Privacy---You should be ready to pay £550-600 on accommodation.

Thank you all for your contributions...

it would be good to meet people going to the same school as I am, during the orientation. however, being that PTDF hasn't said anything valid as to the list except that they are not unmindful of resumption, I am talking about the accommodation generally, considering options where funding is coming from another source and not PTDF, and you might not find credible people to share common grounds with, not untill schools resumption and/or orientation.

@DeniseKendricks. usqoh is right .

Additionally, during the orientation, you will find people going to same school as yours. 3 to 4 of you can combine together to rent a family house instead of individually. A family house usually have 3 to 4 rooms and it cheaper to rent at the long run 800 to 1000 pounds. If 4 rooms, instead of each of you paying 350 individually, u pay 250 pounds. By this, you have saved 100 pounds about 48,000 naira per month.

Also, when you stay together, you won't miss home much. And u can combine money to cook Nigeria food at your leisure. You can also help one another in case PTDF don't pay some of your allowance or in academics. You can share info on work available together to earn more money. That is how we made money.

As usqoh advised, don't get carried away buying car or living in school accommodation which is very expensive and no to flamboyant life. Some of my freinds are now broke and don't even have money to process foreign immigration visa. Dont misuse this opportunity.

Thanks...the boldened is a valid reason

thanks

rent an accommodation. You can see 300 to 350 pounds per month accommodation including bills if you stay outside London. That is the easiest way of saving money. Also, university room is small and you will even pay deposit. if you damage something, they will deduct it from deposit. You have just saved 8315 pounds ( more than 4 million naira) without working. Imagine how many lives in your family you can touch with that money. Apart from oil company, how many people in Nigeria can afford that money per annum. Don't get carried away and forget your roots. Many of my sets are regretting their reckless spending while me I am still spending my millions.

I am not staying in london, and all the off-campus accommodation I have seen also require a deposit, booking fee, or a guarantor and they are also not so cheap at most 700 pounds a month and at the least 500 pounds. see there are certain things I look out for when house hunting;

1. proximity - either you stay close to school and pay a higher sum or you stay a bit further way and invest in transportation, your choice.
2. security - very very important to me as i have no idea what kind of neighborhood I would be living in.
3. Privacy - I like my Space, (shared bathroom and toilet is out of it, especially in a floor with soooo many students).

Some of these things I have listed might seem unnecessary, but that's just the way it is. It is also because of the highlighted reason, I am seeking an alternative and frankly the italicized statements are unnecessary. thanks alot.

Based on last year's figures, I think it is £1,100/month to cover all living expenses. If you are eventually awarded, do not be quick in booking accommodation before travelling to the U.K. Wait until you reach there to find very affordable and nice private accommodations (off-campus). You will average spend between 300-600 pounds per month for accommodation + utilities, depending on which city your university is in and whether you will book a shared apartment.

Thank You... this is helpful, I think staying off-campus is a good idea...I have seen quite a lot online with good features for less than 600 pounds..thank you very much

Well, the PTDF doesn't need a diplomatic leverage to that. Given the 3 types of visa applications, standard which takes about 30 days now, priority service takes about 5 working days for £550 and then the premium service which takes a maximum of 48hours to come out with a decision for ~£1000. The PTDF pays for visa applications and so has to pay the premium if it's the only way one can meet up.

By the way the list is being approved today and 5 candidates for each state.
how much are scholars given for accommodation ooooooo, please anybody help.... I dont plan on looking for a church to start sleeping in like my nysc days

Just to Lighten the mood and ease the tension............. I received a mail yesterday from my school stating that my accommodation is ready, I even got to see it in 3d viewing (360 spin), hehe it was heavenly (no wonder POTRON, didn't want to return home), but when I saw the price, the spirit of the lord came upon me and my eyes became opened... I was being billed 11915 pounds for the academic year....I wrote to the school that they should please remove the WATER HEATER, SMOKE DETECTOR, FRIDGE, AC, DISH WASHER, WASHING MACHINE, MICROWAVE, GAS COOKER, OVEN e.t.c just leave the bed and toilet for me, infact they should remove the tiles and the fire detector, they disagreed saying that they want international students to be comfortable, hian! for the first time in my life I can boldly say I DONT WANT TO BE COMFORTABLE..lmao...Please I need anybody that remembers what page on this thread where we talked about the payment plans or how ptdf pays their scholars to please assist me with the link or even the info, especially on accommodation. Thank You

P.S the hostel is strictly based for international students, although one might consider living outside the schools accommodation only if one had a clue on how housing is charged

