jp philips: whose account is the bold part? All the participants in the conference concur that Kpera was fully involved, please go and read the transcript to see that the actors did not always agree with Ojukwu, save for the ones that are clear truth.
Katsina as a northerner would have said "no, kpera, was just a gate man" or "no Kpera our son was just watching them". the truth was that, they know he was deep involved that was why they all agreed.

That part was not a proposal, it was the ending of an argument where ojukwu was setting the record straight, it wasn't even one of Ojukwu's Aburi demands hence the actors were not in any obligation not to decline if they wish to.

secondly, i wont blame you if you erroneously think that of Kpera because at some point while they were being hunted by the then military tribunal, lots of them were either hiding or denying their involvement, let me give you some examples;

Gbulie up there has already absolved Ojukwu that he knew nothing about the coup, tell me, who will believe that crap? Has ojukwu admitted yet?
Obasanjo has never agreed that he was one of the masterminds of the counter coup (july 66).
TY Danjuma has never admitted in any of his books that he master minded the death of Aguiyi ironsi
Gowon has never admitted his involvement in the coup that killed murtala Mohammed, reason why obasanjo's Govt was hunting him like bush meat.

truth is, the intelligence report are not with you, but if you have access to some of their confessions, you can easily string the truth together, I am not surprised Kpera is denying his involvement but the big actors, the Ogas at the top, know who and who were involved.
These old men today are being hunted by guilty conscience, reason they seize every media opportunity to confess.

I don't believe his Awolowo twist either, i saw it as a gimmick to buy the Yoruba sympathy,he claimed the coupists liked Awolowo, that is a big lie, Ojukwu never liked Awolowo, he claimed Ojukwu stopped the coup, lol, that is news for the ignorant not for me. I think he is just painting a selfless picture of their 66 mistake.
how can Gbulie in his imagination think they will hand over to Awolowo, when Ojukwu had all the opportunity to release Awolowo did he? not until Gowon did. who is fooling who?


BTW i heard Gbulie's version in 1988 during a symposium at queens school Enugu and I have managed to read his book, just that the lies couldn't let me to continue.

Katsumoto: Including Kpera amongst coup plotters is of the most idiotic reasoning. Nzeogwu told his boys they were on a training exercise. The exercise suddenly turns into a coup dead in the middle of the night. What were the boys supposed to do? See excerpt from Special Branch report about what Nzeogwu did to one who wasn't willing to participate.

147. Immediately inside the compound, Major Nzeogwu stationed the Carl Gustavs some 10 yards apart facing the lodge. The gunners were Sgts. Oyegeke and Manga, whilst Sgt. Adebiyi acted as ammunition number. As soon as both guns had been loaded, Major Nzeogwu ordered the NCOs to open fire at the Lodge. Both fired their projectiles bursting inside the ground floor rooms of the building. Sgt. Adebiyi stated that he then

Immediately after this both Manga and Adebiyi heard a burst of SMG fire. They turned round and observed Sgt. Oyegoke slumped on the ground bleeding from multiple wounds. It was clear to both that their colleague had been killed by Major Nzeogwu either for refusing to obey or because he attempted to run away.



And here is Kpera's version (Kpera and many other soldiers were never tried for their participation in this coup. Kpera would rise to become a Governor and Brigadier)

jp philips: One person don't execute a coup because the Army command is littered everywhere in the country, however, the planning is done by a few while the rest take orders. the main actors are those ones i wrote up there.

The coup which saw the demise of Ahmadu Bello et al -as i've always maintained- was an unfortunate and regrettable episode in this countrys history; and was carried out by overzealous soldiers with an erroneous belief that they could effect a change by spilling blood. Their youthful exuberance didn't let them think of the consequences of their actions; and i don't know about the rest, but i believe Nzeogwu felt (wrongly) that his actions would bring about a better Nigeria. Spilling innocent blood never solved anything and never will!

Scene 3.
As the result of runs gal's evil plans takes effect, Chime's
daughter's BOSSOM FRIEND she once innocently took
home suddenly becomes her STEP MOTHER. Battle line
was drawn and Things were no longer at ease.
Scene 4.
Runs gal is from runs family. Her parents and brothers will
do anything for money, even if it means sacrificing their
runs sister. They were all drawn into the gold rush.
Chime's family went to God in prayers. Their prayer point
was: That God should make the scales fall off their
Daddy's eyes. Prayers answered.
Scene 5.
Its vendetta time as Sullivan realises he's been conned by
runs gal. First payback move was to pregnate runs gal's
sister to spite her and her family of wolves. This was also
to prove to her that her juju aint working no more.
Runs gal goes for Sullivans life. He fell ill but as God will
have it he survived.
Scene 6.
Runs gal's juju backfires. She becomes mad. And is finally
barnished and ejected from the position she once usurped,
Wails and tears is heard everywhere in runs gal's family all
THINGS FELL APART. While is thunderous jubilation in
Chime's family as they thank God for their liberation and
family reunion.

ndu_chucks: As you foumites are aware, I am not known for verbosity. That honor would go to the likes of Sam_Ikenna, and other epistle writers like Gbawe or Kats(when he is cornered ), so without further ado, here are my short, to the point, observations:




Awolowo insisted on interferring in running the Western Region instead of allowing Akintola to do his job, much like GEJ vicariously tried to do, through his wife in River state. We all saw the results of GEJ's actions which led to political crisis wherein the state legislature was seized by NASS, much like the Awo saga created a constitutional crisis in the Western Region. Thankfully, in River State, we have not yet seen the kind of violence, such as wetie where political enemies were doused with gasoline and burnt publicly - the barbaric acts which were a reactions to Awolowo's interference. So far, all we've seen are disgraceful caining and beating inside of state assembly halls and intimidation of Amaechi by police. We hope things remain calm.

Secondly, Awo was big on Educating the masses, and in the spirit of Awoism, GEJ has ordered the building of over 400 Almajiri schools.

Thirdly, both Awo and GEJ are clueless when it comes to reading the handwriting on the wall, regarding when they need to stop running for office in the best interest of the nation. GEJ's 2015 presidential aspirations remain an open secret.

In Awo's case, his cluelessness and some would say, selfishness, kept him in the Presidential race in 1979. Even the blindman could see that if both Awo had stepped aside and gone into retirement thereby allowing younger and more progressive Nigerians to contest, we may all have been better off. The result of this cluelessness cum selfishness is the reason why Shagari won the elect by 33.7%, Awo 29.2, and Zik 16.8. It wouldn't take a rocket scientist to note that if Awo and Zik had joined forces, the alliance would have won by 46% to Shagari's 33.7%. GEJ will follow Awo's lead and be booted out in 2015.

I can come up with tens of more similarities between GEJ and Awo, but as I stated, verbosity is not one of my skills, so it suffices to categorically state here that GEJ is an Awoist!
