My recent comment was specific for only that poster. Situations differ.
Yes, getting a second program is very easy, you can even change schools.
One thing I have realized is, sometimes, having 2 certificates from 2 different programs gives you options.
For example, first 8 months program, you study Logistics and Supply chain management and then you go for a second program, another 8 months, in Business Analysis. When you graduate, you can search for jobs in 2 different fields, which gives you better chances in the job market.
It simply means you can look for jobs in Logistics, supply chain, transportation, supply chain analyst roles, business analyst, business architect, business intelligence, Agile and Scrum roles, data analyst, even project management roles (Business analysis and project management are similar) and so forth.
You can see the multitude of options studying 2 different programs has availed you. It also gives you an opportunity to specialize in a specific industry/field while also having broad knowledge in some other fields.
Also, people take 2 programs so that it avails them the opportunity to switch to another sector. Coming to Canada, career progression is important but when you are inside Canada, that does not count.
I have been in Canada for more than 20 months and I have seen people switch between programs that are not similar inside Canada without problems. As a matter of fact, this happens a lot in colleges. Na normal level for colleges. Reason why I always say, when people get to Canada, they will get clarity
The only challenge is, you will need to apply for another study permit while inside Canada.
Also, there is a myth that Visa officers rarely give people 1 year visa from Nigeria to Canada. I have seen people get 1 year visa's, I am only bringing your attention to what people say.
Just think about your long term goals and be strategic. I wish you all the best. thank you so much for this break down. I am grateful |
I have seen so many people give you wonderful suggestions and I completely agree with all they have told you.
Just to add, you can consider Business analysis, even if it is a 1 year PGC and close to graduation, you can try applying for jobs such as customer service analysts, customer support analyst, Global service support analyst and so forth.
If you want 3 years PGWP, you can apply for another 1 year PGC in Data analysis/science.
In these days of organizations employing individuals with T shaped skills, having a combination of Business and Data analysis skills alongside your previous experience in customer service is a big advantage for you.
Most people always advise students to go for 16/24 months program so that they can get 3 years PGWP. This will give them enough time to apply for PR. Honestly, 1 year goes by so fast In Canada. I am tempted to say time abroad goes faster than the one in Nigeria. This does not mean I have not seen people finish 1 year degree programs, get 1 year PGWP and then get their PR. I will give you an example of two different situations. Sir, thank you, in respect to the bolded. Would it be wise to go for a year program, and if so, how easily will it be enrolling for another one year program while there? Thank you |

JustMellow: Hello Dayjeee,
If the reasons you gave are the motivating factors for wanting to do a Diploma program, it will be well-advised you opt for PGD/C or Post Baccalaureate Diploma program if Master isn't an option. I think it will be better if your approach of reasoning comes logically outside what you gave.
All the best alright thanks sir |

Nastan: I am afraid the reason for your choice of programme is lame and could amount to fruitless effort.
I will suggest you apply for GDP/C. You can check Cape Breton University (Post-Baccalareate Diploma in Business Analytics, Business Management and Supply Chain Management).
Good luck! thank you sir. Noted |

Anon123: For the bolded, you will have issues when it gets to applying for visa. Imagine a VO sees your BSc certificate and then sees you have an admission for a diploma. Theres no career/academic progression there. Thats an easy denial "Purpose of visit". I will encourage you to stick with a PGC. okay, can you assist with a 2years PGD/C program that a customer service officer in a financial institution can do that will show career progression? Thank you |
Travel › Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 17 by dayjeee(m): 9:50am On Aug 15, 2020 |
JustMellow: Hello Dayjeee,
If there is no clear reason or intention on why you chose a Diploma ahead of a Master or PGD/C after a B.sc, then stay clear. Its important to be able to demonstrate that the program choice is a progression whether a Diploma, Advance Diploma, PGD/C, Master or Ph.D.
Settling for a program that doesn't show progression isn't impossible to secure a visa with it but the chances maybe slim and requires furnishing the VO with satisfactory reasons and proven that you're a genuine student.
If you decide to go for a Management course, endeavour that you have at least some exposure or experience. This way, you can be able to make a case. If you understand your situation and have the know-how of what the Diploma program entails and its benefits, you may succeed. If not, PGD/C or a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma may just be your best bet outside Master.
All the best Thank you sir. The reason why I decided I want to go for the diploma course is because of the fee, its cheaper than PGD/C Secondly, most of the PGD/C i have seen are 1year program, and I want a 2year program, in order to get 2 to 3 years PGWP, and that's is what most diploma offer. The reason I wanted to go for management related courses is because it will be a little bit easier to secure a job in a qualified NOC if i want to apply for PR. Moreso, I have more than 2 years work experience as a CSO in a financial institution. I will still appreciate your contribution and direction. Thank you |

JustMellow: Hello Dayjeee,
You should check Public Administration or Management courses. Try to also expand your search on Google.
All the best Thank you for your input sir. Will Going for ordinary diploma in mgt course raise red flag as per career progression? Since i dont have a background in mgt, is a must i do Pgd or i can do ordinary diploma? |

Lekiboboe: Normally with your 2.1, a Masters should be the next line of action for u, but your work experience (registered business & customer care service provider in a financial institution) is a cogent reason you can explain to a VISA OFFICER (in ur SOP) if its a Business Related PGD/PG. Cert u are going for.
For PGD/PGC in International Business Management(IBM) or PGD/PGC in Global Business Management (GBM)
Visit the link below for schools offering PGC in IBM https://www.ontariocolleges.ca/en/programs/search?q=International%20Business%20Management&page=0&by%5BProgramCredentialEnglish%5D%5B0%5D=Graduate%20Certificate
Visit the link below for schools offering PGC in GBM https://www.ontariocolleges.ca/en/programs/search?q=Global%20Business%20Management&page=0&by%5BProgramCredentialEnglish%5D%5B0%5D=Graduate%20Certificate
Check LAMBTON College as well for their PGD/PGC Business program
and also,
its advisable for u to write a Cover letter (addressed to that department in the sch.) as part of the supporting documents for ur admission application, in which u will talk about why u are going for IBM/GBM instead of a History & Int'l relation related program, this is where u will now explain urself that "u have a registered business u do with so so years/months of experience, and u would need more knowledge for your business to get a global recognition, blah blah and be able to do business beyond borders",and also in the cover letter mention like 3-4 courses/subjects u will be doing in that program. also u need an Updated Resume or CV in which your Business name , type of business , when u started etc. should be there
In Summary, know that, ur transcript says more about your History & Int'l relations degree, so its your cover letter and ur Updated Resume/CV the admission committee of the college will likely dwell more on in order to make a decision if u will be given the admission or not.
All da best!!! Thank you sir. I appreciate |
