Former Governor of Ebonyi State and former Minister of Education, Senator Sam Egwu, alongside the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial candidates for Ebonyi Central and South, Professor Bernard Odoh and Chief Linus Okorie, have assured the party's presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, of their commitment to delivering Ebonyi State for him in the 2027 general elections.

The trio gave the assurance on Thursday during a town hall meeting attended by Obi in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

Addressing the mammoth crowd at the event, Egwu, who represented Ebonyi North Senatorial District in the Senate, described Obi as a credible presidential candidate with a track record of public service.

The former governor declared that Ebonyi State was firmly behind the NDC presidential candidate, assuring him of overwhelming support during the forthcoming election.

"Your Excellency, our incoming President, Ebonyi State is NDC and NDC is Ebonyi. Forget what anybody else is telling you. You have seen it with your eyes today.

"I want to believe that the new Nigeria we have been looking for is here with us. It is not by man's effort; it is God that has destined it that way, and no power or force can stop it.

"You can see the mammoth crowd here, and the multitude of those who are in their homes are also talking about the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket, the redeemers of this country. NDC is a party that has come to rescue Nigeria," Egwu said.

He urged party supporters to intensify mobilisation for Obi and ensure that their votes were protected and properly counted during the presidential election.

"We will deliver that day. We will vote for Obi, stay and announce the results. After announcing the results, we shall follow them to the various centres until the results are declared," he said.

Similarly, Professor Bernard Odoh, the NDC senatorial candidate for Ebonyi Central and Chairman of the Planning Committee of the town hall meeting, pledged that party members would protect their votes and follow the electoral process to its conclusion.

Odoh assured Obi that NDC supporters in the state would vote for him and monitor the collation process to ensure that the results were properly declared.

"We will all vote for our dear presidential candidate, His Excellency, Peter Obi. We will follow the results wherever they go until they are declared," he vowed.

Also speaking, the NDC senatorial candidate for Ebonyi South, Chief Linus Okorie, described Obi as a leader capable of providing the leadership Nigeria needs.

Okorie expressed confidence in the party's commitment to delivering the state for its presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections.

The town hall meeting formed part of Obi's engagement with party members and supporters in Ebonyi State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The General Manager of the Ebonyi State Transport Corporation (EBOTRANS), Hon. Mrs. Jennifer Nnenna Igwe, has lauded the wife of the Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Mrs. Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Nwifuru, for her sustained humanitarian interventions and women empowerment initiatives across the state.

Igwe gave the commendation during the grand finale of the 2026 Ebonyi Women August Meeting held at the Pa Ngene Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki.

The annual gathering, organised by the Governor’s wife for women across the 13 Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State, was held under the theme, “The Power of Resilient Women in Nation Building.”

The event brought together women from across the state to celebrate their resilience, unity and achievements, while reinforcing their roles in family development, peace-building and community advancement.

Speaking with journalists at the occasion, Igwe described the theme as timely, saying it captured the strength, determination and resilience that Ebonyi women have demonstrated over the years in the face of social and economic challenges.

She noted that women had remained critical contributors to the growth and development of the state through agriculture, food production, petty trading, entrepreneurship and other economic activities.

“The resilience of Ebonyi women did not begin today. Over the years, our women have played critical roles in farming, food production, sustenance of families and the economic development of our communities,” she said.

Igwe further described the August Meeting as more than an annual social gathering, stressing that it had become a platform for women to strengthen their bonds, promote unity and renew their commitment to peace, family values and community development.

She particularly praised Chief Mrs. Mary-Maudline Nwifuru for what she described as impactful humanitarian and empowerment programmes targeted at women, vulnerable persons and other less-privileged members of society.

According to her, the initiatives have enabled beneficiaries to improve their livelihoods, become economically self-reliant and contribute more effectively to the welfare of their families and communities.

“I commend Her Excellency, Chief Mrs. Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Nwifuru, for her commitment to humanitarian service and women empowerment. Her interventions are touching lives and giving many women renewed hope and opportunities to become self-reliant,” Igwe said.

The EBOTRANS General Manager also commended Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for promoting greater participation of women in governance and development, describing women as indispensable partners in the progress of the state.

Igwe, who expressed confidence in the leadership of Governor Nwifuru, pledged to mobilise massive support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly among women in Ishielu Local Government Area and across Ebonyi State.

She said sustained mobilisation, unity and active participation of women would be crucial to the party’s success in the 2027 elections.

“We will continue to mobilise our women massively for the APC in 2027. We believe in the leadership of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, and we will continue to support programmes and policies that promote empowerment, peace, good governance and improved living conditions for our people,” she added.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives candidate for the Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency, Barr. Joseph Ekumankama, has commended Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, for providing a peaceful and conducive environment for the successful conduct of the 2026 local government elections in the state.

Ekumankama also congratulated the newly elected chairmen of Afikpo, Edda and Ohaozara Local Government Areas, Engr. Timothy Nwachi, Hon. Simeon Onuoha and Engr. Osborn Nweze Umahi, respectively, as well as other successful candidates, describing their victories as a reflection of the confidence reposed in them by the people.

In a statement on Monday, which was made available to journalists in Abakaliki, the former minister said the peaceful conduct of the elections and the impressive turnout of voters demonstrated the growing interest of the people in grassroots governance.

Ekumankama, who monitored the election after casting his vote at his polling unit in Amangwu Ward, Edda LGA, expressed satisfaction with the orderly conduct of the exercise and the enthusiasm displayed by voters.

He commended Governor Nwifuru for creating an atmosphere that enabled eligible voters to exercise their civic responsibilities without fear or intimidation.

According to him, the peaceful nature of the exercise was particularly encouraging, noting that credible and peaceful elections remain essential to strengthening democracy and ensuring that elected leaders are accountable to the people.

Ekumankama said the victories of Nwachi, Onuoha, Osborn and others came with the responsibility to deliver effective leadership and prioritise the welfare and development of their constituents.

He urged the newly elected chairmen and councillors to see their victories as a mandate to serve all residents, irrespective of political affiliation, and to work closely with traditional rulers, community leaders, youths, women and other stakeholders to advance development at the grassroots.

