbors an anti-Muslim agenda. Prof. Akintola’s remarks, especially those branding Plateau women as collaborators in violence, are crude, sexist, and unbecoming of a person of his academic standing. Such sweeping generalizations are not only offensive but also dangerously dehumanizing".

"We must remind Prof. Akintola and MURIC that religious advocacy should be rooted in truth, objectivity, and a commitment to peace, not propaganda laced with bitterness and prejudice. MURIC’s statement is a regrettable attempt to undermine the peace-building efforts of the Plateau State Government and to ignite animosity where unity is desperately needed".

17,000 Residents Benefit from CCT Program in Ebonyi as Nwifuru Flags Off New Batch of Payment





The Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has flagged off another batch of the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) program, benefiting over 17,000 residents across the state.

This initiative aims to provide financial support to vulnerable households, cushioning the effects of economic hardship.

The payment flag-off ceremony which was held at the Women Development Centre, Abakaliki, saw thousands of beneficiaries receiving three payment cycles totaling N72,000 through preloaded debit cards under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Initiative.

Speaking during the flag-off, Mrs. Ann Aligwe, Commissioner for Human Capital Development and Monitoring, who represented Governor Nwifuru at the event emphasized that the CCT is a direct response to the governor’s “People’s Charter of Needs” — a blueprint that places the welfare of Ebonyians, especially the poor and vulnerable, at the core of his administration.

“We started with 5,000 and 10,000 Naira stipends in the past, but the economic situation made us realize it wasn’t enough. Today, each beneficiary is receiving N72,000 to make a real impact on their livelihood. This is more than a gesture — it's a strategy for sustainable empowerment,” Aligwe said.

According to the commissioner, 12,000 beneficiaries received payment in May, while another 5,000-plus are currently being paid, with more awaiting the next batch in the coming month.

She said, the total number of those captured on Ebonyi’s CCT register stands at over 223,000 residents, with selection having begun since the COVID-19 pandemic era through community-based enumeration.

The Commissioner clarified that beneficiaries are drawn from rural and underserved communities, carefully documented between 2020 and 2021, despite early skepticism by locals during the data-gathering stage.

Aligwe reiterated the governor’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy to the grassroots by collaborating closely with federal authorities.

“This is not just about cash. It's about dignity, economic inclusion, and the right to decent living. The governor is passionate about making sure our people are empowered to fend for their families,” she said.

Aligwe warned payment facilitators against leaving any area until all beneficiaries receive their full entitlement, reiterating the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability

She described the CCT initiative as a part of the broader Renewed Hope Social Investment Program of President Bola Tinubu’s administration aimed at providing economic relief and reducing poverty, adding that in Ebonyi, its impact is expected to stimulate micro-enterprises, reduce extreme poverty, and inject over N1.2 billion into the grassroots economy over time.

In her remarks, Anamelechi Nwalem, the CCT facilitator for Ebonyi Local Government Area, called for the sustainability of the program, citing its far-reaching implications for the local and national economy.

She highlighted how the funds would stimulate small-scale businesses, increase household income, and reduce dependency in rural communities.

Also speaking, Mrs. Nnenna Icha, State Program Manager of the CCT initiative, described the day as historic for Ebonyi, noting that the state has never witnessed such a significant inclusion in a federal social protection scheme.

“Ebonyi has always been sidelined in the past, but today, through the vision of our governor and the support of President Bola Tinubu, the state is at the forefront of national empowerment efforts. This is commendable,” Icha stated.

Beneficiaries at the event expressed heartfelt gratitude and shared stories of hope. Chukwu Chukwu from Afikpo described the initiative as life-saving, saying, "With this money, I can now expand my business. I never believed this government would remember us in the village."

Roseline Nkiru Ibe plans to start a new business, stating, "This money is a seed. I thank our governor and President Tinubu for this opportunity."

AUF Celebrates 10 Years of Unity and Development

A registered socio-cultural organization, Amasiri Unity Forum (AUF), is set to celebrate its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of promoting unity and development among the people of Amasiri in Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

Briefing newsmen in Abakaliki, on the activities lined up to mark the group's success story, the Chief Administrator of AUF, Comrade Dandy Otu, explained that AUF established in 2015 has put modalities in place to celebrate its 10 years of existence, which has been occasioned by records of unprecedented achievements.

He said that: "AUF in their bid to foster unity, oneness and encourage ‘idi n’otu’ chose and commissioned the first day of every year as AUF Day.

'AUF Day is celebrated on the first day of every year, featuring a unity walk around Amasiri, distribution of welfare packages to indigent widows, and organization of dinner at different venues – residences of AUF members'.

Also speaking during the briefing, the Chairman of the Tenth Anniversary Organising Committee, Comrade Engr. This definition aptly captures the essence and existence of the Amasiri Unity Forum (AUF)".

Uchenna clarified that the alternation of venues for AUF programs was necessitated by the prayers made by the group's founding members.

"The changes in venues for AUF programs followed a passionate prayer made by the founding members asking God not to allow AUF repeat any venue for her programs. As you can see, not only did God answer the prayer, riches, unity and development have flooded Amasiri through AUF.

"Apart from the AUF Annual Dinner Night of 1st January, AUF Whatsapp platform hosts different programs such as the AUF Weather Report that comes up on weekly basis where members report about the weather at different parts of the World; AUF Prayer and fasting that brings the Forum and the members closer to God as the members pray for peace, unity, preservation and success of Amasiri. He added that, "There is also AUF Unity Cup Football Competition and Novelty Match, which brings our people together, builds relationships, promotes social change, physical fitness, health and wellness. Through these programs, AUF has provided succour to indigent individuals in Amasiri including widows, students, the sick and the ‘oppressed. The Forum has also served as a platform for employment of Amasiri sons and daughters in different private and public establishments."

The Chief Administrator of the Group further said "AUF has brought connectivity among Umu Amasiri all over the World. This is evident in the fact that nwa Amasiri does not need much introduction whenever he calls onye Amasiri ibie no matter the person’s status in the society.

"Other notable unity activities executed by Amasiri Unity Forum since inception includes: The collaboration with AMASIRI TOWN UNION to organize the most attended and colorful Amasiri day celebration that was judged the best since inception. DUFUHS, AE-FUTHA, and DUFUTH Conduct Free Medical Outreach for Over 5,000 Patients in Ebonyi





The David Umahi Federal University Health Sciences (DUFUHS), Uburu, Ebonyi State, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki (AE-FUTHA) in the state and David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital (DUFUTH), Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area also in the state, at the weekend conducted free medical screening and treatment for over 5,000 patients with different ailments.


