Chairman, Caretaker/Extraordinary National Convention Planning Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state on Wednesday met with the party’s governorship candidate in last Saturday’s election in Edo state, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu. The meeting which held behind closed doors at the Abuja residence of Gov. Buni also had Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello in attendance. Although details of the meeting were still kept under wraps as of the time of filing this report, Vanguard gathered that “it was essentially to discuss the way forward”. Vanguard recalls that APC had on Monday night congratulated Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo state on his re-election as governor of the state. While the party described the re-election of Gov. Obaseki as a victory for democracy, it also urged its candidate, Pastor Ize-Iyamu to follow suit and congratulate the governor-elect. The statement which was titled, ‘State Governorship Election: Victory for Democracy’ said; “As a party, we join our leader, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, to affirm our ‘commitment to free and fair elections’ in order to strengthen ‘the foundation for our political and moral authority’. We commend INEC, our security agencies and all political parties that contested the election for the successful conduct of the election. As a governing party, we will take every step necessary to support the Federal Government to consolidate all the gains achieved. “We, in particular, want to salute our candidate in the election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamuh for his tenacity and leadership. We similarly commend our Edo State leaders, especially our immediate past National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and all our members in Edo State for demonstrating unwavering support for our party and our candidate in the election. In the face of all the challenges, we collectively remained faithful and worked tirelessly during the campaigns. We appeal to all our members to be strengthened by the outcome of the election and unite in order to correct all the problems that worked against our party and our candidate in the just concluded election. “Finally, we specially hereby celebrate our Edo State 2020 Governorship Campaign Council led by His Excellency Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Governor of Kano State. We acknowledge and appreciate the contributions of all members of the Campaign Council. As progressives and democrats, we are confident that all leaders and members of the party will celebrate the outcome of the election as free and fair as acknowledge by our leader, President Muhammadu Buhari. “Let us unite to move our democracy for forward. We must put an end to the era when electoral contest become warfare. We urge our candidate and all our members to join us in congratulating Mr. Godwin Obaseki and the PDP, being the declared winner of the election. Our attention must now shift to Ondo State and ensure that we win the October 10, 2020 election. September 19, 2020 Edo election should present a new watershed. So many people have been curious about the South African song, “Jerusalema,” that this month it became the most Shazamed song in the world. Recorded by producer Master KG and featuring vocals by Nomcebo, this latest achievement is a continuation of the acclaim that the track has garnered since it was released in December 2019. Over the festive season it played on South African radio stations and quickly took off as a local hit. But then in February, Fenomenos do Semba, an Angolan dance studio, posted a video of members line dancing to the track while carrying their plates of food and eating. The video gave the song a whole new lease of life as a pan-African African pop anthem. The Angolan clip kicked off the #JerusalemaDanceChallenge across the continent and soon beyond from nuns and monks in France, to a bridal party in Zimbabwe, and a flash mob in Germany, spurring countless tutorials on YouTube and TikTok. With its haunting chorus line referencing the holy city, the song does have religious lyrics in Zulu, but its upbeat tempo means its greatest reach has been outside the walls of any church or synagogue. While there have been many variations of the song, such as an acoustic duet by an Italian band, an African remix collaboration with award-winning Nigerian Afrobeats star, Burna Boy in June catapulted “Jerusalema” even higher. Leveraging Burna Boy’s fast-growing international acclaim as he promoted his Twice as Tall album, the collaboration helped enter the song into global charts and reach number 1 in 10 countries. On Spotify, “Jerusalema” has been streamed more than 66 million times, while on YouTube it has topped 140 million views. That doesn’t include the scores of #JerusalemaDanceChallenge YouTube clips. It also reached No. 11 on iTunes worldwide charts. The sound of diplomacy Master KG (born Kgaogelo Moagi) has described working with Burna Boy as a dream come true. “He brings the Nigerian flavor, gimmicks, pidgin English, and a different approach to music,” the 24-year old producer told the Sowetan newspaper. “He has the Nigerian groove that we mix with South African style while we keep the originality of the song intact.” The remix by Master KG and Burna Boy has been hailed as a conciliatory move after a serious diplomatic spat in 2019, in which the Nigerian star spoke out against September’s xenophobic attacks on other Africans in South Africa, which were rumored to be targeting Nigerians. He