“I congratulate Engr. Timothy Nwachi, Hon. Simeon Onuoha, Engr. Osborn Nweze Umahi and others on their victories. Their emergence is a call to greater service and a responsibility to justify the confidence reposed in them by the people,” he said.

Ekumankama further called on the people of Afikpo, Edda, Ohaozara and other affected local government areas to support the new administrations and give them the necessary cooperation to implement programmes that would improve infrastructure, security, economic opportunities and social services across their respective areas.

He also praised the electorate for their peaceful disposition during the election, urging political actors to continue to embrace issue-based campaigns, tolerance and respect for the democratic process.

The APC candidate also commended the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) for what he described as the successful organisation and conduct of the elections.

“I commend EBSIEC for the organisation and peaceful conduct of the exercise. The commission and all stakeholders deserve commendation for ensuring that the people were given the opportunity to exercise their franchise in a peaceful atmosphere,” he said.

Ekumankama further commended the leadership of the APC in Ebonyi State, led by Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, for maintaining stability within the party and organising successful campaign rallies across the state ahead of the local government elections.

He said the ability of the party to mobilise its members and supporters across the local government areas reflected the strength and organisational capacity of the APC Chairman in the state.

A former House of Representatives aspirant for Ebonyi/Ohanukwu Federal Constituency on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Engr. Dr. Friday Onwe Nkwo, has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that the NDC had failed to meet the expectations that informed his participation in the party.

Nkwo announced his defection during the APC campaign flag-off rally for the forthcoming local government elections in Ohanukwu, Ebonyi State, where he said he had chosen to join the APC because of what he described as the party's progressive leadership at both the state and federal levels.

According to him, he and other members initially joined the NDC with the hope of contributing to the emergence of a better Nigeria, promoting transparency and repositioning the country for future generations.

He, however, said the party's activities eventually deviated from those expectations, becoming increasingly influenced by what he described as "money-bag politics."

"We were there for a better Nigeria and to reposition Nigeria for the incoming generations. We hoped for good change and transparency. We were looking for a better platform to transform this country, but we were disappointed. It didn't happen as we planned," he said.

Nkwo said his decision to join the APC was influenced by the development projects and leadership style of Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, as well as the performance of the APC-led Federal Government.

"I see APC as a better platform, looking at what is happening in this state, the developmental strides of our dear Governor, Chief Francis Nwifuru, and the way the President is handling the affairs of this country. I think there is hope for Nigeria," he said.

The former aspirant said he was joining the APC with more than 1,000 supporters, adding that he was prepared to mobilise them and other stakeholders for the success of the party in the 2027 general elections.

"Goodness attracts goodness. That's why I am here. More than 1,000 followers are defecting along with me," he declared.

Nkwo further claimed that the NDC had effectively collapsed in Ebonyi State, particularly following the movement of members of the party into the APC.

"NDC has just collapsed, not only in Ohanukwu but in Ebonyi State. In Ebonyi State here, we can say that NDC is a defunct party because all have moved to APC," he said.

He expressed confidence that his defection would strengthen the APC ahead of the 2027 elections, assuring Governor Nwifuru of his commitment to supporting the administration and mobilising voters for the party.

The former aspirant also pledged to work for the success of the APC in the forthcoming local government elections, urging his supporters to support the party's candidates.

He said the political landscape in Ebonyi had changed significantly, arguing that the movement of former opposition candidates and supporters into the APC had further strengthened the ruling party across the state.

Nkwo said he was particularly proud to embrace what he described as the progressive change represented by the APC and expressed optimism that his decision would contribute to the party's continued dominance in Ebonyi State.

APC Launches Ishielu LGA Campaign, Hails Governor Nwifuru's Development Drive

The All Progressives Congress (APC) officially launched its campaign activities for the forthcoming Local Government Council Election in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State on Tuesday with a massive rally at the Council headquarters in Ezillo.

Party faithful turned out in large numbers to demonstrate solidarity and renewed commitment to delivering victory for APC candidates at the polls.

Speaking to journalists during the rally, the General Manager of Ebonyi Transport Service (EBOTRANS) and prominent APC stakeholder in Ishielu LGA, Hon. Mrs. Jennifer Nnenna Igwe, commended the Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for what she described as his visionary and people-oriented leadership.

Mrs. Igwe said the Nwifuru administration had ushered in a new era of development through massive investments in road infrastructure, education, healthcare, security and other critical sectors.

“The people of Ishielu Local Government Area are delighted and appreciative of the Governor’s people-oriented leadership and numerous development projects in the area,” she said.

“Notable among them are the Ezillo–Ezzaegu Road, Ezillo–Izzo Housing Estate, construction of palaces for traditional rulers, revitalisation of the Ezillo Water Scheme, and the numerous appointments extended to deserving sons and daughters of Ishielu.”

She assured the Governor that Ishielu people would reciprocate his goodwill with overwhelming support for the APC in the Local Government Council Election scheduled for Saturday, August 22, 2026.

Health stakeholders in Nigeria are urging urgent, coordinated reforms to the country’s medical oxygen system, warning that gaps in supply, access, and administration continue to drive preventable deaths in hospitals nationwide.

Speaking in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Professor Jesse Uneke, Nigeria and State Lead for the EQUI-RESP Africa Research Project, said more than 600,000 deaths each year are linked to problems with medical oxygen availability and delivery.

“These deaths are very preventable,” Uneke said at the First Stakeholders’ Engagement and Co-Creation Workshop on the Medical Oxygen Economy. “If patients had timely access to quality oxygen, and facilities had the right infrastructure and trained staff, we could save a significant number of lives.”

The workshop convened researchers, clinicians, policymakers, government officials, and private sector actors to diagnose weaknesses in Nigeria’s oxygen ecosystem and co-design practical solutions to improve access and affordability.

Uneke said the challenge extends beyond producing oxygen. Nigeria must strengthen the entire value chain: production, distribution, storage, equipment maintenance, and clinical administration.

He called for stronger government commitment, increased investment, and policies that ensure oxygen is available where and when it is needed. A stronger oxygen economy, he added, would save lives and make the health system more resilient, especially for emergency and critical care.

