magoo10:
Magu was rejected and declared incapably unfit by the dss which is also a critical apparatus of the executive.

The law states that the legislature have to confirm him considering qualifications and all security informations at their disposal after which they find him wanting and failed to pass screening. The illegality is very clear ,it is corruption in itself.
I still don't see the illegality here.

We both agree that the Senate can confirm and reject candidates, but where is the Nigerian constitution that says the president can not renominate the same candidate?

Show us the part of the Nigerian constitution that says the president can not renominate the same candidate.

I know the reason why many of you are on the side of the Senate per Magu, it's all because of politics, tribalism, bigotry and so on, but asking accused people on trial and under investigation to decide and pick their own favorite prosecutor is not good for you in the long run, not good for any country and their institutions.

magoo10:
this is not a matter of ipob ,the laws are very clear moreover there over a thousand competent Nigerians who can do the job .
You build strong institutions not strong men.

Magu alone cannot fight corruption neither can going against the laws do except you are a tyrant or military dictator which is not the system of government.
Where is the illegality?

Please show us the illegality via the Nigerian constitution that says the president can not renominate candidates.

A weak and corrupt institution is letting accused people under investigation and trial pick and chose their own prosecutor.

efcc establishment act 2004 section 3 says

"(3) The Chairman and members of the Commission other than ex-officio members shall be appointed by the President and the appointment shall he subject to the confirmation of the Senate."

if the chairman and members are not confirmed Mr president is ............
You rightfully quoted the Senate's constitutional obligation to confirm or reject executive nominations, but not the executive powers and prerogative to nominate and keep nominating any candidate they desire including Magu.

There is no law under the Nigerian constitution that says the executive cannot keep nominating and sending the same candidate for confirmation.

The Senate is free to keep rejecting Magu, it is their choice per the constitution, but they can not prevent the executive from nominating the same Magu over and over and over and over again.

Bottomline, this ruling means a lot to the Senate, but it means nothing to the President of Nigeria and it doesn't say and can never say the President of Nigeria can not renominate the same candidate.

Now, the Senate should never be allowed to approve heads of agencies like EFCC especially considering the fact that many members of the Senate are under investigation by the same EFCC/Magu, even the Senate president himself.

It's like asking the armed robber to pick and chose his own favorite prosecutor and deciding Judge. It's called conflict of interest.

The Senate by the deciding to place an embargo on Executive nomination approval is unconstitutional and illegal blackmail, they have to do their job which is to confirm or reject nominees.

The President per his powers and equal powers regarding separation of powers has the upper hand and al the Senate can do is to keep saving face with meaningless court judgments and tantrums.

The Nigerian Senate in it's present form is rubbish, unfocused, corrupt, materialistic, self-serving and incompetent.

So, for all you ignorant people making noise here, your states are doing the same thing or even worse since you are already poor.

While Lagos can afford to do it, your poor states can not, this why their recurrent expenditure are always larger than capital expenditure.

The commission has approved payment of 300% basic salary as severance allowances for political office holders on leaving office.
However, various state assemblies had approved a wide range of entitlements for governors that will enable them live in comfort for life at the expense of tax payers.

The outgoing governors are Babatunde Fashola (Lagos), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (Kano), Ibrahim Shema (Katsina) Ramalan Yero (Kaduna), Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Isa Yuguda (Bauchi), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Saidu Dakingari (Kebbi), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), Bala Nggilari (Adamawa), Danbaba Suntai (Taraba), Gabriel Suswam (Benue), Jonah Jang (Plateau), Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Martins Elechi (Ebonyi), Sullivan Chime (Enugu), Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta), Theodore Orji (Abia), and Liyel Imoke (Cross River).

RIVERS: 3 NEW CARS EVERY 4 YEARS

The Rivers State Pensions for Governor and Deputy Governor was passed in 2012. For all the wealth of the state, the conditions are a bit modest. A former governor is entitled to just one house “anywhere in Nigeria” and three new cars every four years. There will be free medical care (no cap) for the former governor and deputy and their families ─ which cover both married and unmarried children. Interestingly, like Lagos, there will be a cook, steward and gardener but unlike Lagos, they are not pensionable.

THE BENEFITS

Annual Basic Salary: 100% of annual basic salaries of the incumbent governor and deputy.

Accommodation: One residential house for former governor “anywhere of his choice in Nigeria”; one residential house anywhere in Rivers for the deputy.

Transport: Three cars for the ex-governor every four years; two cars for the deputy every four years.

Furniture: 300% of annual basic salary every four years “en bloc”.

House maintenance: 10% of annual basic salary.

Domestic staff: Cook, steward, gardener and other domestic staff (no limit) who shall be non-pensionable.

Medical: Free medical treatment for ex-governor and deputy and members of their families (not just spouses and no cap).

Security: Two SSS operatives, four policemen (two each for house and personal security) for the ex-governor; one SSS operative and two policemen (one each for house and personal security).

PA: 25% of annual basic salary.

Car maintenance: 30% of annual basic salary.

Entertainment: 10% of annual basic salary.

Utility: 20% of annual basic salary.

Drivers: Non-pensionable (no limit to number of drivers).

Severance gratuity: Not specifi

AKWA IBOM: N100M FOR MEDICAL

The law in Akwa Ibom, which was first passed in 1998, provides free medical treatment for ex-governors, their spouses, ex-deputy governors and their spouses. Until the controversial amendment that was done in April, there was no cap for the expenses. The law said “free medical treatment”. In effect, an ex-governor could spend N500 million or more on medical per year. With the amendment, however, a former governor and spouse could not spend more than N100 million a year, and a former deputy and spouse a maximum of N30 million. Widows/widowers of former governors are entitled to N12 million a year, while those of deputy governors would get N6 million.

