Ibe Kachikwu: Why My Jaguar Car Was Impounded In The US

- DISCLAIMER -
The attention of Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu has been drawn to a false, patently misleading, and frivolous publication by an online news medium. The publication which alleged that the former Minister smuggled a stolen jaguar car to the US is not only absurd but manifestly untrue. For the avoidance of doubt, it is expedient to set the record straight.

Sometime in 2009, Dr. Kachikwu bought a Jaguar car from Dazz Motors Nigeria Ltd, Victoria Island, Lagos. The Managing Director then was Emmanuel Jack. The car was fully paid for.
After using the car for some years, it was gifted to a relation in the United States of America (USA) and following due local customs processes, the car was shipped to the US. However, on arrival, the car was impounded by the US Customs on suspicion of being a stolen car and for emission control Infringement as cars with European and African emission control specifications cannot be used in the US.
“Nigerians please if I’m wrong correct me. Which Nigerian has bought a luxury and expensive car, then decide to export such car to US or Europe.
I have not heard of such.
Rather Nigerian buy such luxury cars to ride in Nigeria and never to be shipped back to US or Europe. Because it’s cheaper to purchase such cars abroad than reverse was the case!
Also, why would Ibe Kachikwu resort to exporting a Jaguar car from Nigeria to the US, for his cousin? When he can afford to acquire such luxury vehicle in the US. Is he feels his cousin or relative deserves such a car.”

Consequently, the US Customs was furnished with details of the car and purchase receipts, and the car dealer in Nigeria was contacted. The car dealer confirmed the facts and absolved Dr. Kachikwu. After investigation and relevant administrative processes, (there was no court case), the US customs discontinued the investigation as there was no proof that the vehicle was stolen but the emission breach would not allow the car to be used in the US.
“He should show Nigerian evidence that the US court actually squashed the case due to lack of evidence that the car was not stolen”
I have never heard that a car cannot be imported from Europe to US due to emission breach. My question is this. Is it not the same model manufactured that are been driven in the US. Why would Kachikwu’s case be different?”

The car was therefore released to Dr. Kachikwu. The dealer was also not prosecuted for want of sufficient evidence.
The car was subsequently returned to the dealer in Nigeria and refunds were made to Dr. Kachikwu. There is therefore nothing done wrong by Dr. Kachikwu. If anything like the US customs determined, he was an innocent victim. These are the facts.
“Nigerian, I have never heard that a car was dully purchased and fully paid for. Having drove the car for a period of time, decided to return the car for his full refund, just because the car cannot be exported to Europe or US”
There is more to this. As far as I am concerned there is no atom of truth in this defence!

Please does anyone have an idea about how Nigerian Breweries Contractorship works. I have a trick with a contractor at NBL and I do everything myself but this man pays me peanuts. I just discovered that NBL pays 80% more than the man pays me. Yet he will still charge 12% from the peanuts he pays. I tried to contact NBL and they said I should go and meet my contractor. Please any information in this regard will be appreciated. It is the NBL Aba and Enug branch
