Greeeeeaaaat Ife! But ife is already one of the most beautiful campuses in Nigeria. Instead of landscaping, that money should go into rehabilitating hostels like Awo Hall, Fajuyi Hall, Mozambique, Moremi and other women hostels. |
I remember some Nigerians on social media were saying things like: 'them no born Nigeria well to detain a US citizen' 'a whole binance executive, who born Nigeria' 'that means Tinubu is looking for America's trouble ' Some even said the USA will bomb Nigeria to shreds. Bollocks. As if the US feeds Nigeria. People also forget that the US often requires the assistance of the Nigerian government to repatriate suspected criminals hiding in Nigeria. Besides, Nigeria is not Togo or Republic of Benin. All the US Senators threatnig this and that, they have gone quiet. Nigeria is big, strong, and powerful. The 7th or 8th most populous country in the world. The country with the 7th or 8th largest crude oil deposit in the world. One of the top 10 gas deposits in the world. You no fit buy these attributes for market na. If Nigeria pivots to the China/Russia/BRICS axis, the USA is finished in sub Sahara Africa, since South Africa is already gone. The US needs Nigeria as much as Nigeria needs it. Eventually, the US will lobby and plead for his release, and the President may yield. But not by force. |
Subsidy is gone. Price will go up and down according to market dictates, primarily the price of crude oil in the international market. |
Slytiger:This is different. Lekki free trade was a high risk, unknown factor 20 or 25 years ago, so the vision needed to be sold to foreign investors. This is completely different. None of Lagos, Lekki, or the potential of an airport is an unknown quantity the way an abstract free zone area in the Lekki area was years back. So there are many international companies interested in getting involved in the airport. Also, a single Nigerian or a consortium of 2 or 3 Nigerians can finance this project from start to finish, and just bring in an international operator to manage the airport on an O & M basis. Bringing a Turkish company to build the airport on a 25, 30 or more years concession is not an optimum way of going about this. It's just the usual African mentality of selling off everything to foreigners. And you questioning my intellect What will one not hear on Nairaland. |
Once again, this has started on a wrong note. Interested construction companies should be coming to you, Governor, to express their interest. Not you going to them. When will we ever learn about power dynamics, optics, and the art of negotiating from a position of strength. There appears to be no end in sight to the African affliction of inferiority complex. ![]() |
jrusky:ÑNPCL is not holding anyone to ransom. NNPCL wanted to be the sole offtaker from Dangote so that, among other things, subsidy will be easier to coordinate but Nigerians, as usual misled by publicity-hungry 'experts' on Arise TV protested that NNPCL should not be. So, now, NNPCL is saying they will grant your wish, and will no longer be the sole offtaker. It is now all man to himself. Everyone that has a filling station is now free to buy directly from Dangote. NNPCL too will buy from Dangote and sell through its own filling stations at its chosen price. You too can buy from Dangote and sell at whatever price works for you. In my view, this development marks the moment in the history of Nigeria when petrol subsidy is finally GONE. |
I said it at the time, that it is better for Nigerians for NNPCL to be the sole offtaker. That would have made the NNPCL/government the target to blame for any price increases so they would have been under pressure to keep subsidising a little. But the usual so-called experts rushed to Arise TV to lampoon the arrangement, and on Nairaland those who can't think things through properly joined in attacking the arrangement. Now NNPC will buy from Dangote like every other filing station owners. So, no special arrangement/price for NNPCL and it can no longer be accused of 'dictating' price as you people claimed. Now NNPC has answered you people's request and washed its hands off sole off taker burden. It is all man for himself now. If you have a trailer and the money, go and buy at Dangote. You will even meet NNPCL trailers there . Dangote will sell to both of you. Everybody, including NNPCL is now free to sell at whatever price works for them. Subsidy is now effectively gone! Sebi, you people are happy now. |
I have always wondered why the road is so wonderful on the Ondo side and untouched on the Ogun axis. I believe this has contributed to occasional car jacking and armed robbery on the Ogun section. Federal government should please help us upgrade the Ogun section. |
'We cannot tolerate it any more'. So he has been tolerating it? Are armed forces not in Bornu. Has he raised this with them. What's does he expect the media or the ordinary people of Nigeria to do. The Nigerian way of governing is just befuddling. |
In addition to tax collection efficiency, I would be ecstatic if these new laws (once passed) resulted in less corruption at the affected agencies. You collect money on behalf of government, yet the government has to beg you to repatriate the money to it ![]() Also, agencies like Customs, FIRS etc are allowed to keep a percentage of the humungus revenue they collect to cover 'administrative cost'. The current system is a farce. Good to see that the most courageous, and innovative government probably in the history of Nigeria is making these far reaching changes. |
Praxis758:No doubt you were at the secret meeting in Aso Rock where the plot to smuggle in Alpha Betta was cooked. Any other secrets you can reveal to us? |
