PoliticsRe: How World Leaders Plotted Jonathan's Defeat by dayodare490: 5:46pm On Apr 07, 2015
theorbiters:
OUTGOING President Goodluck Jonathan lost his re-election bid several weeks before the March 28 poll to a web of plots hatched at home and honed abroad, Saturday Tribune has reliably learnt.

Information also in possession of Saturday Tribune revealed a last-minute contest between forces that wanted him to bow out and those that wanted him to hold out for as long as necessary even when it was evident that the news from the field pointed at a possible defeat.
It was learnt that as of 5.00 p.m. on Tuesday, hawks around the president were still at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, piling pressure on him not to concede defeat.

Those working on him to concede and bow out, reportedly led by a former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, were also said to have stayed put in the same Presidential Villa, persuading him that it was the most honourable way to go since it was clear that figures from the field were not in his favour.

The drama in the Presidential Villa was also said to be closely monitored by combined international forces that had concluded on post-Jonathan presidency, reportedly led by the United States of America and the United Kingdom.

One of those around the president persuading him to stay put was said to be a General in the army from a not-too-core Northern state, reportedly assuring him that the alleged irregularities in the North, underage voters, among other issues, which were beamed live by a national television station and shown on the Cable News Network (CNN) would be enough ground for him to reject the outcome.

The president was also allegedly told that he would be making General Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) heroes by conceding to them, because all the good works he had done which were nearing fruition would blossom during their reign and would count as their achievements.

He reportedly told them that no matter how long he stayed in office, he would still leave one day and since crisis was certain to herald his opposition to the outcome, he would be reneging on his promise that no Nigerian blood would be worth his political ambition.

Convinced that it was the way to go, the president reportedly took “his own” by surprise by making the now-famous phone call to Buhari without telling them, although they were present at the president’s abode.

He was also said to have played a fast one on the hawks by making the call before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Buhari as the winner, following his assessment of the figures available to him, while those pressurising him to hang on reportedly thought the concession would be after the announcement by the electoral body as is usually the practice.

The western world, according to available information, keyed into the Buhari presidency project months before the election and the refusal to sell arms to Nigeria to fight the Boko Haram insurgency by Washington was said to be mainly predicated on the likelihood of Jonathan’s administration using same to quell possible civil disobedience if he manipulated the results to remain in power.

With political forces in the nation led by former President Olusegun Obasanjo reportedly concluded on getting him out at all cost, the western world, particularly the United States and the United Kingdom, were said to have been persuaded into the project on two main planks; corruption and insecurity.

Settled that Jonathan’s administration had been underwhelming in performance in those two critical areas and convinced that the incumbent was bent on retaining his job, the international coalition allegedly undermined his administration as much as possible, with allies elsewhere, including Africa, also allegedly brought into the Jonathan-must-go project.

A source pointed at two main happenings in the course of the election to show how deeply the international community was involved, while making the outgoing president to be at ease, despite the rug being pulled off his feet.

The US and the UK had been at the forefront of peace pacts across the nation, starting with Jonathan and Buhari in what came to be known as Abuja Peace Accord, with Jonathan’s government having to react angrily at a point at the perceived temerity with which top diplomats from the western world were handling peace pacts and activities regarding the electoral process.

“They almost became a parallel government in Nigeria. That is what you get when a leader is too pacifist,” a source in the government said.

The unprecedented joint statement by the US Secretary of State, John Kerry and British Foreign Secretary, Philip Hammond, overtly accusing Jonathan’s camp of moves to tamper with the incoming results of the presidential election was seen as the final move by them to show the side they were on in the contest.

The government source noted that APC was always calling on the international community to wade in when accusing Jonathan’s government of plots to manipulate the elections, because an understanding existed between them after Buhari’s appearance at Chatham House and his famous interview with the CNN.

After the field job was done and figures confirmed Jonathan’s loss, those behind the plot to ease him out and save the country from chaos were said to have moved to the last stage in the presidential contest, which was to persuade him to accept defeat, since his refusal of same could ignite the South-South and South-East and possible bloody attacks on Northerners in such states.
A predictable reprisal in the North was projected as possible fulfilment of the feared break-up. The oil interests of those western nations in the Niger-Delta also reportedly necessitated a negotiated peaceful exit for him by persuading him to accept defeat and assurance obtained from Buhari that Jonathan would face no harassment out of office.
Having fulfilled his own part, Buhari had also fulfilled his with public pronouncement that Jonathan had nothing to fear under his administration, while engaging in peace preachment to his supporters.

