PoliticsRe: Dubai Is Beautiful, Yet A Den Of Injustice And Subtle Intolerance by davodyguy(op): 11:56am On Nov 24, 2018
The Arabs are extremely wicked people.
We can see what Saudi Arabia is doing to her citizen, see why Qatar has been isolated by the world and now see the wickedness in UAE, Dubai.

The Arabs can kill anyone, so be extremely careful when you visit UAE. See what the ruler of UAE did to his two daughters

The UAE is as vicious with its own citizens as it is with foreigners, as the case of Sheikha Latifa, the daughter of Dubai’s ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, shows. Earlier this year she came to us for help as she tried to escape Dubai, citing years of abuse and torture in the royal palace, and got as far as Indian coastal waters before UAE troops violently kidnapped her and took her back to Dubai. She hasn’t been seen since.

Her story, and that of the kidnap of her sister Sheikha Shamsa in the UK, will feature in a BBC2 documentary on 6 December. It confirms that we’re dealing with a vicious regime acting with impunity, similar to that in Saudi Arabia but with better PR. Getting rid of that regime will not happen overnight, but the cases of Latifa, Hedges, me and many others dictate that we should give the UAE no support, and the British government should take the hardest possible line in both its advice to UK nationals and its dealing with the Emirates
Ruler of Dubai may have killed his own daughter.

The funny aspect is that Both the US and Britain whose citizens are worst affected are playing politics of oil and favour.

Terrible world

Please read this carefully, so when next you travel to Dubai (UAE) you'll not pass your boundary. As much as you would find them friendly, you'll also find this very wicked act in them, especially their prison officials. Kirikiri prison is far better than Dubai Prison

The case of the British academic Matthew Hedges, like mine, shows the British government must take a much harder line

She joins a long list of victims and their families who assumed the British government would go into bat for them, only to be sorely disappointed.

The plight of Hedges, who was convicted of spying and given a life prison sentence, evokes my own experience. When I was lured to Dubai in 2014 and thrown into prison without charge, I eagerly awaited the first visit of officials from the British embassy. Yet all I got were two non-Brits hired by a diplomatic staffing agency, and all they said they could do was ensure I was being treated reasonably and getting adequate food.

There was no attempt to protest about the disregard of all basic judicial principles. They even failed by their own remit, as they didn’t get me the food I needed (I’d just had stomach surgery).

The conditions I was kept in were, at times, appalling. There were beatings, I was raped and at one stage a guard said to me, “Be careful, British prisoners die here.” It was hot, there was overcrowding, and access to lawyers and other personal representatives was often limited to a few minutes a week, with a guard listening in.

In my 22 months’ incarceration, I had one humane head of prison, but he was quickly demoted to a lesser jail after trumped-up charges were levelled alleging he had taken bribes. The authorities clearly don’t want prisoners to be treated humanely.

Others have had the same experience of Gulf justice, along with the advice from the British embassy that it would be unwise to go public as this would only antagonise the Emiratis.

When I got out and started campaigning to help others held in Dubai, we knocked that on the head. High-profile cases such those of Jamie Harron, Billy Barclay and Ellie Holman were ultimately successful because we did go public, and in a way that threatened Dubai’s reputation as a tourism destination. Harron and Barclay were “pardoned” for crimes they didn’t commit, which sticks in the craw, but at least we got them out.

It was clear the embassy’s credo was that the plight of a few individuals shouldn’t be allowed to hamper the UK’s good trading relations with the UAE, but the Hedges case suggests the government’s appeasement has achieved nothing. Publicity isn’t an issue here – this is now a global story – but the Emiratis still refuse to be embarrassed into releasing Hedges – conceding only on Friday that they were considering the family’s appeal for

In fairness, Jeremy Hunt is saying all the right things. It’s refreshing to hear Britain’s top diplomat talking tough, though where it will lead to depends on how much he’s willing to back up his words with deeds.

There are four things the government should be doing.

First, revise its travel advice. The UAE’s economy depends heavily on tourism, but people who go there have no idea that if they fall foul of the law they can’t rely on internationally accepted norms of justice. You sup with the devil when you go to the Emirates, and the foreign office should make this clear. (That includes urging Emirates airline to warn passengers that if they drink on a flight they could easily be arrested when they land in Dubai.)

