UPDATE: Boko Haram: Over 400 killed in Konduga, Ngamdu as soldiers ambush insurgentsBy Maina Maina on September 17, 2014@dailypostngr No fewer than 400 members of the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram were reportedly killed in their latest clash with soldiers of the Nigerian 7 division. The insurgents fell to the officers who ambushed them while they tried to attack Konduga local government area of Borno central senatorial district. Locals also said, that, they attempted to attack Konduga from two directions with over 500 fighters when the military fought and defended the local government, killing over 200 before the insurgents retreated. DailyPost also gathered that, after the attack was repelled, some of them went through the forest and were heading towards Mafa local government area when soldiers laid ambush on them again, killing over 100 while the rest escaped with bullet wounds. In another development, over 100 sect members who came up to attack travelers along Maiduguri- Potiskum road met their Waterloo when the detachment along that route engaged them in a fierce battle, killing all of them. http:///Topf6osDgH More details to follow as events unfold. It seems this is a multiple attack at various locations but all were successfully repelled by Army and C- JTF, killing almost all the attackers. Tweet from @MrAyeDee @MrAyeDee: Boko Haram Attack at Beni Sheikh successfully repelled by troops. All Boko Haram combatants killed & vehicles seized #VictoryforNigeria |
cooljude: They can't because Nigeria would not grant them access because of Nigeria's pride in the committee of African nations. Remember they've always wanted the head of their African command to be in Nigeria and this country has always refused it. Allowing US troops in Nigeria to fight Boko-Haram is a public declaration of Nigeria failure to tackle problem, and trust western media to add more bad coverage of the country.Your making sense. |
nuclearboy: Fulan Nasrullahis a retired Major who acknowledges openly that he knows a lot of boko haram elements while claiming he doesn't support them!Never knew he was a retired Major. Gues that explains why he knows so much about warfare. |
cooljude: i changed my initial comment due to what i read on washintonpost, i hope that is what they intend doing. The problem people have with big nations is just the general view that no matter what they do they are after their interest. I wish those countries affected severely by Ebola well.I like your sense of maturity. But I still believ the 3000 soldiers would have helped us more against BH. |
What really bothers me from this article is the total lack of air support and ground reinforcements throughout this fight. How can a battle rage from about 4 AM to nearly 12 noon with no air support, no additional troops nothing. Boko boys sent reinforcements in batches to the area while we just left our boys and the C-JTF battling out. If there was air support all the fleeing insurgents would have been bombarded and killed by airstrikes as they made to flee konduga. Instead they were left to freely escape and repgroup. This is too bad. The Airforce need to wake up. Not just be throwing bombs at mountains and claim "bombardment of BH bases". |
talktimi:Guy na wetin u see dey dia. 3000 soldiers. End of story. |
Nigerians always take things lightly. BH started with just a few almajiris with sticks, dane guns and a few AK-47 rifles. Then Modu Sherrif armed his ECOMOG boys which later fused to the new politcal BH that wants to creat a new islamic republic. The earlier the govt takes this as a rebel group the better. 48 Laws of power says "crush your enemy totally". The US sent nearly 150,000 soldiers with enough air power to Tora Bora mountains. Within weeks the once safe haven for Osama became rubbles. He had to flee to Pakistan and was later killed. When Boko converged in Sambissa, we should have used all our assets to destroy these bastards once and for all. Now they have spread out to various locations. If the heat is brought on one camp, the rest can easily flee to Sudan or Somalia. This is an awkward situation. This is realy a rebel group that must be crushed. Entire farming communities have been dislodged from their homes and farmlands. If care is not taken their will be food scarcity next year coz this is the harvesting season and farmlands have been abandoned. This will affect us all- south/north-east/west. The most useless part of the issue is that northerners are the ones destroying their homeland. Useless people. And they will later blame GEJ. Useless people. |
