I have mixed feelings for the most recent headline on Kemi. I feel the interviewer inferred from Kemi's story that she is a snitch. Where do we draw the line between a whistle blower and a snitch?

To me, interviewer was looking for ways to humble her. First, she said, "I was 14 or 16 when...." , interviewer assumed 14 and Kemi respected 14 or 15. What is it with the age thing from both sides? Finally the interviewer called her a snitch. He called her that cos he already had her in mind. He could have called her a whistle blower.

Again, knowing Kemi for who she is, she was on a mission to say Nigerians who are making waves in various fields are cheats. Kemi doesn't make the headline on anything related to the economy. When she feels her populatity is dropping she brings Nigeria into it.

LOL I'm not Yoruba but I have a few Yoruba friends so I've picked up a "lirru" of the language over time 😂

Believe it or not, I'm quite ambivalent about Kemi. I've followed her at a high level since she became an MP in 2017 and I was never a big fan of hers (and the Tory party broadly), although there were certain traits I found admirable and of course I commend her achievement as first black Tory leader.

She is definitely guilty of saying the wrong things sometimes and I don't always defend her - e..g I was 🤐 when she made the comment about not being able to pass on Nigerian citizenship to her kids because her assertion was wrong from what I could see.
There are also comments she's made in the past that I have strongly disagreed with.

However I'm objective enough to recognise that the extreme criticism/hate and even slurs that she faces by some on this forum over pretty much everything she says, is simply because they do not like her - because they believe that she has "denigrated" Nigeria....Which I find quite funny because I really don't think that Kemi is Nigeria's problem. Whatever negative opinion that people may have of Nigeria is not because of what Kemi has said, but from the image that has built up over time e.g.

- PM Cameron publicly (in front of the Queen no less) called Nigeria a "fantastically corrupt" country in 2016 - before Kemi even became an MP.

- circa 2008/2010, the "Nigerian Prince" and "419" association became widely known due to scams being highlighted in the UK media

- the BBC and others have very recently run several documentaries and articles highlighting the prevalence of COS scams in certain communities including Nigeria

So whether Kemi shares her negative lived experiences in Nigeria or chooses to portray Nigeria as an idyllic haven, the British public/world already have their own views - good or bad - and it's not because of Kemi. So in my opinion, all this hate towards her is misplaced and rather pointless.
The stereotype is there so whil make it worse by calling the country out unprovoked.

Stuff that the men don't even go through

For CERPAC, you need to start early. 2 to 3mknths tk expiration. CERPAC doesn't take time. Let's state the fact we know. For the oath to citizenship, foreign husband cannot be a citizen through marriage. That is one of the reasons people are shouting for gender quality in nigeria. The law should not be different for women. Husband can only get citizenship through naturalisation.

Yes. The average Nigerian family shouldn't have more than a child or maximum two children.
In Nigeria that is not the norm. Again, you sound like someone so bitter about the blacks. I don't want to believe people who are citizens or are close to being a citizen do not like their fellow blacks. Cos I can easily tell you belong to one of the the two groups.

To return home because most would. Before these proposed changes, the costs involved just to become a citizen were ridiculously high. Then imagine with say two children. I read some still carry their born born mentality enter UK. I recall one lady on Facebook narrating how she took on more shifts so she could support her husband, so they could cater for their four children.

They go about birthing children anyhow, even across the Mediterranean grin grin grin grin grin grin

That is not the standard. They said the role met all requirements but not the labour market . The salary is well over the threshold and listed on that list. It is a role you have to get into with a qualification. So it is not one those generic roles. If it was dwp, the story will not be the same.

Today, I just want to share with you what happens in the UK job market. People here should stop blaming people who decide to go for care visa without trying professional jobs.. The truth is the spirit of labour market test is still in place. My flatmate mate got a job within the civil service and resumed. When it came to the issue of sponsorship the Labour market test was applied on him. He was told he could not be sponsored and that the role is not a hard to fill role and could be sourced from the UK labour market. He showed me the letter which i read.. This is just to tell someone looking for sponsorship. Pray for direction what works for A may not work for B. even if the company has a license. .

Good evening @justwise, @mex551, lexusgs430 and other elders, a flatmate of mine recently got a provisional offer with the civil service that requires security clearance. However in the job advert it was stated that

"For meaningful checks to be carried out, individuals need to have lived in the UK for a sufficient period of time to enable appropriate checks to be carried out and produce a result which provides the required level of assurance. You should normally have been resident in the United Kingdom for the last 3 years if the role requires CTC clearance, 5 years for SC clearance and 10 years for DV. A lack of UK residency in itself is not necessarily a bar to a security clearance and applicants should contact the Vacancy Holder/Recruiting Manager listed in the advert for further advice."

