Umahi orders termination of contract with Levant Construction on Benin-Sapele-Warri Road over non-performance




The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi has terminated the contract awarded to Levant Construction Ltd for the reconstruction of the Benin-Sapele-Warri Road (Section 1: Benin - Imasabor) due to non-performance.

The Minister disclosed this on Tuesday while addressing journalists in Abuja.

He said that the project, being executed under the Road Infrastructure Development and Refurbishment Investment Tax Credit Scheme, was revoked after repeated failures by the contractor to meet contractual obligations.

"Despite warnings and notices, Levant Construction Ltd failed to respond, leading to the decision to terminate the contract.

"I have directed the Permanent Secretary to get the job properly terminated and write a letter for joint measurement. Additionally, we will request repayment of the Advance Payment Guarantee (APG), and if necessary, the matter will be taken to the EFCC," he said.

Umahi made the announcement following a meeting with the Chief Executives of GELD Construction Ltd and SKECC Nigeria Ltd. He expressed satisfaction with the two firms, noting their commitment to intensify work on their respective sections of the road project.

The minister also acknowledged the support of the Delta and Edo State governments in intervening on some stretches of the road.

Addressing claims of marginalization in road infrastructure development, Umahi emphasized that the Renewed Hope administration remains dedicated to inclusive national development. He highlighted major ongoing projects in the North, including the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road, the Sokoto-Zamfara-Katsina-Kaduna Road, and the Kano Northern Bypass.

"In fact, the North has 52% of the four legacy projects of Mr. President, while the South has 48%. I urge Nigerians to see these projects as national endeavors, benefiting the entire country," he added.

He reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment to restoring public confidence in Nigeria’s road infrastructure and advancing the goals of the Renewed Hope agenda.

Passenger Influx at Ebonyi Airport as Commercial Flight from Lagos Lands Safely



The Chuba Okadigbo International Airport in Onueke, Ebonyi State, has started experiencing a high volume of travelers as a commercial flight from Lagos landed safely at the airport.


The safe arrival of the flight, coupled with the usual influx of passengers, has created a busy atmosphere at the airport.

Airport taxis were seen parked in strategic locations, waiting to convey travelers to their various destinations in the state.

Some passengers who spoke to newsmen at the Airport said there were no hitches in their takeoff and landing at the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport.

A passenger, Richard Idike, Commissioner for Youths and Sports in the state, praised the commercial flight operations and described the runway as the best in the country.

The Commissioner for Aviation and Transport Technology, Mrs. Ngozi Obichukwu, said there is no going back on the commercial flight operations at the airport. She urged travelers to book their flight tickets through the Ministry of Aviation and to always keep to time to avoid missing their scheduled flights.

Ebonyi House Committee on Agriculture visit IFAD for Food security



Ebonyi State has emerged as one of the three states that qualified for the Project Performance Evaluation due to the implementation of IFAD projects.

The State Programme Coordinator of IFAD Value chain development Programme, Dr Michael Sunday Ituma disclosed this to the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources during thier oversight function visit to IFAD VCDP Office.

Dr Ituma revealed that the other states that joined Ebonyi include Enugu and Abuja and that the IFAD team will arrive at Ebonyi on the 16th of June, 2025 for an assessment that will last for a week and thanked the Ebonyi State Governnor Rt Hon Francis Ogbonnia Nwifuru for providing and paying all the needed counterpart funds and added that Ebonyi is fully prepared for the evaluation and assured of it's success.

Dr Ituma said that the selection of Ebonyi was done at Rome, the headquarters of IFAD adding that the composition of all components as provided in the manual work and budgets has been met by Ebonyi State. And these include Infrastructure with mini bridges, culverts, roads, land developments and opening of lands for people to farm, It have also gave supports to farmers by giving them farm inputs such as fertilizers, Agro Chemicals, Improved seedlings, and also engaged in capacity building training of farmers which include the over 17,000 farmers which have gone a long way to increase the production output for rice and cassava.

He concluded that the programme has injected over #17bn into the economy of the state and then wanted the State' House of Assembly to give IFAD a robust partnership in terms of making laws that will. be favourable to farmers.

Responding, the chairman of the Committee, Hon Onyebuchi Ogbadu representing Ivo Constituency Commended the programme Coordinator for his activities at IFAD which has increased the productivity and income of operators along the value chains of rice and cassava adding that the oversight function was to know the Programmes of IFAD in this farming season.

While commending the performances of IFAD in the 8 Local Government Areas they covers in Ebonyi State', Hon Ogbadu requested the cordinator to increase it's coverage to the remaining local governments of the state.

Other members of the Committee that spoke include Hon Arinze Lucas Chukwu representing Ishielu South Constituency, Hon Chief Abiri Godwin Abiri representing Izzi West Constituency, Hon Steve Orji Igwe from Edda East, and Hon Joseph Ununu representing Abakaliki South Constituency all commended IFAD for assisting Ebonyi farmers and urged them to work hard for the success of forthcoming evaluation programme of IFAD in the state.

In a vote of thanks, the knowledge management and communication consultant of IFAD_VCDP Abuja, Mr Obinna Chukwuezie lauded the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture saying it was first of it's kind to have such supports and rapport from legislative arm in Nigeria.

In the same vain, the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture equally paid similar visit to the Ebonyi Fertilizer and Chemical Company Limited where the chairman Hon Onyebuchi Ogbadu talked on thier safety and Internal control measures to avoid leakages of thier products.

He extolled the appointments of credible people into the company which will be of great impact on the production capacity of the company describing the fertilizer blending Company as the bedrock of the revenue of the state.

The Vice Chancellor of David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, (DUFUHS) Uburu, Ebonyi State, Professor Jesse Uneke has flagged off "The Equity Africa Research Project" in Ebonyi aimed at improving equity in respiratory disease outcomes in Africa using data-driven tools.

The VC who flaged-off the project at the Institute of Child Health (ICH) in Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki (AE-FUTHA), described respiratory diseases as the cause of acute and chronic morbidity and mortality in Africa.

Uneke who is the state lead/principal investigator on improving equity in respiratory disease outcomes using data -driven tools in five African countries including, Nigeria, Kenya, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, and South Africa, said respiratory diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia in children and adults, asthma, and lung cancer were prevalent in the region.

He said Ebonyi and Lagos states were the only states selected for the project in Nigeria.

Uneke observed that there was limited health systems' capacity for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of the respiratory diseases and large inequities in the outcomes of the diseases.

"It is well established that respiratory diseases,such as chronic obstrutive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia in children and adults, asthma, and lung cancer, are all prevalent in Nigeria as in the remaining four target African countries.

"Although these respiratory diseases cause a very large burden of both acute and chronic morbidity, as well as mortality in Nigeria, there is limited health systems' capacity for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

"Furthermore, there are large inequities in the outcomes of these diseases. They are worst among the poor, who do not have access to affordable and quality healthcare", he said.

He noted that project will provide some critical equipment for the use in the detection/diagnosis of some respiratory diseases and also provide free treatment to up to 1000 patients across the six target health facilities in Ebonyi State within the four-years duration of the project.

"In this effort, we will harness a large body of work that has already been invested in the development, validation, implementation and training for the use of the tools such as Equitable Impact Sensitive Tool (EQUIST) and the Child Health and Nutrition Research Initiative (CHNRI) method.