BlackTechnology: Your link is not workingThis is the full article from the site. It seems this guy is an insider or a plain BH apologists. FG should take this warning seriously : 14TH September 2014 Nigeria SITREP(First Battle Of Konduga) 14TH September 2014 Nigeria SITREP(First Battle Of Konduga) September 14, 2014 Announcements, Arewa/Northern Nigeria, Conflict And Wars, Imperial Hubris- USA, Nigeria, SITREPs, Situational Analysis(SITANs), White House 14TH September 2014 Nigeria SITREP First Battle Of Konduga It took me almost 48 hours to obtain very reliable information of how events played out on the ground in Konduga Town, Konduga LGA, Borno State of North East Nigeria, on 12th September, when insurgent fighters in their hundreds launched a two-pronged assault targeting Kawuri Village and Konduga Town about 40km from Maiduguri to the south and east. Utilizing night cover around 3:45AM scores of fighters drawn from combined Yusufiyya forces (all four groups) struck at Kawuri Village, engaging CJTF forces and an estimated company-sized force of soldiers for twenty minutes. Fifteen minutes after the Kawuri assault began, a main force of some 450 fighters (confirmed) in trucks and Toyota picukups attacked Konduga from the direction of Bama. Meanwhile company-sized elements drawn from 143 Infantry Battalion (newly trained by US California National Guard Special Operations personel drawn from 19th Special Forces Group) and 176 Special Forces Battalion (detached Brigade Of Guards), and supporting tube field artillery units drawn from a yet unspecified artillery unit within 1 Division, had developed proper defensive and firing zones into which the insurgents were channeled. At 09:00AM, 150 insurgent reinforcement fighters arrived on scene accompanied by several truck mounted 60mm and 81mm mortar pieces providing the insurgents with their first artillery cover of the engagement (the insurgents are confirmed to have mostly utilized truck mounted 12.5mm machine guns along with man portable Dashoka and RPG teams to provide heavy weapons support throughout the engagement). By some minutes past 12PM, insurgent forces broke off the assault retreating with scores of wounded why living some 80 something bodies (confirmed) on the field. A military source on the scene confirmed that over 35 soldiers were killed and dozens more injured in various degrees. Insurgent forces abandoned damaged vehicles and the Army captured several mortar pieces. Army patrol units followed the retreating insurgents, harassing them and conducting recon-by-fire sweeps until 5km outside Konduga they ran into fresh insurgent troops (estimated at a 100 or so) and a firefight broke out lasting some 18 minutes while the the retreating insurgents retreated, then the obvious rearguard (the new arrivals) and the Army recon units broke off contact, each side returning to its territory. Analysis Notable in this was the ‘complete lack of air cover’. Despite frantic radio appeals by on the ground commanders for air support, ‘not one jet showed up’ over the battlefield. Firstly for the Nigerian Army this was an important battle and victory especially for its propaganda value. With elements of arguably the two best-trained formations in the entire Nigerian Army deployed to engage the insurgents at Konduga, based on what was definitely credible enough intelligence, it is obvious the Nigerian Government was intent on securing a victory (the commanders for morale, the politicians for political points). But on closer examination, this battle and victory for the Nigerian Army was not strategically worth it, and here: This was not an attempt to seize Konduga as is being portrayed in the media nor was the intention to march on Maiduguri. This was a probing attack to test the defensive positions around Maiduguri. 600 men (total number of insurgent fighters said to have taken part at the Battle of Konduga) is definitely not enough to invest and seize Konduga not to talk of Maiduguri, and the insurgents are definitely not stupid (stupid people don’t outsmart an army like Nigeria’s and overrun towns and a city in three whole states). In seizing Gulak, Madagali, Bazza, and Michika, places with considerably less military presence than Konduga, they employed nothing less than 1,000 fighters per each operation. For Konduga, they needed at minimum, 1,800 fighters and definitely much more artillery and heavy weapons support than was used at the last battle of Konduga. The insurgents do not lack artillery (mortars, recoiless rifles, Triple-A guns), but surprisingly they did not deploy much artillery which they would have did (especially the Tripple-A guns), if they intended to capture Konduga. I expect more of such probes to take place along the approaches to Maiduguri. If the insurgents aim to seize