pheliciti: To most people commenting, let me ask if you have ever been to Badia? If you have not, then see this picture of Badia. The question is, can you live here? Can you let your relatives live here? Forget whether or not they own the land, could they not have kept sanitary conditions? I was part of a non governmental Community dev. Project trying to give Badia pipe borne water. I discovered that they have pipe borne water and drainages, they blocked the drainages with refuse.
To those of us that say govt should relocate them free of charge, you would be shocked to note that they pay rent to some people, they thus can afford rent in other places away from the city center. Ask how man of these people pay taxes or do we think that voting alone entitles us to all good things of life?
I have known the place since 80's. It is this year I understand the word BADIA that it came out from " BAD IDEA" .

deeptesting: Dude there is so much to learn from it, first it provided accommodation for low-income earners most especially civil servants for over 30 years....Most who got these houses have since sold them, retired and relocated to their home state to build more descent two, three rooms and 2 bedroom flats for those who are buoyant. Who are the owners of the present government buildings? How many people are aware of the time of allocation of these buildings after it has been constructed? If you have really gone out there to help these poor ones I doubt you will support the government to throw them out without adequate compensation or temporary relocation irrespective of owns the land....During his campaign for re-election did he put it up to them as part of his manifesto that he will demolish their houses without adequate compensation or relocation? I am sure he promised them heaven on earth......
before it usually get to the demolition point, the people are usually given 1 - 2 years notice to quit the land, but the people are always hopeful that government might have forgotten the land or had 10 years in view for any development. has the courts ever listened to any criminal being convicted on the excuse " it's because I do not have job and my children are hungry, that's why I joined this crime to survive, pardon me, I have learned my lesson ". Never

deeptesting: At least the president of Nigeria did not go about demolition the abode of the poor and as far as I know Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, he would take adequate step to ensure he does not impoverished the people more than he found them that is what government is all about and democracy.....It is the government of the people, by the people and for the people and not for the rich.
to my own knowledge I think Ebele Jonathan is more solidly worse than fashola. 1. subsidy removal _that created more unemployment. 2. sacking of minister of power Barth inaji and cancellation of TCN Manitoba contract which resulted to closed down of factories. 3. money for education and youth development being diverted to centenary celebration.

Obiagelli: Perfect response from a true leader, God bless you ngige

All this bandwagoning by uniformed few is just shameful.

Question is have anyone interviewed any of the returnee, have anyone found out what their conditions were in Lagos before they were reunited?

Have lagos state not been returning hausa beggers to the not?

Haven't the Eastern states been re moving fulani migrants from their states

Did the federal government not return igbo from abuja some months ago?
God bless you lady for speaking so sincerely. many of the people speaking are hypocrites. they will either support devil on sentiment rather than facing the truth. come to think of it they do not have compassion at all for those destitute cause they see them on Lagos street and in front of their shops but will never never assist them and averagely igbos are stingy. they won't give even 10 naira. have they been talking outrageously before when their kinsmen were being killed in Asia? why is it all this while obi never give in to interviews by journalist to refute the Lagos govt assertion. what have they done for the killings of igbos after the last general election. only rehabilitation of destitute which all your government abadoned, neither the ohaneze cared for them, that is now creating an uproar. if igbo cared at all for igbo destitute you would never have seen igbo destitute in Lagos.

LATE MISS WINIFRED & HER EX-BOYFRIEND, CHINEDU OGBONNA

For most parents, the joy of seeing their children through university education cannot be described because it is indeed a milestone achievement. It is also the moment most graduates of Nigeria’s tertiary institutions look forward to, as those who are eligible for the mandatory one year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) are called up for posting while those who are not, immediately look forward to being employed or set-up their own businesses.

It was with that same enthusiasm and sense of nationalism that 23-year old Amarachi Winifred Okey, a graduate of Home Economics from the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, set out to RiversState for her NYSC as a member of Batch C, in November, 2012.

It was supposed to be for a year. Winifred, as she was popularly called, never anticipated that her life which was beginning to unravel before her, would be cut short so soon and in one of the most brutal ways one could imagine.

The first child of her mother’s two children, Winifred, who was doing herPrimary Assignment at the Community Secondary School in Iddo,Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State where she taught the junior students Home Economics, was set ablaze in her room, alongside a fellow 2013 Batch B NYSC member simply identified as Atinuke, at the ‘Corpers’ Lodge’ on the night of July 17th, 2013, while they were asleep.

