The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, has banned the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force from conducting stop and search operations on roads except when necessary. Some Nigerians, recently, called for the scrapping of SARS over alleged harassment of innocent people, using the #EndSARS. Following the allegation, the Inspector- General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, promised to restructure and reposition the unit for effective service delivery. Idris also warned members of the group against acting as body-guards, delving into land matters and debt collection that were considered civil. He further warned that members of the unit must only embark on operations with the permission of the commissioner of police in charge of SARS in the police commands. “You must operate in official uniform clearly marked for identification. “I just want to warn you all here that any officer caught engaging in these activities will be dealt with accordingly. “The Nigeria Police force under my leadership shall operate strictly guided by the human rights principles as enshrined in the United Nations charter on human rights,” he said.He mandated the Inspector-General of police’s monitoring units and the X-squad and other over sights units of the force to monitor the activities of the SARS.

Re:Report on NDA Cadets Absconding From Academy 1. The attention of the Nigerian Defence Academy has been drawn to a report, specifically on instablogngr, in which the writer purports that some cadets of the Academy abscond from the institution for days, keeping their military uniforms and other property in the care of Fulani herdsmen. The Nigerian Defence Academy genuinely appreciates the vigilance and forthrightness of the writer of the article and wish to assure the writer and other well - meaning Nigerians that the Academy authority have duly noted his observations and a full scale investigation is underway. 2. Furthermore, we wish to reinforce the confidence of the public that our cadets are being trained under the strictest and most disciplined environment, as befitting of a world class military training institution. There are established procedures and guidelines that ensure cadets remain in the Academy. All cadets are to remain in the Academy except when duly authorized to leave, as provided by the rules and regulations of the Nigerian Defence Academy. For instance, any cadet discovered to be absent from the Academy for a period of 72 hours will be Struck of Strength (SOS) and ceases to be a cadet of the Academy. All our cadets are aware of this and strict enforcement ensured where a cadet is found to have erred. 3. Again, the Nigerian Defence Academy appreciates vigilance of the writer and avers that security is the collective responsibility of all Nigerians, be they military personnel or civilians. Nairalanders ,please your advice is cordially need . What business can I do with #20,000 or what what can I invest in with such an amount ? |
Germany is a highly industrialized country. In such a country, many will think its people lead a luxurious life. When we arrived at Hamburg , my colleagues walked into the restaurant, we noticed that a lot of tables were empty. There was a table where a young couple was having their meal. There were only two dishes and two cans of beer on the table. I wondered if such simple meal could be romantic, and whether the girl will leave this stingy guy. There were a few old ladies on another table. When a dish is served, the waiter would distribute the food for them, and they would finish every bit of the food on their plates. As we were hungry, our local colleague ordered more food for us.When we left, there was still about one third of un-consumed food on the table. When we were leaving the restaurant, the old ladies spoke to us in English, we understood that they were unhappy about us wasting so much food. "We paid for our food, it is none of your business how much food we left behind," my colleague told the old ladies. The old ladies were furious. One of them immediately took her hand phone out and made a call to someone. After a while, a man in uniform from Social Security organisation arrived. Upon knowing what the dispute was, he issued us a 50 Euro fine. We all kept quiet. The officer told us in a stern voice, "ORDER WHAT YOU CAN CONSUME, MONEY IS YOURS BUT RESOURCES BELONG TO THE SOCIETY. THERE ARE MANY OTHERS IN THE WORLD WHO ARE FACING SHORTAGE OF RESOURCES. YOU HAVE NO REASON TO WASTE_RESOURCES." The mindset of people of this rich country put all of us to shame. WE REALLY NEED TO REFLECT ON THIS. We are from country which is not very rich in resources. To save face, we order large quantity and also waste food when we give others a treat. THINK SERIOUSLY ABOUT CHANGING OUR BAD HABITS. VERY TRUE -"MONEY IS YOURS BUT RESOURCES BELONG TO THE SOCIETY" |

OPERATION DAMISA: ASSASSINATION OF SIR AHMADU BELLO, THE SARDAUNA OF SOKOTO ''Ina Sardauna? Where is the Sardauna?” Nzeogwu shouted, pointing his gun at him but the man kept shaking his head asserting no knowledge of the Sardauna’s location. “If you won’t tell me where your master is, I’ll kill you,” Nzeogwu screamed at him in Hausa. “Okay, okay,” the man replied fearfully and led Nzeogwu to the annex of the building. Three other soldiers followed Nzeogwu while Waribor and the rest returned to the staging area where the guns were manned. As Nzeogwu approached the adjoining rooms the man was leading them to, he heard screams and cries of women and children. “We will not allow you out there,” the Sardauna’s eldest wife, Hafsatu, daughter of Mallam Abbas, the Waziri of Sokoto, spoke defiantly. “But I have to go. They are here for me not for you. You have to be strong. I have to go out there,” the Sardauna pleaded. The other wives, with their children, were rattling their prayer beads in the midst of sobs. As the Sardauna turned to go, Hafsatu held him firm in a tight embrace and wouldn’t allow him move. Zaruni, the Sardauna’s head of guard came in and alerted the Premier that the soldiers were approaching the annex but promised to defend the family with his life and that of his men. “Zaruni, I know you must do your duty but my safety is in God's hands,” the Sardauna said. “No, you can’t die, you won’t die,” Hafsatu screamed in Hausa. As she was crying, they heard gunshots outside. At this moment, Zaruni drew his bow and stood guard before the Sardauna and his family. With another sound of gunshots from his SMG, Nzeogwu kicked hard at the doors with his boots, which flung open and on sighting Zaruni, shot the poor guard who dropped dead at once, with his bow and arrows. In the midst of the dark and screams of the women and children, Nzeogwu shouted, “Where’s the Sardauna?” But the women would not allow him move. Even the children were clinging to their mothers. At last, the Premier managed to wriggle himself free from his wives but the eldest, Hafsatu, held on to him as he spoke. “I am Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto and the Premi…” With those words, Nzeogwu shot thrice at him; a bullet hitting his jaw, his wife, Hafsatu and his babaringa which penetrated his lower abdomen and lodged in his spinal cord. The Sardauna and his wife fell with a loud thud to the screams of the women and children at the loudest decibels. It was music to Nzeogwu’s ears. The mission had been accomplished. He had satisfied his blood lust and his enraged eyes were returning to their former calm state. He blew the whistle to signal the end of the mission. Operation Damisa had finally come to an end. As he approached the gate, he met Waribor and his men of the Charlie Company. “Did you get the man?” Waribor asked. “Yes, I got him,” Nzeogwu answered assuredly. He turned to the rest of the soldiers after he had got out of the gate and spoke triumphantly, “I have been successful, he’s dead.” With that, they packed their remnants, got inside their landrovers and proceeded to their next mission unchallenged leaving the Sardauna’s residence in a glory of its former self. It was 2:45am and the harshness of the harmattan had just begun.#HistoryVille #ACBDawn Source: A Carnage Before Dawn: A Historical Novel On Nigeria's First Coup D'etat by Ayomide Akinbode