Second, revise its investment guidance. The UK still encourages firms to invest in Emirati companies with the implicit assumption that they face fair business conditions. Again, the judicial situation makes it a highly risky country to do business with.

Third, suspend Britain’s extradition treaty with the UAE. British judges have made a succession of judgments confirming that UK nationals won’t get a fair trial in the UAE, yet we still have an extradition treaty under which the Emirates apply to get people they don’t like sent to face show trials, such as the five-minute Hedges hearing this week. And because we give people fair trials here, extradition requests cost the British taxpayer millions.

Fourth, stop British judges from taking retirement postings in the UAE. It is little appreciated that when British judges retire they can pick up lucrative part-time work in the Dubai finance courts, yet they merely reinforce the unjust Dubai legal system by giving it a respectability it doesn’t deserve.

Of one thing we can be sure: the treatment of Hedges and others is not anti-British.

Getting rid of that regime will not happen overnight, but the cases of Latifa, Hedges, me and many others dictate that we should give the UAE no support, and the British government should take the hardest possible line in both its advice to UK nationals and its dealings with the Emiratis.

(CNN) — The term "money laundering" was never more appropriate than this week, when Dutch police found around $400,000 stuffed inside the drum of a washing machine.

A man present in the house during Monday's raid was arrested on suspicion of -- yes, you've guessed it -- money laundering.

Authorities were checking for unregistered residents in western Amsterdam when they found the load.

"The municipal administration revealed that no one lived at the address," the police told CNN in a statement. "When the police did a search through the house they found €350,000 hidden in the washing machine."

The police also confiscated several mobile phones, a firearm and a money-counting machine during the raid. The suspect, who is 24 years old, has not been named.
The police news release included a picture of bundles of €20 and €50 bills crammed into the washing machine.

They said in a statement that the raid was part of an investigation into "housing fraud, money laundering and other [signs] of crime."

I don't understand what you meant by that statement! Do Nigerians not vote for NRC (Muslim-Christian) ticket? Has INEC actually declared the winner of that election? If Abiola was the winner, there must be a figure somewhere. And indeed the other party must also have a total votes cast.

We always do things upside down in this country. How do we know if NRC weren't the winner? Are we INEC? INEC need to give us figures for that June 12 election, otherwise, all we are doing is just speculating.

Even, the FG erred to have declared and recognized Abiola the winner of that election without first summoning INEC to declare the winner and announce the total votes cast.

While, our speculations and assumptions may be correct, there is no credible fact to it. Unless INEC declares the total votes cast and announce the actual winner. We may be surprised otherwise!
When were you born? Your post depicts you're a kid.
In 1993 there was no election umpire called INEC.
2. Professor Humphrey Nwosu came out publicly to say as the chairman of of the electoral body MKO Abiola won the election, but they called him to stop the announcement of the results. Before the returning officer announces results, votes would have been collated, sorted and counted, they'll only be announcing state by state like Jega did on 31st of March, 2015.

Is Dubai a country or a city?

The primary answer to this question is Dubai is NOT a Country, but is an Emirate. Dubai is just a part of the United Arab Emirates and it is the most populated emirate in UAE.

There are Seven Emirates in the UAE. They are;

1. Abu Dhabi (Capital of UAE)

2. Dubai

3. Sharjah

4. Ajman

5. Ras Al Khaimah

6. Fujairah

7. Umm Al Quwain

Note that Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates and it is NOT Dubai.

All the Emirates have their respective rulers. The rulers of these emirates elect the ruler of Abu Dhabi as the President of UAE and the ruler of Dubai as the Prime Minister of UAE.

What is the capital of Canada ?
It moved to Quebec City from 1852 to 1856, then Toronto for one year (1858) before returning to Quebec City from 1859 to 1866. In 1857, Queen Victoria chose Ottawa as the permanent capital of the Province of Canada, initiating construction of Canada's first parliament buildings, on Parliament Hill.

Okada Activities were banned since 2012 by Fashola Administration

Try Ikoyi, VI and Lekki if you'll find a single commercial motorcyclist on the road
autojosh:
In 2017, Lagos State Government released hundreds of routes where motorcycles and tricycles (aka Okada and Keke) are banned.

The list includes major highways, bridges, etc in Lagos state.