The project has now entered its second phase. After starting with community-based interventions, EQUI-RESP Africa is shifting to a hospital-based program focused squarely on medical oxygen and its economics.

“From what we have seen, this is one area that is not well emphasized in the health sector,” Uneke said.

Participants also stressed the need for closer collaboration among government agencies, research institutions, healthcare providers, development partners, and private operators.

Key recommendations included:
- Sustainable financing* to keep oxygen supply consistent
- Improved infrastructure* for production and delivery
- Capacity building* for health workers on safe oxygen use
- Policies that support* local production and reliable distribution

EQUI-RESP Africa is being implemented in Nigeria and other African countries to generate evidence and support innovations for respiratory care and access to essential interventions.

Stakeholders said piecemeal efforts will not work. They urged authorities to translate research and recommendations into concrete policies and programs.

“We can reduce oxygen-related mortality,” participants concluded. “No Nigerian patient should die simply because lifesaving oxygen was unavailable or was not properly administered.”

OWUTU EDDA, Ebonyi State — A socio-political group in Ebonyi South has thrown its weight behind former Minister of State for Health, Barr. Joseph Ekumankama, declaring him the most qualified candidate to represent Afikpo /Edda Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in 2027.

The endorsement was announced by the Edda Grassroots Movement for PBAT–FON–JOE 2027 during its inaugural meeting held at John Halt Hall in Owutu Edda on Tuesday.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the Organising Secretary of the movement, Hon. Orji Patrick, said the decision was based on Ekumankama’s track record in public service, leadership experience, and dedication to grassroots development.

“Barr. Joseph Ekumankama has distinguished himself over the years through service to the people. He has the capacity, the exposure, and the commitment to give Afikpo and Edda effective representation at the National Assembly and attract development that touches the people directly,” Patrick said.

He described the former minister as a unifying figure with the political experience needed to strengthen the constituency’s voice in Abuja and ensure more democratic dividends for the people.

Patrick explained that the movement was formed with a three-point agenda: to mobilise support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the re-election of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, and the election of Barr. Joseph Ekumankama to the House of Representatives.

According to him, Ekumankama’s candidacy aligns with the APC’s vision of purposeful leadership and continuity at both the federal and state levels.

“We are calling on all sons and daughters of Afikpo and Edda to rally behind this aspiration. With Ekumankama in the House, we are confident that our constituency will get stronger representation and more projects,” he added.

The Organising Secretary also urged members of the movement to remain united and step up grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections to secure victory for the All Progressives Congress and its candidates across the board.

The meeting drew stakeholders, ward coordinators, and youth leaders from across the Local government .

Ekumankama served as Minister of State for Health during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari and has remained active in APC politics in Ebonyi State.

Political activities are expected to intensify in the constituency in the coming months as parties begin preparations for the 2027 elections.

The decision was reached during a stakeholders' meeting held at the residence of the Chairman of the Ogbu Ward APC Campaign Committee, Dr. Okoro Uchenna, in Ogbu Village.

The meeting brought together party leaders, ward executives, women and youth leaders, as well as members from across the ward to fine-tune strategies for the campaign and the August 22 local government election.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Okoro Uchenna urged party faithful to sustain aggressive grassroots mobilisation and ensure a massive turnout for the campaign flag-off, describing the event as a crucial step towards consolidating the party's strength in Edda.

He said Ogbu Ward remained firmly committed to the APC and was fully prepared to deliver overwhelming support for the party and its candidates through effective voter mobilisation and unity among members.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by members to strengthen the party's grassroots structure and work collectively towards delivering Ogbu Ward for the APC in the August 22 local government election.

The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 Abia State election, Chief Ndubuisi Etugo Ogah, has dismissed speculations that he is a placeholder for any individual or political party, insisting that he remains the authentic governorship standard-bearer of the party and is fully committed to contesting and winning the election.

Ogah made the declaration in a statement issued on Saturday in response to what he described as widespread rumours portraying him as a political placeholder.

He maintained that his decision to seek the governorship of Abia State was driven by a genuine desire to serve the people and transform the state's socio-economic and infrastructural landscape.

"I, Ndubuisi Ogah, am not a placeholder. I am standing firmly as the governorship standard-bearer of the NDC in Abia State. I am not fronting for anybody, and nobody is sponsoring me to contest on their behalf. I am participating fully in the forthcoming election to the very end," he stated.

The NDC candidate said his ambition is to provide purposeful leadership capable of changing the "ugly narrative" of governance in Abia through investments in human capital development, industrialisation, job creation and wealth generation.

According to him, an Ogah-led administration would implement robust policies aimed at strengthening democratic institutions, improving public service delivery and executing landmark infrastructure projects across the state.

He also pledged to prioritise quality education, efficient healthcare services and a strengthened security architecture to promote sustainable development and improve the living standards of Abia residents.

Reaffirming his commitment to equitable development across the 17 local government areas of the state, the industrialist urged the public to disregard claims that he was contesting on behalf of another political interest.

Ogah alleged that the rumours were being spread by political opponents who were apprehensive about the NDC's growing popularity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He called on members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, party supporters and the people of Abia State to remain united and committed to the party's vision.

The governorship hopeful expressed confidence that the NDC would secure victory in the 2027 elections, win the majority of elective positions in the state and deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Abia upon assuming office.

The Ebonyi State Council of Elders has urged contractors handling ongoing government projects across the state to accelerate the pace of work while maintaining strict compliance with approved engineering standards and contractual specifications.

The Council gave the charge after an inspection tour of major infrastructure projects on Friday, expressing satisfaction with the quality of work and the level of completion recorded at the various project sites.

Speaking on behalf of the Council, the Chairman, Chief Ben Okah, said the inspection confirmed that the projects were progressing in line with expectations and applauded the contractors for adhering to quality standards.

He, however, emphasized the need for timely completion of the projects, urging all contractors to intensify efforts without compromising professional standards or contractual obligations.

Chief Okah also commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for what he described as the impressive quality and pace of infrastructure development across Ebonyi State.

According to him, the ongoing projects reflect the governor's commitment to sustainable development, improved public infrastructure, and the economic transformation of the state.

