There no 'millions' of other people. There are only 1.3m max. The stats are public, that's why I say it's not an achievement metric. Literally less than 1.5m people are in the entire Nigerian stock market. OsunOriginal: Bro, it is not just about traders. There are millions of other people who invest in stocks for future and for their children, i am not a trader but I put some money (small though) on stocks like many others. If the value grows, I would be happy.
Also, even if you don't have anything to do with NGX and you are an independent observer of event, that stock value is growing may convince you that the government is doing something. It is the same reason Trump rushes to social media each time stock value goes up in the US. |

Bruh, nobody cares about the stock market as a metric. There are only like 1m active traders, most of them onboarded in the last year. It's not so important a statistic since it doesn't actually mean anything. People can't buy bread on the road, people can't pay Band A light, people can't travel from Lagos to Oyo without doing night-vigil beforehand. Nobody us going to vote Tinubu because some people in Lagos made 100% on MTN. OsunOriginal: That exactly is the problem. I think the politicians are trying to ensure Tinubu is not able to use the NGX growth as an achievement. The downward trend started the week someone linked the NGX growth to Tinubu's policy. I may be wrong.
For now, I will stay on the sideline watching the happenings until after election. |

I am curious, what happens when thousands of people buy micro-shares of a company and die without either dematerilising it or letting their family know. Are those shares just lost forever? Eg, the thousands of parents who bought bankIPOs during the stock boom of 2006. yMcy56: Femi now controls 20.42% equity shares of First Bank.... Above 100 still beckoning once papa is ready....😊
** Meanwhile, accumulations is still ongoing in NASCON.... I hope it's not Ote$$ that's taking position here as well....
We need to know who's behind the 70M units of DANGCEM crossed yesterday and those accumulating NASCON.... Something seems fishy here... |

Noted. You obviously have more experience so would gladly defer to you. Does this new rule throw up any problems in your view? awesomeJ: The main issue was that the market needed to do something to end the annoying illiquidity. The easiest way would be for them to revert to the tiered volume requirement they had in place, but that would then bring back the original issues that made them amend the rule in the first place, hence my suggestion.
I do not know what your interpretation of my suggestion is exactly, but it wouldn't at all imply a case by case intervention. Just a genral rule in their code like so would suffice:
bool price_moves = volume_traded >= 100, 000 || calendar_days_since_last_price_change >= 90 if price_moves == true set_new_price simple algorithm that's that one patch and would work every time for every stock.
They probably just chose to go with an algorithm they already previously had in place. |

No vex sir. We never even reach to buy car from profits but we shall get there and then I no go gree for you again awesomeJ: As a matter of fact, SEPLAT is currently being affected.
It trades at £5 in London (about 9300), but NGX quoting it at 11363 cos of their 100k rule.
It's why there are lots of offers at 10k with no buyer.
If this rule had been in effect today, seplat would have dropped to 10200, then tomorrow, bids would show up at 9k.
It's just basic market knowledge, but I don't believe you trade full time @d..wing |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by deathwing(m): 3:04pm On Jun 18 |
I meant deciding it for each stocks in the way you recommendd, after a number of months of stagnancy etc, would not be very efficient, because they would be intervening on a case-by-case basis. It's better if the rule is the same for the market. Your point also makes my point...if Seplat was stuck for six months and finally got out of the fugue, why intervene in another that was only stuck for three months? But this is all academic anyway, since it was likely not under consideration, I was just opposing that particular suggestion you had. awesomeJ: This is your uninformed opinion. I don't think you should be advertising the ignorance.
SEPLAT was also once affected for nearly 6 months, but your history of the stock is apparently short and limited.
It's not up to companies to decide whether 1 unit of trade in their shares will move price or whether it'd be 100k units. It's exactly the responsibility of the market, you not knowing that is funny. |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by deathwing(m): 2:36pm On Jun 18 |
A stock deciding to be illiquid when other stocks are moving is not the NGX's busines, afterall Seplat was moving. Trying to solve the issue on a case by case basis would be costly, political and counter to the goal of involving foreign investors. I am also sure the smart ones among us would learn to quickly game the system. It should be one rule for everyone awesomeJ: follow up in January: |

There is nothing that is not affected by govt policy in nigeria. From price of data to Oil and Gas. Even Cement. Palm oil should be the least of your worries nosa2: My view on palm oil companies in Nigeria is not based on the global market but on Nigerian government policy Edit: Govt policy even tells banks where to host their data. So being bearish solely on govt policy is not advisable...since the entire stock market has had such a good run precisely because of the interplay between govt policy and inflation. |

Wait o, you guys are actually serious? Haba! You really want random people on a faceless forum to consider your feeling when they mention outrageous prices for entry for their own preferred stocks? To what end, so the stock won’t crash or so you won’t have sleepless nights? Crazy. I see such posts and chuckle because when they sound outrageous, I assume they are joking…and even if they weren’t, how does their chattering affect my portfolio and thesis and personal investment goals? Make Una Dey take am easy o. Honestly thought the first commenter who complained was being Tongue-in-cheek yMcy56: Honestly, I think I agreed with the Oga....Asangbekoko.... Comical relief when people are loosing money? That's insensitive if I may say and it doesn't always go down well when someone is just mentioning a ridiculous amount all in the name of looking for bargain entry or comical relief..... whatever it's called!!
To buttress the point, it shouldn't be coming from some people..... While some of us will not even bother if it's coming from the likes of Agba or Peterichy, we will however be concerned when the likes of Mega, Oga Emma and some Ogas joke with such things...... |

Well, farting in public in front of people definitely warrants you being looked at like a 'tard' because it goes against simple social graces.
