The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Saturday, confirmed three new cases of the novel coronavirus in Delta state. Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ononye Mordi, who spoke to journalists on Sunday, said that with the new three cases, the state now has 25 cases across its isolation centers and appealed to residents to always observe the rules to curtail the spread of the disease. Meanwhile, over 120 persons have been arrested across the state for violating the compulsory use of face masks. The arrested violators, according to the Commissioner of Police in the state, Hafiz Inuwah, would be tried accordingly by the mobile courts established by the state government. Over 40 persons were on Friday arrested at Uvwie Local Government Area of the state for violating the use of face masks as directed by the state government. The council boss, Mr. Ransom Onyake, who confirmed the arrest of the persons, said that the violators will be tried at the mobile court. Those arrested include commercial vehicle drivers who violated the directives on the number of passengers they can carry and passengers not wearing face masky. The state police boss said that the 120 violators were arrested in Asaba, Ibusa, Okpanam and Ughelli, adding that they would be prosecuted by the mobile court put in place by the state government in Asaba, among others. https://www.google.com/url?q=https://dailytimes.ng/delta-confirms-3-new-covid-19-cases/&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwiso_SE0rvpAhUDKuwKHb_uBwAQFjANegQIBxAB&usg=AOvVaw32Wt2aVMN_ejZnljNwC7HW

The chairman of the Presidential Task Force (PTF), Boss Mustapha, has said the federal government might impose ‘isolated lockdowns’ in certain parts of the country. Mustapha also dismissed the possibility of another nationwide lockdown, according to ThisDay. He, however, stated that some cluster areas in certain parts of the country, would be closely monitored for possible intervention as advised by medical experts. Isolated lockdowns might not affect the entire states, but affected parts for efficient administration, enforcement and monitoring. Mustapha cited the federal government’s intervention in Kano State, as an example of how the isolated lockdown might look. He also noted that the situations reports across the country were being monitored closely, so the federal government will determine when to intervene. On Saturday night, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced 176 new positive cases, increasing the tally to 5,621 in the country. A total of 1,472 have been discharged, while the number of deaths rose to 176 https://www.google.com/url?q=https://dailypost.ng/2020/05/17/covid-19-nigerian-govt-considering-isolated-lockdowns-as-confirmed-cases-hit-5621/&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwih5pPw6LrpAhXRjqQKHZhuBaUQFjAAegQIBBAB&usg=AOvVaw1xXfbbbHXHs6aeJL9bg4Y1

Electrical and Electronics experts have called on the Nigerian government to adopt the 5G mobile technology now so that the country would not be left out of the ongoing global technological industrialisation and development. They made the call at a 5G Health Symposium webinar organised by the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (NIEEE) on Saturday, NAN reports. Speaking on controversies around 5G and radiation from antennas, the experts said that 5G mobile technology was faster and safer and used less oxidation and energy, making it safer than its predecessors. Mr. Bako Wakil, Director, Technical Standards and Network Integrity, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), said Nigeria had no 5G technology at the moment and stressed the need for policy formulation towards its adoption. Wakil said that MTN was allowed to try the capability of the network in two cities in 2019, after which the 5G was “decommissioned.” He explained that 5G was safer than its predecessors because it has far less radiation than 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G networks. According to him, NCC measured the exposure limits from mobile frequencies in line with global standards to ensure safety, stating that, as safe as the water was for human use, its abuse could cause harm. “In NCC, we have been measuring and assessing base station radiations. All equipment coming into Nigeria is allowed after they are certified. “Radiation coming from mobile base stations or mobile sets are not harmful. We should, as a country, have a policy, 5G is going to transform our people and country. “We have been carrying out measurements of 5G radiations at NCC, and it is safe. Although it is safe, it is important to adopt safety measures, even water, if not properly used, can harm you. “NCC has feedback mechanisms where we go round the country in our consumer outreach programmes as well as our town hall meetings, where we ensure stakeholders and consumers meet to address all consumer needs and complaints,” he said. https://www.google.com/url?q=https://dailypost.ng/2020/05/16/nigerian-govt-told-to-adopt-5g-network-immediately/&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwjTxaOs4LrpAhUBLewKHUMCCHsQFjAAegQIBRAB&usg=AOvVaw3ll28ZvlK8WWKddGkd3pd7

Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, on Wednesday, said he had agreed with his Enugu State counterpart, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, to build gates at boundaries between the two states to ensure strict compliance with the boundary closure orders. Umahi disclosed in a statewide broadcast to update the citizens on the efforts of his administration in the fight against coronavirus disease. According to him, the mulled border gates would be built in such a way that it would be impossible for people to smuggle themselves into the two states. Umahi said, “I spoke with Enugu State governor and we agreed to share building of gates together, and it is still on my mind to build gates at our borders, so that when we lock it, we just go home. We will build it in such a way that even if you want to go through the bush, you cannot pass. “I am going to be very strict on these border restrictions. If there were restriction of borders, we wouldn’t have even had one case in Ebonyi State and that is the truth.” Umahi, who noted that some people were still doubting the reality of COVID-19 pandemic, said, “For those who still doubt that COVID-19 is political, I pity them so much. Why can’t you come and prove that by coming to our treatment centres? We will give you access and you will come and embrace those who have it. We will allow you to do that. That is the way to prove that the disease is not real, not on Facebook.” He further disclosed that a total of 438 people were being held in different holding centres in the state. “In our efforts at the local governments, we have a total of 31 people being held at the holding centres in Ohaozara LGA, Ebonyi LGA, 72; Abakaliki LGA, 31; Ezza North LGA, 28; Ohaukwu LGA, 35; Ishielu LGA, 23; Afikpo North LGA, 35; Onicha LGA, 23; Ivo, 1; Afikpo South LGA, 32; Ezza South LGA,16; Ikwo LGA, 35; and Izzi LGA, 31. Total is 438.” https://www.google.com/url?q=https://punchng.com/ebonyi-enugu-agree-to-build-boundary-gates/&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwi9iMSP4rPpAhUKqaQKHSxKBJEQFjAAegQIBhAB&usg=AOvVaw2sGN5bh31Ix0fp-GjidIJw

Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has supported the President Muhammadu Buhari government’s move to import Madagascar-made coronavirus drink, known as COVID Organic. President Buhari had on Monday directed the Presidential Task Force, PTF, on COVID-19 to pick Madagascar’s cure for coronavirus. The drug named ‘COVID Organics’ is for the prevention and cure of the disease. It was learnt that the consignment coming to Nigeria has been dispatched to Equatorial Guinea from where it will be shipped to Abuja. Reacting, the former governor, however, advised Buhari government to encourage and authorize local inventions in Nigeria. On his Twitter page, he wrote: “I firmly support the authorisation of @MBuhari for importation and subjection of the Madagascar #COVID19 Syrup to standard validation process for pharmaceuticals, and possibly for use in the cure of this virus. “Similar authorisation and encouragement should be given to local inventions. This will save us scarce forex and will give confidence to domestic researchers and inventors.” https://www.google.com/url?q=https://dailypost.ng/2020/05/12/madagascar-covid-19-cure-peter-obi-backs-buhari-govt/&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwiDraa_5K7pAhVB6qQKHYpLAXoQFjAAegQIAxAB&usg=AOvVaw3HdomaneK1d9wV1qlA19ss

The Nigerian Army has killed three Boko Haram fighters during a gun battle with troops at the Nigerian Army base in Kopa village, Madagali, Adamawa State. The insurgents were said to have attacked the location of the troops of the 271Tank Battalion and abducted three women from the community. The Nigerian Army Operations Media Coordinator, Col Aminu Iliyasu, said in a statement on Tuesday the women had been rescued. Iliyasu said in a similar operation in the Bama Local Government Area of Borno State 25 people abducted by the hoodlums were rescued by troops of the 152 Battalion and 21 Special Armoured Brigade deployed in Bama. He said two Boko Haram flags, two AK-47 rifles, two AK-47 rifle magazines loaded with 10 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 310 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and 173 rounds of 7.62mm were recovered from the insurgents. “On February 25, 2020, troops of the 144 Battalion deployed in the Madagali LGA of Adamawa State decimated Boko Haram criminals who attempted to infiltrate a defensive location occupied by troops. In the aftermath of the encounter, the troops neutralised three of the marauding criminals while many others are believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds. “Also, in continuation of their coordinated clearance operations, troops cleared Gava – Chinene Road and the surrounding villages where they made contact with Boko Haram criminals. However, the cowards fled, abandoning a woman and her daughter who were hitherto held captive by the insurgents. “Preliminary investigation reveals that the rescued captives had been in the Boko Haram captivity for two years.” The military further disclosed that on February 24 they arrested two Boko Haram fighters – Abu Abor, 61, and Abubakar Hassan, 51, both Chadian nationals. In a related development, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, yesterday said that the Nigerian Army would employ the use of simulation technologies to tackle the emerging security challenges and asymmetric threats facing the country. https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2020/03/04/military-kills-boko-haram-fighters-rescues-28-women/&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwjSutflqIDoAhXDwKQKHVK5C3cQFjACegQICRAB&usg=AOvVaw0EAGtGSat4hf_i0minM42Z
