Health / Ondo Government Bans Production, Consumption Of Ogogoro by delonz(m): 10:55pm On Apr 25, 2015 |
The Ondo Government has banned the production and consumption of locally-made gin, commonly called `ogogoro` in the state. Herbal-drinks-360x259The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Dayo Akinyanju, announced this at a news conference in Akure on Saturday. The commissioner attributed the ban to the outbreak of an unknown disease two weeks ago in Irele Local Government Area of the state. “Our clinical analysis reveals the fact that there were no known viruses, while toxicology reports have confirmed our prime suspicion of methanol poisoning. “We have reviewed our strategies and embarked on sensitisation to let people know that locally-made gin is prohibited. “We will also embark on searches because this batch of methanol-containing gin must have gone round because 4 cases: 2 alive and 2 dead have been found in Odigbo Local Government Area,“ he said. Akinyanju said that stakeholders such as religious leaders, transporters, youths, market women, and the relevant association would be informed of the development. He said, “We will start with the entire South Senatorial District, then move to the Central Senatorial District. According to the commissioner, the unknown disease has so far claimed 23 lives with ten other people receiving treatment. “Two of them have regained their sights and are back home. “We appeal to the general public to desist from drinking the gin until we are able to identify the source of contamination or find out how the methanol got into the drinks,“ he said. The commissioner said that the state government was working closely with the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control and the National Orientation Agency to sensitise members of the public to the dangers of consuming such drinks. Family / Meet The Woman Who Was Expelled From KFC Restaurant For Breastfeeding Her 42-yea by delonz(m): 7:34am On Apr 25, 2015 |
A woman in her seventies have been expelled from a KFC restaurant for breastfeeding her 42 year old son in the public area. Below is how newswatch28.com puts the news: A 76-year-old woman has created controversy yesterday, by breastfeeding her 42-year-old son in the middle of a KFC restaurant. Many customers of the fast food joint complained about the incident and prompted Linda Berrety and her son, Michael, to leave the establishment. Both finally got expelled. This unusual episode has sparked strong reactions on social medias and provoked a huge debate on the limits of breastfeeding in public places, while many customers present at the time of the event seem to have seen a gesture of sexual nature and incest, rather than a gesture of maternal concern. “What in God’s name was that?” claims Ali Belfouz, a customer who witnessed the whole scene. “I have nothing against breastfeeding, but that was pure nonsense. I felt like if I was watching some fetish type of Indecency. You have to be insane to breastfeed your child at that age. They should of got arrested for gross indecency rather then getting expelled.” “It’s my right as a mother to breastfeed my child,” says Mrs. Berrety. “If people don’t agree with the way I raise my son, that’s their problem. I have raised a great man, beautiful, tall, who still lives and stays with me. I think I’ve done a great job as a mother and don’t appreciate getting insulted and expelled just because I decided to breastfeed my child a little longer than other mothers.” The chances of winning of the 76-year-old woman would be pretty excellent, according to many legal experts. Since 1976, the United States Bill of Rights prevents all discrimination against women breastfeeding in public, that at many occasions, merchants were condemned to pay important fines to women who were asked to stop breastfeeding or expelled for doing so.

Politics / Hillary Clinton, To Run For US President. by delonz(m): 11:49pm On Apr 12, 2015 |
Hillary Clinton launched her bid Sunday to become the first woman to win the White House, and announced a campaign tour to showcase her support for “everyday Americans.” Mrs. Hilary clinton “I’m running for president,” Clinton, a former secretary of state and US first lady, said in a video on her campaign website that went live at about 3:00 pm (1900 GMT) Sunday. “Everyday Americans need a champion, and I want to be that champion, so you can do more than just get by. You can get ahead, and stay ahead,” she said in the two-minute video. “Americans have fought their way back from tough economic times. But the deck is still stacked in favor of those at the top,” she said. Clinton, 67, becomes the third major figure to announce her US presidential aspirations. Republican Senators Ted Cruz and Rand Paul rolled out their campaigns in recent weeks. Senator Marco Rubio is widely expected to announce his campaign on Monday, and ex-Florida governor Jeb Bush is actively considering a run. With little serious competition on the Democratic side, she immediately becomes the frontrunner for her party’s nomination. She also said in the video that she will soon be “hitting the road to earn your vote.” Presumptive campaign chairman John Podesta told donors and other backers in Sunday emails that Clinton’s first campaign stops will be in Iowa — the state that votes first in the primary process early next year to decide the parties’ nominees — and that “a formal kickoff event” will be held next month. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/04/hillary-clinton-im-running-for-president/#sthash.dCSvZks7.dpuf |