He noted that the Council was particularly impressed by the administration's resolve to execute projects that would have lasting socio-economic benefits for the people, expressing confidence that the completed projects would significantly enhance transportation, urban development, and overall economic growth in Ebonyi State.
Projects inspected included the ultra-modern VANCO Flyover and Tunnel in Abakaliki, the Nwezenyi Flyover along the Trans-Saharan Way in Izzi Local Government Area, the Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering University at Onueke, the Senator Chris Nwankwo Housing Estate at Chiboy Nkwegu, and the Ebonyi International Trade Centre at Presco Junction, Abakaliki.


The Council Chairman also appealed to the people of Ebonyi State to continue supporting the present administration, noting that Governor Nwifuru had consistently demonstrated commitment to sustainable development and the welfare of the citizens.

Conducting members of the Council round the project sites, the Commissioner for Works, Mr. Lebechi Mbam, alongside the Commissioner for Infrastructure and Concession, Mr. Ogbonnaya Abara, explained the level of completion and economic importance of the projects, saying they would stimulate economic growth, improve transportation, beautify the state and strengthen Ebonyi's investment potential.

Responding to criticisms from some quarters over the alleged slow pace of work, particularly on the VANCO Flyover and Tunnel project, Mbam dismissed the claims, insisting that construction was progressing in line with approved engineering specifications and established procedures.

He appealed to residents to remain patient, assuring them that the project would rank among the finest engineering landmarks in the South-East upon completion.

"I want to appeal to residents to remain patient. I assure you that when the project is completed, it will not only ease traffic congestion but also stand as one of the finest engineering landmarks in the South-East," Mbam stated.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Project Monitoring, Chief Sunday Inyima, disclosed that many of the projects were awarded to indigenous contractors as part of the state government's policy of empowering local businesses and promoting economic inclusion.

He urged the contractors to justify the confidence reposed in them by delivering quality projects within the stipulated completion period.

Ebonyi Govt Distances Itself from Unauthorized Foodstuff Dealers' Election



The Ebonyi State Government has distanced itself from an alleged attempt by some members of the Ebonyi State Foodstuff Dealers Association to conduct an election despite the official suspension of the exercise by the government.

The Commissioner for Market Development, Hon. Okwu Oko-Udu, described the move as a direct violation of the government's directive, stressing that the election remains suspended until all outstanding issues within the association are amicably resolved.

In a statement, the commissioner explained that the decision to suspend the election earlier scheduled for July 17, 2026, was not borne out of compromise but was intended to create an opportunity for stakeholders to resolve existing disagreements, promote unity and ensure a peaceful atmosphere before a new election date is announced.

According to him, Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru's administration is committed to peace, harmony and due process, urging members of the association to emulate the governor's peaceful leadership by exercising patience and allowing the reconciliation process to run its course.

Hon. Oko-Udu disclosed that members of the Ebonyi State Market Development Board, acting on his delegation, visited the association to encourage members to maintain decorum following the suspension of the election. However, they were surprised to discover that some individuals had allegedly made arrangements to conduct a parallel election in defiance of the government's directive.

He stated emphatically that neither the Ministry of Market Development nor the Ebonyi State Market Development Board approved or supported any attempt to hold an election while the suspension remains in force.

"The Ministry and the Board are not in support of any attempt to conduct the election. We wish to make it clear to the public that the election remains suspended until all conflicting issues are amicably resolved," he said.

The commissioner called on members of the association and the general public to respect the government's decision, maintain law and order, and cooperate with ongoing efforts aimed at restoring peace and unity within the association before a new election date is fixed.

Mary Habila: Police Spokesperson Urges Restraint, Warn Against Unverified Allegations


The spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos, CSP Nkeiruka Nwode, has appealed to Nigerians to exercise restraint and refrain from spreading unverified allegations regarding the death of Miss Mary Habila.

In a statement issued on Friday, Nwode described Habila's death as a heartbreaking tragedy and expressed condolences to her family, friends, and all those affected by the loss.

She urged the public to allow the appropriate authorities to conduct a thorough, impartial, and transparent investigation, including an autopsy, stressing that justice for the deceased and fairness to everyone connected with the case must go hand in hand.

"Grief should never become an excuse for speculation, character assassination, or the spread of unverified information. No one should be tried and convicted on social media," she said.

The senior police officer maintained that facts, rather than rumours, should guide public discourse on the matter, adding that due process must be allowed to take its full course.

Nwode also cautioned against using the incident to spread defamatory statements or inflame public sentiment, warning that words have consequences and that reputations built over decades should not be destroyed by assumptions or unverified narratives.

According to her, responsibility should prevail over sensationalism, while justice should take precedence over prejudice as investigations continue.

Mrs. Igwe also disclosed that EBOTRANS has prioritised safety and professionalism through the continuous training and retraining of drivers in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), alongside regular medical examinations conducted by healthcare professionals from Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki (AE-FUTHA).

The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has claimed that the ongoing infrastructure development across the South-East under the administration of President Bola Tinubu is diminishing the political popularity of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi.

Umahi made the assertion while inspecting ongoing federal road projects in Ebonyi State over the weekend. He said the scale of development being witnessed in the region had exposed what he described as "false narratives" that the South-East had been neglected by the Federal Government.

According to the minister, President Tinubu has demonstrated commitment to the development of the South-East through massive investments in critical road infrastructure and other legacy projects, stressing that the administration has treated all regions fairly.

Umahi argued that the visible projects being executed across the South-East were strengthening public confidence in the Federal Government and weakening opposition criticisms.

The minister also dismissed recent comments attributed to Peter Obi suggesting that there were threats to his life, describing the claims as a reflection of political frustration rather than reality.

"There is nobody that wants Peter Obi dead. Those making such claims are simply frustrated because the people can now see the level of development taking place in the South-East under President Tinubu," Umahi said.

He urged residents of the region to continue supporting the Federal Government, insisting that the administration remained committed to delivering quality infrastructure and inclusive development across the country.

Umahi reiterated that ongoing road and bridge projects in the South-East would enhance economic activities, improve connectivity, and stimulate regional growth, adding that the Federal Government would sustain the pace of infrastructure delivery in line with President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.

Members of the Ebonyi State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) have appealed to Governor Francis Nwifuru to allocate an alternative parcel of land to the union following the revocation of its three-hectare allocation at the EBSU Pocket Layout.

