Religion / Worship Of Mary And The Use Of Images In The Catholic Church by dejo2007(m): 10:23am On Jan 09, 2013
Why does the catholic church worship 'Mary' and use 'Images' in their act of worship? This mantra is common among the protestants which is why they have continued to protest. I want to make something clear here. For you to understand why somebody does something, you should put yourself in that person's shoes. Millions of catholic faithfuls the world over can not be deceived or fooled at thesame time. Suffice to say that one's culture is peculiar to that person. So for you (protestants) to understand what we do, ask questions about the catholic faith and doctrines, instead of being an armchair theorist who just sit right inside the confine of his room, speculates and concludes. In other words, alwayz justify your stands with facts! Now get the point: we catholics dont worship Mary, but honour her for her kind gesture for accepting to bear our saviour Jesus Christ. If God Himself honoured her first through the Angel Gabriel, ('hail Mary full of grace the lord is with thee....') what crime have we catholics committed by towing thesame part? On the issue of the use of Images, they are means to an end, and not an end in themselves. People stand on the commandment that says, we should not make or worship any image, but who do these Images we use resemble? I know people will counter me on this question, but just read on. Now what do you have to say when God commanded Moses to lift up the Bronze Snake in the wilderness that whoever looked at it would be healed. That presently represents our lord Jesus Christ on the cross, thus whoever looks at him shall be saved. Thus the sight of these images reminds us of the presence of Christ among us physically, though He is alwayz present spiritually. What point am I trying to drive home here, we dont worship Mary, but honour her and see her as our intercessor before her son Jesus Christ with reference to what happened at the wedding at Canaan. Don't expect the story from me. We dont worship Images, but see them as points of reference. But let me ask, if all we do is to give God glory and is for the salvation of mankind, which among others are the ultimate of religious act, what is wrong with it. Do not be ethnocentric, but be relative in your religious practices because we all pursue one common goal: 'Heaven' though through different means. This avenue won't permit me to fully express my views, but you (UNN students) can join the Catholic Faith Club at St. Peter's chaplaincy every Saturdays by 8am for proper re-orientation. No pun intended!
Education / 'to Restore The Dignity Of Man' - UNN by dejo2007(m): 2:27am On Jan 09, 2013
'To Restore the Dignity of Man'. Whenever I ponder over these words, I remember my Roommates who use to rain curses on those who threw away or lost this 'Dignity' that has not been restored over many years now as they think. They do this whenever they come back from marathon studies, especially when they find it difficult to grab what they have read. Hear them: 'na only God go punish all those people way throw away this dignity way dey suffer us to restore since, way no gree restore. Make they beta bringam back so that we no go dey suffer o!' It sounds funny abi? Yes I suppose. But this is a myopic view of it. Obviously, our dignity was lost during the 'Slave Trade' when the Caucasians treated us as non-humans by using us to do 'Drudgery work' in their plantations in the Western Europe. With reference to one of the theories of Race: 'Biological theory', they (Caucasians) see the blacks as people with inferior 'Gene' pool, thus inferior in mental ability. But this is a prejudice painted as science, because it has not yet been scientifically proved. To restore this dignity prompted the establishment of UNN as the first indigenous University followed by others to enlighten and train manpower that will help in the development of the African continent and to prove to 'these people' that we too can do more than them, with reference to the fact that Civilization actually started from Egypt where they borrowed their science and technology. The onus lies on us most especially the students to make ourselves better to face the world's challenges especially in terms of human and capital development. We should stop seeing these people as 'demi-gods', but as partners in progress and strive to achieve our greatness as human beings. How do you restore this dignity as an individual

Politics / Nigeria And Her Ritual Budget Act by dejo2007(m): 2:20am On Jan 09, 2013
Budget whether surplus or deficit is an indispensable tool planners who want to embark on projects need to actualize their aims; but must be backed up by finance and determination. Nigeria is not an exception in budgeting act. Budget no matter how beautiful it is without proper implementation is a waste of time and resources. Prior to Nigeria's return to democracy, she has had series of budgets ranging from Billions to Trillions of Naira. But, up to date, just a little portion of the capital part of the budget is always spent at the end of the year, besides the fact that it is even little compare to its recurrent counterpart. The unspent part goes back to the government coffer (that is if it gets there). While the recurrent expenditure is always spent to the extend that supplemetary budget is always requested for virement from the senate by the president. Suffice to note that majority of the governed benefit from the capital expenditure part of the budget which puts public utilities like roads, electricity, hospitals, etc. in places, why is that it is not always fully implemented? - 'Bureacratic bottleneck' is the answer! Some of those meant to appropriate this part of the budget hide under the guise of Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) to subvert or hinder the approval of contracts where they do not favour them, but at the end of the month, smile to the banks to get their salaries and allowances, plus kickbacks while the citizens who are suppose to benefit from this projects suffer due bad road networks, unstable power supply, primitive medical centers, etc. God is watching o! To reduce this bureaucratic pathology, I suggest that Bureau of Salary Disbursement (BSD) should be created as a sister to (BPP) to disburse salaries only when contracts are approved and executed. This will go a long way to curtail this maladjustment. Also, much emphasy should be placed on capital expenditure since it benefits majority of those who put the governments in power. Its high time our leaders placed the interest of the poor masses above politics and bigotry. We want actions on ground not rhetoric words which we are used to in the media everyday. I urge our govt to expedite action on 2013 budget to ameliorate the suffering of the masses.

Education / Re: Uniabuja Releases 2009/2010 Merit, Supplementary And 3rd Batch Admission List. by dejo2007(m): 12:19pm On Jan 18, 2010
I personally will advise those who did not get admission this year and those applying for next year's admission for their own good not to even dream of choosing uniabuja. That school is a dissapointment! I chose the school last two year, no Post-Ume result, no Admission. Now I am a lion at UNN.
I am not trying to show myself here, but to advise you from experience. Imagine a federal University in the Federal Capital.
That school is not effecient at all! they need to borrow a leaf from other universities who release Post-Ume, Cut-off mark follow by admission.
Anyway, don't loose hope yet, anything can happen!
Cheers!

Anyway we have no choice than to accept.
Lets pray he does not extend that to school fees and others!

u leave uniben, u come nairaland come dey asked 4 sch fees. wait here u wil soon get d answer. show then u just got admitted.
For God sake, this guy needs answer to his question which this forum provides. If you don't have answer to it just leave the poor guy alone; someone who knows will definately answer him. Instead of blasting him.
Even if he is rejoicing over his admission is it a crime?,

The post UME has come to stay. The new minster only said that no University should charge more than N1000 in conducting the post UME test.

this was concluded in their last 55th education council meeting in abuja, after his appointment.

The only advise I have is that you should read hard, and make a good mark in the both exams and the sky will be your limit.

All i have to contribute here is this, whosoever the crown fits let him wear it. i think we have suffered enough in this country. A country with abundant natural resources has not yet met it's population need. i am not after who leads whether Yoruba, Hausa or igbo anybody who gets there should do what is expected of him/her. All we want is quality not quantity leaders. If yar'adua happens to win again lets just support his government and stop criticizing him here and there. God can decide to bless this country through him with his good plans i.e (The Seven Point Agenda)and lets pray for him too because it is not easy to be a leader. But i want to assure us something in no time to come this country is going to be a place to be, it is just a matter of time.
God bless our country Nigeria. (Amen)