The outreach, which featured medical screening and treatment for breast and cervical cancer, prostate issues, diabetes, arthritis, ulcers, and more, was held at Eke Ajah market, Uburu to celebrate the 62nd birthday of Minister of Works, David Umahi.

The outreach provided medical screening and treatment for over 5,000 patients, including blood sugar checks, blood pressure checks, dental checks, eye checks, deworming, and nutritional talks.

Among those who benefited from the exercise included aged women, aged men, youths and journalists.

DUFUHS Vice Chancellor, Professor Jesse Uneke and the Chief Medical Director of AE-FUTHA, Professor Robinson Onoh said the gesture was to celebrate the Minister of Works, David Umahi the founder of DUFUHS and DUFUTH who turned 62 at the weekend.

Uneke described Umahi as a gift and blessing to Ebonyi State and Nigeria and commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing him Minister of Works to drive the Renewed Hope agenda on road infrastructure revolution.

He said Nigerians are witnessing quality road infrastructure built to stand the test of time under Umahi as the Minister.

The Vice Chancellor opined that the free medical outreach was to appreciate Umahi for his service to humanity and the country.

On his part, the Chief Medical Director of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, Professor Robinson Onoh said Umahi deserved to be celebrated because of his immense contribution to the development of state and the county in general.

"The Minister of Works has done a lot for humanity, he has done a lot for Ebonyi State, he has done a lot for Nigerians and I guess, one of the things we should do for him, is to celebrate him and that is what we have by organizing this free medical outreach to also touch lives. We have to give better health to individuals", he said.

One of the beneficiaries of the medical outreach, Akpa Njoku, an eye patient commended organizers of the medical mission and prayed God to bless them

He disclosed that the eyeglasses he was given at the medical outreach after being examined and treated, were far better than the ones he was given in the hospitals he visited in search of solutions to his eye problem.

Surge in child malnutrition in Nigeria worries Tilova for Africa boss




A non-profit, non-governmental charity organisation with headquarters in New Hampshire, USA, Tilova for Africa (TFA), has expressed deep concern over the surge in child malnutrition in Nigeria. It stated that child malnutrition in Nigeria is a big issue, resulting in stunting, wasting, and underweight among children under five.

Tilova For Africa noted that a recent report stated that one in three Nigerian children contend with the challenge of extreme child food poverty, with the consequence of easy susceptibility to malnutrition.

The group identified the dire living conditions of many families, inflation, inadequate access to healthcare and insecurity, making some farmers to shun agricultural activities, as some of the factors, behind the dangerous development. Maintaining that many families are enduring misery, TFA therefore called for increased collaboration and intervention of local and international partners to curb the surge.

A statement by the co-founder of TFA, Mr Martin Nwabueze, stated: "There is an unprecedented and, definitely unacceptable increase in severe acute malnutrition (SAM) admissions in country. A particular state records over 400 per day in admissions and the situation could worsen. It is an overwhelming situation, which should not be allowed to continue.

"It is estimated that about eight million babies are born annually in Nigeria, which is, without doubt, one of the highest birth rates in the world. Unfortunately, many of these innocent children start suffering from the very moment they are born. This is because they are born into families battling with multi-dimensional poverty. This is sad and concerted efforts should be employed to change the narrative.

"To be sure, Nigeria's future is in danger if it continues to endanger the life of its children because it is the children of today that will pilot the affairs of the country tomorrow.

"A recent report stated that 40 percent of Nigerian children under five are stunted. It added that it is a condition that permanently affects brain development and learning capacity. So, something must be done as a matter of urgency.

"Sustained herdsmen attacks, over the years, have displaced millions of residents and snatched livelihoods from families. Many of the victims are living in internally displaced persons camps and they are bearing children there and such children are bearing the brunt.

"A state commissioner for humanitarian affairs and disaster management in North Central recently disclosed that in IDPs camps and host communities are 33,000 malnourished children.

"He added that these children have been living in very horrible conditions, some with their parents, others unaccompanied, having lost both parents to the attacks. In those camps, a meal is luxury while something that looks like it comes only once in a month when the state government embarks on the monthly food distribution to IDPs or when good spirited individuals and organizations come visiting.

"This is not an exception. There are millions of Nigerian children living in such dire situations.

The wife of the Ebonyi State governor Chief Mrs. Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Nwifuru, has commissioned a housing project for widows in Obuchie Amajim Ameka Village, Ezza South Local Government Area.


The project was delivered through the Better Health for Rural Women, Children, and Internally Displaced Persons Foundation (BERWO), marking another milestone in the First Lady's efforts to support vulnerable women.


The project which is a three‑bedroom flat is constructed to provide safe, dignified accommodation for a selected widow in Ezza South. The commissioning culminated months of planning, community engagement, and collaboration between BERWO, Ebonyi state ministry of Housing and Urban Development, and development partners, reflecting a concerted drive toward social welfare and sustainable empowerment.

In her address, the First Lady emphasized the moral and civic importance of caring for widows:

“Today, we stand not just on bricks and mortar but on love, compassion and shared humanity. This home stand as an enduring testament to our commitment to those who have lost so much yet remain pillars of strength in our communities.”

You failed the People, now hiding behind zoning, Moghalu fires back at Soludo



The George Moghalu Campaign Organization has taken note of Governor Charles Soludo’s recent comments on zoning in relation to the 2025 governorship election. While every citizen has the right to participate in the democratic process, we owe it to ourselves and to Ndi Anambra to speak the truth plainly.

Let us recall that Governor Soludo contested the governorship in 2003 under the PDP, and again in 2013 under APGA. On neither occasion did he show regard for any zoning agreement. Zoning was never part of his political vocabulary when it did not serve his interest. But now that the tide has turned, he suddenly clings to it for political survival. Ndi Anambra are watching and they are wiser now.

However, we must remind our people that zoning is to Anambra South, not to Soludo. It is a call for equity and balance, not a personal entitlement. Anambra South still has four more years to provide leadership for the state, and it must be based on competence, capacity, and performance, not recycled promises and political self-preservation.

We must also remember that the Constitution provides every elected governor with a four-year mandate. A second term is not an entitlement. It must be earned. It must be justified with visible achievements, not empty slogans.

Has Governor Soludo delivered on the bold promises he made? Where is the African Dubai-Taiwan he proudly proclaimed? What tangible improvements can the people see? Are there new schools, hospitals, roads, or infrastructure projects to point to? Is Anambra more secure today than it was yesterday?