"We will also pilot and validate the "Pathways to Survival" (PATHS) tool, a novel tool based on decision science, that identifies key bottlenecks in intervention delivery.

"The goal is to achieve demonstrable and equitable reductions in morbidity and mortality from respiratory diseases through improvements in interventions and policies derived from data-driven tools", the Vice Chancellor said.

In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of Alex-Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital (AE-FUTHA), Abakaliki, Professor Robinson Onoh said the research project focuses on improving the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and intervention strategies for respiratory diseases using evidence-based approaches.

“Today, history is made because we are involved in a global, multi-country research project that will place us on the global map,” Onoh stated.

He reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of the project, adding that AE-FUTHA is one of the few teaching hospitals in Nigeria actively participating in vaccine trial research.

Earlier in her welcome address, Professor Thecla Ezeonu, Director of the Institute of Child Health at AE-FUTHA, revealed that the project will include free testing and treatment of respiratory diseases as part of its implementation activities.

The Coordinator of Edda West Development Centre, Hon. Jecklin Onwubiku Ukpai, has flagged off the distribution of agricultural farm inputs to farmers in Edda West Development Centre.

This initiative is in line with Governor Francis Nwifuru's deliberate policy to increase agricultural production and enhance food sufficiency in the state.

The Coordinator, who flagged off the distribution at the DC Secretariat, Igbara in Edda, during a stakeholders' meeting, briefed stakeholders on the various strides, policies, and programs of Governor Francis Nwifuru's administration over the past two years and those of the centre under his leadership. He emphasised that one of the focuses of Nwifuru's administration is on agricultural revolution.

He said the People's Charter of Needs administration of Governor Francis Nwifuru has consistently prioritised agriculture, not just as a sector but as a tool to empower the people, strengthen rural livelihoods, and create sustainable jobs, urging the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the farm inputs.

Hon. Jecklin Onwubiku highlighted the various developmental strides of Governor Francis Nwifuru's two-year administration, including: - Construction of concrete-paved roads across various communities - Rehabilitation of the Ezillo and Oferekpe water schemes - Recruitment of workers into the state civil service - Award of scholarships to Ebonyi indigenes to study abroad and at home - Construction of befitting palaces for traditional rulers in the state and Construction of 2 km roads in each autonomous community. - Building of an industrial cluster in Izziamgbo - Rehabilitation of Ebonyi Airport and ongoing construction of two new universities.

He commended Governor Nwifuru for keeping his campaign promises and delivering dividends of democracy in record time through his People's Charter of Needs mantra, saying that his second tenure in 2027 is not negotiable.

They appreciated Hon. Onwubiko for deeming it necessary to organise such an event, which is one of its kind in all the Development Centres in Edda LGA.

They said the coordinator has improved farmers' productivity in the area by providing them with essential inputs like improved cassava stems and others.

Sallah :Umahi commends Tinubu's commitment to inter religious harmony, national integration in Nigeria


Minister of Works and former Governor of Ebonyi State, Senator David Umahi, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment of
fostering national integration and nter religious harmony in the country .

Speaking at the 2025 Sallah celebration organized for the Muslim community in Abakaliki, Umahi highlighted the administration’s religious and ethnic inclusiveness, which he said has reached an "excellent level."

“The relationship between faiths in Nigeria is much better now. It surprised many Christians when the President led a Nigerian delegation to the Pope’s inauguration. That was very unique and historic,” Umahi said, describing the gesture as a symbol of genuine respect for all faiths.

The Minister emphasized that the foundation of all religions is love, urging Nigerians to focus on common values rather than differences. “We all serve one God in different ways. Both Muslims and Christians preach love and the fear of God,” he stated.

Addressing concerns over the initial Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket, Umahi cited religious balance in federal appointments as a significant indicator of inclusiveness. “Christians currently hold about 62% of appointments under President Tinubu, while Muslims hold about 38%. That shows national cohesion in practice,” he explained.

Umahi pointed to growing interreligious collaboration in the Southeast, noting Christian participation in Muslim festivities as a sign of deepening unity. While the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) received late notice for the event, several Christian leaders—including Southeast CAN Chairman, Rev. Fr. Abraham Nwali—attended in solidarity.

Shifting to infrastructure, the Minister credited Tinubu with reversing years of federal neglect in the Southeast. “Before now, many Southeast states had no federal projects. But today, the federal presence is visible across the region. That is true national integration,” Umahi said.

He applauded the President for appointing Southeast natives to top positions—including himself as Minister of Works, the Chief of Naval Staff, and the Minister of Science and Technology—describing them as meaningful steps toward reintegrating the region into national governance.

“We lost political ground in the past, but this government is bringing us back. It’s not yet perfect, but we are no longer left behind. We must acknowledge that and support the President,” Umahi urged.

He called on the people of the Southeast to reject divisive narratives and focus instead on constructive engagement with the federal government. “The Southeast must count one before counting two. We need reintegration, not isolation. President Tinubu has started this process—we must not waste the opportunity,” he said.

Reaffirming his loyalty to President Tinubu, Umahi commended the President’s unwavering support for the Ministry of Works, calling it a reflection of sincere national leadership. “If you betray such a man, you betray God and Nigeria. I serve both God and the President with the fear of God,” he declared.

Muslim community leaders in Ebonyi, including Sariki Danjuma Gambo and Salis Mohammed, echoed Umahi’s sentiments, commending the peaceful coexistence on display and pledging their full support for President Tinubu’s second-term bid in the 2027 elections.

Ebonyi Works Commissioner Preaches Peace, Unity During Sallah Homage by Hausa Community




The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam, on Sunday received members of the Hausa community in the state under the aegis of the Arewa Youth Development Forum, who paid him a Sallah homage at his residence in Abakaliki.


Speaking during the visit, Engr. Mbam urged Muslim faithful to use the occasion of Eid to pray for sustained peace, unity, and progress in Ebonyi State and Nigeria at large. He emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence and mutual respect among people of different religions and ethnic backgrounds.


He described the visit as a reflection of the growing harmony and integration among communities in the state, adding that such gestures foster trust and strengthen social bonds.

"I want to thank you all for your unity and sense of purpose. Coming together like this builds hope and strengthens our confidence in one another. Your support for the government and your peace-promoting efforts in Ebonyi State have not gone unnoticed," he stated.

Engr. Mbam also called for continued support for the administration of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, noting the governor’s remarkable strides in infrastructure and development within just two years in office.

"The governor has consistently demonstrated inclusive leadership, ensuring that every community, including the Hausa community, has a place in the state's development agenda," he added. Gov Nwifuru flags off Stakeholders Sensitization campaign for downscaling 2025 flood Early warning systems

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has flaged-off Sensitization stakeholders' meeting for downscaling of 2025 flood Early warning campaign in Ebonyi organized by the National Emergency Management Agency.


The campaign, which is in conjunction with Ebonyi State Emergency Management Agency, (EB-SEMA), is aimed at mitigating the anticipated impact of the 2025 seasonal flooding in vulnerable communities across the state.

Representing the governor at the event in Abakaliki the State Commissioner for Human Capital Development and Monitoring, Chief Mrs. Ann Aligwe, stated that the program is themed: "Strengthening resilience, enhancing preparedness and response; taking disaster risk management to the grassroots to save lives, restore normalcy and build communal resilience across Nigeria."