The appeal was contained in a seven-point communiqué issued at the end of the union's congress held at the Dr Sam Egwu Press Centre, Abakaliki.

The congress expressed concern over the recent revocation of all land allocations to individuals and organisations within the EBSU Pocket Layout by the Ebonyi State Government.

The government explained that the land belongs to Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, which possesses a valid Certificate of Occupancy (C of O).

According to the communiqué, the revocation affected the three hectares of land earlier allocated to the NUJ for the development of a Journalists' Estate, a project funded through contributions made by members of the union.

"Congress noted with concern the recent revocation of allocations to individuals and groups at the EBSU Pocket Layout, including the three hectares of land acquired by the NUJ for an estate project with funds contributed by members. In view of this, Congress passionately appealed to His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Builder Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, to consider allocating alternative land to the union to enable it to realise its dream of having its own estate where members can build and live with their families," the communiqué stated.

The union said the proposed estate is aimed at providing members with access to affordable residential plots and fostering a sense of community among journalists in the state.

The NUJ recalled that the land, known as the Journalists' Estate, was allocated to the union during the administration of former Governor David Umahi as part of efforts to improve the welfare of media practitioners in Ebonyi State.

The union expressed optimism that Governor Nwifuru would favourably consider its appeal by providing another suitable location for the housing project, thereby preserving the aspirations of members who had invested in the initiative.

Ebonyi Works Commissioner Debunks Viral Claim on Vanco Flyover, Reaffirms Government’s Commitment to Project



ABAKALIKI – The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Works has dismissed as false and misleading a social media report alleging that the state government had engaged a Chinese construction company to take over the Vanco Flyover and Tunnel Project in Abakaliki and ordered the demolition of the existing structure.

In a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Works, Mr. Onwe Emmanuel Onwe, the ministry described the report as a fabrication designed to misinform the public and undermine the infrastructural development efforts of the administration of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.

The statement clarified that at no time had the Ebonyi State Government approved or announced plans to demolish the Vanco Flyover and Tunnel Project, contrary to claims circulating on social media.

According to the ministry, there is also no truth in the allegation that a Chinese construction company was invited to assess the project and subsequently recommended the demolition of the existing structure due to alleged defects in the foundation.

“The report is entirely false, unfounded and does not reflect the reality of the project,” the ministry stated, stressing that no Chinese firm had made any such recommendation to the government or the Ministry of Works.

The ministry accused the authors of the publication of deliberately spreading misinformation with the intention of creating public anxiety and casting doubt on the government's commitment to infrastructure development.

It further emphasized that all decisions relating to public projects in Ebonyi State are guided by professional engineering assessments, due process and the best interests of the people, rather than unverified claims and social media rumours.

The government also faulted portions of the report which speculated about project costs, contract arrangements and alleged kickbacks, describing such assertions as baseless and irresponsible.

The Ministry warned that the circulation of false information regarding critical infrastructure projects could mislead the public and erode confidence in government institutions.

Reaffirming the state government's commitment to the completion of the project, the ministry noted that the Vanco Flyover and Tunnel remains a critical infrastructure initiative aimed at improving traffic flow, addressing flooding challenges and enhancing economic activities within Abakaliki and its environs.

The statement also dismissed suggestions that investment in infrastructure was being pursued at the expense of empowerment programmes, noting that skill acquisition and empowerment initiatives are simultaneously being implemented through various ministries and government agencies.

The ministry therefore urged residents of Ebonyi State and the general public to disregard the publication in its entirety and rely solely on official government channels for accurate information concerning ongoing projects across the state.

It reiterated its commitment to transparency, public engagement and accountability while maintaining a firm stance against misinformation and deliberate attempts to distort facts for political or personal interests.

Atiku Clinches ADC Primary Win in Ebonyi



Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged winner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election in Ebonyi State after polling 15,300 votes in the exercise conducted across the state.

The result was declared at Preston Hotel, which served as the state collation centre for the primary election.

According to the official results released by the Ebonyi State Presidential Primary Election Committee, Atiku defeated former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, who secured 2,200 votes, while Muhammad Hayatudeen polled 200 votes.

The committee disclosed that Ebonyi State had a total of 18,891 registered voters for the exercise conducted across the 171 wards in the 13 local government areas of the state. Out of the figure, 17,700 voters were accredited for the primary.

Chairman of the committee and ADC National Vice Chairman (Diaspora), Fred Onwe, while declaring the result, said Atiku scored the highest number of votes and was therefore returned as the winner of the presidential primary in the state.

The State Chairman of the party, Silas Joseph Onu, commended returning officers for what he described as their uncommon commitment and dedication to the exercise despite the heavy rainfall experienced across the state.

'Journalists’ Chapel Slams Senator Eze Over Alleged Assault at Ebonyi Senatorial Primary





Abakaliki – The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ebonyi State chapter, has condemned the alleged attack on the state NUJ Chairman, Comrade Samson Nwafor, and other journalists during the Ebonyi Central senatorial primary in Onueke, Ezza South Local Government Area on Monday, May 18, 2026.

In a statement signed by Chapel Chairman Comrade Uchenna Inya, the group said the incident occurred at the hands of Senator Kenneth Eze, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and National Orientation, his aides, and political thugs. The chapel described the attack as an assault on the entire journalism community in the state.

“The chapel views this attack as an attack on the entire journalists in the state,” the statement read.

The journalists outlined four demands in response. They called on Senator Eze to uphold his role as head of the Senate Committee on Information by refraining from intimidating and harassing journalists carrying out their duties as the fourth estate of the realm.

The chapel also demanded a public apology from the senator within 24 hours, warning that failure to comply would result in a media blacklist. It further stated that Senator Eze, his aides, and one Kizito Nwankwo—who allegedly threatened to “deal with” any journalist who published details of the incident—should be held responsible if any journalist in the state comes to harm.

In addition, the group urged Senate President Godswill Akpabio to remove Senator Eze from his position as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and National Orientation, citing his inability to control his temperament in public.