Across the state, our traders are burdened by suffocating and excessive taxation. Many face daily harassment from government agents, especially the infamous ndi Aka Ọdọ, whose intimidation tactics have created an atmosphere of fear and frustration. The realities on the streets sharply contradict the narratives from government press briefings.

In contrast, Dr. George Moghalu is not coming to sell dreams. He offers Ndi Anambra a tested and trusted alternative. A proud son of Nnewi North in Anambra South, he believes in equity and has already pledged to serve a single term. To him, governance is a relay. If a serious leader cannot deliver in four years, they cannot deliver in eight.

It is time for Ndi Anambra to stand firm and insist that eight years is not an entitlement. It is not automatic. It is a privilege reserved only for governors who deliver on their promises, who perform, and who earn the people’s trust through results, not propaganda. Governance is not about occupying office. It is about impact. If you have not delivered in four years, you do not deserve four more.

Dr. Moghalu comes prepared with a master plan that will fundamentally transform governance in Anambra. His vision is clear, practical, and people-driven, not built on soundbites or borrowed metaphors. He offers leadership that delivers, not leadership that distracts.

The Labour Party has the answer to the challenges facing Anambra. Our national leader, His Excellency Peter Obi, and His Excellency Alex Otti, the performing governor of Abia State, have already set the pace. Their results speak for themselves. Dr. George Moghalu is ready to replicate that standard of responsible, people-first governance here in Anambra.

Ndi Anambra are awake. They have grown tired of sweet talk and deception. They will not be swayed by high-sounding grammar, abstract theories, or recycled slogans like “nke a bụ nke anyị.”

This election is not about oratory. It is about results. Ndi Anambra will judge by performance, by integrity, and by vision. And come 2025, they will choose progress, not excuses.

Nwabueze expresses concern over rising mental health issues in Nigeria



The Nigerian government has been urged to integrate mental health into broader public health strategies as well as promote mental well-being as a fundamental aspect of overall health.

This call was made Mr Martin Nwabueze, co-founder of Tilova for Africa, a non-profit, non-governmental charity organization with headquarters in New Hampshire, USA.

He noted that although Nigeria had made efforts to address "the mental health crisis through legislation like the Mental Health Act of 2021, which aims to improve services and protect the rights of people with mental health conditions," there's still much to be done.
Nwabueze, a pharmacist, said:

"It is crucial to improve the lives of Nigerians, particularly their mental well-being. A large portion of the Nigerian population is affected by various mental health conditions. In fact, it is estimated that about one in four Nigerians experience one mental health challenge or another.

"Unfortunately, access to adequate care and treatment is a huge problem. There is shortage of mental health experts in the country. Hospitals are lacking in equipment and many of our health professionals have left Nigeria because of poor renumeration and poor work environment.

"There is also the issue of stigma. Because of ignorance, if people hear that someone is having a mental health issue, he or she will be regarded as being mad. So because of the serious stigma associated with mental in Nigeria, some individuals will not seek help or disclose their condition. So, naturally their problem will be worsened. That is why someone will park his car and jump into the Lagoon.

"I think it is a reflection of the general situation of the country. There is so much poverty or as someone said, poverty has been weaponized in the country. People worry about virtually everything in the people. What people take for granted in other crimes are issues of concern here.

"In Nigeria, many families are worrying about ordinary food. To put food on the table is a big issue in many households. The country is blessed with arable land but food sovereignty is lacking because of insecurity.

"Farmers are afraid of going to their farms because no one knows what will happen there. Many farmers have been killed or abducted in some parts of the country. Women and girls are raped in their farms. "There is the pathetic story of a man whose wife and daughter were raped by bandits in his presence in his farm. A couple, Mr Onya Oko and Mrs Ngozi Onya, were killed in their farm at Amata in Oziza Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State not long ago.

"There is also the issue of farmers - herdsmen clashes and land grabbers invasion of communities, maiming and killing residents almost unchallenged. These are enough to cause mental health problems. A six-year old boy whose parents were killed in his presence in his community in Plateau State saw policemen and became hysterical and started crying uncontrollably. Obviously, he had sustained physical and psychological damage.

"Indeed, many Nigerians are living with mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety and substance abuse. Some people embark on substance abuse out of frustration, helplessness and hopelessness.
"Living in Nigeria is tough. Inflation is increasing all the time. Electricity supply is irregular; many communities are not even connected to the national grid. Many schools are in deplorable condition; in some schools, pupils sit on bare floor or study under trees. The roads are bad. Traveling is a nightmare because you could be kidnapped anytime. Many people have turned betting to job. All these are foundation of mental health challenge.

"So, government should act fast: it should make conscious effort to reduce poverty and insecurity and integrate mental health into broader public health strategies as well as promote mental well-being as a fundamental aspect of overall health."

Nwabueze said that it is because of these issues that Tilova for Africa is empowering vulnerable communities even as it seeks collaborations.

2027 - Obi Remains Most Qualified to Lead Nigeria... Group






Members of the Obidient Movement in Ebonyi State have said that Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, remains one of the most qualified and committed individuals to address Nigeria's challenges heading into 2027.

The declaration was made over the weekend at an event in Abakaliki marking Obi's 64th birthday.

The event concluded a week-long series of activities including:donations to vulnerable groups, visits to motherless babies' homes, a visit to a leprosy centre and distribution of free petrol to 100 motorcyclists.

Dr. Ezeh Emmanuel Ezeh, a member of the National Advisory Committee of the Obidient Movement, described Obi as "an institution of hope". Ezeh stated that the former Anambra governor embodies the character, competence, capacity, and compassion Nigeria needs at the moment.

He called on the Nigerian masses to embrace the new hope that Mr. Obi represents.

"It is also instructive to know that what is happening here in Ebonyi State is happening all over the country and all over the world, wherever you see Nigerians, because we believe that Peter Obi, who is an institution of hope, represents the hope of a common man.

"Despite how bad things are, we believe that Peter Obi's presidency is what we need at this time. This country requires someone like Peter Obi to deliver us from the darkness, corruption, incompetence, and mismanagement of Nigeria's economy.

"We are celebrating him because he embodies the vision of character, competence, capacity, and compassion, and that is what Nigeria needs now." Eze said.

Members of the movement who spoke with our correspondent included R.t Hon. Barr. Emmanuel Nwobo, who was the former assistant director of Peter Obi's campaign organisation at the 2023 general election; Mr. Igiri Innocent, a chieftain of the Labour Party; and Hon Splendour Eze All maintained that Obi's presidency in 2027 is feasible against all odds.