Maiduguri, this might be a prelude to a full-scale assault on Konduga, in which case building on lessons learnt from it, the knowledge gained of the kind of forces they may likely meet in a second battle of Konduga will definitely be put to use by the insurgent battle-planners. Did this battle change anything? Absolutely did not. Just some kilometers outside Konduga insurgent forces maintain their very visible presence. There was no withdrawal from positions which they occupy. The Army did not press the advantage it should have gained had its opponents been in flight from the battlefield, rather it did not because it could not, and the recon-by-fire teams it sent out to harass the retreating insurgents were forced back under fire from rebel rearguard forces. On Bama And Other Towns Ineffectual aerial raids (note my choice of words, raids, not bombardments) continue on almost daily basis targeting already bombed-out locations apparently still marked as ‘suspected terrorist positions’ e.g the mosques and areas the palaces of traditional rulers in insurgent-occupied towns. Some civilian casualties are said to have been killed by exploding aerial ordnance in Bama yesterday and today, although this cannot be confirmed. Do these raids serve any meaningful strategic purpose? I have been asked this question by many followers of this blog via email. The answer depends on if these raids were designed to degrade insurgent capabilities or just to annoy the insurgents and piss them the flaming hell off. If the aim was the first, the aircraft are too few and too vulnerable to enemy Triple-A guns to do any serious damage. Add the fact that very few insurgents are in the towns as most are dispersed in the surrounding hills and bushes. However if the aim was to annoy the insurgents like a stingless male anopheles mosquito buzzing in the air, then the aim can certainly be described as over achieved as not only the insurgents but also the locals left in the areas have been pissed off by the air raids that seem to do nothing but destroy the mosques. Shot Down Jet? on Saturday 13th September I was made aware that the previous day, a single Alpha Jet was scampered to provide air support to troops battling insurgents at Konduga, my initial source who is a ranking AirForce officer said the plane is suspected to have been shot over Bama-Gwoza axis or Northern Adamawa State. An Insurgent source whom I sent a feeler to claims that a Triple-A gun in Limankara belonging to Harakatul-Muhajiriin claimed to have engaged a Nigerian AirForce plane between 11:00AM and 11:09AM scoring hits . Today the second day after the Alpha Jet left base and did not return, the Director of Defence Information, Major-Gen Chris Olukolade announced via email to journalists that an Alpha Jet with two pilots is ‘missing’ somewhere over Adamawa, leaving base by 10:45AM on a mission and expected back by 12pm, putting it in the air at the time my source claimed a plane was engaged by anti-aircraft fire. fulansitrep./2014/09/14/14th-september-2014-nigeria-sitrepfirst-battle-of-konduga/ |
I got this very disturbing article from a boko suPporting blog. I have learnt never to underestimate these almajiris. From what I'm seeign? We need to immediately send up to 50,000 boots on the ground(JTF- Army, Airforce, MOPOL etc) with enough aerial support to pemanently crush these almajiris once and for all. Read this and be shocked. fulansitrep./2014/09/14/14th-september-2014-nigeria-sitrepfirst-battle-of-konduga/ |

Wily2wily: [/b]I haven't joined, yes. But as a taxpayer I have a right to ask. |
We hear of "intense air strikes", deployment of additional troops, intense surveilance etc. Yet, sadly and regrettably the streets of Bama, Gwoza, Gulak, Madagali, Michika and Gamboru-Ngala are still patrolled by dirty looking almajiris weilding AK-47s etc. This is really sad. Are we really gonna allow a bunch of almajiris hold sway unchallenged on Nigerian soil above the law? |
Chubhie: Shekcow has been silent these days so I'm guessing the troops are having the upper hand based on media propaganda. His cameraman was KIA friday. |
The last may have not been heard of one of the most intense assaults by the Nigerian Army on boko haram fighters that occured in Konduga. Residents and farmers of the community continue to discover dead bodies of boko haram fighters who tried to escape with gunshot wounds but later died in the bush. Some fleeing boko haram fighters tried to sneak into Maiduguri but were immediately apprehended by the ever vigilant C-JTF who quickly handed them over to the Army for questioning and are said to be giving out usefull info. The captured BH member confessed that about ten of them fled the fighting in konduga, abandoned their weapons and tried to sneak into Maiduguri. VOA Hausa correspondent Haruna Dauda Biu confirms that Konduga assault is one of the most effective onslaught by the Army on boko haram and also debunked claims that Maiduguri may soon fall to boko haram. He confirms that more than 100 boko haram fighters have actually been killed in Konduga. Source: VOA Hausa m.voahausa.com/a/an-samu-karin-gawarwakin-yan-boko-haram-a-dajin-konduga/2449428.html |