Apart from obtaining assurance from Buhari, the western world would also lead in global praise of Jonathan, aimed at attenuating the pains of making the wrong history of being the first defeated incumbent, while leading opposition figures were also said to be under firm instruction not to attack him in any ways until he steps down on May 29.

The US and UK were particularly said to have completely bought into the anti-Jonathan project following his decision to turn to Russia for purchase of arms, with a diplomat in foreign service saying that it would have been better for Jonathan to completely move over to Russia’s side instead of playing in the middle.
According to him, “whoever advised him to purchase arms from Russia when a real war was on with the United States misled the president. You don’t even do that during the Cold War, let alone during this “Hot War.” There was no way US intelligence circle would forgive a big nation like Nigeria making such diplomatic faux pas.

“These security experts have serious leverage over American presidents. Regardless of any friendship that could be between (American president, Barack) Obama and Jonathan, when such security goons say it is time for a leader of a nation to go, American presidents hardly say no and, obviously, Jonathan had no serious pact with (Russian president, Vladimir) Putin, beyond buying arms.”

Since the presidential election result was announced, President Obama had issued about three press statements on the outcome, Jonathan’s concession and the need for the two leaders to keep preaching peace to their supporters as well as asking that finest democratic ideals should be upheld in the conduct of the April 11 governorship election.

A government source explained that Obama’s unusual interest in the governorship election was borne out of fears that Jonathan might take his frustration of loss out on the process and tamper with it in a way to give his party, which would be in opposition from May 29, an edge in governorship spread by winning as many states as possible.

In days ahead, it was gathered that beyond the phone calls, Jonathan may be visiting the United States as a special guest of Obama which, an insider said, is aimed at retaining him as the face of peace offering to the Niger-Delta, which is feared could become the breeding ground for fifth columnists that would make the nation’s economy unmanageable for Buhari.

PoliticsRe: Ohanaeze gives Oba of Lagos 48 hours to withdraw threat to Igbos by dayodare490: 10:06pm On Apr 06, 2015
ozoigbondu:
The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), the youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex socio-cultural organisation of Ndigbo, has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Oba of Lagos, Alhaji Rilwan Akiolu, to “retract and unconditionally apologise to Ndigbo” over his alleged death threat to Ndigbo living in Lagos should they fail to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Akinwumi Ambode, on April 11.

Apart from positing that democracy confers on the electorate, the freedom of choice, OYC said it considered the comments credited to Akiolu as “a despicable insult on the Igbo nation, home and abroad, least expected of a royal father in the rank of Oba of Lagos.”

The group called on security agencies to invite the Oba for questioning because of the grave dangers his current posture portends while lambasted the monarch for employing crude arm-twisting, obtaining by tricks tactics.

The monarch had reportedly threatened to make life unbearable for the Igbos in Lagos if they sabotage efforts being made to ensure that Ambode emerges as the next governor of the state.

Akiolu was said to have summoned all the Eze-Ndigbo in Lagos State to his palace yesterday and told them: “On Saturday, if anyone of you goes against Ambode, who I picked, that is your end. If it does not happen within seven days, just know that I am a bastard and it is not my father who gave birth to me.

“By the grace of God, I am the owner of Lagos for the time being. On Saturday, if anyone of you, I swear in the name of God, goes against my wish that Ambode will be the next governor of Lagos State, the person is going to die inside this water.

“For the Igbo and others in Lagos, they should go where the Oba of Lagos heads to. When they were coming to the state, they did not come with all their houses. But now, they have properties in the state. So they must do my bidding. And that is the bidding of the ancestors of Lagos and God.

“I am not ready to beg you. Nobody knew how I picked Ambode. Jimi is my blood relation and I told him that he could never be governor in Lagos for now. I am not begging anybody, but what you people cannot do in Onitsha, Aba or anywhere you cannot do it here.”