Politics / Akpabio Declared That Ibaka Seaport Is Still On Course by delonz(m): 10:06am On Jan 31, 2015 |
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio, has declared that the Ibaka Deep Seaport in the state has not been abandoned, as alleged in some quarters, following the presentation of the final outline business case (OBC) on the project to him. Akpabio, who stated this Thursday when members of the Ibaka Project Steering Committee, led by Dikko Bala, paid him a courtesy visit at the Governor’s Office, Uyo, said, “The Ibaka Deep Seaport, which will be the best in the country, would become a major trans-shipment port to other surrounding nations. It would be a gateway to industrialisation and, when realised, it would assist Nigeria a lot and will have positive multiplier effects to the country’s economy. “Port development will help to consolidate on the economy, and the emergence of the Ibaka deep seaport will be a gateway to decongest activities in the Lagos port. It will attract foreign shippers into the country. The Ibaka deep seaport is like a seed that must be sown to create major industries in the country and create employment opportunities for our teeming youths.” Speaking earlier, Bala, the team leader of the Ibaka Project Steering Committee, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Transport, lauded Akpabio’s administration for its support for the project, and hinted that over 20 local and foreign investors are already interested in the project. http://dailyindependentnig.com/2015/01/ibaka-seaport-course-says-akpabio/? |

Politics / Another Boko Haram Attack. by delonz(m): 1:10pm On Jan 24, 2015 |
Boko Haram gunmen killed 15 people including a village leader near Maiduguri, the heartland of the Islamist group blamed for thousands of deaths in its six-year insurgency, security sources and residents said Saturday. “The terrorists attacked Kambari village which is less than five kilometres to Maiduguri around 5:00 am. They killed 15 people and set the entire hamlet ablaze,” the security source who requested anonymity said of the attack on Friday. “After fruitless efforts to enter Maiduguri through Konduga without success, the terrorists took a different route and attacked Kambari,” he said. A woman from the village who simply gave her name as Kyallu said four of her children were among the dead. “They killed four of my grown-up children when they attacked our village about the time for the morning prayers,” Kyallu, who is now in Maiduguri, told AFP. “They shot my children dead without any prompting. I had to leave the village with my grandchildren because we have lost our houses,” she said. “The insurgents also killed our village head. In fact, I counted 15 dead bodies,” she said. Maiduguri and its environs have been repeatedly attacked by the extremists who began their deadly insurgency to impose Sharia in the mainly-Muslim north in 2009. The latest attack came as President Goodluck Jonathan was due to launch his re-election campaign for the February 14 poll in Maiduguri on Saturday. Security in the city has been beefed up ahead of the event. Jonathan, a southern Christian, faces a tough challenge from former military ruler Mohammadu Buhari, a Muslim, who is believed to have a cult following in northern Nigeria. Source, Vanguard. |

Politics / Can GMB Defend Nigeria? by delonz(m): 9:32pm On Jan 09, 2015 |
GEJ, might not be the best, but I don't think GMB is an option, this man might just hand our democracy over to the military. This is a man whose Government was upturned by a junior officer as a military head so State without any ressistance, my major fear is history could repeat itself again if GMB is voted in. Just my piece. 1 Like |