4Play: Boko Haram stills holds Bama and this defeat at Konduga is a relatively minor setback for them.Boko haram PRO. So you know their strenghts to the extent that loosing 100+ fighters is "a relatively minor setback" right. Clap for yourself the new Abu Qaqa. |
This is a normal routine for planes to go out of radar. But BH media house will blow this news out of proportion. Wish the pilot safe delivery |

bacca2: The West will NEVER see anything good in West Africa.God bless you. |
As long as its not Shekau that lead the attack, then there is a possibilty of another one. They should be vigilant. |
BBC Africa, another boko supportin site delibrately refused to report the failed boko attack on Konduga where BH suffered heavy casualties. Instead they focused more on the blade runner Pistorius trial. If boko boys had gotten an advantage yesterday, this same site will be the first to report. They were the ones that first broke out the news of 480 soldiers entering cameroun. Useless people. Check their twitter handle and see how they refused to report Konduga battle @BBCAfrica |
I'm very happy yesterday with news of the killings of hundreds of boko almajiris who were on their way to Maiduguri enroute Konduga. But I want to caution us all against overcelebration. Boko boys recruit almajiris at an alarming rate so the NA should raise its awareness level. I believ BH used this attack to test the waters to know how fortified Maiduguri is. So our boys should be more vigilant. The Army knows what to do so I won't teach them their job. I must also commend the C-JTF who reports indicate fought galantly with their sticks and dane guns alongside the army. Goodluck Nigeria. |
fulanigirl: Exactly!!! Lies, lies and more lies. The Nigerian army is a joke! They are most certainly not beating boko haram but are running away in masses. Boko haram have managed to capture towns and yet you get these rumours trying to deceive people into thinking they are in control of the situationBoko supporter. Ur name says it all. |
I fear this weapon. Thank God NA have finally captured one of them. I believe BH have more than one. You never know with these almajiris. |
hardywaltz: GEJ is the unnamed source.Get a life loser. |
Personally, I believe BBC hausa is a boko supporting site. |
More to follow. Source: BBC Hausa www.bbc.co.uk/hausa/news/2014/09/140912_konduga_bokoharam_attack?ocid=socialflow_twitter NIgerian troops today repelled a group of boko haram insurgents who launched an attack on the town of konduga in Borno State. In a fierce battle, the soldiers routed the Islamist insurgents who have overrun several towns in Nigeria’s northeast in recent weeks, killing more than 150 of the Islamist sect’s fighters.http://saharareporters.com/2014/09/12/nigerian-soldiers-repel-attack-konduga-kill-scores-islamist-insurgents |
There is a very silly and disturbing trend in our junk media outlets these days. Someone wiLl stay at the comforts of his room and concoct a story and refer to an "unnamed source who is not authorised to speak on the matter" or a "source who doesn't want his name on print". Now even so called daily newspapers that are supposed to be credible source of info have joined the bandwagon of bloggers by always citing "unnamed sources". For God sake who is this "unnamed source". I ask because most stories credited to these so-called sources are really LIES. A reporter will just stay in his room and type anything he feels like on his laptop and credit it to the proverbial unnamed source. For example which Nigerian daily will honestly tell you they have a reporter in Bama, Gwoza, Buni-yadi etc? None. But when they want to report events their they will tell you their "unnamed source" said this or that. Let me give an example. Immediatly after boko boys attacked Gwoza, two days later Daily Trust newspaper carried a report that their "unnamed source" confirmed that MOPOL Training School was attacked by the terrorists. This news came nearly two (2) whole weeks before the school was attacked. So how credible is the news from this so-called "unnamed source"? I'm tired of junk journalism. If they don't have anything to report better stay put rather than cooking up lies just to sell papers. |
