I love Nairaland! Whenever I visit Nairaland, I LEARN. I just read, learn and walk away. But I'll say something today. @shollypops, I love your analysis, and I believe there was a communication lapse between op and the 15yr old girl. That's one. Secondly, I also believe the girl wasn't comfortable in her new location. Perhaps, the kind of jobs or errands she was attending to under her new "OGA" must have startled her. Maybe oga wasn't treating her the way madam used to treat her. It's possible oga shouts or curses when she makes a little mistake. Many things we may never know becos she's not here to tell her story. Also her mum must have told her confidentially b4 she was taken away that if for any reason she wasn't registered in school that she should find her way back home. After all that was the agreement. So the little girl felt that that was the end of her schooling and so had to find her way back to her mum.. It's obvious there was a communication gap. OP didn't explain to her properly b4 taking her away. And becos they're just getting to know each other the girl probably didn't understand her madam. The only place I'll fault the girl is where she made comments or threats that she would have done something to OP's son. For me, that was EXPENSIVE.! |

I think one of the major reasons why it won't work is because, after the close of work you may not find your bicycle where you parked it. The real owners would disengage the lock and take their property. But atleast, you can always lock ur car at the parking lot and go into the office. You will always come back to meet it there. That is why we prefer using cars. Naija isn't safe! |

Politics › Re: What Is The Need Of Minister When We Have Permanent Secretaries by dennisbee(m): 4:13pm On Jun 27, 2015 |
soe: Let me educate the OP.
Forget about the fact that the constitution makes it compulsory....let me tell you why ministers are different from P.S.
One, the minister is the policy maker, the thinker of initiative, both for the president and for the ministry...so he is an expert in his field...e.g, finance.
While the PS is the chief administrator, managing policy and directive implementations, coordinating processes and guiding the minister towards existing laid down rules and procedures in the civil service.
Just to be sure you understand, a court room has a Judge, it also has a Registrar. The judge is only paid to think and decide...not an easy task though. While the registrar is burdened solely by administrative duties of all workers in the court as well as guiding the judge and lawyers on how court procedures have been carried out for donkey years.
Any attempt to combine both roles will be counter productive. That explains why science researchers have advised executives not to drive their cars themselves...you cannot be thinking of issues to discuss at the meeting you are going, receiving instantaneous updates, making clear judgments on them and expect to pay perfect attention to both the road and the condition of the car. That is also why, biologically speaking, in the central nervous system, the cerebrum is totally different from the medulla oblongata
Your take home from the above is this...the thinker must never be the driver in any organisation...and mr president cannot be the major thinker in all ministerial departments.
Second point, it is hard to tell from the outside on why a ministry has not been effective or has successively failed in its mandate....the PS may have stayed for over 15yrs in that service without much exposure to the larger society on how things are being better run. The PS may have run out of new ideas and so may have other civil service colleagues in the system...the minister comes with a 4yrs mandate to turn the fortunes around and is expected to give strong motivation and direction to the team while looking critically into what aspects of bureaucracy has hitherto lampooned the system into the current lacuna thereby reinvigorating the system out of such imbroglio.
Thirdly, when a ministry fails and the president wishes to strike them hard, the head is usually the first causality...the question now is...who should bell the cat? A civil servant who may be innocent and has put in over 25 years of hard work into the system? Or a recently appointed minister who maybe innocent but still has his own livelihood to fall back on?
I leave the answer to your judgment.
My final point is this...you cannot keep running things same way and expect a different result, if you want change, change the head. And that is why the constitution has made every ministry to be headed by someone who is changeable and not someone who is permanent.
I rest my case You sealed it. I got nothing else to say |

blackfm: In as much as the above is true, ild advice u go for a corolla or yaris. Honda can't take as much abuse as toyota and judging by your tone, ure looking to not spend much on maintaining a vehicle. There's also the issue of fuel economy. My 05 corolla Le auto tranny (bought 9ja used) that even needs an O2 sensor replacement( this will improve fuel economy) still averages 30mpg when the manufacture spec is 35mpg for combined city/highway driving. I don't see any accord beating that. 2k fuel takes me through the week with AC and enough leftover for weekend movement. That said, all u gotta do is service with max 15k if u want to stick with manufacturers recommendation( 5w30 oil-7500, denso plugs-3k, oil filter-1500 and labour) and ure good to go. The Honda is certainly more luxurious, It took a lot of will for me to decide on the corolla but I gotta tell u it was d better choice. How much did you get it? Whts the price range pls? |