"There's no coalition without the Obedients; minus the Obedients from the coalition, then it's as empty as an empty drum. Peter Obi is the leader of the coalition, and we don't have any idea of hijacking anything. Our goal is to be at the centre of it, and if Peter Obi is not accommodated, then that is the end of the coalition." Igiri added.

Ebonyi: Edda Council Chairman Warns Against Diversion of Agric farm inputs





The Chairman of Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Hon. Prince Chima Ekumankama, has warned against the diversion of farm inputs distributed to local farmers in the council area.

This warning was issued during the flag-off ceremony of the distribution of fertilizers, rice seedlings, pesticides, and other essential farming inputs by the Ebonyi State Government.

The distribution is part of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru's initiative to enhance agricultural productivity in the State.


The Chairman, who stressed that the inputs are meant for verified farmers, said it included community stakeholders and traditional leaders directly involved in farming activities.

He expressed his administration’s renewed push to boost food security and agricultural productivity in line with governor Nwifuru's revolutionary Agricultural policy in the State.


Chima, applauded Governor Francis Nwifuru for prioritising agriculture as well as his commitments to strict monitoring and ensuring that farm inputs are used effectively by the appropriate beneficiaries.

He equally pointed to the fact that Edda LGA is one of the leading agricultural hubs in Ebonyi State, while announcing the formation of the local task force aimed to monitor the distribution and prevent the misuse or resale of the inputs.


"Let me commend our Governor Chief Francis Nwifuru, a farmer-friendly governor, for empowering local farmers with fertilizer, rice, and agrochemicals".

In her remarks during the flag off ceremony, Princess Iyioku emphasized the importance of using the inputs effectively to maximize yields


The Commissioner who called for the establishment of Local government areas and Development Center farms, said government will unveil a reward scheme to honour high-performing councils and development centres at the upcoming state agricultural show during harvest season.

“We are not only encouraging farming—we are institutionalising agricultural excellence. This administration will continue to back initiatives that ensure food security and long-term economic growth,” she said.

The event featured public lectures on how to use farm inputs to yield bountiful harvest across the LGA.

Abakaliki FC Supporters Club Chair Denies Embezzlement Claims





The Chairman of the Abakaliki Football Club Supporters Club, Prince Maurice Mbam has denied allegations of embezzling funds meant for supporters after the President's Federation Cup competition at Mobolaji Johnson Stadium in Lagos State.

Mbam in an interview with Journalists in Abakaliki denied tampering with the N4 million naira given to the club by the State governor, Chief Francis Nwifuru.

He stated that one of the ways he could support the administration of Governor Francis Nwifuru was his contribution in ensuring the rapid development and growth of football in Ebonyi State.

Mbam disclosed that on his return from Lagos after the President’s Federation Cup competition, the Ministry of Youth and Sports out of the N4m given by the state governor, paid N1.5 million into his account for the Supporters Club of Abakaliki Football Club.

Mbam described the embezzlement allegations as "baseless, malicious, and calculated attempts to tarnish his reputation." He expressed surprise that some individuals would resort to spreading false information about him on social media.

He said, “I sent my account number to the accountant of Ministry of Youth and Sports and they wired 1.5 million. That is our own part of the money. So, the money came through Ministry of Youth and Sports. You understand?

“So, when they wired 1.5 million to me, I said, okay. I quickly called my publicity secretary, which is Spanish. I said, Spanish, put up a meeting for the supporters that went to Lagos so that I can address them and talk to them. And again, thank them that I have not spoken to them since we came back. I was waiting for this money to come.

“So, when they put the meeting here, I said, no, put it in stadium. There is no enough seats to contain the noise and so on. So, we went to stadium. I now explained this to them. Before I explained, I told them that I, of course, I thanked them and thanked God for how he took us to Lagos and came back. I now told them that in every system, there are people that run it.

“I can’t get up and start running the ministry affair. I told them that as Supporters Club, we are an arm in the football team, not in the ministry. I told them that where we source our power from is from the club, that we are Supporters Club of Abakaliki FC, not of ministry.

“And this is the decision of the club, that they have agreed that we are not the only people that supported them and that they have to carry other people along. And it will be unfair for us to also claim the whole money that we need to also share with our brothers that travel with us. This season has ended and they know that we started this on our own.

“Even up to now, people are still calling me. I’m still paying people, even those that couldn’t go, but they had one reason or the other not to go. I’m still paying them, 20,000. Because we are more than 100 Ebonyians and supporters who are registered. And they register with 5,000. So, they deserve also part of whatever comes to the club.

“So, I didn’t know this boy also is a member. I didn’t know him as a member. But I was told that he was there in my explanation. And then, when we finished the meeting, everybody was happy. I left. Lo and behold, that night, I received a call from the top, telling me I should go to social media and look at what is going on in social media. You understand? I went to social media and saw it.

“And I explained to number one, look at what happened. You know, I was not there when he gave four million. I wasn’t there when they gave it. This is the one I was given. And I’ve shared it to them. I told the supporters, calculate what I told you is my own expenses.

However, the chairman didn't stop at denying the allegations. He launched a scathing attack on political appointees in the state, accusing them of greed, corruption, and prioritizing personal enrichment over public service. "These appointees are more interested in lining their pockets than serving the people," he alleged.

He said, “I use to ask myself, why is it that it is easier for a government appointee to finish his house and furnish his house during the time he’s in government and then he will not succeed in anything in his ministry. I don’t know if you will understand. Why is it that personal activity of a political appointee is settled even before the position of the government requirement.

“That is the problem of the country. You are given an appointment, you buy a land. You are given an appointment, you start building a house. You build that your house and finish it and build it to test. But there is a job given through your ministry and that job will not be completed. But you complete your house within one year.

Mbam however commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for fulfilling his promise of embarking on legacy projects. He praised the governor's efforts in reviving abandoned projects and expressed optimism that the projects would bring glory to the governor's administration.

“The governor made a statement that he wants a legacy project in his name. And we owe him that. So, we are sitting back. We may not see what Vanco is turning into until they finish Vanco. And that Vanco job is not a small project. It’s like this uncompleted building that he has attacked now.

“And for the first time, as I started politics, I see a governor going back to projects that were abandoned to attack it after so many years. So, if these projects are finished now, who takes the glory? Is the governor that started it?

“So, it depends on how people rate people. If you put the roads that have been given together, if you add all of them together, how many kilometers, you find out that it is more than the one that the former governor have done”, he said.