Reacting to the monarch’s outburst, OYC, in a statement issued this afternoon in Umuahia and endorsed by its National President, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, warned that “Igbo youths will not take this insult lightly, and unless he apologises within 48 hours he should know he is courting our wrath.”

OYC further warned that should anything happen to Ndigbo or their business interests in Lagos in the event of APC losing the Lagos governorship race, the Oba should be held responsible.

“Inasmuch as we do not want to get involved in Lagos politics, we want to sound a note of warning that no Igbo should be vilified or persecuted for his or her electoral choice in Lagos or any part of Nigeria,” the group said.

“Every Nigerian has the constitutional right to reside in any part of the country and participate in the electoral process based on one’s convictions, and electoral choice is not a crime,” it added.

Isiguzoro said “nobody no matter what he thinks he is, has the right to command Ndigbo anywhere on who to vote for in a democratic setting.”

He said that the unprintable comments credited to the Oba had only revealed his innate hatred for Ndigbo.

The Oba, according to him, “should be reminded that the economy of Lagos will collapse should Ndigbo decide to pull their investments from the commercial city.”

He said that “Ndigbo have remained the most persecuted , hated and marginalised tribe in Nigeria , yet the most enterprising and highest contributors to the growth of its economy, peace and unity.”

OYC asserted that the Igbo race needs commendation and not hatred for their ingenuity, versatility and presence in every part of the country, adding that God has destined Ndigbo to prosper in any part of the world, even in hostile environments.

The group, therefore, encouraged Ndigbo in Lagos and elsewhere to vote according to their conscience in the forthcoming polls without fear of intimidation.

PoliticsRe: Whoever Wants To Remove Me Will First Have To Impeach God — Fayose by dayodare490: 9:53pm On Apr 06, 2015
emusmith:
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has dismissed the purported impeachment notice posted online by the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers in the State House of Assembly, saying he was yet to be served any impeachment notice.

Fayose, while speaking at a audience participatory programme; “Meet Your Governor” aired on the State Television, EKTV, Ekiti Radio, Progress FM and NTA, Ado Ekiti today.
He described those plotting his impeachment as the same enemies of Ekiti State that plotted his exit from office in 2006.

“Nobody served me any impeachment notice. I only saw the notice online like every other person.”
The governor, who described himself as an Israelite said; “I’m like Israel that is in the midst of enemies but will always prevail. Whoever wants to remove me will first have to impeach God.”

He said the APC people were trying to get at him because he wholeheartedly supported President Goodluck Jonathan’s reelection bid.
“They are doing all these just to get at me because of my support for President Jonathan and I have no regret for supporting the president.

“Let me say it again, I have not been served any impeachment notice. The House of Assembly is also on recess and Dr Adewale Omirin is not the speaker of the State House of Assembly.
“Omirin is in court, challenging his impeachment and he can’t be challenging his impeachment in court and at the same time laying claim to being Speaker,” he said.

While urging the APC to accept defeat as done by President Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP, Governor Fayose said; “By the power of God, they lost 16 – 0 on June 21, 2014, they lost 16 – 0 again on March 28, they will lose 26 – 0 on Saturday, April 11.”

That means Fayose's post is what make God a God. Does that mean that if fayoso loses out God will also lose out? If so, it means we have known God's weak points. Hello Jonathan, let remove fayose so authomatically we can overthrow God's supremacy. Since God's power depends on these hell bound let send him and his God packing

"I am a Yoruba man. Let us start from there. the whole South is indeed shortsighted. When I talk about the South, that includes SW,SS, SE. It is very important, that we realize that the North Hausa/Fulani are very smart and broad picturistic minded people, who have exerted their harmonious political dominance on the South for more than forty years. The South in question has shown how gullible she is in accepting the ideology of "One Nigeria" despite the glaring ethnicity that has pervaded the country. The fact that each ethnic group in Nigeria has her own political community cannot be emphasized.

The various ethnic groups have also glaring cultural differences so profound that you won't help but wonder why there isn't any push by these ethnic groups to secede from the geo-political frame work called Nigeria. This is because if we want to be honest with ourselves we can see that the Northern Nigeria while in power has an overreaching tendency to marginalize Southerners especially Christians whom they view as "infidels". Isn't it appropriate then that we come to terms with reality by saying the cultural differences of the various ethnic groups and their political ideologies that differ does make an argument for the seceding of these ethnic groups as they mark their territories or boundaries as allowed by the majority all within the confines of the right to self determination as procured by democracy. Thus, it is necessary that we understand that some ethnic groups are being over exploited by others all in the guise of Federalism.