Juliedora79: And that is supposedly a good enough reason why he slapped her? If his sisters were treated that way would he accept that?. . He entered the hostel before 8A.m without any female porter which is not supposed to be. The rule is no bathing outside after 8a.m. The issue at hand is what was a male porter(in his 20's) doing in a female histel that early. Routine checks is supposed to be donr by the female porters. To add insult to injury he broke her bucket, slapped her and told her to go rounf rooms apologising ( for what). This traumatic experience has affected this girl in many ways. School security that should have handled the issue and address both parties just made the poor girl feel like a criminal. @Julie, you're bringing out facts that aren't privy to us. Perhaps you have a first hand info on what transpired. The male porter was NEVER supposed to do a routine check alone at such hour anyway. Well, if the porter slapped her, then he's wrong! I dnt know abt rules of not bathing outside after 8am. I believe students created tht rule themselves. The school authority will never tell students to "bath outside b4 8am". Anyway, we live in a lawless Nigeria, and we're talking about a typical Nigerian university where there's high disdain for rules and regulations by both students and staff, and yes again, it's obviously the acclaimed almighty uniben security we're talking about, who treats every students as a potential criminal at the slightest opportunity. So I'm not surprised tht she'll be treated as such by the securities. Basically, students just need to do anything to avoid trouble from authorities while schooling so they dnt end up getting extensions. Thts the bottomline. |
Education › Re: How Uniben Hall 1 Male Porter Drag A Female Student Towel Until She Was Unclad by dennisbee(m): 9:32am On Apr 13, 2015 |
There is a rule in the hostels tht students shldnt bath outside. So the female student obviously saw the porter and ran because she was committing an offence. The porter only ran after her cos he needed to catch her red-handed. So taking this into consideration, the female student has no ground for complaint or else she will be giving herself in for a corporate punishment by uniben security for flouting school rules. In female hostels there are male porters who are accompanied by their female counterparts when going on their normal routine checks. Female porters alone cannot discipline those unruly female students. |

An idio.tic student trying to tell a working class chap what obtains in the company and in the sector he works.
LMFAO You just keep displaying your obviously juvenile character here. I advised earlier tht you keep quiet but instead you chose to keep exposing yourself. Firstly, you're quick to call everyone a student, and you the working class. I dnt knw who is dragging job with you. But then, it goes to show how insecure you are. Secondly, you ignorantly called me a student. Grow up, pls. While I agree tht everyone in life is virtually a student, cos we daily learn one way or the other, I won't fail to let you know that in your lifetime, you may never achieve half of what I have achieved, whether academically, financially, or even socially. Now, that's a fact! So think next time b4 jumping to hasty conclusions, and eventually let the world knw how lowly you reason. I dont brag with my job. I don't see why anyone should. Another advice: please don't expose yourself here. Most times its better to be silent and observe. Yeah, it pays to |

forkadict: Trust me not to let stuffs like these slide.
(1) According to who? oh Yeah, according to SAINT DANNY. Dude get it straight. You are in no position to decide what is necessary and what isnt just because you are comfortable with one rather than the other. How narrow minded can one be? Swear words makes you uncomfortable, why not get off the FORKING web. Ok so you really want to know whats unecessary? I'll tell you. Dirts and filth in the streets of lagos are unnecessary. So you really want to assist us (Lagosians) in getting rid of them, Ill suggest you join LAWMA.
(2) NIGGA I suggest you take a career in stand up comedy. Maturity is now being determined on the basis of swear words. How ridiculous! 'people that use swear word uneccessary are not taken serious, if you were to be in the cooperate business world you would know.' NIGGA, where do you think i work? Civil service hell no! I work in the organised private sector dude. Imagine, a student, telling someone who's already working what obtains in the sector where he works ?? NIGGA, you are such a JOKE.
(3) LMFAO! please feel free to take me as anything you may desire. Primary school kid, unserious teenager, embryo, anything at all. I really DONT GIVE A FORK. You know why danny? Three things. First is your impression DOESNT MATTER ONE FORKING BIT. It doesnt decide who I am or who I'm not. Second, your so called impression doesnt add ONE NAIRA to my bank account. Third, I may never see you in real life. So why THE FORK should i give A FORK about what one E-CLOWN thinks of me ? This is so laughable.
(4) Imagine you are an enterpreneur and you bid for a contract worth N500M. Then the old man of 50 years is the managing director of the company that called for the bid. And he tell you all that you said in your post. Are you saying you will withdraw from the bid no matter how bright your chances are at winning cos the managing director used swear words ? Or when you graduate, you are fortunate to meet the MD of an upstream oil company who takes a liking to you cos you impressed him when he had a discussion with you and he tells you. 'Danny, you seem a bright and i feel you can add value to our company. Can you send me your forking CV first FORKING THING TOMORROW FORKING MORNING.' Are you telling me you won't forward your CV to him on the shallow basis of using swear words ? AGAIN, YOU ARE SUCH A JOKE!
(5) Thanks for the compliment (old man like me). But my advise to you as an old man is that you open up your mind, study hard, pray harder. Hope you graduate with good grades and that God will grant you divine favour as you hustle your way thru the saturated labour market so you can land a FORKING good job.
bye for now NIGGA You are shallow minded. I hardly post on nairaland. I just read and walkaway. But I couldn't ignore your shallow write-up. In your so-called private organised firm, do you use swear words? People just talk for talking sake. It may be allowed on fora like this, but you and I know tht there are settings where you just cant use swear words. so take his advice and walk away. It will do you no harm. You must'nt reply and further expose your level of reasoning, which by the way, is so low. |
