Madrid and Barca were able to finish 1st and second cos of the weak league. Both teams were poor last season. But no team can usurp them, not even ATM. If it were in the EPL, they would have been pushed down the table the way Arsenal and Man u were pushed down. The gap is too much, other teams don't have the financial resources to strengthen and compete with Barca and Madrid.

La liga is a different competition entirely from champions league or Europa league. La liga as a league is still weak and not as competitive as the premier league.