Ebonyi ADC Backs Nwafor's Leadership, Targets APC in 2027





The State Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ebonyi State, Mrs. Jennifer Adibe Nwafor, has declared that the party is poised to wrestle power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a one-day expanded meeting in Abakaliki, Nwafor described the ADC as the "new bride" of Nigerian politics, attracting defectors from major parties.

She emphasized that the party is on a "serious rescue mission" and is determined to reposition Nigeria's democratic governance from top to bottom. Nwafor declared.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday, the Commissioner for sports, prince Idike described the allegations as baseless and ill motivated. He clarified that all funds disbursed by the ministry followed due process, with transparent documentation and approval by the club management.

"The Ministry remains committed to accountability and the growth of youth and sports development in Ebonyi State," the Commissioner said, urging the public to disregard what he termed as "false and malicious reports."

"For clarity, we have over forty players, which some did not registered in the just concluded FA cup, but among the thirty four players that registered, were all paid their One-Million naira as captured by the Governor.

"Meanwhile, we gave one hundred thousand naira each to the remaining players who did not registered for their transportation as re embark on break which all these was agreed in our meeting with the team.

He explained further that the money given to the remaining players are money sourced from what was signed to the officials who are twenty five in number stating that they agreed to accommodate those not captured among the sixteen official approved by the governor.

"As for the supporters, one hundred supporters from Ebonyi who went to Lagos state all got thirty thousand naira each from three million given to them, while others who are residents of Lagos state were given one million naira.

Contacting, the captain of Abakaliki FC, Cyrin Timothy confirmed that all players who registered to participate in the just concluded FA Cup competition have all received their entitled payments.

Speaking to our correspondent on telephone in the wave of the speculation of financial misappropriation, the captain expressed satisfaction with the club management for fulfilling their financial commitments to the team.

"I can confidently say that all the players that registered for the FA Cup have gotten their money," the captain said.

Ebonyi Commissioner Urges Media to Highlight Governor Nwifuru's Achievements




The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Human Capital Development and Monitoring, Mrs. Ann Aligwe, has called on media practitioners in the state to spotlight the achievements of Governor Nwifuru's administration.

The Commissioner, who made the call when she received members of the Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru Empowerment Programme (FONEP) media team in her office in Abakaliki, emphasized the need to promote the administration's accomplishments, which have had a significant impact across all sectors.

While reiterating her commitment to open-door policy and media collaboration, the Commissioner cautioned new media operators against misrepresenting the state's image on social media, warning that it could lead to negative perceptions and mockery of the people.

"If you have been in other states, you will discover that it's only here that we take our family issue to social media, a little misunderstanding between family or people who ordinarily you can approach and correct, the next place you hear about it is on social media and that's demarketing ourselves and the state which doesn't do us any good.

The Commissioner explained that the administration of governor Francis Nwifuru has done several empowerment programmes through her ministry including the training of youths in the modern livestock and crop farming and disbursement of fund as start up, stating that the governor is poised on elevating the people from their plights.

Reaffirming the state government's commitment to fostering youth empowerment, the Commissioner revealed that the governor has been allocating N500 million monthly to empower business enterprises, aiming to boost the fortunes of small and medium-scale business owners.

According to her, governor Nwifuru has proven that the ongoing administration is a welfarist government which are in line with his People's charter of needs agenda

Mrs Aligwe, also thanked the state governor for the various Community and Social development projects scattered in all the 13-LGAs in the state which would be commissioned soon, saying that human capital development which transverses all sectors including health and others have received enormous support.

On his part, the permanent Secretary of the ministry, Comrade Henry Nworie commended the team for their support and promotion of the activities of the ministry and the ongoing administration in the state.

Comrade Nworie who expressed worry over growth of fake news due to the emergence of new media employed media practitioners to remain assertive and a true mirror of the society, thereby being objective and attentive to balance in their reportage.

He equally described press as opinion and character moulders and urged the group to intensify efforts in ensuring that the voiceless in the society are given sense of belonging through the media.

Also speaking , the General Manager EB-CSDA, Mr James Iro enjoined the team to continue the promotion of the ongoing administration in the State especially the CSDA projects across the State.

Nwifuru Flags Off Free Fertilizer Distribution, Warns Against Diversion of commodity



Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has flagged off the free distribution of fertilizer to farmers in the state.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held at Iboko in Izzi Local Government Area and Ugbodo in Ebonyi Local Government Area, Governor Nwifuru said the gesture aims to support farmers with free fertilizer and other necessary farm inputs to produce food for both subsistence and commercial purposes.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Princess Nkechinyere Iyioku representing the governor, praised farmers for their resilience and urged civil servants to adopt farming as a "second address."

She warned against diverting the commodity, vowing that those caught would face the full wrath of the law.

"This is the first time these inputs are given completely free. The governor wants every local government to have its own farm. We're building an agricultural economy that doesn't rely on handouts," she said.

The commissioner called for the establishment of functional farms in all 13 local government areas and 64 development centers across the state to promote sustainable food security.


The Executive Chairman of Izzi Local Government Area, Barrister Stephen Emenike Nwankpa, commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for his agricultural-friendly policy.

He emphasized that the inputs were meant strictly for genuine farmers and not for profiteers or political actors.

"We know the real farmers in our villages. This is not the time to collect and sell. You must plant now. The fertilizers must be used now — not next season,” he said.

He added that local stakeholders generated allocation spreadsheets to ensure transparency, and that security personnel had been deployed to curb diversion and sabotage.

Meanwhile, during the flag off at Ugbodo, Prince Chinedu Uburu, Chairman of Ebonyi Local Government Area, hailed the initiative as a turning point in Governor Nwifuru’s strategy to position Ebonyi as a commercial-scale agricultural hub in Nigeria.

Also speaking, Chief Stephen Uchenna Igwe, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, described Governor Nwifuru as “a true farmer”, assuring citizens of a productive farming season.

The free distribution included 450 bags of inorganic fertilizer, 60 bags of organic fertilizer, 300 bags of 25kg certified Faro 44 rice seedlings, and 200 cartons of herbicides in Izzi Council Area.

The event featured technical training sessions by agricultural experts on cassava cultivation, Faro 44 rice farming, and value-added processing for nutrition.

Another opposition Ebonyi Federal Lawmaker to join APC soon says Emegha





The State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Ebonyi State Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha has revealed that another House of Representatives member from opposition party in the state would soon join the ruling party.