I am very disappointed in you @Dmainman, I always thought you had the capacity clear, coherent and unbigoted thinking but it appears I am wrong. Many Nigerians from the south erroneously believe that Northerners are uneducated, this is far from reality. If you have travelled around Nigeria and have interacted with graduates from the North and South, you will realize that talent and academic potential is spread across the length and breadth of Nigeria. Being a northerner does not make one dull and being a southerner does not make one sharp. Yes, there have been northerners who got the PTDF Scholarship without merit but there are also southerners who got the same PTDF scholarship without merit. I don't know why Pressid was cancelled but I believe if there was true merit in the process almost 50% of the 102 recipients would be northerners. If your position is that there was merit in the Pressid process then you should also agree that there was merit in the recent DSS recruitment exercise that yielded 51 recruits for Katsina and 5 for Akwa Ibom. The reality of Nigeria is that every ethnic group in Nigeria tries to outdo the other when someone from their group occupy any office whether in public or private sector. If a Hausa man occupies an office most of the recruits for that office would be Hausa, same thing happens if an Igbo man occupies the office. Every Nigerian is marganilized and no Nigerian is marginalized. This is the reason for over 50 years of Royal Dutch Shell's operations in Nigeria no northerner has made director or even manager. It is the reason why for over 50 years the Igbo produced a Chief of Army Staff just once.

If we want to build a new and better Nigeria, we must move away from painting one group as culprit in our collective failure. We must admit how we have wrong one another and collectively resolved to change our ways.

oga are u serious...you just compared a scholarship scheme with a recruitment process??

From ptdf earlier broadcast this year of none availability of fund and their intention onward to commence more of LSS, I think they strategically and consciously want OSS to forfeit their admission this year in order to actualize the aforementioned. May guess though!
I don't really think so. unlike the NDDC, PTDF didn't ask for admission letters from it's applicant during registration, hence it cant be a strategy because they aren't even sure themselves about if candidates have already secured admissions or which university they want to go to.

So many useless noise everywhere. Please make more noise and act irresponsible then at the end, none of you will be picked by PTDF. I actually support this. The list should have been released by now according to the schedule. I hope it hasn't been hijacked. In fact I just sent a mail to "info@ptdf.gov.ng" :

"Dear Sir,

I write to enquire when the PTDF successful lists will be out. Please our schools are on our necks.

I will be glad if the successful lists can be released on (Monday, August 14, 2017).

Thank you"

If we can copy and send to the e-mail address. It could hasten them to release the list on Monday. Do not underestimate your power.

I can tell that with the few responses concerning speaking out here on this thread...a lot of people are hiding in the shadows.... I mean when it comes to religion...there would be a lot of fracas on this thread but now that its time to take the bull by the horn...only a few show up.....

Did you read the Post Script in that post, or you just rushed to comment.

I know of one last year scholar that advised me to watchout for possible questions from people that will write earlier, and that, that was what helped him in the English part.

But I wrote mine by 8am (the very first batch), and so I didn't get that UNDUE ADVANTAGE others that wrote afterwards had.

So my point is, there are be people who had such advantage during this year's test, and probably when the list comes out, they'll start saying several 'rubbishes', like attributing hardwork and God to their making the successful list, while exonerating the fact that they had such undue advantage especially in the English section.

Anyway, I guess I'm just crying over spilt milk.
We should just wait for the list and hope for the best.

yeah well....lets not cry over spilt milk........your friend had undue advantage, Bravo.....another person didn't and merited the list based on hardwork and favour, yet it's so hard for you to believe..................anyways we are 70% true to the things we say and 100% true to the things we believe....

I like Nigerians religious people... They'll just attribute all their successes to their God and prayers etc, they wont tell you the shady things they did in addition to their adequate preparation for the success they've acheived.

The OP of the thread you posted the link above obviously had undue advantage because he wrote after the first set must have written on the D-day of the examination. And he obviously got some tips(expos) that helped him a bit. But he'll be fast to say it's God that did it and all those gibberish and balderdash religious people say.

Look at his comment on that same thread below:

On the day of Exam some people who did before you will be like they can tell you all the questions they did for their own subject, don't fall into the trap because you probably have no idea of the course but you want to do it because of free questions. Stick to you and believe in yourself. This happened to me last year on the day of the exam, but i went for my course!.

I'm not trying to be a buzz kill here, I'm just trying to be realistic.
PS: He must have got some English questions, even though he clearly didn't switch course.

Mr MAN the thread is a 2016 thread, and what he talked about was people who answered questions from courses which isn't their original course. e.g answering HSE Questions when your original course choice in your application and study intentions is renewable energy. alot of people did that last year and they were disqualified based on that, also last year exam wasn't like this year exam where everyone answered the exact same questions in each category, plus all the scholars i know from last year who merited the award said the english part was a give away and all the questions were nearest in meaning (Synonyms), which any jambite can scale without breaking a sweat, so what UNDUE advantage are you talking about sir...enlighten me pls
