Travel / Re: Medical Students On Boat Cruise Drown In Calabar by dennisbee(m): 7:46pm On Jun 25, 2023
Wildkat02:

The truth is that boat cruise was an illegal activity they embarked on and neither was it certified but the NIMSA board organizing the whole thing. If not, every safety precaution would have been met. Ever wondered why it’s only a few students that embarked on the voyage?

Those students are the heady ones who just strayed away for a different type of fun. From the news up there, NIMSA organized a better social activity which was the visiting of the Slave History Museum, which would benefit the students more intellectually and not a dangerous boat cruise.

Very correct.

Some time last year or so, my office embarked on a similar excursion to this same Marina Resort in Calabar. We went there to see the Slave Museum. That was the essence!

But myself and a few other colleagues thought it fun to experience a boat ride across to one island like that to see crocodiles, etc.

We wore life jackets. It is mandatory for everyone in the boat to wear it. The boat guys won't allow you in if you're not wearing it. So I believe they all wore life jackets.

The question now would be, where their life jackets functional? Where they expired? I'm even scared reading this story cos I'm imagining that it could have been us at the time. And tht thing I wore that I thought could save me could have just been some empty cloak.

Although our boat was just going at a slow pace. I insisted on no speeding sha.

Thank God for life.

Henceforth I will run FARRRR from anything water. I no just fit shout

Bank job sweet when you don't have issue. Less I forget, verify all check very well before paying out. Note CBN CAC do short, like I said verify cash given to you before signing for acceptance. #50k is poor but soon it will be increased. Banking job is sweet but ashawo full inside.

CBN CAC does not have shortage. That's a false report pls.

If there's any shortage then the pilfering would have been done in transit from the cbn to the particular dmb centre.

Even as obsolete as cad, it doesnt have shortage. Pls report accurately.

Religion / Re: Man Donates His Family House To Christ Embassy, Family About To Be Thrown Out by dennisbee(m): 11:37am On Mar 04, 2021
This is serious.

Ovaltine:
June 2018: Mum called me and told me kid sis needed 10k to collect original WAEC results. I sent it to sisi without calling her and just a week after Mum called to ask if I sent the money.
Kid sis received alert and used it to do seed to church. Same Christ Embassy.
She claimed I didnt tell her its for WAEC. No p. We forgot about it and mum sent her another 10k.

November 2019: Dad sent 80k to kid sis to upgrade her apartment as per 300l things and the need to live more comfortably and closer to school. She demanded the sum and gave the above reasons.

December 2019: I checked in on her and whined her about her upgrade. I added a sum of money. As usual.

Our uncle checked in with her too with 10k as she claimed so many things need to be purchased.

I checked in with her again and asked about the new house. She said she has paid and I asked her for the receipt. She cooked up a story. Later discovered it was a lie.

January, 2020:
A family member traveled to Uniben and needed a place just for a night. Mum adviced her to lodge with kid sis.
That was where asiri tu. There is no new house.

After a lot of scolding. She confessed to have used the entire money to seed to her church. Christ Embassy.
Her rent was due in 1 month. Which kain wahala.

Afira! Mum landed in Benin next day and went straight to GTB and ordered for sis Bank statement. Armed with that, sis confessed to everything.

Ladies and gentlemen, she has been seeding half of all the money we (we plenty o) have been sending to her since her 100 level. shocked

So I asked her to tell me what the pastor said when they received her 100k+ on the alter and if they did not ask her where the money came from. She said they didn't.

Same day, Mum went to that church. Without army tho. The pastor came out and said the money has gone to God and cannot be refunded.

My uncle adviced mum to use legal action but she disagreed as per we're Christians too and 100k not worth the effort. Esha lo ba de. Also, they change pastors almost yearly and this one doesn't have knowledge of ther seed history in previous years.

So where I am surprised is the level at which a church of God can indoctrinate their member to sow seed by all means. For my kid sis to perform lies, trying to cover up her tracks all in the name of seeding and also ignoring her rent expiration ; shows a terrible flaw in that organisation calling themselves a church.

One day. She was writing exams and called to ask for money. I briefed her of how every church during my school days do share candle, spaghetti, indomie, pen and light foodstuff to members during exams. I asked her why her dear Church doesn't do that. She dismissed the conversation like a JW who was asked about the mansions in heaven.

Finally, she actually sold many of the things in her room and personal items. Including a highend curved LG I got for her from overseas. She sold them to raise funds for seeds.

To me, I feel its like a cult or being under mental influence as she refuse to leave the church after a direct order by all member of the family.

Christians, watch and pray.

No madam, you are the one that needs to do more research. Please go and talk to Nembe elders. Don't make assumptions here. It goes beyond giving gifts to the bride's mother. Remember, I also mentioned matrilineal succession and customs. If a society is patrilineal, wouldn't inheritance customs be based on the father's lineage? Why then does the mother's lineage feature so strongly in Nembe culture?
Erm, I didn't want to post anything on this issue, but just keep reading like I usually do. But I just couldn't hold it on this one.
Matrilineal succession in Nembe has to do with inheritance. It has got absolutely nothing to do with marriages. Traditional marriages in Nembe is patrilineal(or whatever you call it). The father remains the head of the house, and he is the one that gives his daughter out in marriage according to his customs and tradition. It is DIFFERENT from Matrilineal SUCCESSION, which is a different topic entirely as the later relates to mode of inheritance. Thank you

Wow! It's been a while tht a thread on nairaland would get me thrilled and informed. I may not be conversant with medical jargons, but I think I clearly understand @BiafranNigerian's thoughts on healthy living. Wow! So interesting and informative. Thanks for the information. And yes, I agree tht most diseases we face are mostly self induced. Intake of meats can be harmful. I know that. But we can't avoid it. Well, we can, but it's DIFFICULT!
I also garnered some knowledge on the use of body Cream. We just buy cream without testing our skin first, and checking the composition of the cream to know if it's what our skin needs. 80% of Nigerians are guilty of this. What an INTERESTING and INFORMATIVE thread!