Associations like freight forwarders, oil marketers Association or whatever they are called always oppose any change in their sectors. How can an ordinary PRO of Association of Freight Forwarders say '...it is not possible, don't mind the government'. What a load of cobblers. Does he know better than the tax reform Committee headed by a renowned tax expert Mr Oyedele who is a former head of PWC or is it Delloite. I think the freight forwarders are probably angry because government policies have rightly led to a reduction in destructive importation. |
In the future, people will look back to a time when we had a particular President who took certain difficult decisions, which though not popular at the time, set the country on an irreversible trajectory of economic growth and development. |
Ojiofor:KPMG is an international company with its global headquarters in Holland. They would not appoint Partners on the basis of who comes from where in Nigeria. It might just be that the majority of the Directors who qualify for appointment as Partners at the present time just happen to be Yorubas. It is probably no more than a coincidence. A time might also come when there are more Igbo Partners than others. And I believe there are existing Partners of Igbo extraction in KPMG currently. Those ones are senior to the new Partners. Is anyone suggesting that the existing Partners of Igbo extraction conspired to only appoint new Yoruba Partners? |
I agree. |
Which one is this again. Nigeria, every day, new palaver. |
I don't even know many countries in the world right now where the economy is going the right way. |
Lol Clearly acted, but the feelings they expressed are shared by many of those in Band A. |
Electricity is certainly better, though for those in Band A, the price is eye watering. The government is making progress in a number of areas. If this government and future administrations continue to build on this progress, we can attain 24hr nation - wide electricity within 12 - 15 years. |
givedemwotowoto:Not to the extent we have now. This is the most regular electricity I have had in my area in at least 8 years. I don't think it is all down to rainy season. Anyway let's see what happens between January and April. |
oladipuposadeeq:'You're still my one and only'. Bro, this is not 1990s TV drama o. Today's sidekicks is not interested in hearing you say she is your one and only. It is mostly about money. Not romance. |
Lol I'm trying to imagine the atmosphere in the car as husbands and wives return home. Husbands who have sidekicks will be quietly fuming at their wives in the car but will hide it. Wife: Honey, are you ok, you seem quiet and you're driving faster than usual. Husband: I'm fine, just tired. ![]() |
I don't think there's anything mischievous about their meeting. The stack reality is they can't do much. They can advise the President privately but that's more or less it. If they make any comment or move that is capable of undermining the security of the country, they can be dealt with under the law. They know they are not above the law. Young or old, no one wants to end up in Kuje. |
Directly or Indirectly, this probably goes back to Mr Wike through Benue for Governor, Mr Ortom. Mr Wike and his camp control PDP in Benue, Rivers, and Cross River state. Their plan must be to control and neutralise PDP in those states in advance of 2027. They will probably also capture and neutralise PDP in Edo and a few other States where PDP is not in power. |
Strategic blunder. So you collapse your so-called structure for PDP now, and in 2027, you uncollapse it abi. This is not the way to build a party. Truth is LP has no structure in most states. I would be surprised if LP gets up to 5000 votes in Ondo. The so-called collapse of 'structure' into PDP is an attempt to avoid Edo-type ridicule. |
MadPolitician:Wema bank is not 'of yesterday' o. Only First Bank is older than Wema in Nigeria. No ifs or but. |
Wema is quietly solid. It is all about knowing your levels. Wema lets premier league Access, Gtb, Zenith etc dey their dey, while Wema dey for second league dey dey its own dey. No problem. Wema bank Mission and Vision,1945: 'If you want to live long, chop at your level, don't compare yourself with others, don't be greedy, cut your coat according to your size, and don't stress'. Oceanic bank disagreed and suffered the consequences. |
You forgot: 1. 'You are a bigot' 2. 'You support the govt because of tribalism' That number one was the most commonly used immediately after last year's elections. However, in the last few months, it has been overtaken by No.2. |
Social media has wrecked society. I remember when you cared so much about what your family, uncle, aunts, nieces and nephews, former teachers and basically everyone in your community thought of you. Now, people just don't care about how they are perceived. A woman for that matter can come on social and grant an interview on a topic like this ![]() |
I guess politicians don't find it easy to be out of power, especially if they have tasted it before. So they are often desperate not to lose. Remember that outside politics, most politicians are jobless and unemployable. One thing I know is, the day PDP or any party wrestles power from APC, that party will use every means available to remain in power for a long time. APC must know this, and I can bet they'll do everything possible to win in 2027. Only God can stand in their way. PDP regrets that Mr Jonathan allowed himself to be swept out of power. I suspect even Mr Jonathan regrets it. That's because a Nigerian President that is determined to win an election will win that election. Next time PDP gets in, they'll will not make that mistake again. They too will do whatever they're accusing APC of doing now. So, whether it is PDP,APC, ZQM, XPO, they're all the same. |

What will one not hear on Nairaland.
. Dangote will sell to both of you.