The South is particularly exploited by the North that seems to have huge interest in the Crude Oil resource located in the South. One may then wonder what glue holds Nigeria together , I mean what glue that holds the North and South together, the appropriate response is Crude Oil. Thus, the North's reliance on Crude Oil money has continually made them shout one Nigeria. Don't be surprised that the day the North discovers oil in Kano or Kaduna, she will be the one clamoring for secession. In the face of all these deceits, it is a shame and disgrace that the South lost the presidential powers in 2015, because of her inability to unite and strategize. Hence, they should not complain to the world when the Slave - Master relationship of the South and North continues in retrospect.

"CHANGE", a very powerful word indeed. Who doesn't desire positive "CHANGE". However, if this "CHANGE" masks an agenda of marginalization and exploitation or this "CHANGE" in question is driven by the quest to retain power by a particular ethnic group or this "CHANGE" has been backed up by covertly carried out negative events that scuffle democracy, then it is no longer deserving to be called "CHANGE", hence better called " EVIL MANIPULATION".

The fact is that the Union of the Northern and Southern protectorates of Nigeria rests upon public opinion, and can never be cemented by the blood of its citizens shed in the Nigerian civil war of 1967 - 1970. If it can not live in the affections of the people, it must one day perish. The federal Government of Nigeria possesses many means of preserving it by conciliation, but the sword was not placed in their hand to preserve it by force. We the "South" must secede from the political community called "Nigeria".

President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Ayo Oritsejafor, has called on Nigerians to embrace peace, love and forgiveness for one another.

He also prayed for peace for the incoming administration of General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) “with optimism that Nigeria will witness peace and progress under his administration.”

The CAN President said, “Dear brothers and sisters, Christ died and rose once for all and for everyone; but the power of the resurrection, this passover from slavery to evil, to the freedom of goodness, must be accomplished in every age and in our nation.

According to him, the need for peace that President Goodluck Jonathan demonstrated by conceding defeat to Buhari in the recently held presidential elections should be the point of reference for all our political leaders in the coming governorship and state assemblies elections.

Peace for Nigeria is what I bring to you in this Easter celebration; may unity and stability be restored permanently in Nigeria. I also pray for peace for the incoming administration led by retired Major General Muhammadu Buhari with optimism that Nigeria will witness peace and progress under his administration,

“May the risen Lord, the conqueror of sin and death, be a support to you all, especially to the weakest and neediest. Thank you for your support to our leaders and on behalf of my family I wish you a wonderful Easter celebrations,” Oritsejafor said.

PoliticsRe: Fayose's Impeachment-police, DSS Restore Ekiti APC Speaker's Security by dayodare490: 11:39pm On Apr 05, 2015
expressglory:
In a sudden twist of fate, the Police authorities have directed that the full security details of the factional Speaker of the Ekiti state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Adewale Omirin, be restored with immediate effect

The development follows in the heels of the restoration of the State Security (DSS) personnel attached to Omirin earlier today (Sunday) by a directive from Abuja, a source close to the Speaker told our correspondent.
It is expected that the Omirin-led lawmakers would hold a plenary session at the Ekiti state House of Assembly on Tuesday, having adjourned after their sitting last Thursday at the same venue.
The 19 All Progressives Congress lawmakers in the Ekiti State House of Assembly had last week initiated moves that may lead to impeachment proceedings against the embattled Governor Ayodele Fayose.
The Speaker forwarded a notice of gross misconduct to the governor, a copy of the notice was also sent to his deputy, Dr. Olusola Eleka.
But Fayose in his characteristic manner said the APC lawmakers should stop acting like “jesters”, describing the purported impeachment notice as the “joke of the century.”
According to him, the script being acted by the APC is a failed one because no one, no matter how highly placed, will be allowed to test the will of the Ekiti people.
In the letter by the 19 lawmakers titled, “Re: Notice of Allegations of Gross Misconduct,” sent to Fayose, the APC lawmakers listed eight impeachable offences against the governor. These offences bordered on impunity, brigandage, stalking and other constitutional breaches.
These included alleged invasion of the House of Assembly with thugs and miscreants, instigating an unconstitutional takeover of the House by seven legislators to sit in contravention of Section 96(2) of the 1999 Constitution, and prevention of the 19 APC legislators from performing their duties with the use of security agents and armed thugs.
Other allegations listed in the notice are: sponsoring an unlawful impeachment process in the house, spending Ekiti State funds without the requisite constitutional approval in contravention of the constitution and running the government without legally constituted Executive Council in contravention of Section 192(2) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
They also accused the governor of operating an illegal 2014 budget as well as sponsoring and instigating illegal sitting of the House in contravention of Section 96(1) of the Constitution.

