A stupid way to write news. The methodology (using search results) is almost childish. To be 'at risk' is very different from being 'prone'.

Hello. What's the recommended battery amps for 2003 e46 320i? I just got one and need to change from the old dead battery from the dealer.

Also, it seems the who instrument cluster lights up like a christmas tree after you change the alternator. What's up with that and how does one clear the multiple errors?
Celebrities / Re: Burna Boy: Streaming Numbers Don't Mean You Are Talented by deathwing(m): 11:09am On May 07, 2019
Somebody who blew when white people began accidentally streaming his 'ye' in 2018 because they thought it was Kanye West is castigating other celebrities for feeling good about their numbers.

This same Burna Boy screamed at Coachella to put his name in big fonts because he was an 'african giant' based on that same Apple streaming numbers that made him blow. Now he is proud.

Oh well.

The parts are available...just a little bit more expensive

Ok thanks. To be safe, I think I'll just go for the RWD. I don't really need the extra weight and fuel consumption of AWD since i don't move around so much.

Also, do you have any idea how much these smoked headlights cost?

Car Talk / Re: Your Motor Guru Is Here! Ask Your Questions... by deathwing(m): 6:43pm On May 05, 2019
SO a BMW mechanic just told me not to get the e46 325xi i had been planning on because 'the parts of the AWD are rare and different from the normal ones'.

Anyone have any experience with this?
Car Talk / Re: BMW Owners' Forum by deathwing(m): 12:50pm On May 05, 2019
Turns out what i thought was the coolant tank was actually the windshield washer fluid grin grin grin (made the mistake because the tank was on the same side as that of my previous car's coolant tank)

Anyways, do you have any experience with maintaining the AWD versions? Because a mechanic told me the part for the e46 325xi are rarer and different from the normal 325i

Low coolant is suggestive of a leak and potential engine overheat if you are not careful. I'll advise you go to the BMW spare parts area in Ladipo and make enquires for the current price of the car parts. I don't have a particular shop to refer you to.

Don't be carried away by the M3 rim and smoked headlight. They will not help your power steering or leaking coolant in any way

Now I'm considering it now tho. It has black custom smoked headlights(sample headlight pictured) and an M3 rim. According to Ebay and Alibaba, those lights cost about $300. ANd the rims about $600. Wetin you think? angry angry If you are sure about the PS price, it ain't that expensive to fix then. Asides the PS and maybe the tarnished leather, the car is alright. Though i noticed the coolant was low, so I don't know whether it's because of an issue with the reservoir tank or if it somehow dried up. How much is original blue coolant and/or the tank? Plus how much is the Dexron III. I'm seeing 10k on Jumia.

alphaNomega:

You're better than me. My first time driving an e46 was with one that had a bad PS pump, the former owner told me that's how the steering feels and convinced me it was normal.

Anyway a power steering rack would cost 18 - 20k, your power steering pump should be circa 15k. You have to inspect the hoses and reservoir for leaks and possible replacement too.

Power steering fluid spec is Dexron III or Dex/Merc

Thank! But is it necessary or even desirable to get the xi (all wheel drive) versions of the e46? They seem to be more common among dealers now but I don't see any advantage a 4-wheel drive sedan could give me .
Car Talk / Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by deathwing(m): 5:54am On May 03, 2019
I am trying to get a car and I can't seem to decide between the facelift bmw e46 and the facelift w203 c240 kompressor (2006).

I really love the exterior and headlight shape of the e46, but the interior of that facelift benz blows my mind.

I test drove the e46 325xi a few days and it was wild! Never driven the benz.

I have no concerns about the maintenance cost of the e46 because it's almost negligible. But I know nothing about the maintenance of the c240 or what common issues it might have. I am especially wary of it being driven through Lagos rains because i know flood do something silly to benz. I also hear of it's key issues etc

All in all, I'm scared i might get bored with the interior of the BMW soon. I really really love the interior of the benz.

Thoughts?

Anyone know how much the steering rack/pump is for e46 325xi. Was checking a sexy e46 car at a dealer's yesterday and the steering was hard af. They were saying its normal but since I'm not a mumu, i felt it was most likely a steering pump/rack issue, so i abandoned the car. I'm just curious to know the price of that equipment for the 325XI

Is there much real world difference between the fuel economy of e46 325i and an e46 330i? Anyone here experienced both?

Car Talk / Re: Volkswagen Passat CC Won't Start by deathwing(m): 7:21pm On Mar 21, 2019
My oil leaked out onto the road while I was driving because a seal broke where that timing chain is. So i towed the car there and asked them to fix the seal. After they fixed it, i came back days later to find the car wasn't starting ...or wasn't starting well. It kept stopping me on the road. It was a big issue because no one told me about timing, tey kept giving all sorts of excuses until starting up the car became a gamble.
It took a while sha, but I got reputable Passat mechanics at Gbagada who fixed both the oil pressure light and timing for me at the same time. They showed me that the Timing rail had broken (one red plastic under the chain that guides the chain. It looks like the white plastic your handle of your WC hooks into) Car became good as new, but all the trouble it took and the money i spent really pissed me off, so I sold it immediately. Lovely, excellent car, but I won't try it again. grin

Had this issue too at the same time.My timing was incorrect, but it was the mechanic who actually spoilt it when i asked him to check something. I hope they do it well for you.

UPDATE

A problem has been discovered: The engine timing was incorrect, causing the pistons, or something like that, to damage the valves. The valves would have to be replaced.
Car Talk / Re: Volkswagen Passat CC Won't Start by deathwing(m): 10:01am On Mar 08, 2019
Oh sorry, I forgot to mention. The problem doesn't show up in scans. When you crank the engine, it gives the error and then goes off. But you need to make sure that the car has no other issues (eg with the timing chain) before you clean your engine.

If the timing chain cover is opened, you might see that the engine is badly caked with oil, this goes all the way down through the system and causes the pressure. You either clean the engine, or get another half-engine with a better oil system.

But first scan with a professional tool. If you know anyone who drives an expensive benz or BMW, ask their mechanic to recommend a VW person with the right tool to you

Mehn, what the hell is Hardex? angry angry angry angry angry angry angry

Victoriousvic:

It cranks but doesn't start.

Mehn. I'm really sorry about this demonic problem. It happened to me too and the only solution was a complete engine cleaning before I sold the car. Apparently, this is a factory fault sometimes (according to my investigation). And even the cleaning is not guaranteed to solve the problem. It solved it in mine, thankfully.

The oil pressure error is caused by oil sludge clogging the engine. This problem occurs faster if you use low-quality oil (like Mobil 1). I used only Castrol but the person i bought it from Used Mobil 1.

Anyways, you need to contact a professional car technician and ask for comprehensive scan before you spend any extra money. If the scanner doesn't bring a fault, then the scanner is not for the car.

I managed to solve it in Lagos, and I had already written directions to the place before i saw you were in Calabar. Good luck.