According to a very close family member and confidant of Winifred who spoke to Information Nigeria on the condition of anonymity, “while they were sleeping, someone poured petrol into their room through the window after bolting the door from outside and threw a lighted match inside.”

The girls’ screams and cries for help immediately woke up other members of the lodge and other people around, who helped to put out the fire and transport the burnt victims to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital where they were admitted at the Intensive Care Unit.

The source explains that initially there was no suspect as the attacker was not sighted nor Winifred, described as easy-going, friendly and unassuming, known to have any enemies until it came to light that her ex-boyfriend, Chinedu Ogbonna, a Mechanical Engineering graduate from the same institution as the victim but was yet to go for service, had sent text messages threatening to deal with her for calling off their relationship. He was also said to have sent similar sms to Winifred’s new lover.

https://cdn.informationnigeria.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG-20130719-00283-r.jpg
LATE WINIFRED & ATINUKE’S ROOM AFTER THE INCIDENT

Not much is known about what made the relationship between the deceased and Chinedu go sour, but the family member revealed that as a confidant, she knew the deceased was in an abusive relationship and probably had enough to decide to finally call it quits.

She said: “When the incident happened, Winifred’s current lover (name withheld), showed her family the several text messages Chinedu sent to his phone as well as Winifred’s but the messages couldn’t be retrieved from her phone as it was damaged in the fire.

“The family then called Chinedu, who resides with his parents in Port Harcourt on his phone number to inform him of what had happened to Winifred.”

The source added that Chinedu rained curses on the perpetrators of the dastardly act and promised to come and visit her in the ICU of UNIPORT’s Teaching Hospital.

True to his word, Chinedu showed up at the hospital the following day after the incident and was immediately apprehended by some members of Winifred’s family with the help of security.

The source noted that “When he was caught, it was observed that Chinedu was wearing hand gloves which was odd and upon removal, fresh burns were seen on both of his hands which made the family to believe that he was the one that committed the crime as he could not give satisfactory explanation as to how he sustained the burns.”

Chinedu was subsequently handed over to the police as a suspect.

Unfortunately, Miss Winifred passed on early hours of Wednesday, 31 July, after she underwent surgery.

Efforts to contact the state NYSC was unsuccessful as at the time of publishing this report.

However, when contacted, Principal of CSS Iddo confirmed the incident but refused to go into further details as hewas not authorized to speak to the press.

Confirming the incident, State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Angela Agabe said the suspect has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigations.

Meanwhile, Information Nigeria learnt that Atinuke is still at the hospital and responding well to treatment.

Dereformer: This is why I keep saying something must be wrong with Islam. Asari dokubo said toddler marriage is the right of Moslems.

I served in the north, what I saw during those days made me conclude that if Nigeria disintegrate, the North will suffer seriously.

Nine in every twelve teenage girls were pregnant at that time. It was during my stay there that I heard of an ailment called VVF suffered by teenage girls as a result of pregnancy.

In terms of education, in 100 years to come the north will be nowhere close to the south; even if their cut-off mark for admission is reduced to 1 from the current 2.

Child abuse is what our Islamic senators want to legalize in this country.

Every well meaning Nigerian should say no to this.

On the alternative, child abuse should be legalized in the north.
I disagree. Please have compassion for those voiceless girls. if they had chance they would run to south. you should know yerima's daughter don't go to sec school. They are in their husband house. call on Etsu of nupe to help these girls. he is good in that.

PoliticsRe: Etsu Nupe Accused Of Forcefully Converting People To Islam by debbleopto: 4:19pm On Jul 27, 2013
abubello: This is what the lady said:

Weekly Trust: What is your name?
Aisha Uzoechina: I was formerly known as Charity Uzoechina and now A’isha Uzoechina.

Why the change of name?
I changed my name because I have accepted Islam.

What brought you to Bida?
I came to Bida in 2012 to read Public Administration at the Federal Polytechnic, Bida.

Are you still a student of Federal Polytechnic Bida?
No, I am not. I have withdrawn from the school.

Did you go back home?
No, I did not go home. At the beginning I was planning to go back home, because I wanted to tell my father that I have converted to Islam. When I converted, I was afraid to tell my parents, because of the way my father would behave. I know he will not take it lightly with me. So, for that I refused to go back home.

Did anybody force or enticed you to join Islam?

I joined Islam on my own. Nobody enticed me with anything to join Islam.

