I lived with my tenants until I moved after few years.
They loved having us around. There was no issue for once because I understood their rights and they tamed their excesses to an acceptable level.
I think if we're all humane, there would be no issue at all whether living in the same plot with landlord or not.
Treating other people's property as yours is the easiest way to curtail one's excesses which we all have.

What about the excesses of living out their youthful exuberance, being adults and discovering themselves.
