From all the comments, I can say rightly Nigerians hate to read and lack intentional investigative desire to scrutinize what they read. The body of language and it's meaning, both contextual and literal, has no relationship whatsoever with the Chioma Okoli except it's written there and my eyes omitted it by mistake. The Nasarawa State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has approved the demotion and dismissal of Chief Magistrate Emmanuel A. Jatau, who previously served in Masaka, Nasarawa State.

Jatau has been downgraded from Chief Magistrate II (GL 15) to Senior Magistrate I (GL 14) and relieved of all magisterial duties.

Meanwhile, the decision followed a recommendation by the Committee for Appointments, Promotions, and Discipline (CAPD).

The disciplinary action was prompted by a petition from Nigerian human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, submitted in August 2024 to the Honourable Chief Judge of Nasarawa State.

Effiong accused Jatau of judicial misconduct, forgery, illegality, and abuse of power.

He stated that the Magistrate Court in Masaka bore an official filing stamp from the Federal High Court (FHC) in Lagos, signed by a staff member of the FHC, Lagos, identified as M. Tofowomo-Adegbite (Mr.), and dated January 8, 2024.

Agreement is signed only for the current year, and the landlords give notice of increment of the next year within this current year.
Or do you think they sign for other years in advance or that the one signed in the beginning/current year covers for all others?

You don't have any agreement with the landlord for the coming years that are outside the current agreement.

On the evening of Friday November 29, the third day of my detention by the army at the 6 Div Port Harcourt, an officer reached out to the department holding me to say two lawyers were looking for me.

It was my third straight day without communication with the outside world, so I was unaware anyone would come calling. I hadn’t had any contact with any Port Harcourt lawyers. Therefore, I disowned them.

Hours later, when the army finally granted me access to my phone in what was the first inkling of my imminent freedom, I rang someone very briefly (won’t tell you who that was), then I rang my Lagos-based lawyer Abimbola Ojenike. Surprisingly, those two Port Harcourt lawyers were from him. Those lawyers had arrived at the 6 Div, which, by the way, is far from the city centre, before the army’s decision to set me free. For context, news of my arrest became public late morning; the lawyers were at the 6 Div early afternoon. With the benefit of hindsight, that could only have been Abimbola Ojenike.

And to fight them off, you need, among others, a brilliant lawyer who understands your work, values it, is personally invested, is a warrior and, of the highest significance, is incorruptible. In Ojenike, I have all that and more.

When IBD Dende, who had sued me earlier in the year, for example, sought to withdraw the case in October, my instant feeling was ‘no way’. If you sue me, we cannot abandon it halfway; we must see it to the end. My lawyer needed no convincing; he thought exactly as I did.

Outside all that is the unquantifiable time he invests in the non-legal backend of my journalism, my safety and our work at @fijnigeria — the things unfit for public consumption.