The chapel recalled that it had been less than a month since Senator Eze was involved in a heated exchange with senatorial aspirant Chief Christian Asaga Nwali at a burial ceremony in Amudo, Ezza South LGA. That incident, it said, embarrassed attendees and heightened political tensions in the area.

Renewed Hope GEEP Kicks Off in Ebonyi as FG Pushes Grassroots Economic Empowerment


ABAKALIKI – The Federal Government have rolled out the Renewed Hope FarmerMoni 3.0 programme in the South-East, targeting smallholder farmers with interest-free, collateral-free loans to increase productivity and strengthen food security.

The programme, organised by the National Social Investment Programme Agency (N-SIPA) in collaboration with the Ebonyi State Government, was unveiled during the Renewed Hope FarmerMoni South-East Media Sensitisation and Stakeholders’ Engagement held at Re-Meritona Hotels and Suites in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

The launch in Abakaliki forms part of the broader Renewed Hope Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (RHGEEP) 3.0, driven by N-SIPA under the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro, described FarmerMoni as one of the flagship intervention programmes of the Federal Government under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Minister, represented by the National Programme Manager of the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), Hon. Hamza Baba, said the programme was designed to provide interest-free financial support to small-scale farmers to improve productivity, strengthen food security, and reduce rural poverty.

Baba disclosed that Ebonyi State was selected to host the South-East zonal media sensitisation because of its growing profile in agriculture, particularly in rice, cassava, and livestock production.

He commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for implementing policies that have positioned Ebonyi as an emerging agricultural hub in the country.

According to him, the state government’s investments in irrigation, livestock development, agricultural value chains, and rural infrastructure demonstrate a strong commitment to sustainable food production.

He highlighted the implementation of the International Fund for Agricultural Development-supported Value Chain Development Programme and the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project backed by the World Bank, noting that such initiatives align with the objectives of FarmerMoni.

“The Federal Government is committed to supporting Nigerian farmers through inclusive economic growth and strategic agricultural partnerships.

“FarmerMoni is not a grant but an interest-free loan designed to support vulnerable farmers. Beneficiaries are expected to utilise the funds judiciously and repay within six to nine months to enable others to benefit,” Baba said.

He further revealed that beneficiaries who successfully repay the loans would qualify for larger credit facilities through partnerships with financial institutions, including the Bank of Agriculture and NIRSAL.

Baba urged desk officers and field coordinators selected from the local government areas to ensure transparency, credibility, and fairness during the enumeration and monitoring of beneficiaries.

Speaking while flagging off the programme, State Governor Francis Nwifuru said the state government remained committed to transformative leadership anchored on the “People’s Charter of Needs” policy framework.

The Governor, represented by the State Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barrister Ikeuwa Omebeh, said the government had continued to invest heavily in peacebuilding, security, human capital development, and agricultural empowerment programmes aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable communities across the state.

According to him, the Nwifuru administration has prioritised the construction of concrete-paved rural roads and modern markets in rural communities to ease access to farms and improve the marketing of agricultural produce.

“Ebonyi people are hardworking and predominantly agrarian. Government’s fundamental responsibility is the protection of lives and property, and today Ebonyi remains one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria,” he said.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction for sustaining intervention programmes in agriculture and poverty alleviation, noting that Ebonyi people had benefited immensely from the initiatives.

Also speaking, the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Human Capital Development and Monitoring, Mrs. Ann Aligwe, said many smallholder farmers running into thousands in the state would benefit from the programme, with each beneficiary expected to receive N300,000.

She explained that the intervention aligns with Governor Nwifuru’s Charter of Needs agenda, which prioritises citizens’ welfare and human capital development.

“The essence of this programme is to ensure that Ebonyians benefit directly from the Renewed Hope Agenda. These funds are meant to support small farmers during the farming season so that nobody in Ebonyi will go hungry during harvest periods,” she stated.

Aligwe recalled that the state government recently flagged off the distribution of debit cards to about 35,000 beneficiaries of another social investment initiative across the 13 local government areas of the state.

She advised beneficiaries not to divert the funds but to invest strictly in farming activities to maximise productivity and improve their livelihoods.

On whether additional phases would be introduced, the Commissioner noted that the current allocation covered only the approved beneficiaries, adding that further expansion would depend on decisions by the Federal Government.

In his address, the Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Ebonyi State chapter, Dr. Ignatius Unah, commended President Tinubu for introducing people-oriented programmes under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He described FarmerMoni, TraderMoni, and MarketMoni as strategic interventions capable of transforming rural economies and empowering artisans, traders, and farmers.

Similarly, the Head of Administration of GEEP, Ifeoma Chukwumbah, said FarmerMoni targets smallholder farmers involved in crop production, poultry, fisheries, livestock, and allied agricultural ventures.

She explained that beneficiaries would receive collateral-free, interest-free loans of up to N300,000, with repayment structured around farming cycles.

According to her, repayment would commence three months after disbursement and could span six to nine months, depending on the nature of farming activities.

Chukwumbah disclosed that unpaid beneficiaries captured under GEEP 2.0 in 2022 would also be accommodated once revalidated, while fresh registrations are ongoing for new participants under GEEP 3.0.

As part of the sensitisation programme, officials and stakeholders, led by the Permanent Secretary, Ebonyi State Ministry of Human Capital Development and Monitoring, Mr. Henry Nworie, visited selected agricultural clusters, including SCON Agro Farm in Okaria Edda community in Abakaliki Local Government Area and Diamond Testimony Farm at Ameta Ezza in Ezza South Local Government Area.

The farms, which specialise in poultry, piggery, fisheries, palm plantations, and other livestock activities, were showcased as examples of Ebonyi’s growing agricultural potential under ongoing government interventions.

Abakaliki FC Underperforms Despite Strong Funding, Says Governor’s Sports Aide Pius Nwankwo



The Special Assistant to the Ebonyi State Governor on Sports, Mr. Pius Nwankwo, has called for a comprehensive restructuring of Abakaliki FC, arguing that the club’s current administrative and technical framework cannot deliver competitive results despite receiving substantial government funding.

Nwankwo, a former international footballer with a professional career across Europe and Africa, made the remarks during a press conference in Abakaliki while assessing the state of sports development in Ebonyi and the performance of the state-owned club.

He commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for reviving sports in the state after more than 15 years of decline.

“The governor has done well in bringing sports back to Ebonyi. Activities had almost collapsed for over a decade and a half. Without sports, many of us would have no relevance or engagement,” he said.

However, Nwankwo expressed concern over Abakaliki FC’s underperformance relative to its financial backing.

“I don’t know what people mean when they say the club has done well. My assessment is clear: it has fallen below expectations. The club is well-funded and lacks nothing except results. In football, much is given and much is expected,” he stated.

He likened the situation to investing in a business without returns, insisting that effort alone cannot excuse poor performance.
Nwankwo rejected the notion that a mid-table finish represented progress for a well-resourced club.
“Coming fifth is not success at this level. If you are well-funded and still hover around mid-table or close to relegation, then something is fundamentally wrong,” he said.

The sports aide also questioned the club’s administrative structure, noting the absence of a functional management system.
“Abakaliki FC currently lacks a proper management framework. Multiple board members without clearly defined roles have created inefficiency,” he said, adding that his call was for systemic reform, not personal criticism.

On allegations of internal crises, including salary deductions and disputes between players and management, Nwankwo said such claims must be backed by documentation.
“If players feel they are being short-changed, they should provide evidence. I cannot act on rumours. My office is open when they are ready,” he noted.

He further stressed that technical performance should be measured by league standings rather than cup competitions, which he described as “knockout-based and not a true reflection of consistency.” Any technical crew managing a well-funded team, he said, must be held accountable for results.

Nwankwo also addressed the debate over the inclusion of indigenous players, emphasizing that merit should take precedence over sentiment. “In every part of the world, you build a team by combining experienced professionals with local talent. That is how development works,” he said.

The Ebonyi State Council of Elders has declared its unanimous support for Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s second-term bid in 2027, commending his leadership in resolving disputes arising from the All Progressives Congress [APC] candidate selection process for State and National Assembly elections.

In a press briefing in Abakaliki, the Chairman of the Elders Council, Engr. Ben Okah, flanked by the Secretary, Nduka Ozo, and other members, said the governor’s handling of recent political developments had reaffirmed his role as the “Father of Ebonyi State.”

“We have observed, with great satisfaction, his depth of understanding, leadership capacity, and unwavering commitment to the peace, unity, and overall well-being of the people of Ebonyi State,” the statement read.

The elders noted that the governor’s approach had demonstrated fairness, inclusiveness, and a genuine commitment to the collective interest of all Ebonyians.

They expressed appreciation for what they described as the solid foundation laid by his administration, which they said provides a credible pathway for continued progress.

Abakaliki – A former member of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chris Usulor, has declared his intention to contest the Ebonyi Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Usulor, a three-term lawmaker from Ezza South Local Government Area, made his intention known while addressing supporters and party stakeholders in his constituency.

He said his decision was informed by a sense of duty and the need to provide focused and result-oriented representation for the people of the zone.

“I hereby formally declare my intention to contest for the senatorial position to represent Ebonyi Central Senatorial Zone on the platform of the APC,” he said.

Abakaliki – The member representing Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Chief Emmanuel Uguru, JP (Agbarike Izhi), has distributed educational materials to schools, 50 laptops to ICT trainees, and ₦200,000 cash grants each to 50 small-scale business owners across the constituency.

The distribution was held at Nkaliki, the headquarters of Abakaliki LGA, during an empowerment programme that also featured the celebration of the FON Movement in Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency.

Speaking at the event, Uguru described education as “the foundation of societal development and the strongest pillar upon which every progressive society is built,” stressing that investing in children secures the future of communities.

A senior police officer, Nkeiruka Nwode, has strongly criticized media reports linking her to an alleged leaked audio which talked about a detained suspect in an ongoing trial, Nnamdi Emeh.

Mr Emeh remains in prison custody after he was charged for various crimes including alleged fraudulent withdrawal of millions from the account of one Mr Chibuike Ekwueme and defamation.

The said report alleged that Nwode, a Chief Superintendent of Police, was the voice heard in the controversial recording.

In a swift reaction, CSP Nwode dismissed the report as misleading and accused the media outlet of presenting a one-sided narrative without seeking her response.

She described the publication as an attempt to distort facts and damage her professional reputation.

According to her statement, the individual referenced in the report, Nnamdi Daniel Emeh, is allegedly involved in misconduct, including financial impropriety and defamation.

She further claimed that Emeh had boasted about deliberately attempting to frustrate her professional duties.

Nwode, the spokesperson of Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos maintained that her actions throughout the matter were guided strictly by professionalism, accountability, and adherence to the rule of law.

She emphasized that any investigative steps she took were aimed at tracing funds and ensuring justice, rather than for personal benefit.

She also alleged that the situation surrounding the leaked audio is part of a broader attempt at blackmail, asserting that such tactics are often employed when “truth threatens corruption.”

“I will not be intimidated, and I will not bow to attempts to rewrite facts or discredit professionalism,” she stated, adding that transparency and integrity remain central to her conduct", she said.

2027:Edda group urges Nwifuru to zone Reps Seat, cites 20-year Afikpo dominance


A socio-political organisation, the Edda Grassroots Movement for FON, has appealed to Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, to zone the Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives to Edda Local Government Area ahead of the 2027 general elections.


The group said its demand is anchored on the principles of equity, fairness, and inclusive governance, stressing that Afikpo LGA has held the seat continuously since 2007, nearly two decades without rotation.

In a statement issued in Abakaliki and made available to journalists, the National Coordinator of the group, Hon. Orji Patrick, argued that the prolonged dominance of Afikpo in the constituency’s political representation has created a sense of marginalisation among the people of Edda.


He noted that beyond the House of Representatives seat, Afikpo currently occupies other strategic political positions, including the office of the Deputy Governor, thereby deepening what he described as an imbalance in the distribution of political opportunities within the constituency.

“We are not asking for favour, but for fairness,” Orji said. “For over 20 years, Afikpo LGA has produced the member representing Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency. Today, they also hold key positions such as the Deputy Governor, while Edda has no representation at that level.”

The group maintained that zoning the seat to Edda would not only correct what it termed a “historical injustice,” but also strengthen grassroots participation and unity within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the area.