Mrs. Aligwe who expressed government's commitments to disaster risk reduction in the State said that Governor Nwifuru had approved the program to protect the lives and properties of Ebonyi residents, especially in light of recent climate forecasts that placed the state among the high-risk areas for flooding in 2025.

"His Excellency does not want Ebonyians to be victims of flood disasters this year. This engagement is not just to sensitize but to empower communities with the knowledge and tools needed to respond proactively," she said.

In his keynote address, Director General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar represented by the Southeast Zonal Director, Mr. Walson Brandon outlined the devastating consequences of previous flood disasters, urging multi-sectoral collaboration to minimize risks. He revealed that NEMA has developed climate-related risk maps and early warning tools tailored for community-level awareness.

“The rainfall and flood forecasts from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) and Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) have predicted significant flood threats in several states including Ebonyi State. As part of our preparedness strategy, we are deploying teams to engage grassroots communities, backed by simulation exercises and mitigation initiatives," Brandon said.

According to him, the agency’s disaster mitigation strategies include capacity-building for local responders, desilting of drainages, rainwater harvesting, contingency planning, and the development of evacuation plans in high-risk areas.

Also speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of the Ebonyi State Emergency Management Agency (EB-SEMA), Mr Clement Ovuoba, described the campaign as timely. He referenced the early warnings provided in the seasonal climate prediction released by NIMET in February and the Annual Flood Outlook (AFO) by NIHSA in April.

“The government of Ebonyi State, under Governor Nwifuru’s leadership, has continually prioritized the safety of residents. Significant resources have already been deployed to support displaced persons and mitigate flood impact,” Ovuoba added.

He assured that the agency would sustain awareness campaigns and collaborate closely with local authorities and traditional institutions to ensure the early warning messages reach all 13 local government areas of the state.

Present at the event were heads of security agencies, traditional rulers, town union leaders, religion leaders and representatives of civil society organizations. They pledged to amplify the sensitization campaign within their communities to avert avoidable losses from the looming flood threat.

The grassroots sensitization is expected to commence immediately following the flag-off, with NEMA and EB-SEMA teams set to visit vulnerable communities across the state.

UNICEF trains 50 Enugu State education officers on data collection

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has trained 50 education officers in quality data for impactful policies on education in Enugu State, South East Nigeria .

This initiative aims to improve the quality of data and evidence available for formulating effective policies and attracting targeted investments in the State

The training was held at San Diego Hotel Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

Agatha Nzeribe, UNICEF Education Specialist, explained that Enugu is the only state in Southern Nigeria chosen to conduct the digital annual school census and data collection .

She said the training is on Education Management Information System (EMIS) for Education officers and managers
aimed to enhance their skills in data collection, management, and analysis, as well as to improve the quality and reliability of educational data for better planning and policy-making.

"So what we are doing here right now is training 50 education management information system (EMIS) officers from the state level and the local government level. At the end of this week, they will have acquired the necessary skills on how to use the DHS tool to collect data and upload it.

"Then we'll go to the local governments, we are going to work in clusters. And the focus is that every school, every primary school, public primary, private primary, secondary, public, private, will be captured on GPRS. And the requisite data about the school will be collected.

Nzeribe said that with appropriate data, the school dropout problem would be reduced.

"Data speaks, if you know what to do with it. So you use it to plan. We're looking at zero out of school dropout. Every child, no child left behind. That's what, that's who we are. We are for every child. Whether he is in a rural area, whether he's having any disability, whether he's from a socioeconomic background that doesn't help him, we're here to support the states achieve all, full enrollment, and completion". She said.

Mbah Ndubueze, the Commissioner for Education in Enugu State, in his submission, said that the training was essential to the state because they need to have a systematic way to report to development agencies, partners, and the federal government their educational reform gains.

He urged the participants to put in their best and garner the knowledge as their role is very crucial to data collection and analysis as related to schools, teachers, students, and other aspects of the education system in Enugu

"we need these 50 Enugu State EMIS officers to understand the best practices on data collection, data analysis, and data management to enable us to be able to properly document our process of educational reform.

"And be able to explain to our development agency partners what it is exactly that we're doing, how we're doing it, and what we are achieving. So that we can invite and earn more support to do more." The Commissioner stated.

The Ebonyi State Health Insurance Agency (EBSHIA) has enrolled over 137,000 residents of the State into the State Health Insurance Scheme between 2023 and 2024.

The Executive Secretary of the State Agency, Dr Divine Igwe, who disclosed this, at a press conference in Abakaliki, said the agency’s achievements over the past two years were enormous.

He stated that in November 2023, the state government approved free health insurance coverage for all civil servants without requiring any financial contribution from them.

A breakdown of the beneficiaries include children under five, pregnant women, the elderly, persons with disabilities, the indigent, and individuals in both the formal and informal sectors.

He explained that the media engagement was aimed at showcasing the strides made by Governor Francis Nwifuru’s administration through the health insurance agency.

Igwe who emphasized the need for collaborative efforts into the scheme called on philanthropists and stakeholders across the state to mobilize support and register at least 1,000 people per ward.

“This will go a long way in reducing mortality rates and addressing the growing threat of high blood pressure, which is claiming lives in our communities,” he said.

According to him, the health insurance scheme has helped reduce out-of-pocket expenses for medical care across all 13 Local Government Areas and the 171 electoral wards of the state.

He added that the agency, which was established by law in 2018, is designed to ensure equitable access to healthcare services for all residents without causing financial hardship.

The Executive Secretary also revealed that the state is partnering with the Global Fund to provide free healthcare access for people living with HIV/AIDS.

“Currently, 14,000 identified HIV patients are being enrolled into the state health insurance scheme,” he announced.

He added, “Before this administration took office in 2023, only 34,000 people were enrolled in the health insurance scheme. Now, over 137,000 have been enrolled in just two years.”

Ebonyi Assembly committee on Solid Mineral development task quarry companies to adhere to miming laws


The Chairman Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Sold Mineral Development and member representing Ikwo North Hon Ifeanyi Nwakpu says it is high time for all particularly the quarry operators to reciprocate the good gestures of the State Governor Rt Hon Francis Ogbonnia Nwifuru for providing them with peaceful environment and willingness to adhere to miming laws in the state.

The Committee Chairman lamented the unavailability of safety gadgets at some of the quarry sites, the refusal of some to pay the Internally Generated Revenues and most importantly the refusal of some operations to provide social responsibilities to it's host community.

Hon Ifeanyi Nwakpu maintained that if all these were done by the quarry companies, they will see the positive yields as the host communities will be ready to be at thier service.

The Chairman made these comments when the committee paid oversight function visit to some quarry sites in Ishielu Local Government Area.

At Idike Engineering Company Ezillo, Hon Ifeanyi Nwakpu frowned at the non compliance to miming laws by the workers including wearing of safety gadgets and sign posts. He directed the management of the company to do everything possible to correct the situation or be made to face the wrath of the law.

At jing Zang Quarry Ezillo, the committee chairman Hon Ifeanyi Nwakpu commended the management for thier compliance to mining laws as workers were seen on thier uniforms and the relationship between them and thier hosting community was cordial.