said at the time he would not set foot in the county until the government “wakes up”. Many South Africans on social media demanded an apology for what they saw as incendiary tweets. Even after Burna Boy accepted an invitation to perform at the Africa United Concert, widespread dissent about his inclusion led to his removal from the lineup of the Johannesburg leg of the Afropunk concert. Following the release of the Jerusalema remix, Burna Boy shared what he hopes the song will accomplish: “My hope is that it unites us through our divisions and misunderstandings and dance together. Cindy McCain endorsed Democrat Joe Biden for president Tuesday in a rebuke of President Donald Trump by the widow of the GOP's 2008 nominee. Trump has had a fraught relationship with members of John McCain's family since he disparaged the Arizona senator during his 2016 campaign. But the McCains have until now stopped short of endorsing Trump's rivals. Cindy McCain cited the decadeslong friendship between her family and Biden's and their bond as the parents of children serving in the military. “He supports the troops and knows what it means for someone who has served,” McCain said in a phone interview. “Not only to love someone who has served, but understands what it means to send a child into combat. We’ve been great friends for many years, but we have a common thread in that we are Blue Star families.” McCain's backing could help Biden appeal to Republicans disaffected with the GOP president and give the former vice president a boost in Arizona, a crucial swing state that McCain represented in Congress for 35 years. He's remained a revered figure since his 2018 death from complications of a brain tumor, particularly with the independent voters whom Biden is courting. “I decided to take a stand, and hopefully other people will see the same thing. Other women particularly," McCain said. “You may have to step out of your comfort zone a little bit, but Biden is by far the best candidate in the race." McCain said she hasn't voted for a Democrat since she was 18 and followed the lead of her parents. She remains a registered Republican and has no plans to change, she said. Biden told donors on Tuesday evening that McCain’s endorsement was coming “because of what (Trump) talks about how my son and John and others who are heroes, who served their country. You know, he said they’re ‘losers, suckers.’” Biden was referring to comments Trump reportedly made mocking the American war dead. Trump has denied making the remarks, first reported through anonymous sources by The Atlantic, but many of the comments were later confirmed by The Associated Press. Cindy McCain had not initially been expected to offer an explicit endorsement of Biden, but she had already gone to bat for his presidential run. She lent her voice to a video that aired during the Democratic National Convention and was focused on Biden’s close friendship with her late husband. John McCain was assigned to be a military aide for Biden, then a senator, during an overseas trip, and their families formed an enduring friendship. Biden and his wife introduced the McCains to each other, They later shared a grim bond over glioblastoma, an aggressive cancer that killed Biden's son Beau three years before McCain succumbed to the same disease. John McCain said in 2016 that he couldn’t support Trump or Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016, citing Trump's demeaning comments about women. “It’s not pleasant for me to renounce the nominee of my party,” McCain said during a debate as he sought his sixth term in the Senate. “He won the nomination fair and square.” A Navy pilot, John McCain was shot down over North Vietnam in 1967. He was captured, beaten and held prisoner for more than five years, refusing to be released ahead of other American servicemembers. During his 2016 campaign, Trump said of McCain, “He’s not a war hero. He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.” McCain later angered Trump with his dramatic thumbs-down vote against repealing Obama’s health care law. The McCains’ daughter Meghan McCain has been outspoken about the pain she feels when the president disparages her father. Biden consoled Meghan McCain on an appearance on “The View” after her father was diagnosed with the cancer that eventually took his life. She has said Biden often reaches out to her to offer support, after losing his own son Beau to the same cancer in 2015. Bitcoin prices took a tumble today, falling more than 6% in less than 12 hours, as the broader asset markets suffered widespread losses. I now live in an internally displaced persons’ camp following an attack on our village by suspected Fulani Herdsmen. On that day, our village was completely taken over by the gunmen. They invaded the village and started shooting indiscriminately. The gunshots woke me and other members of my family. I told them, ‘Bandits have taken over the village and we must run for our dear lives.’ We ran into a farm that was not far away from our home that night. Unfortunately, we discovered later that my pregnant daughter-in-law and her two children couldn’t escape. They were trapped in the house completely razed down by the bandits. My daughter-in-law had a seven-old-month pregnancy when she died. Her name was Tabitha Victor. She was aged 30 and her two children were five and 10. However, my son escaped. They were living in Kano State but because they hadn’t visited us since they got married, they came around. Unfortunately, they lost their lives. How are you sure the attackers were Fulani militia?