The party had received the member representing Ezza North/Ishieleu federal constituency, Hon. Joseph Nwobashi from All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA) with the member representing Afikpo/Edda federal constituency, Hon. Iduma Igariwey and his Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo federal constituency counter part, Hon. Nkemkanma Kama remaining in People’s Democratic Party(PDP) and Labour Party(LP).

Also, three House of Assembly members in the state elected on the platform of APGA, LP and PDP had defected to the APC.

Chief Okoro-Emegha said he was in talk with one of the House of Representatives members which will lead to his defection to the APC in few weeks time.

Emegha who refused to mention a particular federal lawmaker that will soon join the party, opined that his discussed with the House of Representatives member, has gone far which will manifest in his defection to the APC.

The Chairman stated this in Abakaliki, the state capital while reacting to coalition of opposition parties against APC at the national level which he said has no effect on the party at the both state and national levels.

“So far coalition of political parties is concerned, nobody should panic. APC is on course and Mr. President is trying to fix the things that have taken decades to fix and I believe very strongly that Mr. President in partnership with Governors of states are working very hard to ensure that Nigeria competes favorably with other countries of the world.

“By few weeks now, you will see another National Assembly members defecting to join me in APC and that is how prepared we are, its just simple. You know that they were up to four and one house of Assembly is now remaining in opposition and he is working very close with us but something is just holding him down.

“The member representing Ezza North/Ishielu federal constituency was in opposition(APGA) and he joined us in APC few weeks ago and I am still talking with the remaining two National Assembly members in opposition; PDP and LP.

2027: Pro-Tinubu Group, SERHA begins Grassroots Mobilization in Ebonyi

The South East Renewed Hope Agenda (SERHA), a Pro-Tinubu political movement, has officially inaugurated and empowered its Ebonyi State chapter, promising to drive President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope vision to the grassroots.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by hundreds of supporters and featured a large-scale empowerment programme targeting grassroots beneficiaries across the state.

Speaking during the inauguration the National Coordinator of SERHA, Amb. Belusochukwu Enwere, commended ward and local government coordinators for their commitment to mobilizing support for the President's agenda.

He described the initiative as a platform to showcase the achievements of President Tinubu’s administration and galvanize widespread grassroots support in the South East.

For John Bunyan, "you have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you." Similarly, Mahatma Gandhi noted: "The simplest acts of kindness are by far more powerful than a thousand heads bowing in prayer."

These expressions certainly ring true for Mr. Martin Nwabueze and his wife, Dr. Chisom Nwabueze.

Indeed, the couple is on the same page with John Wesley, who advocated: "Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can."

Over the years, they have been involved in an organization performing life-changing work in Africa, starting in Nigeria, on issues like poverty, education and HIV/AIDS, among others.

Martin and Chisom, who are both pharmacists, with many years of practice experience in the United States, are the founders of Tilova for Africa, a non-profit, non-governmental charity organization. It has its headquarters in New Hampshire, USA.

Martin and Chisom have a wide range of experience of years of charitable work both in USA and abroad as donors to various charitable endeavours and as volunteers helping in one way or another to bring positive change in different communities.

As African migrants, the couple feels blessed for the opportunity the United States has given to them but never forgets their root and the suffering and tribulations of those in Africa that are not as lucky. Their desire to lend a helping hand to the less privileged in Africa and the unfortunate killing of a dear friend in South Africa for his sex preferences were the driving forces that ultimately led to the birth of this charity organization.

Martin disclosed that as founders, the couple has worked over the years to assemble a team of more than 500 volunteers of different nationalities spread across Africa and the United States comprising of human rights activists, doctors, country experts, lawyers, journalists, donors and others who work to protect and assist the neediest in Africa such as the vulnerable minorities, the hunger stricken, the sick and homeless as well as children in need.

Martin said: "At Tilova for Africa, we direct our advocacy towards governments, religious groups and businesses in Africa, pushing them to change or enforce their laws, policies and practices to protect the fundamental human rights of marginalized minorities and the downtrodden.

"We also gather a coalition of kindhearted willing donors that donate to guarantee that our objectives with regards to poverty alleviation, educational empowerment, health care services and other advocacies are met. David Umahi Teaching Hospital CMD
reiterates commitment to quality healthcare Services



The Chief Medical Director of David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital (DUFUTH), Uburu, Ebonyi State, Prof. Maryrose Uzoma Agwu, has said that the hospital will continue to provide quality health care delivery and manpower to promote the health of the people of the state in particular and Nigerians at large.

The CMD who stated this while speaking with Journalists in her office in Uburu to commemorate three years anniversary of the institution said that the hospital management is committed to quality healthcare services and that there is sufficient equipment to cater for diverse patients.

She said the hospital has performed 412 surgeries, 15,148 outpatient visits, and 264 total deliveries between January 2023 and April 2025.


The CMD highlighted the hospital's specialized services, including neuro-surgery, oncology, endoscopy, and colonoscopy, radiologic investigations, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatric surgery, maxillofacial surgery, haematology, community health, restorative dentistry, maternal health, psychiatry, orthopaedic surgery, among others.

She said the institution has also commenced and performed her first inaugural Intrauterine Insemination procedure, on Thursday, September 26, 2024 which signalled the hospital's readiness towards providing cutting-edge Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) services, going forward.

"Another great leap forward was the addition of plastic surgery and reconstruction to handle cases of wounds and reconstruction of body parts, to its widening clinical services.

"The hospital has also introduced Upper GI Endoscopy through the Internal Medicine Department which signaled the successful commencement of Endocrinology clinic, with experienced Consultant Endocrinologists on board to attend to a wide range of common endocrine disorders.

Nigerian Guild of Editors admits veteran journalist, Oko into its Fellowship




A veteran journalist, Senior Legislative Aide to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chooks Oko, has been admitted into the Fellowship of the Nigerian Guild of Editors.

The Fellowship is the apex honor bestowed upon distinguished members of the Guild who have made significant contributions to journalism and the media landscape in Nigeria.

Oko was admitted Saturday during the 25th biennial national convention of the Guild held in Enugu, Enugu state, Nigeria.

It was performed by the Enugu State Governor, Peter Mba, on behalf of the Guild.

According to an earlier letter to Oko, dated June 16 and signed by the general secretary of the Guild, Iyobosa Uwugiare, Oko was nominated by the Fellowship sub-committee of the Guild and approved by the Standing Committee in recognition of his contributions in the media industry.

It stated that the admission was in compliance with article 12 of NGE constitution.

Receiving the award, Oko, also the Head of media, House of Representatives Committee on Environment, pledged to continue to advance in those attributes for which the Guild has qualified him for the honour.