At Top Trust ( Sino) Quarry Company and Forever Chim Company, Hon Nwakpu told the management that the visit was not to witch-hunt them but to know where they needed help.
He expressed satisfaction on thier operational standard and urged them to improve on it.

At Shang Long Mining Investment, other members of the Committee who spoke include Hon Steve Orji Igwe representing Edda East Constituency and Hon Onu Charles representing Onicha West Constituency advised the management of the company to improve on the aspects that will take good care of their workers and customers.

Responding, the Managing Director of Jing Zang Quarry Ezillo, Mrs Lucy Gao Jinmes appreciated the committee visit and said that the company has been encouraged by the committee on issues concerning the payment's of both IGR and social responsibilities while the General Manager of Top Trust Quarry Company Mr Cletus Onoja said that the visit of the Committee was welcomed and that they always pay thier Internally Generated Revenues and hope to continue in such way.

Group offers Scholarship to over 15 indigent undergraduate Students in Ebonyi

has offered scholarship to over fifteen undergraduate students studying at EBSU, UNIZIK, AE-FUNAI and Federal Polytechnic, Unwana.

The foundation which is sponsored by the member representing Ebonyi North East Constituency in Ebonyi State House of Assembly Hon Mrs Chinyere Nwogbaga has been on for years.

Speaking during the presentation Mrs Nwogbaga said that she ventured into the programme since when she was a local government chairman and recently due to the motivating factors from the State Governor Rt Hon Francis Ogbonnia Nwifuru, she decided to step down his trends into the hinterlands by giving scholarship to brilliant and indigent students in her constituency.

Hon Mrs Nwogbaga charged the students not to let the environment tie them down but rather they should plan well for the future through education as poverty is only a barrier but with doggedness everything is possible.

She suggested vocational job for the indigent students as this will help them citing the issue of one Mr Ugo Maxwell of Ebonyi State University who is now a professional in his Arts work notwithstanding that he is phiscally Challenged .

The lawmaker while assuring the students to remain focused and dedicated to their studies, implored the parents not to be discouraged about thier fiscal inadequacies.

Also Speaking, the leader of Ebonyi Local Government legislative Council who is the Chairman of the occasion Hon Ifeanyi Ogwuonu commended the leadership ingenuity of Hon Mrs Nwogbaga adding that the beneficiaries knew how great the lawmaker had them in mind and for this they should work and study hard to reciprocate her kind gesture.

Hon Ogwuonu urged the people of Ebonyi North East Constituency to keep supporting Hon Mrs Chinyere Nwogbaga as more dividends of democracy are going to follow.

Ebonyi SWAN Applauds Abakaliki FC’s Stunning FA Cup Final Qualification


The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ebonyi State chapter, has showered praise on Abakaliki Football Club following their remarkable qualification for the final of the 2025 President Federation Cup.

Abakaliki FC sealed their place in the final after a dramatic 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Nigeria Premier Football League side, Ikorodu City FC, in a tension-soaked semifinal clash at the Bwari Township Stadium, Abuja. The match ended 0-0 in regulation time, with the underdogs from Ebonyi displaying nerves of steel to edge out the more fancied Ikorodu side.

In a statement, the Ebonyi SWAN Chairman, Comrade Ndubuisi Nwogha, described the victory as a landmark achievement that underlines the growth of football in the state. He hailed the team’s consistency, having earlier dispatched top-tier clubs such as Enyimba International, Katsina United, and Nasarawa United on their road to the final.

Nwifuru flags off distribution of Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) to over 12,000 beneficiaries in Ebonyi


Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has flagged off the distribution of the Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) Preloaded Debit Cards to over 12,000 beneficiaries in the state.

The governor who was represented by the State Commissioner for Human Capital Development and Monitoring
Mrs. Ann Anigwe, during the flag off in Abakaliki said the beneficiaries would be able to access their funds through their respective bank accounts via preloaded debit cards.

The Conditional Cash Transfer is part of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope agenda, aimed at cushioning the effects of economic hardship by delivering direct financial support to poor and vulnerable households across the country.

“We are here today because of the magnanimity of Governor Francis Nwifuru, who has attracted the Renewed Hope CCT initiative to empower Ebonyi people,” Mrs. Anigwe stated.

She disclosed that over 12,000 beneficiaries would be covered in the first phase of the programme, with additional batches expected to follow.

“Each beneficiary is expected to receive N25,000 monthly. For this flag-off, they are receiving payment for two cycles, amounting to N50,000 each,” she said.

“The debit cards have already been preloaded, and beneficiaries can now visit their banks to withdraw the funds. Normally, payment is made for three months, but this initial phase covers two.”

She lauded President Bola Tinubu for bringing democratic dividends to the grassroots through initiatives like the Renewed Hope programme.

Earlier, the State Programme Manager of the Renewed Hope CCT, Mrs. Icha Mercy, commended both the Federal and State governments for prioritizing the welfare of the citizens.

“We are here to witness the impact of what President Bola Tinubu and Governor Francis Nwifuru are doing for the people of Ebonyi by delivering this financial empowerment,” she said.

She urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds to improve their livelihoods.

Some of the beneficiaries including Mr Idam Luke and Ugbala Ngozi who were visibly happy thanked the federal government as well as Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State for the wonderful empowerment.

Ali Odefa No Longer Member of PDP, Has No Legal Standing to Convene Zonal Meeting – Southeast PDP Chairman, Egwu


The National Vice Chairman (NVC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), South East Zone, Hon. Chidiebere Goodluck Egwu, has called on the party members, and general public to completely disregard any claims or activities anchored by the expelled former South East zonal chairman of the party, Chief Ali Odefa as the later was no longer a member of the party.

Hon. Egwu made this declaration on Friday, May 16, 2025, during the commencement of his zonal familiarization tour of the five states of the South East, which commenced with Imo State.

The new zonal chairman who was accompanied by other zonal officers including the Zonal Legal Adviser, Barr. Ukkpai Ukairo, Zonal Organising Secretary Hon. Mike Ahumibe among many others were welcomed at the Imo State PDP Secretariat, Owerri by all the State Working Committee Members led by the Imo State Chairman of the party, Rt. Hon. Austin Nwachukwu.

The welcome party also included and all LGA Chairmen of the party led by their chairman of PDP Ohaji/Egbema Chief Emeka Chukwu.

In his welcome remarks, the Imo State PDP Chairman, Rt. Hon. Austin Nwachukwu thanked party executives for their swift response to the meeting despite short notice, commending their loyalty to the PDP. He condemned divisive actions within the party, particularly those allegedly orchestrated by the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, whom he accused of undermining the National Secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu by continuously enabling the expelled former zonal chairman of the party to Chief Ali Odefa who seem to be determined to destabilize the party in the zone.
In his address to party members, the new National Vice Chairman, Hon. Egwu urged the party faithful and the Nigerian public to completely ignore Ali Odefa, reiterating that Odefa’s purported authority has no legal or party standing. Substantiating his stance, Hon. Egwu presented several court judgements that affirmed the expulsion of Ali Odefa from the PDP as well as key judgments that nullified the kangaroo congress that Odefa claimed returned him as National Vice Chairman of the PDP South East.

Hon Egwu stated, “Let it be known far and wide Ali Odefa is no longer a member of this party. Any dealings with him in the name of PDP are null and void. I urge everyone to disregard his claims and respect the rule of law.”