PoliticsRe: I Told Jonathan His Regime Had Come To An End – TB Joshua by dayodare490: 8:39pm On Apr 05, 2015
Makweembo:
On Sunday 5th April 2015, Pastor T.B. Joshua sensationally revealed how he sent a message to outgoing Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan several weeks before the historic presidential elections that pushed him out of power.

“I want to use this moment to congratulate Nigerians in our midst here,” Joshua began in a message to his multi-national congregation, televised live via Christian network Emmanuel TV.

Alluding to his prediction a week to the election that the dark cloud he saw covering Nigeria was lifting, he emphasised that a bloody ‘war’ would have ensued if not for the prompt concession of power by President Jonathan.

“Look, Nigeria wanted change – everyone was yearning for change. An attempt to stop change leads to war, to a bloodbath… If Nigeria knows what we have overcome, we would dance.”

Joshua praised Jonathan’s tenure in office, insisting that he had served his nation well despite the immense security challenges.

“I really want to salute President Jonathan. The President has served; he has done his best. It was just the season of crisis – and unfortunately he found himself at the lead in the season of crisis.”

The cleric, who is well-known for his alleged prophetic abilities, then revealed that ‘God’ spoke to him with a message for Jonathan several weeks before the general elections.

“This message should be delivered to your president, that whatever the outcome of this election, his regime has come to an end. He should accept to save the lives of millions,” he told the congregation.

Joshua claimed he called Jonathan by phone, adding that he had previously shared with him many revelations about Nigeria which eventually came to pass. “He knows Prophet T.B Joshua by the grace of God in him; he has my track record with him.”

Insisting the seriousness of the revelation was such that it had to be relayed personally, Jonathan promptly sent a close aide to meet the cleric. “It’s not a message I could say in the church because it would affect your vote,” Joshua added.

After the presidential aide had worshipped at The SCOAN during a Sunday service, Joshua said he met him and relayed the revelation that Jonathan’s regime had come to an end. “Soft landing – that is the language I sent to the president,” he told attendees.

Joshua described Jonathan as a man who ‘has a heart for God’, revealing that he even spoke with the Nigerian president shortly before his historic concession call to General Buhari.

“I said to him, ‘Your Excellency – all you need to say is thank You, Jesus, even when it seems there is nothing to be thankful for. He said, ‘Thank you, man of God’. Before I knew it, I saw the news on CNN that he had congratulated his opponent.”

Joshua described Jonathan’s exit as ‘wonderful’, cementing his legacy as a democratic champion. “A man after God’s heart is a man with a wonderful exit. The beginner is not the owner but the finisher,” he told congregants.

He prayed that people from the ‘South-South’ region in Nigeria where President Jonathan hails from would understand that ‘their son has become a hero’, adding that his actions prove the region is after a united Nigeria.

Taking a walk down memory lane, Joshua reminded congregants that he had given a similar message in 2010 to Laurent Gbagbo, the former President of Ivory Coast.

“In a vision, I saw crisis – thousands of people being killed in Ivory Coast – just because of the outcome of the election,” he explained to congregants.

After sending the message across to the then Ivorian leader, a delegation of government figures and presidential aides was dispatched to Nigeria.

“I told them that whatever the outcome of the election – whether the popular or unpopular voice of people – our President should concede. His regime has come to an end,” Joshua reminisced.

According to the cleric, Gbagbo had personally called him regarding the prediction, looking for an avenue to avert it and inviting him to Ivory Coast. Joshua insisted that nothing more could be done.