What informed your decision to join Islam?
I converted to Islam because I love the character of Muslims, particularly the way they behave. You know Muslims believe in God. I have Muslim friends and I watch what they do, that enticed me to join Islam. I used to read Qur’an when I was a Christian. I always join them to read Qur’an and through that I found out that it is the same one God they worship. So I embraced Islam.

How did your father come to know about your change of faith?
When I ran to the palace, I told you, it was very difficult before I could see the Emir. When I saw him, the emir refused to accept me, because my father did not know about it. He, therefore, collected my father’s number from me and called him. The following day my father came and said he wanted to see me. When we met we talked one on one.

What did you tell him?
Well the emir told him that I have converted to Islam. When my father talked to me, he said let’s go home, but I refused. I told him that I will not change my faith, because I have already accepted Islam and this is where I want to stay. He, therefore, threatened me so much so that I became scared of him.

What did he do to you amounting to a threat?
In the first place you know, I put on Hijab (veil), he said I should remove the Hijab. He was angry and used some harsh words on me, directing that I should remove the Hijab, but I refused. He threatened to take me to a village where nobody will set his eyes on me. So I became scared of him, therefore I refused to follow him. That is it.

Did the emir intervene?
The emir gave him one week to come back, but he came back even before it reached one week. He said he must take me home. He will not take me to our house, but he’ll take me to somewhere that nobody will set his eyes on me. I quickly ran back to the emir and to the Shari’a Court for protection. I don’t want to go back to my father, because he is threatening me.

How did you come to know about the Shari’a Court?
I found out from people. I went to them on my own to formally lodge my complaint.

Why Shari’a Court?
They have to protect me. You know when you take a case to court over life threatening issue, the court must protect you. That is it.

Did your father come back after you refused to follow him?
He came back. He kept on coming back. The other time he even threatened to bring some people to kidnap me.

Is it true that at a time your father came with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) officials to you?
Yes.

Is it true that you also went to the Jama’atul Nasril Islam (JNI)?
Yes.

Why did you go to JNI?
I told you and I’ll still repeat it, though I don’t want to repeat my words again. I want them to intervene on my behalf, the threat is too much. Now I can’t go anywhere, I cannot even continue with my schooling. I cannot do anything because of the way he has been threatening me. He is still bringing people up till now to keep watch on me.

How do you know that your father has assigned people to keep watch on you?
There was a time that I wanted to go out, information came to me that my father was around and I had to stay back since I don’t want him to take me away. I know that if I gout anytime,I he’ll pick me up.

How did you come to know about JNI?
I have been reading about them. That is why I went to them.

How did you present your case to JNI?
I wrote to them seeking for their intervention, because I do not know how to go about convincing my father. I also learnt that the emir wanted to hand me over to my father, because the burden of my case is becoming too much for him to bear.

If your father should promise to allow you to practice your new faith, will you go with him?
I’ll not. In a family that you are the only Muslim, how can you practice in that house? You know when he (my father) came along with my mother the other time, his actions and the harsh words he used, even if I go back home, my life will not be secured in his hand. That is why I said I’ll not go.

Did you start learning anything about Islam?
Yes, I started learning how to perform ablution. I have learnt how to recite Surah Al-Fatihah, I am now in my second surah.

Do you pray five times a day?
Yes I do. I am even fasting now. I have been fasting since the beginning of the month of Ramadan.
What is your massage to people wanting to join Islam?

I have only one massage. Islam is good. Muslims are truthful, everything they say, they believe in God and they carry people along. Once a person converted to Islam, he’ll be carried along until he is strong to stand on his own.

What is your appeal to your parent?
I am appealing to my parents not to be angry with me. My conversion to Islam will not separate us. I still love them, even though I am here. They can come and visit me and I can also visit them. They shouldn’t think my new faith will take away the love I have for them. It will not. I am very sorry.