The zonal chairman stated that issues surrounding Ali Odefa’s membership of the PDP was laid to rest on February 26, 2025 by Honourable Justice Hilary I. O. Oshomah in the judgment deliuvered on Suit no: FHC/AI/CS/227/2024 which affirmed the expulsion of Chief Ali Odefa from the PDP. In order five of the judgement, the court granted “an Order of perpetual injunction retraining the 1st Defendant (Ali Odefa) from parading himself as a member of the Peoples Democratic Partyand /or as the National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party for the South East zone of Nigeria and from continuing t perform the roles or exercise the powers accorded to the National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party for the South East zone of Nigeria.”

According to Egwu, it is also important for party members to know that “the court also restrained both the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from dealing or recognizing Ali Odefa as a member of the PDP.”

He said that in suit No: FHC/AI/CS/2/2025 the court affirmed Hon. Chidiebere Goodluck Egwu as the substantive National Chairman of the PDP, South East Zone.

On the purported zonal congress that Chief Ali Odefa claimed returned him as the National Vice Chairman, Hon Egwu told party members that in addition to an FCT High Court Order in Suit No: FCT/HC/CV/325/2025 which barred the PDP and INEC from conducting the congress. Additionally, Hon. Egwu disclosed that an Enugu High Court which was earlier deceived by Chief Odefa also struck out and earlier order errornously granted Odefa in Suit No: E/132/2025 thereby invalidating Ali Odefa’s claims to the seat of the zonal chairman of the PDP.
Assuring party members of inclusive leadership, Hon. Egwu pledged to engage all stakeholders constructively and work closely with the national leadership, especially the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, the PDP Reformation Committee Chairman, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki; and the PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu to ensure that members of the party in the zone come together to reorganize the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Also, in his remarks, Sout East Zonal Organising Secretary Chief Mike Ahumbe stated that that Chief Ali Odefa has continued to flout multiple court rulings that barred him from posing as the PDP Vice Chairman for the zone. He criticized Governor Mbah’s open endorsement of Odefa, calling it a blatant disregard for the rule of law.

Chief Ahumibe, however, expressed happiness with the emergence of Hon. Egwu as the zonal chairman stating that “the PDP is back. We are rebuilding stronger and more united than ever. The wave of revival is sweeping through the region and across Nigeria.”

In his own remarks, the Zonal Legal Adviser informed party members that due to the subsisting judgments affirming the expulsion of Ali Odefa from PDP as well as the court order stopping the illegal congress Chief Odefa had planned, the INEC after reviewing subsisting judgments boycotted the illegal congress.

He reiterated the position of the Zonal Working Committee of the party to galvanise the members in all the five South East states. He revealed that the next state for the familiarization visit is Abia State.

Traditional ruler lauds Gov Nwifuru for flagging off construction of 5-span bridge linking Ebonyi, Benue



The Traditional Ruler representing Izzi Local Government Area in Lagos, Cyprian Nwekee has lauded Governor Francis Nwifuru for flagging the construction of a 5-span Enyim bridge in Enyim community, Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

Nwekee, while speaking with journalists in his Iziogo community, Izzi Local Government Area of the state, shortly after the flaged-off said the construction of the bridge which is the boundary between the people of Enyim(Ebonyi) and Oju(Benue) which has claimed many lives, will save lives and enhance the economic ties between the two states.

He described Enyim and Oju as agricultural areas with lots of agricultural products and that the bridge has affected the evacuation of the products and commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for taking the bull by the horn to construct the bridge

The monarch also said that the routes of Enyim and Oju will be easy access to Abuja and other North central States after the construction of the bridge.

"When we began the journey of advocating for the construction of the bridge project to link the Enyim people of Izzi Local Government Area in Ebonyi State with our brothers and sisters in Benue State three years ago, we believed it would become a project of great significance—one that our people would appreciate and benefit from for generations.

"My spirit has long held the conviction that the governorship seat of Ebonyi State would come to our place, Izzi. In 2016, I shared this vision with our current Governor, His Excellency Rt. Hon. (Builder) Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, when he was then serving as Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly. He laughed, not out of mockery, but out of disbelief that such a prophecy could come to pass. But today, we are witnessing the reality of that divine revelation.

"The journey to this moment was not easy. As a traditional ruler—not a politician—representing the Izzi people in Ohanaeze Ndigbo, I pursued this vision with dedication and patience. In fact, as recently as yesterday, I was scheduled to be in Gambia to join our Ohanaeze President in the coronation of an illustrious Igbo son. However, I had to forgo that international commitment because of the importance of this bridge project. That alone speaks volumes about how dear it is to my heart.

"The flag-off of the Enyim River Bridge, a 5-span structure linking Ebonyi to Benue, is one of the greatest achievements of Governor Nwifuru's administration. This project connects the Salt of the Nation with the Food Basket of the Nation. Upon completion, it will enhance trade, ease transportation, and strengthen intercommunal ties between our two states.

"Historically, Abakaliki was the first developed Wawa-speaking area, followed by Iziogo - the location of my palace. However, due to poor road infrastructure, the flow of agricultural produce into Abakaliki town has been hindered. Without food supply from rural hubs like ours, even residents of the state capital risk facing scarcity.

"By God's grace, Ebonyi State is now led by a humanitarian governor whose passion for community development often keeps him awake at night. Governor Nwifuru is a blessing—not only to Ebonyi, but to Nigeria at large. This bridge project will allow someone like me to drive from my village to Abuja in just a few hours. That is development.

"Enyim community people are known for their farming prowess. Our land is richly fertile, and we produce yam, rice, garri, and fruits in abundance. Yet without critical infrastructure—roads, bridges, and transport systems—our farmers struggle to get their produce to urban markets where it is most needed. This project will unlock that potential.

"I personally appealed to the Governor to construct the road leading to the river. I wanted our community to have accessible routes to urban centers. With this infrastructure, traders and investors can visit our markets, boosting economic growth and creating opportunities for our people.

"Iziogo Market, once a major hub, is now bouncing back, thanks to this renewed development drive. A tunnel project is also planned, further signaling the return of prosperity to this peaceful, environmentally-friendly region—far from the pollution of urban centers.

,"The people of Benue are even more excited about this project than we are. During my late mother’s funeral, they came in large numbers with cultural troupes, yams, and gifts, showing their joy and support for this initiative. Their presence at the flag-off event also demonstrated their deep appreciation", he said.

Gov Nwifuru has completed several projects, Ebonyi govt needs time to do more says Works Commissioner


The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam has said the State government under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has completed a number of road projects in the urban and rural parts of the State alongside other infrastructural projects within the last two years, contrary to claims in some quarters without borrowing a dime.

Speaking through Zoom at the fourth edition of Nkata Oganihu Ebonyi- a platform for public discourse and conversation on issues of governance and administration in Ebonyi State moderated by a Public Health Expert, Dr. Laz Ude Eze, Mbam said Nwifuru has kept faith with line 17 of his campaign promise on his 'People’s Charter of Needs' agenda wherein he pledged to maintain existing infrastructures and expand rural and urban roads.

“When we came on board, we tried to intervene in the urban capital city because most of our roads were dilapidated and road users found them difficult. We were able maintain them under phase 1 of the project which included Aloh Street, Ofor Street, Unity Square axis, Goddy Ogbaga Avenue and we expanded the city by extending it to Mile 50 axis where we sprang forth a new layout and many roads have been constructed there.

