FACT CHECK: Keyamo lied

Caught the last few minutes of the altercation between the spokesmen of Atiku Abubakar and Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign organizations, Segun Sowumi and Festus Keyamo on ChannelsTV this morning.

In dismissing the debt cancellation feat of the OBJ govt on Ngozi Okonjo -Iweala’s watch as Finance Minister, Keyamo said there was “no wizardry” about it as it was a mere decision of G8 countries to grant debt forgiveness to some African countries in 2005 and Nigeria simply benefitted. He said it was by no effort of the OBj govt etc etc. He went on to challenge Nigerians watching to google the info and find out. He kept emphasizing that there was nothing to it.

I followed the news at that time 2005) and could remember how things went but I googled all the same. Information is power.

And so I found that the G8 debt cancellation for the 18 countries was a VERY different matter from the Nigeria debt write-off negotiation by OBJ’s govt with the London and Paris Clubs of creditor nations. Two entirely different cases.

An article from 2005 from Stanford Graduate School of Business said, “Under the G8 proposal 18 nations (Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guyana, Honduras, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia) as a group will be spared $1 billion to $2 billion per year in debt service for loans from lenders like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.”

I didn’t see Nigeria there.

And then I searched further. The internet is man’s greatest resource. If you know how to search and separate fact from nonsense, no-one can ever deceive you. So I saw this from Proshare:

“In a statement conveying the cheering news to the Federal Government, the Paris Club said that in arriving at the debt forgiveness option for Nigeria, it took special cognisance of the economic reform programmes of President Olusegun Obasanjo\'s administration.

“Only recently, the Group of Eight (G- richest nations wrote off $40 billion debt of the world\'s poorest countries, 14 of which are in Africa.”

“Nigeria was completely excluded from the G-8 largesse, but officials of the Federal Government and some foreign financial agencies like the World Bank had assured that the nation was being considered for debt pardon under a special package.”

The last two paragraphs here show Keyamo to be either such a blatant liar (in his attempt to deceive) or one so ignorant as not to be trusted with even the most basic of information. Which is a pity.

Again and again I tell Nigerians: Verify, Verify, Verify! Don’t swallow anything they give you. Verify! And if you find they’ve lied to you on any matter, re-evaluate your support. You should give yourself some self-worth, I think.

I was shocked today seeing on a keke,the inscription "kwankwasiyya "at the front of the keke in porthacourt. I was forced to asked the keke driver for his red cap and he told me.It Iis at home.

A certain thread was made by missjoy29.Where she registered her displeasures and disappointments toward Nigerian medical doctors.However ,this counter thread is meant to make clarifications about her observations bordering on attitudes of Nigerian doctors toward her patients.
The code of conducts and ethics of the medical profession are Laid down rules and regulations governing the practice of medicine in Nigeria.By extention,all medical practitioners within the shore of Nigeria are meant to follow these rules.Based on the above ,let me make my clarifications

FIRST COMPLAINT

Firstly, if I have met 15 medical doctors, only 1 turned out to be sympathetic and humane. Apart from my family doctors and this sympathetic doctor, I don't think I will ever recognise any of the doctors I have seen again. But after 5 years or so, I still recognised him when I saw him again recently at same hospital(and I have memory problems) Why? He was probably the first doctor I ever saw who actually listened cos they WANT TO not cos they HAVE TO. There's a big difference. Most of them just hear you. They don't listen & they don't allow you talk. That's why they ask you questions based on what THEY THINK you feel & not on what you KNOW you feel.

CLARIFICATION
Your complaint about doctors not being sympathetic and humane is misconstrued by your predetermined assumption about the attitude of doctors towards patients .You came into the hospital with a complaint .And there is a pattern of obtaining history by doctors.This pattern is done in a chronological other to arrive at a diagnosis. There are some useful informations the doctor will get from the patient to tie up with other findings to make a diagnosis. These informations are meant to be focus and relevant to his thought process.Whenever a patient deviate from this focus history.A doctor is meant to control the discourse to end up with a diagnosis. Rather than listening to stories that will not contibute to his making a diagnosis

SECOND COMPLAINT
Secondly, these doctors (except my humane doctor) make it look as if they are doing you a favour when they tell you about your ailment. It's as if they want you to pay consultation fees before they explain in details what you are passing through. What am I saying? One actually told me that! Inasmuch as I think majority of them don't actually know their profession that well, I still wonder why they choose to withhold & hoard information. It's bad enough they don't tell on their own without being asked. But it's even worse they withhold when asked. I have recurring ear ache that comes like every 2 years. This time around I asked the doctor (on the advice of a friend) what the cause of the problem is so I can avoid it. And he opened his mouth & said to me, "get solution first. What do you need the cause for? I was stunned to say the least!

CLARIFICATION
It is your right to demand to know what is wrong with you.Every doctor is meant to provide you with that information.However before such information(diagnosis ) is given to a patient.A doctor need to be sure of the diagnosis .It is safer to tell a patient a definitive diagnosis rather than tell him/her a provisional diagnosis.Later the doctor will come back to tell a patient the first diagnosis was wrong.This make a patient to loose confident in a doctor.Psychology plays a major role in patient respond to treatment.In addition,physical examinations and thorough investigations are part of the management process of a patient to arrive at a definitive diagnosis.This might be the reason, your doctor refused to tell you, your diagnosis, until he is sure of what is wrong with you.Since you have a recurrent ear problem.

THIRD COMPLAINT

Thirdly, they are always very harsh & impatient. You come in to a doctor's office, 30 seconds later, you are out with a piece of paper filled with their illegible writing just cos they are more concerned with what they are scribbling based on what they THINK you are going through than on what you are actually saying. They are hurrying to see as many patients as possible to collect as much money from them as possible and also to go to their private clinics. So no adequate time allocated to a patient.

CLARIFICATION
You were unfortunate to meet the harsh ones vis-a-vis, doctors see different patients every day with different attitude. To measure up with these attitudes of patients that might come with insults,harassment and threat .Most doctor always put up the posture of being business minded.Most people misunderstood this to be arrogance.
For the word "impatient "I don't think they are.Doctors are professionals that passed through training for several years couple with experiences during practice and should be able to make diagnosis as fast as possible.