When Gbagbo refused to concede power to Alassane Ouattara in the controversial 2010 elections, a bloody onslaught ensued leading to the deaths of thousands and his eventual incarceration and public disgrace.

Joshua also reminded the faithful how he had personally warned Chief MKO Abiola that God was not backing his presidency in the ill-fated Nigerian elections of 1993 despite overwhelming public support in his favour.

He further recalled how, as a young man, he met the former Governor of Lagos State Lateef Jakande and told him that his beloved daughter was close to the grave. Both revelations came to pass.

The cleric added that his prophetic ministry is the reason he does not take sides in politics. “That is why I don’t belong to any party. All the parties are my own. I love everyone. If I belong to this party and the message of God is now against that party, how will I present it – when no one knows the mind of God? It is better I am free to deliver God’s message.”

He emphasised that material gain was not his mission, explaining that no exchange of money can be involved when it comes to spiritual matters such as prophecy.

“I am a material to be used that will not cost you any money. I am afraid to collect money from you because if I collect it, it will affect the gift and grace of God in my life.”

Joshua concluded by praying for the new government to be led by the All Progressives Congress. “Join me to pray for the new government, headed by President-Elect Buhari. Ask God to give our President a hearing heart – a heart that will listen to what the public is saying and want to know God’s opinion.”

The cleric insisted Jonathan had not sent him with the message he conveyed, adding that he had never visited Aso Rock excepting the time he was invited by Former President Sani Abacha after being wrongfully imprisoned for 10 days on the charge of drug dealing.

WAJW:
Even as the president gets ready for his final trip to Otuoke, the last trip that would have his presidential conveyance give him the final salute then turn away to serve another commander-in-chief, retrospective observations are in order.

Will the president be getting a hero's welcome in Otuoke? Dele Sobowale says no. For the people of Otuoke, Jonathan's return would be deemed premature, as it is an unhappy turn of events that has dictated his return in 2015 - four years early.

However, home is home, and when we are done with our worldly dealings, we must return home, and home - as is characteristic of it - must accept us in, irrespective of its misgivings.

Dele Sobowale describes the incumbent as a 'political undertaker,' one determined to go down with as many people from his party as possible.

He [Jonathan] has been quoted as saying, in 2011: "You have given me your assurances of support but some of you are secretly campaigning for Atiku Abubakar. I can’t stand to be humiliated by you. I am the Captain of this boat. I am not going down alone. I am going to sink this boat and go down with all that are in it." He reportedly said this in 2011, at the 55th National Executive Committee Meeting of the PDP. (Quote cited from: http://saharareporters.com/2010/12/20/pdp-primaries-atiku-jonathan’s-politics-smear)

In 2015, he makes good his promise. President Jonathan will not go down alone. "Afenifere is now in the graveyard for sure; so is OPC… Niger Delta Militants, as well as their “god-father”, Chief Edwin Clark, have a new battle on their hands," writes Sobowale.

I think I will accept with you on that. You made Mr remember pre-colonoal master's government of Yoruba kingdom, if a king known as ikeji orisa (second in command to gods) dies there used to be people called abobaku (those that were chosen to die with the king) the abobakus shared the kings joy, ejoyment, happiness ...until the day that the king dies. And after the king dies abobaku dies or kills with the king. So,if these ones share from your joy it is not bad if they share from your sorrow. Don't they want?

Then we can say one of the reasons our president failed was because he removed loyalty from patriotism but it would take someone to be loyal to his superiod before he can be patriotic to his country. Failure.

PoliticsRe: I Was In A Cage For 16 Good Years – Jonathan by dayodare490: 7:13pm On Apr 05, 2015
MediaBlog:
President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday, April 5, looked back at his years of service from being the deputy governor of his home state, Bayelsa, to when he became the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Speaking while receiving residents of the Federal Capital Territory led by Vice President Namadi Sambo who paid him Easter homage at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, President Jonathan said, “I think it is enough”, Punch reports.

The President said he had no doubt that he is the luckiest Nigerian.

He said, “For me as an individual, this Easter coincides with the time I am leaving but I always say that I am one of the luckiest Nigerians. I am yet to see somebody luckier than me.

“From 1999, I was in the hands of government for 16 years. Not just in government as a parliamentarian because if you are a Senator or House of Representatives member, you take care of yourself, you live in your own house.