This decision was due to an outrage as a result of the menace of commercial motorcycles popularly referred to as “Okada’’ and their involvement in the number of traffic fatalities,

For instance in 2013, NAN investigations revealed that Lagos recorded 13,398 road accidents with deaths from motorcycle-related accidents accounting for 148.

Okada recorded 6,131 accidents in 15 months between 2013 and 2015.

Hundreds of users who survived the crashes were either maimed or left with permanent disabilities.

Some had been bedridden for several years or months at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi in Lagos, a facility for the treatment bone diseases and victims of automobile and motorcycles accidents.

According to a report by NAN, in 2013, there were 452 motorcycle accidents in the state involving 273 males and 179 females.

It also shows that in 2014, there were 291 motorcycle accidents that involved 168 males and 123 females.

Comparatively between 2013 and 2014, the rate of motorcycle accidents reduced by 35.6 per cent following a partial ban slammed on the operators by the Babatunde Fashola administration after signing into law the State Traffic Bill on Aug. 2, 2012.

All these informed Ambode’s decision to effect the ban on Okada activities on major highways, bridges and roads.

However, recently, there appears to be a return of Okada activities on major roads, highways and bridges in Lagos as can be seen in the photos below.

Or has the ban on Okada activities been lifted?

Believe it or not, this thread would shock a lot of people as i was shocked.

There are some cities that are very popular in some countries that we think they're the national capitals, whereas they're not.

Lets Start.

1. Dubai: Dubai is not a country as many people might believe. You hear people say "I'm going to Dubai'.
Dubai is a city in a country called UAE (United Arab Emirates) The capital of UAE is not Dubai, rather it is Abu Dhabi
Dubai is the largest city not a country or capital.

2. Johannesburg: Nigeria played South Africa last Saturday and i'm sure a lot of Nigerians would think Johannesburg is the capital.
Interestingly, South Africa has three capital cities, none of which are "Jo'Burg". Divided by branch of government, the capitals are: capital of the judiciary is Bloemfontein, capital of the administrative branch is Pretoria with Cape Town acting as the country's legislative capital.

3. Sydney: Since the Olympics in year 2000 (Sydney 2000) A lot of people think Sydney is the capital of Australia. It is not. Iconic though its harbor and opera house may be, it doesn't get star billing. Canberra, which is just a few years away from its centennial celebration, is actually capital of the land. It is not Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide.

4. Munich/Frankfurt: Many Nigerians would know Munich and Bayern Munich or 1860 Munich, likewise Frankfurt when JJ Okocha played in Germany. Well the Capital of Germany is Berlin.

5. Istanbul, Turkey: It may have served as capital to ancient Romans and Ottomans, but that designation is long gone for Istanbul. Ankara, a city that is perhaps most famous for its angora-producing goats, is the capital. Ankara is not the same as Aso Ebi ooo grin Many people might think the capital is 'Galatasaray' or Fenerbahçe

6. Switzerland: This country serves as HQ for many world Organizations like the UN, UNESCO etc. The capital is not Geneva, Neither this nor Zurich serve as this precise country's capital. The picturesque, tranquil, UNESCO-recognized town of Bern holds this honor. Roger Federer is from Basle, but not the capital.

7. Brazil: How many of you think the capital of Brazil is Rio? It's fun, exciting and has something for everyone, but that still doesn't make it Brazil's capital. While the city famous for the carnival used to be the capital, Brasilia now takes that position, not even São Paulo

8. Casablanca: Football fans are familiar with Raja Casablanca and tourists are familiar with Fez or Marrakesh. Not only is Casablanca not the capital of Morocco, neither are the other two top contenders, Fez or Marrakesh. Peaceful and culture-rich Rabat serves as this North African country's capital.

9. USA: In Trump's America, the Capital is not Las Vegas, California, Chicago, Florida or New York City. It is Washington DC

10. Spain: Many may think it is Barcelona, since Lionel Messi plays there. Capital is actually Madrid.

11. Côte d'Ivoire: In drogba's country, the capital is not Abidjan. It is Yamoussoukro

12. Italy: Capital is Rome not Milan or Juventus lol

13. Nigeria: Capital is Abuja not Lagos or Aba grin grin

14. State of Palestine: Capital is actually East Jerusalem and not Gaza City