In a congratulatory mesaage the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ebonyi State Council, Comrade Samson Nwafor described Oko's admission into the Fellowship as a welcome development, emphasising that Oko has paid his dues creditably both in journalism particularly, the media industry and public service in general.

Nwafor said: "I believe that those who deserve honour should be honoured, and I make proud to say that he merited it.

"This honour is actually going to add strength to the practice of journalism in the State, an encouragement to the younger ones in the profession as well as upcoming veterans to know that whatever effort they put in the profession will certainly be recognised in the future.

"It is a welcome development and we congratulate him as a council."

Also speaking, the pioneer state chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ebonyi state council, Chief Abia Onyike, described it as well deserved, pointing out that Oko has come a long way in his contributions to the Guild in particular and the media profession in general.

Onyike, a former Commissioner for Information in Ebonyi State, also described the 2025 NGE biennial convention as both thrilling and entertaining, adding that its success includes the peaceful election of new leadership to pilot the affairs of the Guild for the next two years.

Others who spoke, including the immediate past NUJ Chairman in the State, now Director-General, Ebonyi State Broadcasting Corporation, Chief Anthony Nwizi, said Oko's admission was an indication that Ebonyi State has gotten root in the Guild.

He noted that Oko has held positions in the media industry as well as made positive impacts which warranted the honour, stressing that NGE Fellowship are meant for people with visible contributions in the media space.

"The Fellowship is not just for all comers, but for those who have attained a certain height in the Guild as well as practiced Journalism creditably for about 35 years among other criteria" he stated.

Nwizi encouraged more Ebonyi people to join the Guild and aspire to make marks that would bring honours not just for themselves but Ebonyi state in general, adding: "I am aspiring to be a member, and I hope to be admitted soon. "

Ancestral Shrine Under Threat: Ebonyi Community Accuses Chinese Company of Illegal underground mining



A major crisis is looming in the Ndufu-Alike axis of Ikwo Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, as indigenes of Enyim Agalegu Edukwu Opeke community have raised the alarm over alleged illegal underground mining activities being carried out by a Chinese firm in connivance with some local collaborators.

They made the allegation in a strongly worded petition addressed to the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.

The community youths in the petition accused four individual of colluding with the foreign company to conduct unauthorized underground mining on sacred community land, including the revered ancestral shrine located in Ugwogo Forest.

The petition, signed by the Youth President, Mr. Ogbuinya Livinus, alleged that the mining activities are illegal and in violation of the Nigerian Minerals and Mining Act 2007, particularly Section 61.

The noted that the law mandates an environmental impact assessments report, community engagement, and federal certification before any such activity can begin.

According to them, nonoe of these requirements were met by the company before embarking in the alleged illegal mining.

“The shrine has been our ancestral deity since centuries ago,” the petition reads. “Its desecration by this Chinese firm and their local accomplices is not only a cultural affront but also a spiritual violation.

"The underground mining poses serious environmental risks including potential tunnel collapse, land subsidence, and even earthquake-like consequences.”, the said.

In a disturbing twist, the petitioners alleged that the Chinese company, in collaboration with the aforementioned individuals, has begun arresting and harassing community youths who have peacefully resisted the unauthorized mining.

The youths further revealed that no license was granted to the Chinese firm for underground mining on the disputed land.

According to them, the original leaseholder, Royal Salt Limited, which was officially granted mining rights over the land, has distanced itself from the Chinese firm's operations.

"Royal Salt has categorically denied granting any license or permission to the Chinese company to enter the land, much less mine it," the petition noted.

The situation, the petitioners claimed, is further compounded by the fact that the Chinese company has gone far beyond any designated mining boundaries.

They alleged that the firm is now digging dangerously close to the Royal Salt mining dump, a development they warned could have catastrophic consequences.

“They are digging deeper than they were ever permitted and heading towards the Royal Salt mining dump.

"This reckless activity could trigger seismic tremors, cause collapses and endanger lives. If the heavy rains persist, the village could witness a disaster of unimaginable scale,” the petition warned.

The community called on Governor Nwifuru to issue an immediate executive order halting the illegal operations and to launch a full-scale investigation into the involvement of the Chinese firm and its local collaborators.

“We are still holding our peace in respect of your peace initiative in Ebonyi State through your People's Charter of Needs. But we urge You to act now before it's too late.”, the petitioners concluded.

He urged the students to make use of the academy to develop their talents and excell in sports.

"You have really contributed to the development of our dear state, you are an icon of our state. What you have built here, you have given more life to people, you have given more hope to those that don't have direction and it shall be well with you.

"Am assuring you that by the time we get to abroad, we must have raised the hidden talents that we have in this university. Not only in this university, every Ebonyi person is going to get something here. And remember, anything we do, we remain the best.

"For the students, this is your project, it will help you to develop that skil in you, don't take it for granted", he said.

Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Michael Awoke also lauded Ugota for the basketball academy in the institution describing it as first of its kind in the university.

"This is the first in history and today marks one of my happiest day and it is just the beginning", he said.

In his speech, Ugota who is the Managing Director of Esithngton group, described the basketball academy as a symbol of vision, hope and empowerment of the youths.

"For me, I believe from experience and conviction that sports is not just a game, it is a platform for unity, for discipline, for leadership and of course for transportation.

"We also understand that sports connects bridge to destinies and we believe that through this platform here, we will be able to raise a lot of superstars.

"I want to also say that this court here is not just worthy of seeing and all that, it represents the vision to empower and invest in the hidden talents of our young people.

"This is a platform we believe, by the special grace of God, it will help to register Ebonyi State even in the global map. Ebonyi State University has produced great minds across all discipline and we know by adding this sports facility in this academic environment, it will help to open a new chapter in this school environment where our academic excellence will meet sports excellence", he said.

Group urges FG to prioritize Education at all levels



A Non-governmental Organization under the aegis of 'One Youth Global' has urged the Federal Government to intensify advocacy on educational development across states in Nigeria.

The group called on the President and State governors in Nigeria to take bold steps in tackling over twenty million children who are out of school in the country.

The President of the Organization, Mr Uchechukwu Agbo made the call while addressing newsmen shortly after the grand finale of the 'Spark Nation' debate and quiz competition, held at the Osborne hotel Abakaliki.

Agbo who decried the deteriorating state of primary and secondary education in the country, urged the federal and state governments to deepen development in the sector.

