$823m Abuja metro rail ready by December, says contractor AUGUST 22, 2017 China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) says the phase one of Abuja Rail Mass Transit Project will be commissioned by December. The Project Manager, Mr Kong Tao, said this while addressing newsmen who were on tour of the site at Idu, Abuja, on Tuesday. Tao said that the rail transit, which cost 823 million dollars (about N299 billion), consisted of lots 1A and 3, covering 45km with 12 designed passengers’ stations. ”The rail linked the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, to the Central Business District. ”The line of the rail mass transit is double-track line of right side running, and standard-gauge is 1435mm. ”Work on the large scale project is going on smoothly,” he said. According to him, it will be test-run by November and will be commissioned for public usage in December. He said that the project, after completion, would generate employment and boost the commercial activities of the host communities. “Abuja rail mass transit project is bound to accelerate the growth of national economy. ”The realisation of this large scale project will definitely deliver much benefits to the general public, such as better investment environment. ”It will also enhance better living condition, more employment, land value enhancement, energy saving and greater social responsibility,” he said. Tao, however, expressed concern about the vandalism of the rail facilities of the company. “Despite the presence of security personnel, thieves still operate on weekly basis,” he said. He said that host communities often destroyed the perimeter fencing built to prevent trespassing on the rail track. ”This endangers lives as operational trains move constantly on the rail track. “Safety is the most important thing in our operation. Even though we built fence to prevent trespass, they break it to cross the rail rack,” he said. dudebuck:The news is archived in AllAfrica news website. If the dailytrust archive is presented to you, will you apologize and thank the OP ? Will that change anything from your preconceived ideas? The truth is, it does not matter to you whether Ojukwu said it or not. Let us be honest with ourselves. You are set in your ways. Biafra or death. Good luck |
dudebuck:How does it work? You mean someone went back in time to May 20, 2003 to add this news to AllAfrica news website? Visit the site archive you will see past news archived there. There are other events on that day recorded. You can chose to believe that today's date is Aug 22, 1842, that is your prerogative to hallucinate about anything. |

sarrki:The best they can do, is to wail, rant, whine, spread fake news, label known and established facts as propaganda or insult people with contrary view from theirs. I wonder why they think that is a winning strategy ![]() |
Firefire:You can continue to wail. Most people have reported on power supply improvement in their area and if the Discos can distribute what is currently been generated, then more improvement will be noticed. No matter how much you wail, majority of Nigerians stand with Buhari. |
omanzo02:Do you agree that corruption is like fetching water from a river with a basket and that nothing will be retained? |
We now generate 6800MW but it is beyond Discos’ capacity”, says Fashola August 15, 2017 Posted in Economy Energy Industry Babatunde Fashola, minster of works, power and housing, says the power being generated is higher than the carrying capacity of electricity distribution companies. Speaking at the 18th monthly power sector stakeholders meeting hosted by Kano electricity distribution company on Monday, Fashola described the situation as a serious challenge to efforts made by the government. “It is a serious problem that the distribution companies do not have enough carrying capacity to accommodate more of the generated electricity due to one reason or the other.” The minister also told the gathering that federal government has approved a loan of N39 billion to enable electricity distribution companies (Discos) supply prepaid meters. He said the gesture is part of the power sector recovery programme aimed at ensuring uninterrupted power generation and distribution. “It is also aimed at ending the series of complaints by consumers who applied for meter but were not supplied at the appropriate time.” Fashola said successful implementation of the recovery programme would resolve the conflict between electricity distributors and consumers over tariff collection. According to the minister, power generation has increased to 6,863 megawatts in 2017. He attributed the increase to efforts made by the government to end vandalism of gas pipelines. The federal government had earlier approved a fund of N701 billion to complement the payment deficits made by Discos. Source: The Cable