EVEN IF YOU WANT TO GO WITH YOUR EARLIER STANCE THAT THEY CUT 20 PERSONS PER DAY AT THE RATE OF 200, BUT LET ME TAKE 300.
300 X 20 X 30DAYS = #180,000

THE BARBER WOULD AT "MOST" MAKE #180,000. I WANT TO IGNORE THE FACT THAT TO HAVE THIS IN BULK SUM IS IMPOSSIBLE BECAUSE THE BARBER CANT SET THE MONEY ASIDE TILL THE MONTH END SINCE THIS IS HIS SOURCE OF INCOME AND HE WOULD BE MAKING MISCELLANEOUS EXPENSES.

FOR HIM TO CUT 20 PEOPLE PER DAY FOR A FULL MONTH, SIMPLY MEANS HE NEEDS TO HAVE AT LEAST A STAFF WHOSE SALARY SHOULD BE LETS SAY #10,OO0 PER MONTH

HE NEEDS TO SERVICE & STERILIZE AT LEAST 3 CLIPPERS, BUY SPIRIT, POWDER FOR THE MONTH, AND MISCELLANEOUS EXPENSES FOR THE CLEANING THE SHOP AND TOOLS HE WORKS WITH...THIS SHOULD GULP NOTHING LESS THAN #6,000.

AS FAR AS NIGERIAN IS CONCERNED, AND AT THE RATE OF 20 CUTS PER DAY, HE SHOULD BE SPENDING A MINIMUM OF #500 PER THREE DAYS TO BUY FUEL, THAT IS TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION HE IS USING "i better pass my neighbor" THAT MEAS FOR 30 DAYS HE SPENDS #5000 on FUEL AND #1000 FOR SERVICING THAT IS #6000

HE WOULD PAY NEPA BILL #4000 AT THE END OF THE MONTH AND SHOP RENT WHICH SHOULD BE #4000 PER MONTH WITH OTHER GOVERNMENT LEVY #1000...ALL TOTALS #8000..

THIS ALL TOTALS TO #30,000.....THIS IS AT OPTIMUM RATE...WITH ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL WHICH IS NOT POSSIBLE..
180,000-30,000=#150,000

A BANKERS MINIMUM SALARY IN NIGERIA IS #200,000. A BANKER HAS THE OPPORTUNITY TO CLIMB THE COOPERATE LADDER AND BE A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION TO WIFE AND KIDS....BUT AM SORRY TO SAY 80% OF BARBERS ARE NOT.
Bro, calm down. Everybody has expenses, even the typical Banker. Some of them spend heavily on their suits and sleeves. Of course tht is their own tool for working too. Miscellaneous must come in.
Let me quickly say that no bank in Nigeria pays N200k for Entry level staff. They don't pay up to that oohhhhh. Except you are Head of Operations or so. And I doubt if the pay is still up to tht too. Yes, you can grow to earn even more than that, but u can also be fired at anytime. Don't forget that.
Where I cut my hair, the guy is good. Whenever I want to cut my hair I call him to book ahead or else I won't get space when I get there. He's that good. He has other barbers in his shop too, I don't know how he pays them. Maybe there's a commission on each haircut. But I know most of his customers wait on him to cut them personally because he's GOOD.
He drives a nice car, and he's very comfortable.
His price is N300, but sometimes I pay N500 when I'm impressed with my new looks. Some others even pay as much as 1k when they're impressed with his work.
Now, I can confidently tell u tht tht guy earns much more than an average Banker! That guy has no boss. He's not scared of getting sacked. He can leave his shop at any time to attend to any other issue, afterall he has other barbers there in his shop, and his loyal customers call him on phone when they need him.
That's that.
I have another one in my street. This one cuts for N200. He's good too. Although he didn't invest much in his shop outfit. The way people throng this guy's shop ehn. I mean, on a daily basis. He has boys too. The only problem with the one on my street is tht he has this abroad mentality. If tht guy is focused, and can save, he'll obviously earn more than the Banker.
Bro, no Barber gets less than 20 customers a day. I mean 9am to 9pm. Think am na. Except the Barber is not good, or he's never in the shop.
If you do the maths, u'll see tht they earn almost same with an average Banker, if not more.
Talking about getting the money in bulk sum, most of these barbers are into different contributions. Some pay thrift collectors daily. So at the end of the month they have their lump sums intact.
Well, I don't know how else to explain this sha, but just know tht entrepreneurship rules. And whatever u do, be good at it.

HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?
My dear, it's true. Barbers earn more. I mean, good Barbers.
Imagine u charge, say N200, per haircut. And u cut 20 persons per day. That's like 4k per day. Do the maths.
Now, also note that some Barbers charge more than N200 per haircut, and most Barbers cut more than 20 persons daily. Imagine 9am to 9pm, my dear they cut more than 20 persons, and during weekends, it's the bomb. Just do the maths.
How much Banker dey earn? Who Banker help?
The problem is tht most of these Barbers don't place themselves on salaries, and they don't prioritize . They drink and smoke off their income and womanize too. Some of them sha.