You can see the massive development that has been going on there because of the access roads created in that axis and other parts of the State capital. We didn’t stop there. On the rural roads, we have also done much but much more are yet to be done. In the Central axis of the State, Ishielu Local Government to be precise, we have about 22km rural road that was completely impassable. But when we came on board, we started the road and today, the earthwork is about 90% completion and the concrete pavement is going on well. Also in the Central we have some bridges going on there. One is at Umuezeokoha and another is Akadoro bridge in the same Ezza North Local Government Area. In Ikwo, we also have a 13km Odomowo road that is ongoing now and is making a very big progress.

Another road project going in the Central zone is the Ezillo road in Ishielu Local Government Area. The 9.11km road is under my ministry and it is making a very good progress.

Although some of the contractors handling some of the projects delayed in mobilization to site but as I speak to you, they are about to be commissioned once the internal roads are completed. On the Governor's promise to build houses for traditional rulers, that was part of his campaign promises and very soon, it will be completed. The construction of classroom blocks are all going on in our various communities in the various local government areas. Some are at the finishing stages while others are nearing completion.

In the Southern part of the State, we have some rural roads that are ongoing now. In Okposi, we have a 12.12km road that is ongoing under my ministry, another road project at Uburu- a road leading from DUFUTH is also going on. Some roads are also going on in Afikpo under the Ministry of Infrastructure. In Ishiagu, there is a road and a 2-span bridge leading to Enugu that is going on there under my ministry.

In the North, we have a 23km Umuoguduoshia-Nigercem road that is ongoing connecting through Nkalaha. That job is going on as I speak In Abakaliki, we have over 11km road apart from the internal roads in the capital city. There are many roads also going on from Ogbaga road to Nwofe (in Izzi Local Government Area), Odomoke, Ogudueshi road and many others”, the Commissioner disclosed adding that the construction of a low lift at Water works road in the Abakaliki capital city is part of the government's efforts towards addressing water challenges in the urban City which he said is already bearing fruits.

On the Vanco flyover project, the Commissioner who described it as one of its kinds in the South-East revealed the flyover will have a tunnel. According to Mbam, “We have not had such a project in the South East before and a lot has been done. I won’t want to bore you with so much details but I beg that each one of you should make time to visit the site. The tunnel is about 1km and the bridge is about 28 Span, twin flyover and a dual carriage-way and other ancillary works that is going on there.”

Reacting to the allegations that the Vanco flyover is not moving at a fast pace, the Commissioner said people can only complain about the pace because they don’t have the design of the job. “Information is key, sometimes we talk about the project and we know a lot is going on and we know we will get it right”.

While calling on Ebonyians to be patient with the Nwifuru administration, Mbam said the government has made gigantic progress in execution of fiscal infrastructure projects without borrowing any funds from anywhere.

Reacting to the Commissioner’s submissions, a former two-term member of Ebonyi State House of Assembly and former Commissioner for Special Projects, Rt. Hon. Ikechukwu Nwobo lamented that many infrastructure projects in the State are not moving speedily, calling on the government to hold contractors duly accountable so they deliver projects on quality time. “Remember that the governor came out sometime ago to say he gave out 308 projects to people across the State and today, we don’t know whom to blame whether the government or the contractors who are not being held accountable. The Commissioner has to address the mode of awarding contracts and the direct labours under what is called joint-responsibility.”

He said the Vanco flyover is not necessary at the moment especially considering the economic situation of the country at the moment. “This one the government is doing now (the Vanco flyover) is what is called negative development – more than 50 houses and more than 2000 businesses will be affected. Imagine when you take this from Vanco to Ojeowerre or from there to Rice Mill road, you must have evacuated Ebonyi like debris. This is what is called negative development in Developmental Law”, Nwobo decried.

Also reacting, the Convener and Moderator of Nkata Oganihu Ebonyi, Dr. Laz Ude Eze urged the Ebonyi State government to learn to communicate better its policies and programmes for a better Ebonyi State.

The competition which runs from 3rd May 2025 to 1st August 2025 will have participating teams from seven electoral wards of Ebonyi North East which include Abakpa, New layout, kpirikpiri, Abaoffia, Echi Aba, Enyigbuchiri ward 1 and Enyigbuchiri ward 2.

Declaring the competition open at Nnodo Secondary School football pitch, Hon Mrs Chinyere Nwogbaga said the competition aligns with Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru's agenda on youth development especially in the area of sports.

Hon Nwogbaga noted that the sponsorship is both a demonstration of her support for youth empowerment and a token of appreciation to her constituents for electing her.

She emphasized that her foremost ambition is to deliver meaningful and impactful representation.

Organized Labour lauds Nwifuru for clearing 18 years pensions, gratuities, Makes Fresh Demands


The organized Labour in Ebonyi State, has commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for clearing entitlements of retired workers in the state from 1996 till date.

This was even as they reeled out many challenges facing workers in the State and called for the Governor's immediate intervention.

This was contained in the May Day address presented by Comrade Ogugua Egwu, Chairman of NLC in the State,on behalf of the Organized Labour at Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki.

"Your Excellency Sir, some of these plights include: Transportation challenges (Provision of more CNG Buses for workers)Housing challenge (provision of more housing estates for workers).

"Increasing the pension of Retirees as is obtainable in other parts of the country. Equipping Government offices in the Centenary city Reinstatement of the bulk release of Leave allowance in line with the realities of the New National Minimum wage, 2024.

"Reinstating the full salary of staff of the Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo. An additional monthly release of twenty-five million naira only would solve this problem.

"Your Excellency Sir, these issues we believe can be handled with your touch of Midas. And Sir, we use this medium to thank you for directing the immediate recall to work at Ebonyi State University (EBSU), of Comrade Ikechuku Igwenyi and Co after three (3) years of suffering unjust suspension from work for union activities.

"This noble gesture of yours will remain golden in our hearts. We also thank you immensely for granting our request for the cost implication of consequential adjustment with substantial progression to be included in the 2025 Budget. We believe it is a mark of your goodwilled desire for implementation. It is a gesture we shall never forget as Organised Labour.

"Sir, all we desire as your children, as your people, is for you to keep granting us that cordiality of being in the Civic Space of our dear state by providing an avenue for constant and periodic interface and engagement to enable a firsthand feel of the pulse of Ebonyi Workers," the organized Labour said.

He opined that the Governor has given the state enviable face lift through his Peoples Charter of Needs mantra;

"A man who expressed the need for a robust engagement during periods of labour disputes, thereby allowing the Working class to have a voice in the civic space; A man who has appointed unionists and technocrats into his cabinet; A man who feels the pains and anxieties of Ebonyi Workers;

"They said he is unshakable but indeed, his soft heart yearns to touch humanity and that’s why we describe him as the most humanistic Governor of our time. He has done so much that we must question “What he is yet to do for us?” Is it the payment of gratuity to abandoned Retirees spanning the period of almost 18 years; is it the implementation of the New national minimum wage?

"Is it the provision of the toll-free buses to convey workers to work? Is the construction of housing units for public and civil servants? Is it the foreign and local Postgraduate scholarships for Ebonyians? Is it the Christmas bonuses that create the loudest bang of credit alerts for workers? Where do we stop?"