Case closed
it is not a hard thing to believe. I remember Judas Iscariot deserting Jesus to the enemy's camp when he was enticed with thithy pieces of silver just like the girl was enticed to convert to islam. something is always involved to entice ( not conviction). to cross over. there is one deeper life worker that converted to guru maharaji in the early 90's. she is even more confused saying its the same God. when one said this is my beloved son in whom I am well please. while the other said Allah bear no son and nobody bears him. while one said you must believed Christ as the son of God and believe that He died for u to be saved. the other said if you believe that he has son you are an infidel and do not believe that Jesus died because it is judas that was crucified. It is not a new thing that Adam and Eve disbelieve God and believe Satan and so ate the fruit. Of what profit shall it be to a man who gain the whole world and loose his own soul?

oscar pad: I stil dont understand y d non muslims are empty headed, even wit d law being passed by d senate, is it mandatory to grant ur child as a bride at ur own displeasure? Of course no, it is a matter of choice. Is either u accept or u reject any offer of such
once upon a time, there was a little girl named Hausa Abubakar. Like all little girls, she must have dreams. Perhaps she dreamed of being a doctor, lawyer, teacher or simply doing something that would impact the world around her. She didn't get to be a doctor, lawyer or teacher but she became famous and not in any desirable way.
When she was nine years old, her father married her off to be the fourth wife of a 40 year old man( a fool at 40! ) That wasn't part of Hauwa's dream and so ran back home as soon as she could. Her father's house wasn't the place of succor and protection that every little girl should rightly assume. Her father dragged her back to the man who called himself her husband. Undaunted, Hausa ran away again, and again, her father sent her back. After she was returned the third time, the " husband " hacked off her legs to immobilized the " runaway bride" permanently.

Hauwa's story attracted global condemnation. She became the poster child of everything that is wrong about some of our cultural and religious practices. Her story opened up the can of putrid worms known as VVF, a disease that was ( hopefully no longer ) prevalent in parts of Nigeria where dominant religious and cultural beliefs condone. in fact encourage - child brides.

Hauwa eventually died as a consequence of the double amputations. But her ordeals were not in vain. Her state, Bauchi, took the lead and banned marriages of girls under 18 years. The other nine northern states followed suit. All ten northern states offered universal education to girls until the age 18. They enacted stiff penalties for fathers who withdrew their daughters from school for marrrige.

oscar pad: I stil dont understand y d non muslims are empty headed, even wit d law being passed by d senate, is it mandatory to grant ur child as a bride at ur own displeasure? Of course no, it is a matter of choice. Is either u accept or u reject any offer of such
may be homosexuality should also be made a choice and not compulsory. cocaine heroine & Indian hemp should be passed by the law as a choice. You don't consider _the little girls since they don't have their own voice, you only consider the men that are doing transaction over the girl. if the girl is enlightened and ask her to choose between education ( her bright future ) and the proposed marriage, it is education she will choose 100%. why is it in your community it is only the boy child that should be educated and also why has 13 year old boy not mature to marry 12 year old "mature" girl?

Why will a father give out his little girl out for marriage? - because of economic, social or political benefits. After all, Hauwa's father married her off to a man to whom he owed money.

tintingz: Lolzz... Do you read my post well??

Child marriage is a norm in the past century a culture in asia, africa, europe and south america, do you read the part where I posted this

^^ Back then human age/growth is different from todays own girls maturity begins at the age of 9-13 they were seen as ladies not young girls, likewise there was no education then for all except for the wealthy people, but today education is important for children, child marriage is not needed anymore.

If adult age is 13 in U.S before and 18 today What will be the adult age in the future?? I guess you will call any man that married a 18-20 years old girl a pedo, craddle-robber of today since you are living in the future? undecided

Hope you get what am saying, next time read with understanding not sentimental before posting.
does a lady play with toys at that time? is the body of 10 years able to bear the burden of pregnancy that time? In all sincerity I was thinking the greatest of the prophets should be able to caution the people at that time. Why is it only Aisha that was married at such tender age among all the wives of the prophet? why is that among all the female slaves captured during the wars, there is no report of girls like that being shared among the soldiers even for the prophet?

kobonaire: That is true, some people on NL may be sensationalizing the argument based on preset and closed mindsets.
PS: Also I don't believe North America permits child marriage. For example, there is no US state that allows a marriage between an adult (18+) and a 13 year old (minor).
if you are sometimes reading news from overseas you will be getting information of the practice and laws. three months ago in an America city, a girl(18) was arrested for having affairs with another girl(15). The allegation is that it is against the law for her to have affair with a minor, even though the homosexuality is not questioned. she was even suspended from the school.

the father should leave her abeg.

he should just keep tabs on her welfare from time to time, if possible. If not, then leave her in the hands of God.

she says she's enjoying her new abode, so let her settle in.

hope he has other kids? huh If not, he can adopt, surely.
had it been the daughter patience Jonathon, the etsu would be doing the remaining evangelism at kirikiri maximum prison
