These innocent individuals were brutally murdered while traveling from Port Harcourt to Kano for Sallah celebrations. The fact that they were labeled as kidnappers and subsequently killed by a mob is a gross miscarriage of justice.¹

We urge the Federal Government and the Edo State government to take immediate action to ensure that justice is served. A thorough investigation must be conducted to identify the perpetrators and bring them to book. It is unacceptable that such a gruesome incident can occur without consequence.

President Bola Tinubu has already condemned the act, describing it as "dastardly" and directing the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to launch a thorough investigation.² We commend the President's swift response and expect the government to follow through on its promise to ensure justice.

The Northern States Governors Forum has also condemned the killing, describing it as "unacceptable" and a "gross violation of human rights".³ ⁴ We echo their sentiments and demand that the government takes concrete steps to prevent such incidents in the future.

We will not let this matter be swept under the carpet. The families of the victims deserve justice, and we will continue to demand accountability from the government.
