The immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan will be leading stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party, governors elected on the party’s platform and members of the National Assembly for the grand finale of the Governor Seriake Dickson’s of Bayelsa state gubernatorial election campaign. According to the director of Dickson’s campaign organization, Jonathan Obuebite the rally which is tagged ‘Mother of All Rallies’ will hold in Yenagoa to garner support for the incumbent governor, The Sun reports Obuebite noted that mega rally is coming after Dickson had toured communities in the last one month to spread the message of restoration, consolidation of peace and security. Dickson’s campaign director stated that the governor will be handed the PDP flag during the rally as well as solidarity speeches by PDP leaders in the country. He said: “Bayelsa State is the Jerusalem of all Ijaws and the mother of all rallies will showcase the unity of purpose of the Ijaw people coming together as one and affirming the collective interest and aspira- tions of the Ijaw race’.” It was learnt that a group, Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) will attend the rally with the aim to send a clear message that December 5 gubernatorial poll should be conducted in free and fair atmosphere. Meanwhile, Nestor Binabo, a former acting governor of Bayelsa state, had alleged that Governor Dickson was planning to kill him because he moved from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress . The APC stalwart said that it was not a surprise to him on the basis that as a former deputy speaker, a speaker, and an acting governor of this state who is from the same local government and Sagbama zone as the governor, Dickson already was envisaging his own failure. https://www.naij.com/648013-bayelsa-poll-jonathan-leads-pdp-bigwigs-dicksons-re-election-bid.html |

People don tire for Audu abi na Audi talk jor First I am not a supporter of any party. My opinion in the whole matter is the since the man died even before election was concluded (still yet to conclude) he is yet to be a winner. Votes can not be credited to a dead man. I bet 80% of the vote was for the man although its party that inec recognize voters are concerned about candidate. If I VOTE FOR SOMEBODY AND THE PERSON DIES IT IS FRAUD TO USE MY VOTE TO BRING IN ANOTHER PERSON. I SHOULD MAKE MY NEXT CHOICE since my choice is not available. since apc is claiming people voted party they should not be scared for a fresh election |

• Insurance section, Lagos command Photo: Olaleye Aluko Olaleye Aluko An Assistant Superintendent of Police, a female inspector and a corporal are currently being detained by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly collecting the insurance claims of dead and non-existent policemen. PUNCH Metro learnt that the arrested officers, who are attached to the insurance section of the command, had allegedly swindled the Force by collecting the claims of policemen which reportedly ran into millions of naira. Our correspondent gathered that the suspects, whose names had yet to be ascertained, were arrested by the X-Squad Section of the command on Monday, November 10, after a petition reached the police authorities that families of some dead policemen had yet to get the claims. It was learnt that the three policemen were thereafter allegedly found to have diverted the money and were subsequently arrested. A police source told our correspondent on Tuesday that the officers were about to undergo an orderly room trial. He added that each of the deceased officers had a claim of about N500,000 which the suspects had allegedly pocketed. He said, “The policemen are attached to the insurance section, and they are in charge of handling the claims and gratuities of deceased officers. They were arrested about two weeks ago. What happened was that they defrauded the police by collecting money on behalf of non-existent and dead policemen. “Their mode of operation is to cook up names of policemen, claim that the policemen are dead, and then collect their claims. The money runs into millions. They are currently in the cell, and they are going to face an orderly room trial. “It was when a petition got to the command that investigation began into the matter. We went to some divisions where the three officers claimed policemen had died and had collected gratuities for them, but we discovered that there were no such names. “We also discovered that the families of some dead policemen, whose claims had been paid by the police, had not got their claims. That was how the three were arrested. The total sum of the fraud is not known, but if each insured policeman gets about N500,000, then the amount runs into millions.” The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, confirmed the arrest. Offor, who declined to name the suspects, added that investigation was ongoing into the matter. He said, “Some police officers were arrested on an allegation of fraud. The fraud borders on tampering with records of deceased members of the Force. We have some families of deceased policemen whose families said they died as far back as 2013, and the families had not got their entitlements. There could still be others involved. But investigation is ongoing into the matter.” www.punchng.com/three-policemen-arrested-for-collecting-dead-officers-claims/ |
Senate to pass N465bn supplementary budget next week 12:00 am Sunday Aborisade The Senate on Tuesday directed its Committee on Appropriation to work on the N465bn supplementary appropriation bill and submit report for deliberation and passage next week Tuesday. The upper chamber, also at plenary, lamented the persistent hardship being experienced by Nigerians due to the scarcity of petrol and directed its Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) to examine issues hampering efforts put in place to resolve the problems. But the senators rejected an attempt to make the red chamber, approved a motion that would make it invite President Muhammadu Buhari to address the Senate in his capacity as the Petroleum minister over the lingering fuel crisis. Some senators from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party had argued that the Senate should invite the substantive petroleum minister to explain the steps being taken to address the key issues in the petroleum sector. The move was successfully overruled by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, who cautioned his colleagues against introducing partisan politics into national issues. Addressing journalists after plenary, however, the Senate spokesperson, Abdullahi Sabi, explained that the Senate could not invite Buhari to address it on the fuel crisis because he was merely overseeing the ministry and not the substantive minister. Sabi said, “The fact that Mr. President chose to oversee the petroleum ministry does not make him cede his authority of being the Commander- in-Chief. If we need any explanation from a minister and in this case petroleum, the Minister of State (Petroleum), is the person that will definitely come forward to make this explanation.” He also explained that the decision to pass the supplementary budget was to facilitate speedy payment of the outstanding subsidy claims of N413.3bn to marketers. However, during the debate on the appropriation bill earlier at plenary, the senators agreed that the bill should be speedily processed to complement the efforts of the executive arm of government in resolving the fuel crisis. www.punchng.com/senate-to-pass-n465bn-supplementary-budget-next-week/ |