According to the statement, Edda is endowed with competent and loyal party members who are capable of effectively representing the constituency at the national level.

“There are credible and experienced individuals in Edda who are ready to serve. Allowing Edda to produce the next representative will energise the grassroots and consolidate support for the APC,” Orji added.

The group aligned its appeal with Governor Nwifuru’s “People’s First” agenda and the broader “Charter of Equity” principle, which emphasises fairness, balance, and inclusiveness in governance.

“We believe Your Excellency’s leadership has consistently demonstrated a commitment to justice and equitable distribution of opportunities. Zoning the House of Representatives seat to Edda is in line with this vision,” the statement read.

The Edda Grassroots Movement further urged the leadership of the APC in Ebonyi State to support the call, noting that political stability and unity within the constituency would be better sustained through a deliberate power-sharing arrangement.

To commemorate her birthday on March 13, 2026, Nwode chose a different kind of celebration — one rooted in compassion and community service. Hundreds of artisanal workers and school pupils across parts of Ebonyi State benefitted from a humanitarian outreach that delivered educational materials, school uniforms and encouragement to some of the most vulnerable members of society.

Blackmail, Allegations and a Three-Year Battle: Police Spokesperson Nwode Speaks Out


For more than three years, the name of police spokesperson Nkiru Nwode has circulated in online reports, social media posts and public accusations.

Now, the Force Headquarters Annex spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, Nwode says the story behind the controversy is very different from what many people believe.

According to Nwode, what began as a routine complaint in January 2023 eventually spiralled into a high-profile dispute involving alleged financial crime, accusations of organ harvesting and a public confrontation with activist Omoyele Sowore.

The complaint that started it all
Nwode recalled that on January 21, 2023, a lawyer, Barrister Nweke, and a woman identified as Onyinye Ekwueme walked into her office with a troubling complaint.

Two brothers — Chibuike and Tochukwu Ekwueme — had reportedly been arrested by a Joint Task Force on January 11, but their family had no information about where they were being held.

Even more alarming, the lawyer alleged that over ₦100 million was being withdrawn from the bank account of one of the detained suspects without the family’s authorisation.

Faced with the complaint, Nwode said she immediately escalated the matter to the then Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Abutu Yaro, who contacted the Anambra State Commissioner of Police at the time, Echeng Echeng.

The commissioner later confirmed that the suspects were in custody at the Rapid Response Squad facility in Awkuzu.

But that confirmation opened the door to an even more complicated investigation.

A trail of missing money
As inquiries deepened, the officer in charge of the RRS Awkuzu unit, Patrick Agbazue, revealed that suspicion had fallen on a serving corps member working in the office — Nnamdi Daniel Emeh — who was believed to have withdrawn funds from the suspect’s account.

Attempts to reach him initially failed.

When he eventually made contact through WhatsApp, Nwode said, Emeh accused Agbazue and other officers of involvement in the alleged theft but refused to appear before investigators, claiming his life was in danger.

Meanwhile, investigators traced about ₦46 million to a First Bank account belonging to a bureau de change operator in Onitsha.

The operator reportedly told police that a man he identified as a DSS officer, Paul Okorie, instructed him to receive the funds and convert them to dollars.

The money was allegedly converted into about $56,000 and delivered through Okorie’s in-law, Obiora Onyedika, a bank employee.

Onyedika was later arrested at his workplace.

According to Nwode, investigators called Okorie on the phone in his presence, during which he allegedly admitted travelling with Emeh to collect the money before later realising the funds were said to have been taken from a suspect’s account.

A court subsequently placed a “Post No Debit” restriction on Okorie’s bank accounts as investigations continued.

From investigation to controversy
While the probe was still ongoing, Nwode said she began facing what she described as coordinated media attacks designed to pressure her into abandoning the case.

Instead, she said she intensified efforts to locate the corps member at the centre of the investigation.

Eventually, she claims, those efforts took her beyond Nigeria’s borders.

“To the glory of God, I personally traced Nnamdi Emeh to the Benin Republic, arrested him, and brought him back to Nigeria to face justice,” she said.

But the controversy surrounding the case did not end there.

Organ-harvesting allegations
Years later, the matter resurfaced in public debate after activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, accused Nwode of being linked to a police-connected organ-harvesting ring.

In a statement addressed to the newly appointed Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, Sowore alleged that Nwode conspired with judicial officials to imprison Emeh after he exposed the alleged crime.

The activist called for an investigation and for what he described as a “sham prosecution” to be discontinued.

“The truth is documented”
Responding to the claims, Nwode insists the allegations are baseless.

According to her, the Nigeria Police Force carried out a full investigation into the organ-harvesting claims in 2023 and found no evidence to support them.

“The outcome clearly established that there was no confirmed evidence of organ harvesting and no evidence linking me to any misconduct,” she said.

She also described it as unfair that her photograph was repeatedly used alongside that of the accuser, saying the allegations had caused reputational damage to her and distress to her family.

“I deserve a medal”
Despite the controversy, Nwode says she remains proud of how she handled the case.

“If I had collected money and refused to pursue the matter, nobody would be blackmailing me today,” she said.

Instead of criticism, she believes the work she did should be recognised.

“I deserve a medal and not blackmail.”

For Nwode, the episode has become a personal example of the pressures faced by public officials — particularly women — who insist on pursuing accountability.

And despite the dispute with Sowore, she says she holds no personal grudge.

“I trust that fairness and truth will always prevail,” she said.

Uzoma hails judiciary for acquitting Abba Khari over drug related allegations



The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to His Imperial Majesty, Ooni of Ife on South East Matters, Hon. Ani Uzoma, has hailed the Federal High Court Abuja for acquitting and discharging a senior police officer, Abba Khari, over alleged case of drug peddling.

A Federal High Court in Abuja had on the 5th of March discharged and acquitted Kyari and 9 others.

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court Abuja had on his ruling averred that the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency was unable to prove their allegations of drug related crimes against Abba Kyari.


Reacting to the ruling, Hon. Ani described it as a welcome development.

In a statement he issued in Abuja, Ani congratulated Mr. Kyari on his freedom and urged him out the ugly experiences behind him and continue to work for the progress of the nation.