THE BENEFITS

Annual Basic Salary: 100% of annual basic salaries of the incumbent governor and deputy.

Accommodation: One house not below 5-bed maisonette in either Abuja or Akwa Ibom for the former governor; 500% annual basic for the deputy.
Transport: One car and one utility car every four years for ex-governor and deputy.

Furniture: 300% of annual basic salary every four years.

House maintenance: Nil.

Domestic staff: Amount not above N5 million for ex-governor and N2.5 million for ex-deputy to employ cook, chauffeurs and security.

Medical: Free treatment and spouse not exceeding N100 million per year for ex-governor; N30 million per deputy (this provision will soon be reverted to “free” without limit following outcry).

Security: “Adequate” (not specified).

PA: One.

Car maintenance: 300% of annual basic salary.

Entertainment: 100% of annual basic salary.

Utility: 100% of annual basic salary.

Drivers: Amount not above N5 million for ex-governor and N2.5 million for ex-deputy to employ cook, chauffeurs and security.

Severance gratuity: 300% annual basic salary.

Why is it so hard to believe?
By Lagos assembly enacted law,and many other state governments for that matter, governors are entitled to be built houses, fully furnished in any part of Lagos and any other part of Nigeria.Their deputies I think have a choice of just one location.
1. All the states in Nigeria have the same compensation laws that give immoral benefits to their former governors so this is not limited to Lagos state.

Thet all gets 1 house in Abuja and another in their state, because they all have the same laws built into their constitutions, even in your own state too if you are not from Lagos.

2. The fact that Lagos state built of gave Fashola a house in his state is not the issue because I know they did based in their constitution, the issue is the fake pictures the crooked lying OP is trying to mislead people with.

5. The fact that the lying OP refused to produce his source basically mean he is lying.

4. Don't always accept and swallow unconfirmed, baseless and sourceless info on the internet like the sourceless pictures the OP is trying to fool you with.

FORMER PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN SPEAKS OUT...

I Didn't Hand Over A Collapsed Nation To Buhari - Dr. Goodluck Jonathan:

- Former President, Goodluck Jonathan has replied his critics who accused him of handing over a nation at the verge of collapse to his successor, President Muhammadu Buhari.

- Jonathan recounted the achievements of his government to include, handing over a country that produced the richest man in Africa.

- Jonathan said, “I took over a Nigeria that was the second largest economy in Africa with a GDP of $270.5 billion in 2009,

- I handed over a Nigeria that had grown to become the largest economy in Africa and the 24th largest economy in the World with a GDP of $574 billion.

- I handed over dollar exchange rate of N187 per Dollar official rate in our banks, compared to their N360 now official rate for a Dollar

-“I inherited a Nigeria in which the trains were not working, and handed over a Nigeria in which citizens can safely travel by trains again.

- I also inherited a country where illiteracy rate particularly in the Northern part was alarming.

- I handed over a country where every state in the North and indeed all the states had a Federal University. I inherited a country where there was total infrastructural decay in all the unity schools and colleges of education.

- But I handed over a country with massive infrastructural improvement in almost higher institutions.

- I inherited a country where agricultural inputs and production were almost zero.

- But I handed over a country where a bag of rice was sold for N6,500 to N7000.

- My regime since the establishment of ecological fund office did more irrigation dams in the North and other parts of the country than other subsequent administrations put together.

- I inherited epileptic fuel supplies resulting to endless queues at the filling stations. I maintained despite enormous challenges of fuel subsidies and handed over a relatively stable fuel regime and also at a managed local price of N87 per litre.

- I inherited a Nigeria that was a net importer of cement, and handed over a Nigeria that is a net exporter of cement.

- In 2009 the richest Nigerian was the 5th richest man in Africa, but I handed over a Nigeria that produced the richest man in Africa.

- The former President further stated " I inherited a country where people were almost losing hope on the credibility of its electoral process but I noticed that democracy will continue to grow in the African continent if leaders value the process of elections more than the product of the process. I handed over electoral process that engendered fairness in its conduct and conclusiveness ".

- He said, “Even in the 2015 general elections in my country, Nigeria, there was potential for major crisis if I was not a President duly elected by the will of the people.

- “The campaigns leading to the elections almost polarized the country into Christian vs Muslims and North vs South divide.

- Most World leaders were worried that our elections will result into major crisis.
Some pundits even from here in the United States said that those elections would spell the end of Nigeria and that we would cease to exist as a nation because of the polls.

- That is where the leadership question comes into play.

- As a leader that was duly elected by the people, I considered the people’s interest first.

- How do I manage my people to avoid killings and destruction of properties?

- With the interest of the people propelling all the decisions I took, we were able to sail through.

- Indeed, we sailed through because I refused to interfere with the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission, 'INEC', having appointed a man I had never met in my life to run it. We sailed through because I maintained and still believe that my personal ambition, interest is not worth the blood of any single Nigerian.

- My philosophy was simple. For elections to be credible, I as a leader, must value the process more than the product of the process. And the citizens must have confidence in the electoral body.

- Pls circulate it for them to know. The deceit is getting too much

Nearly all the igbo electorates are PDP and the PDP have zoned their next presidential candidate to the North, that means if they win (They won't of course.) igbo presidency in 2023 won't happen.

PDP, the party you belong to sold your spot already.

They don't dash presidency on a platter of gold, you have to fight for it, you have to reach out to other people and region, you have to form allaince/s with other people or even other political parties since your region doesn't have enough votes to win outright. I don't even see Northern voters and even many in the SW voting for any igbo candidate simply because of your insulting, abusive ways and odious attitude towards other people.

Sadly, these are the terms and realities the igbo voters and politicians are yet to come to terms with.