“I was in a cage, being taken care of by the government. From May 29, 1999 to date; 16 good years. I think it is enough and I am happy, help me to thank God for that.

“I will continue to thank Nigerians for giving me that privilege. I became a deputy governor because Bayelsans voted for me and my governor then. I became a Vice President because Nigerians voted for Yar’Adua and myself.

“I continued in 2011 because Nigerians voted for me and Architect Namadi Sambo. I have to thank all Nigerians. Wherever I will be, I will remain grateful to this great country. Today is a glorious day for me.”

Jonathan said Easter, being a period of sacrifice, Nigerians should be ready to make sacrifice for the survival of the government irrespective of who is the President at a given time.

He said even since his days as deputy governor in his home state, he kept telling people that what he needed from them was patriotism and not loyalty.

Commending the Nigerian military and Police Force, President Jonathan cited the examples of soldiers and policemen who he said were dying daily in their fight against Boko Haram in order for others to live.

However, when accosted by state house correspondent at a church service, President Jonathan said he would remain silent on the issues and activities surrounding his tenure as President until a time he considers right to open up to Nigerians.

PoliticsRe: How Ministers, Governors Sabotaged Jonathan by dayodare490: 5:14pm On Apr 05, 2015
Sooroptimist1:
How Ministers, Governors Sabotaged Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan etched his name in gold in history books when he called president-elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd) on March 31, to congratulate him even before the result of the presidential election had been completely collated and the winner declared by the Independent National Electoral commission (INEC).

But while it would appear to all that President Jonathan has already moved on after conceding defeat, LEADERSHIP Sunday can authoritatively report that he is nursing the sting of betrayal by his close allies, which led to his loss at the polls.

According to reliable presidency sources, beyond the pain of losing out, he is disappointed that despite assurances from his cabinet members and other trusted political appointees as well as high ranking officials of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that they had vigorously campaigned and sold his achievements to the people and were sure from feelers they were receiving that he would be re-elected, it turned out that they had in fact, not campaigned for him as they made it seem.

The president, it was gathered is particularly peeved by the action of some governors of Northern and North-Central states where he suffered the worst defeat.

Of the 19 states in the north, the PDP, the president’s party only won the presidential election in Plateau, Nasarawa and Taraba.

LEADERSHIP Sunday gathered that the sum of N500million was given as campaign fund to each state but those who the funds were entrusted to, rather than use the money for the purpose it was meant, held on to it. The money was disbursed through PDP-led state governors and cabinet ministers or political appointees in opposition-led states.

In Ondo State for instance, LEADERSHIPi gathered that the money was disbursed through one of the principal presidency officials from the state but as at night fall on the election eve, the official was yet to deliver the money to the state governor for the campaigns. The leadership of the PDP in the state, it was learnt, resorted to calling managers of banks in the state late in the night on the eve of the presidential election to ask for funds but could only get very little, by which time there wasn’t enough time to reach out to a large number of electorate in the state.

A similar scenario reportedly played out in Oyo State where a minister from the state who was entrusted with the campaign funds allegedly held onto the money. In Kogi State where the PDP also lost out in the presidential election, LEADERSHIP sources said money for the election was also diverted to other uses such as payment of debts, hence the abysmal result the party got in the state.

The abysmal performance of the party in Benue, Bauchi and Kano states, where the PDP has two governors, a Senate president, national chairman of the party and three cabinet ministers, Gabriel Suswam, Isa Yuguda, David Mark, Adamu Muazu, Bala Mohammed, Ibrahim Shekarau and Aminu Wali, respectively, but could not garner votes for the president, was also said to have drawn his ire.

Our source said the president despite having received security reports that a high ranking official of the party was allegedly covertly working for the opposition was particularly annoyed that he had trusted the said official and waved the reports.

Sources in Kaduna State where the vice president, Namadi Sambo hails from and where there is a PDP government in charge, also informed LEADERSHIP Sunday that in one of the local governments in Southern Kaduna, only N100,000 was allotted to two polling units in one of the wards with a voting population of over 1,000 people in sharp contrast with the situation in some local governments in Edo State, where eligible voters with Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) were given N2000 each to vote for the party, hence the success recorded.