The national debate and quiz competition was organized in partnership with Benjamin Voth, who is a professor of Rhetoric at Southern Methodist University and Member of Board of Directors and Lead Debate Instructor at One Youth Global.


He noted that the selection for the participants for the debate and quiz competition involves schools across states in the country.

"There are schools from Lagos, Adamawa, Enugu, Imo, Rivers states among others.

"We are worried about the deteriorating state of federal and state owned primary and secondary schools in the country.

"Our initiative is to support and provide a platform for students to showcase their academic abilities and build confidence," he stated.

Mr Samson Amulu, Boot Camp Director of the "Spark Nation" debate and quiz competition said the initiative was aimed at fostering critical thinking, public speaking, and leadership skills among secondary school students in Ebonyi and Nigeria at large.

According to Amulu, the programme has expanded to include schools across states in the country.

"The state of our school children is worrisome. According to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), about 20 million children are out of school in Nigeria.

"So, this has been an amazing 7-day camp programme. We started on June 15 and we visited communities in the 13 Ebonyi local government areas.The grand finale is today, June 21 in Abakaliki.

"The winners for the debate and quiz competition have been given N1 million each and an opportunity to travel to California, USA," the Camp Director explained.

One of the speakers in the quiz and competition program, Chinedu Ugbah said that teachers and instructors in various schools in Nigeria should be well remunerated to spur them, increase their efforts and courage to bring in their ingenuity in the training of the pupils.

"We discovered that most of the students are no longer interested in education, some of them even have the slogan they say "Education is a scam" maybe because of what they are seeing.

"Many of them are graduates and they didn't have any job. which shows an indictment on the side of the government, maybe because of government policies, bad economy and so many other factors. Apart from this, teachers are not well remunerated and so, they don't deliver quality education and as such, the standard of education in Nigeria is going down, down" he stated.

Our correspondent reports that over two hundred and fifty students selected from various secondary schools in the country participated in the Quiz and debate competition.

The debate was won by Akin Oluwa Olajolo (SS1) from Wellspring college Lagos with 85 points and Michelle Emeka-Nwuke, CSMT, Abakaliki with 82 points and two others.

The winners were given one million naira each for scholarships to study in any university of their choice in the country.

Ebonyi Elder Nwodom Marks 58th Birthday, Prays For Sick People, Less Privileged



An Elderstateman and the immediate past State Immunization Officer (SIO) at the Ebonyi State Ministry of Health, Mr Christopher Ajiegbe Nwodom (aka Master), on Sunday, June 22, marked his 58th birthday, saying, "I'm so happy and grateful to God for adding another year to my life."

This is as he prayed for the sick, the orphans and the less privileged in society, urging them to be cheerful at all times.

Chief Nwodom stated this during a brief chat with journalists , in Abakaliki, on Sunday, adding, however, that, "The journey has not been easy."

He said, "My name is Christopher Ajiegbe Nwodom, from Ekelegu village, Ndiebor Ishieke Community, Ebonyi Local Government Area, Ebonyi State.

"I'm so happy. For adding one year to my life today, I'm so happy and I'm grateful to God. Today is my birthday. There are a lot of people who couldn't get to my age; but today I'm 58. So, I'm so grateful to God. He was the one that made it that I would be alive till date; I am happy.

"The journey has not been easy. There are people who were born on the same date/day with me. And when you look around, there are no longer here. I'm not rejoicing over them, but I'm just grateful to God for keeping me till this 58th year of my life.

"Every 22nd of June remains remarkable for me, because from Midnight people started rejoicing with me and sending goodwill messages and prayers to me. All these remind me that I'm loved by both God and friends/well-wishers. So, it's a wonderful day for me.

"We use this auspicious time to remember those in the hospital and pray for quick recovery for them. I also use this day to always remember the orphans and pray to God to continually guide, keep them and provide for them. I wish them the blessings and healing of the Lord. "

Ebonyi Commissioner splashes millions of Naria to Empower 25 Nano and Small-Scale Business Owners



As part of activities marking his second anniversary in office, the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Stanley Labechi Mbam, has through his MSL Foundation doled out over twenty-five million Naira to empower 25 trained nano and small-scale business owners in the state with startup capital and grants.

Each of the 25 selected beneficiaries received One Million Naira, while some received 2 million or 1.5 million Naira. The empowerment program is in support of the People's Charter of Needs agenda of Governor Francis Nwifuru.

Speaking during the occasion, the Commissioner who was filled with gratitude to God for keeping and directing him this far said he would continue to work in total loyalty and support to the Governor to ensure that the infrastructural needs of the people are met. He urged the beneficiaries to judiciously invest the money and grow their businesses to help others grow.

“I will continue to give thanks to God who connected me to my destiny helper—the Governor of our dear state,” he said. “His Excellency showed me unconditional love by appointing me Commissioner for Works without consulting anyone. That decision came from a place of genuine trust and passion for service.”

The Commissioner also acknowledged his wife for her steadfast support, attributing his professional success to the peace and encouragement she provides at home.

“She always gives me her blessings to go ahead, even when I say ‘the Lord laid something in my heart’. Without peace at home, I couldn’t have gone this far.”

Recounting the Ministry’s achievements, Engr. Mbam said the empowerment program is only a part of the broader infrastructure transformation taking place in Ebonyi. He listed numerous projects—spanning urban renewal and rural road maintenance—as direct outcomes of the government’s commitment to improving livelihoods.

“We have worked tirelessly day and night with our engineers, administrators, and project staff to deliver quality infrastructure across the state. We have remained committed to our mandate and the expectations of our people.”

He highlighted the Vanco Project, a flagship infrastructure initiative under the Ministry’s purview, assuring the public that it will be completed and commissioned by May 29th next year.

“It will be one of the best projects of its kind in the Southeast,” he said confidently.

In his address, the Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly and Chairman of the event, Hon. Moses Odunwa who was impressed by the great gesture commended the Commissioner for prioritising people over personal luxury

"Many would have taken this opportunity to fly to luxury hotels in Lagos or Abidjan, but you chose to empower your people instead. This is the mark of true leadership,” the Speaker noted.

In their separate goodwill messages, The APC Secretary in the state, Chief Charles Ofoke, Former Member of the National Assembly and Elder Statesman, Sen. Sylvanus Ngele, SSA to the Governor on Road Maintenance, Hon. Ben. Nwovu and the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, Rev. Emmanuel Nshii, stressed on the need for others to emulate the kind gesture of Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam, adding that Engr. Mbam has, through his MSL Foundation, demonstrated an examplery leadership to the Ministry of Works and society at large.