The Organized Labour assured the Governor that it would continue it be partners in the process of enthroning the rights of workers and ensuring that the Civic Space in the state and Nigeria as a whole, will be engaging and progressive for all.

Ebonyi govt flags off 2025 Polio Immunization Campaign



The Ebonyi State government in collaboration with the United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF and other partners on Saturday flagged off the 2025 polio immunization campaign in the state.

Flagging off the exercise in Ishielu Local Government Area Governor Francis Nwifuru said the exercise was aimed towards protecting children from the life threatening disease.

The governor who was represented by his Deputy Princess Patricia Onyemaechi Obila said the state government is determined to change narratives in the health sector through proactive measures and community engagement.

"The efforts of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru in prioritizing health care in Ebonyi State are commendable. We are here today to witness another landmark achievement in our health sector," Mrs. Obila remarked. She emphasized the significance of the polio immunization initiative, stating, "It is imperative that we protect our children from preventable diseases, ensuring no child is left unvaccinated."

She commended health workers and development partners including the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF for their continued support.

“It is our collective responsibility to ensure the health of our future generations,” she stated.

Mrs Obilla praised the Council Chairman, Hon. Mrs. Ifeoma Agwu, for her exemplary leadership and achievements in improving the health and general welfare of Ishielu's residents.

She acknowledged the crucial role local government plays in the health sector and highlighted the partnership between the state government and various health organizations.


In her speech, the Ishielu Local Government Chairman, Hon. Mrs. Ifeoma Peace Agwu, commended Governor Nwifuru’s commitment to advancing health care, citing initiatives such as the employment of health personnel and the modernization of general hospitals across the state.

FERMA reinstates washout Abakaliki/Enugu expressway




The Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Ebonyi State has reinstated a washout on the Abakaliki/Enugu expressway which posed danger to commuters and other road users.

The washout occurred at Km 8+500 on a long span bridge on the expressway.

Akinyemi Ojo, federal road maintenance engineer, Federal Road Maintenance Agency, Ebonyi field office told journalists that the washout was reinstated this year by the agency.

Ojo said the road is now safe for motorists and other road users following the reinstatement of the washout.

"There is a serious washout that occurred last year October at Kilometer 8+500 on the bridge location, long span bridge.along Enugu/Abakaliki road.

"The washout occurred as a result of heavy flood that encroached the carriage ways with a very big hole which posed danger to the commuters.

"We were unable to attend to it last year because the water level was high. So, we waited when the water recessed this year. So, we have reinstated the washout and it is motorable and safe for road users now", he said.

He motorists to always slow down when approaching a bridge to prevent road crashes.

He noted that some bridges are narrower than the bridge width which calls for caution by road users.

says Ex- Ebonyi lawmaker





A former Chairman of Edda Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, Dr. Eni Uduma Chima who contested for House of Representatives for two times, has vowed not to retire from politics for his political rivals.

Chima said he will keep contesting for House of Representatives until he wins the position.

The former House of Assembly member contested for House of Representatives in 2015 under Labour Party and 2019 under All Progressives Congress (APC) and lost the candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Iduma Igariwey who has been in the position for over 10 years.

Speaking in his Ekoli Edda, Edda Local Government hometown at the weekend during the Thanksgiving service of the 51 members of the community who were granted amnesty by Governor Francis Nwifuru in the crisis between the community and neighboring Cross River which led to loss of many lives with properties worth billions of naira destroyed, Chima opined that anyone in the community who believes that he would be dwarfed politically, should have a change of heart

There was attempt to disrupt the event which was held at Egbebu playground in the community when suspected political thugs stormed the venue and dismantled the canopies mounted for the event.

The thugs also scattered plastic chairs arranged for the event and spoiled the decorations.

Chima who described the thugs as supporters of his political rivals in the community, vowed to run for the House of Representatives position in 2027 general elections and that he owes them no apology for his declaration.

The Board Chairman of the state Fertilizer and Chemical Company, said some members of the community have been seeing him as a threat and have been doing everything to diminish him politically because of the love and overwhelming support the people have for him and that he will not quit politics for such persons who are not on ground in the community.

He commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for granting amnesty to the 51 members of the community that served as vigilante to protect the area when the people of Cross River State were killing the Ekoli people.

"Those that wanted to disrupt the Thanksgiving service our people held to appreciate God for what he used our dear Governor to do for them, are used by political opposition within the community.

"All of them are members of a political group and the funny thing is that they constitute about 5% of the entire community. They don't have capacity to do anything.

"They came to disrupt the program. They dismantled the canopies, scattered the chairs, spoiled the decorations but in honour of the words I gave to the law enforcement agencies that there won't be any problem, we talked to our people and it was resolved and we have forgiven them.

"I'm contesting for House of Representatives in 2027. I am eminently qualified, sufficiently experienced and I am owing nobody apology. The people are with me, I will keep contesting until I will and I will continue to be law abiding in the aspiration.

We will take the support for the governor for granted. We gave him the biggest votes in the last election. In 2023 general election, the governor got over 14,000 votes in Edda Local Government Area and this community alone gave him over 9,000 and that's the annoyance of most politicians here.

"They are breeding internal infractions to make sure they distract us and to make sure that feet is not achievable again.

"In 2019, the whole local government gave over 20,000 votes for me and this community alone gave over 23,000 votes to the governor.

"So, it is something these politicians are not happy with and they are doing everything possible to distract the internal peace so that that feet will not be feasible again but by the grace of God, we have succeeded in resisting them.

"So far, so good. The community has come back to life and it is bubbling", he said.

A member of traditional council in the community, Etta Egon, warned trouble makers in the community to desist from their actions.

He said the trouble makers will regret their actions if the continue to distract the peace of the community.

Ebonyi lawmaker Awards Scholarship to constituents




The maiden edition of public presentation of scholarship award to recipients was made over weekend by Hon Goodluck Obinna Mbam Scholarship Scheme established by member representing Izzi East Constituency and Chairman House Committee on Local Government Chieftaincy and EBSIEC Matters in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly. More than thirty beneficiaries in the programme received hundred thousand naira each and other educational materials to enhance their learning process.

In his message, the facilitator and donor of the award Hon Goodluck Obinna Mbam said that his major aim of the award was to support brilliant indigent students to achieve academic excellence and build a brighter tomorrow.

Hon Mbam maintained that investments in education sector outlives a generation adding that he has decided to continue with the program as long as possible but however cautioned the beneficiaries against slack in educational pursuits as this may lead into thier disqualification and withdrawal.

He thanked God Almighty for the Grace and also commended the State Governor Rt Hon Francis Ogbonnia Nwifuru whom he said he emulated having had his own scholarship Programmes right from when he was Speaker of the State House of Assembly and still continuing as Governnor of Ebonyi State where he runs both local, National and overseas scholarship.

Hon Obinna Mbam equally thanked the scholarship committee led by Hon kizitor Nwenyi for the selection of indigent and brilliant students as beneficiaries of the awards adding that their diligence and commitment towards the program was a real boost to the foundation.

Group cautions students against cultism, other social vices in Edda LGA


A socio-political organization, known as the Mezie Edda Grassroots Movement for Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, FON has urged Edda Students studying in higher institutions to shun all forms of crimes and criminal activities, including cultism, examination malpractice and other social vices.