My flatmate was happy about the provisional offer at first but got later got sad as he is unsure of passing the security clearance. Please who else has gone through this type of situation and passed it?

You cant remove a govt that the people of the country supports and all these is because of the pipeline passing through Niger.

Yes. They have asked for the uniform, they asked if I know the address to send it to, I told them I didnt want to assume that they should send the address to me in a mail. Although I made the move for the uniform to be returned because I cant use the uniform for anything and I just wanted us to resolve the matter peacefully. Moreso, the uniform can still be used only worn the uniform once on top of my clothing and had to take off before the end of the shift when I found out it was mental health.

The shortfall would be the price of the uniform now if they pass it through the normal way now but wouldnt want to give details this may completely unmask me.
But can I return the uniform to them?

Good evening elders, goodevening @lexusgs430
Please I need advise. I I recently just got my new brp for the PSW visa. Before now, I was working with my student Visa and it happened that during that time I applied to care and support agency, and they responded that they do not accept students. I explained that I was already done with my school and they asked me to give them an evidence, I collected a letter from student support stating I was no more restricted by the 20hrs.

Only for me to start work and then a certain week, I did 40hrs for the agency and they paid me for only 20hrs. I called and they said it is because of the restriction on the hours. I explained I already submitted a letter from the school an they apologised that they will pay.

Two weeks later I received an amount from transferwise smaller than the amount owed normally they pay comes from "wepay(the company handling their payroll). My mind told me they were the one, when I called they said they were the one. I asked the reason paying me this amount through a private account of an employee and he said I was paid off NI. I told me my money was not complete and he said that is the amount cos it is off NI. I explained to him that I already submitted evidence removing the 20hrs restriction. He said they also removed uniform money. I asked him to send me a payslip showing the deduction that I dont mind but send me a payslip. I reported the matter to the manager but apparently they all together and people i have spoken to said that agency is known for doing that. That they keep passing you around till you get tired.

Please what is the right way of demanding for my payslip? I have never worked more than 20hrs in any week during school term. I just want an evidence for monies deducted. Please how do I go about this/
@lexusgs430, @newbie and other elders.

Please recall this story when @lexusgs430 told me to stop requesting for the payslip verbally and @newbie told me to write and threaten them with ACAS.

Update on the story. I wrote and gave them a time frame without using threat and the elapsed nothing happened. I called ACAS and they told me to write again and tell them if they dont comply, that the matter will be taken to the employee tribunal. I wrote and followed it up with a call and it started receiving attention. Then they came again and said the money was for uniform. I told them nothing like that is stated in my contract nor in the employee handbook and that if any deduction outside the statutory is to be made, that it has to be signed for.

I told them I could return the uniform to them but that my complete money has to be paid. On the issue of the salary paid off NI, an account number has been sent tome to refund the money they paid me off NI. Then, they process the salary the normal way.

They intend to pay the money by Thursday next week, please am I on the right path if I send the uniform back to them tomorrow? I dont want to work for them again.

Thanks for your assistance so far.

For someone who does not require sponsorship(he is already in the uk) and has up 8 years of experience in Nigeria, what are his chances of securing an Accounting or Audit role as an ICAEW member?

Are employers so particular about UK work experience ?
To be honest I dont know but you stand a better chance with ICAEW. When it comes to employment there are several parts. Having qualifications, skills, and intelligence is one part. God factor or luck as some people call it is another.

Would you advise I continue my ICAN in UK and probably convert to ACCA later using my ICAN. Or make I just close eyes start ACCA here from the foundation level for those with Bsc. Accounting.

Thanks
continue with ICAN and convert to ICAEW without exams but u need about 5year post qualification experience.
But instead of waiting for 5years, immediately you are done with ICAN convert to CIMA. You will be required to write a case study and that will be all. I dont think they do that post qualification thing for CIMA.

No jokes. I have someone in my brother's class in the UK was asked to withdraw. I wouldnt want to give so much details but this person worked for one of the big fours.

It was concluded that it was one of those jobs they give people based on "PR" there is nothing new under the sun. El- Rufai's daughter who is partner in pwc find out very well. Most Kaduna jobs came in through her.

Even in the UK referral is a thing. You are more likely to get called for an interview with a referal.

Talking about the big investment banks. FBN Quest must be there. Go there and ask how they came in. Some of them are brilliant no doubt but their fathers are people in the society. When late Osazie became the MD majority of the staff without background lost their jobs and were all replaced with friends or acquintance from people like Otudeko. Others were replaced with friends from Ikoyi Club.

I can go on and on. But if I do that I will start calling names of people who are are making serious waves in the society. There are people who enter FBNQuest without anyone but they are few.