Recall that few days before the election, LEADERSHIP Sunday’s sister publication, LEADERSHIP, had exclusively reported that allegations of embezzlement and diversion of campaign funds were rife in the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation (PDPPCO).

According to the report, coordinators of some of President Jonathan’s campaign groups as well as state and zonal coordinators were taking steps to ensure that they did not lose out completely, in the event that he does not win. LEADERSHIP’s investigations in Abuja revealed that the coordinators, rather than use the money for campaigns, had been scouting the Abuja property market with dollars, acquiring choice property. The campaigners, it was gathered, rather than use the money for the purpose it is meant, have resorted to investing the money in property, so that in the event that their candidate does not emerge, they would have something to fall back on.

Real estate agents privy to the development told LEADERSHIP Sunday that since the campaigns began and particularly after the postponement of the elections, there had been an upswing in the number of persons looking to buy property and most of them who usually pay in dollars had been linked to the campaign.

Recall also that about two weeks before the presidential and National Assembly election, there was a free-for-all among some PDP officials in Ogun State, following the failure of those entrusted with the money to release same to campaign coordinators across the state. It was gathered that the campaign coordinators suspected foul play when the money which was to be shared among 708 of them was not, over claims that it was yet to be paid into a certain designated bank account.

Similarly, another report had it that a former governor deeply involved in President Jonathan’s re-election campaign had rather than use money given to him for campaign, deposited it in a bank for it to yield interest and possibly remain there till after the election, after which it will be forgotten and he would convert it to personal use.

Sources within the president’s campaign organisation, said such funds were being used by those they were entrusted with as they pleased and that the situation had compelled the president to personally take charge of his campaign especially in the Northern and South-Western parts of the country.

At the time of the report, a high ranking member of the campaign organisation had confirmed to LEADERSHIP that the headquarters of the campaign organisation was in the know of the development.

“State coordinators are responsible for mobilising and organising campaign rallies in their respective states while zonal coordinators do same for zonal campaigns and when people from the headquarters attend such rallies, they take note of the lapses in planning for further action. The money for such organisation and mobilisation is disbursed by the PDPPCO.

“It has come to the knowledge of the campaign organisation that some coordinators have been telling party members that the money given to them is not sufficient to do what they expect of them but this is not true. They have been given adequate funds. However, the matter cannot be handled now till after the election when the coordinators would be required to retire their spending. The focus right now is on the election,” he said.

It was further gathered that while collation of results was on-going on March 31, after the result of Delta State was presented and it became imminent that Jonathan had lost out, as results from Sokoto, Borno and Yobe were still being expected, some allies of Jonathan met him at the Presidential Villa, where they reportedly prevailed on him to stop further collation and announcement of the results.

While the desperadoes were trying frantically to make Jonathan see reason why he should not accept the outcome of the poll, people on the other divide, led by former head of state, Gen Abdulsalam Abubakar, who were for peace urged Jonathan not to allow the moment of making history slip by.

The president eventually, the source said, rebuffed them saying after failing to convince people to vote for him, they were now suggesting ideas that would set the country on fire.

Following the president’s refusal to play ball, his allies who by now had realised that they would also lose out if he is not re-elected, immediately reached out to the party’s representatives at the collation centre, Dr. Bello Fadile, who is also a director in the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) and former minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, following which Orubebe disrupted collation of results for several minutes, citing INEC’s refusal to attend to a protest by the PDP over results from some Northern states whereas the commission had set up a committee to investigate allegations against the party in Rivers State.

Jonathan, our sources said, called and ordered Orubebe to desist from further disrupting the collation process, failing which he would be whisked out by security operatives, which explains why Orubebe who had earlier rebuffed all entreaties to retreat from the podium, suddenly went back to his seat and remained calm for the rest of the exercise.

The source said that following the development, the president had directed that certain members of the party including governors of some Northern states should not be allowed access to him for now, “and that is why it was only governors of South-East and South-West states that paid him a visit on Monday. The only Northern Governor on the entourage was the Plateau governor. The party won in his state.”

Meanwhile, governors, states chairmen and governorship candidates of the party have been strategising on how to win the governorship and state assembly elections this Saturday. They met at the national headquarters of the party in Abuja, on Friday.