The group through its Organizing Secretary, Orji Okoro Patrick gave the admonition while hosting the President and other Executive members of the Federation of Edda Students, FEDAS, Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana at Owutu Edda, Edda LGA of Ebonyi State.

He urged the students to be good ambassadors and of good behaviour and to also abstain from anything that could jeopardise or mar their glorious future

He thanked the Executives of FEDAS for the visit and further advised the students to work hard and face their studies.

He explained that the MEZIA Edda Grassroots Movement is a socio-political organization in Edda that is committed to excellence, good governance, integrity, peace and cohesion and Youth capacity building in the Edda clan.

While commending the FEDAS leadership, he promised to partner with them on ways to make Edda better in line with the developmental agenda of Hon Chima Ekumankama Mezie Edda.

Being a devout catholic and a strong pillar in the Catholic Women Organization (CWO), Mama not only participated in church life but used her influence to strengthen faith among the women and families in her community. The honour of being admitted into the revered Ezinne league of the church was not just ceremonial - it was a reflection of her life of virtue, service, and godliness.

Mama Comfort was a leader by nature and a servant at heart. Her commitment to her community was evident in the way she gave of her resources, time, and energy. From political participation to active involvement in the Akajiaku Age Grade and grassroots democracy, she broke stereotypes, showing that women could lead, influence, and shape their communities politically and socially.

2023 Ebonyi PDP Guber Candidate, Odii doles out N150m Empowerment to Isu Achara Community to boost food production





The 2023 Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ebonyi State, Chief Chukwuma Odii has empowered Isu Achara community in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State with One Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (150,000,000.00) to boost food production.

Odii who announced the empowerment in the community during Grand Reception in his honour said he would select three beneficiaries each from five kindred that make up the community for modern agric businesses and promised to give N3million each to 15 of them after training.

He also, supported the community N300 Million Naira Town Hall projects with Twenty Million Naira (20,000,000) promising to give more if the money was judiciously utilized.


"Our community is known for its rich in production of rice, yam, Cassava and vegetable foods, and that made our community people agrarian and that is why I am supporting them".

The agricultural empowerment will involve three persons each from the five kindred, making 15 beneficiaries.

"The beneficiaries will go into training in morden farming and after which, I will give them N3million each to start up agricultural business," he said.

Odii, who bagged a Chieftaincy title, "Omeziriobodo 1 of Isuachara alongside other six illustrious sons of the community said the agricultural empowerment would be rotating among the people annually.

Emmanuel Ogudu, National Chairman of Isuachara Development Union said the grand reception and the Chieftaincy award were for the appreciation of Odii for his meritorious service to mankind.

Ogudu, who commended Odii said the annual occasion would pave way for more unified people of Isuachara, urging Odii to keep the flag flying.

Members of Ikeoha forum have congratulated the former Auditor General for Local Governments, Ebonyi State Barr. George Ukpai on being conferred with an award of Excellence by Government Secondary School Owutu Edda Alumni Association.

President Tinubu flags off 465 km Calabar-Ebonyi- Benue- Nasarawa- Abuja Super Highway



President Bola Tinubu, Wednesday flagged off the construction of the Calabar-Ebonyi-Benue-Nasarawa-Abuja Super Highway.

The section 1 of the road with a distance of 118. 8kilometers begins from Ndibe Beach in Afikpo Local Government and traverses Ukwuachi-Mbeke Ishieke Ebonyi Local Government Area to Nassarawa, Benue, Kogi and terminates at FCT.

Government Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State who performed the ground breaking ceremony on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at Amuro Mgbom Primary School, Afikpo said the project when completed will change the face of infrastructure across the South -South, North -Central and South -East Regions of the country

"We are gathered here on the soils of Ebonyi State to witness the take-off of a critical section of a 118.8-kilometer superhighway, a project that promises to change the face of infrastructure across the South-East, North- Central and South-South regions of Nigeria. This initiative is not merely a civil engineering task. It is a bold declaration that the era of isolation, marginalization, and infrastructural neglect is giving way to an era of transformation, inclusion, and nationwide accessibility"

"This corridor, which begins here in our dear state — from the serene banks of Ndibe Beach in Afikpo Local Government Area traverses Ukwuachi-Mbeke Ishieke, Ebonyi Local Government Area and proceeds into Benue State — is part of a larger, ambitious highway system that links the Enugu-Abakaliki/Ogoja Highway through Benue, Kogi, Nassarawa, to the very heart of Nigeria’s capital, the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The project's extension into Cross River State, through Odukpani to Calabar, solidifies its importance not just regionally but nationally."

The Governor expressed confidence in the caliber of contractors and their ability to complete the project on record time.

The Governor assured the support of the government and people of the State especially the host communities to ensure smooth and speedy completion of the project.

The Minister of Works Sen. David Umahi expressed gratitude to Ebonyi State Government , saying the road project is part of President Tinubu's ambition to develop every part of the Country under his Renewed Hope Agenda


In his remarks, the Minister of Works, David Umahi described Tinubu as a President for all, a unifier, a true Nigerian and patriotic Leader who has the entire nation at heart.

"This is a legacy project of the President and the legacy projects are spread across the entire regions of the country.

He promised that the project will be completed within the stipulated time and requested for support of the communities and all the people of the state.

He noted that President Tinubu has changed the story of the southeast for good and reunited the entire country.

"Ebonyi has been so maginalised that even as governor I couldn't lay hands on any reasonable project from the federal government but President Tinubu within a short period of time has changed the narrative for the better.

"We have every cause to be grateful to Mr President. This is one President that have southeast at heart.

"He is the first President to appoint a southeastern as Minister of Works. We didn't have projects like this before but today Mr President is working for all regions of the country.

"Mr President has reunited the entire country and southeast has no cause not to stand for Mr President. Ndigbo are wiser and won't join hands with those who don't like the country.

"We must come together as a region to endorse Mr President for second term.

EBBC committed to provide quality programming, content - DG


The Director General of Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation, Comrade Tony Nwizi has reiterated the corporation's commitment to providing quality programming and content that can signpost the state-owned station in South East region of Nigeria.

Nwizi stated this when he played host to the members of Correspondents' Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ebonyi state chapter.

He said the radio and television station was on the verge of collapsing before being upgraded by the Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State.

He opined that the broadcast equipments in the corporation were very down untill Governor Nwifuru quickly intervened and rehabilitated the station.

He commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for upgrading the corporation to international standard.

He noted that the corporation now has modern equipments that have transformed the two broadcast stations which can now transmit 24hours uninterrupted.

He described Governor Nwifuru as a passionate leader who has made indelible marks in all sectors since he came on board.

Nwizi who is a former Chairman of NUJ in the state, urged media practitioners to continue to project the state in good light through objective reportage.

In his remarks during the visit, the Correspondents'Chapel Chairman, Uchenna Inya, described the DG as a square peg in a square hole.

He lauded Governor Nwifuru for using the DG to transform the corporation.

He praised the leadership style of Nwizi and urged him to introduce more programs that will continue to attract listenership to the stations.

Inya, a correspondent for the Sun appreciated the DG for his love for the Correspondents'Chapel and making the chapel to produce Chairman of NUJ in the state, Comrade Samson Nwafor, the first of its kind since the creation of the state in 1996.
