Dangote refinery, NUPRC trade words over crude oil allocation
By Dare Olawin
The PUNCH reports that the Dangote Group on Thursday, accused the NUPRC of failing to enforce the Domestic Crude Supply Obligations.
Reacting, the NUPRC debunked the claim on Friday, stating that it facilitated the supply of over 29 million barrels of crude oil to Dangote Refinery from January to June 2024.
However, in a swift response, the Dangote Refinery said it did not receive any 29mb of crude.
The NUPRC on Friday, explained that as part of its commitment to ensure the enforcement of Section 109 of the Petroleum Industry Act, 2021, nine refineries have benefitted from the 32,088,122 barrels of crude as Dangote alone enjoyed 29,047,098 barrels out of the total supply between January to June 2024,” NUPRC added.
Meanwhile, the management of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery maintained that refineries in Nigeria should be allowed to buy crude directly from the companies that produce it in Nigeria rather than from international middlemen, as enshrined in the PIA.
Spokesperson for the Dangote Group, Anthony Chiejina, said Friday night, “We are in receipt of NUPRC’s statement that they have facilitated the allocation of 29 million barrels of crude oil to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals in January to June 2024, we would like to thank them for this allocation but at the same time, we wish to let them know that we are yet to receive these cargoes. . All the refinery is asking for is for refineries in Nigeria to buy crude directly from the companies that produce it in Nigeria rather than from international middlemen.
The PUNCH recalls that the management of the Dangote Group had alleged that the IOCs were still frustrating crude supply to the 650,000-capacity refinery.
The group alleged that the IOCs insisted on selling crude oil to its refinery through their foreign agents, saying the local price of crude will continue to increase because the trading arms offer cargoes at $2 to $4 per barrel, above NUPRC’s official price. They also alleged that the foreign oil producers seem to be prioritising Asian countries in selling the crude they produce in Nigeria.
Earlier, the President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, denied the monopoly allegation, wondering how he could be a monopoly when the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited is renovating government-owned refineries with $4bn.
RealLordZeus: I told one stubborn nl that this matter will be resolved, the guy drag me like generator, make I go find him
DesChyko abi wetin be your name, you see your life..
Sincere apologies for not letting you know the judgement on your mental state was already passed on August 5th. You can file for appeal so we can hear your case again.
Whose idea was it to claim all the crude had been sold far into the future and what was the rationale behind it? Some takes should not just disappear without query.
It's common sense that Nigerian crude must be enjoyed by Nigerians and since Dangote is the only one prioritizing local production for now, it's a no-brainer.
Once the price of petrol goes down and Dangote is allowed to drink water by the oil cartel, we moved to dragging the FG balls until they either sell off the refineries to serious humans or get them working.
One man cannot have more sense than the entire FG.
DevilsEqual: Festacman should come over and tribalise this as usual
To them, the Govt is suddenly doing everything within their power to sabotage the same firm they are suppling to
A lil issue between those two groups and all they could see is "If they could frustrate a business owner from a major tribe, then minority investors have no hope"
Shhh.. This is what we wanted; for Dangote to be let alone. Stop trying to claim this win. Stay where you were. It is Dangote that spilt the milk on National TV over what you call a "lil issue", not festacman. Did you also hear when he exposed that the 20% share you people said FG acquired to use to bring down petrol price is actually 7%? 😒😒
Fanatic sycophants who can't ask the right questions.
Headfort Foundation For Justice Comes To Dele Lawal's Aid After Illegal Detention
Dare Lawal a 35-year-old man from Ogun State, is married with two children and a vulcanizer/motorcycle rider. On the 2nd day of May 2024, Dare was on his way to his friend's house along Eleweran in Abeokuta to carry his motorcycle when he was raided by some policemen and taken to the police station.
At the station, Dare was asked series of questions if he knew any person called “Mighty”, if he had ever carried such a person as a passenger, and if he was a member of any cult group which he responded in the negative. The police searched Dare thoroughly but nothing incriminating was found on him.
Even though nothing was found on Dare and he could not be linked to any crime, he was charged and arraigned in court on the 13th day of May 2024 after 10days in police custody. He was charged with 2 other persons that he has never met before for conspiracy to commit crime, for belonging to an unlawful society and for breach of peace.
He was granted bail in the sum of 500,000 and a surety who must be a licensed bondsman. However, his bail could not be perfected due to financial constraints and all efforts to get his family proved abortive as his phone had been confiscated by the police.
On the 5th day of July 2024, our lawyer took on the case and made an application to the court that the matter be struck out as there was no evidence linking Dare to the offence and the court after perusing the statement of the defendant struck out the charges against Dare after he spent about 2months in prison for no just cause.
Dare was arrested and detained without incriminating evidence, violating his right to liberty and freedom from arbitrary arrest. The arrest and detention of Dare without evidence raise questions about the police's conduct and potential abuse of power, which could lead to wrongful convictions of innocent citizens of Nigeria. The Nigeria Police Force must ensure that prosecutions are based on credible evidence, not speculation.

OnlineTeacher: The ppl on behalf of whom lagospedia is speaking
You mean people like this who subtly accepted what he did is punishable 👇🏾
GeneralPula: All that matters is that he has been penalized..
Or the ones who outrightly condemned Lagospedia and you proceeded to call them 'Yoruba buts' ? Nah bro. You have an inner problem since you even reject your tribesmen alongside the Igbo tribe. Your healing does not lie with me.
OnlineTeacher: Of what relevance is dt to my question? Ok, no!
Because any avid X user would know that when accounts are deleted, the posts go with them. So you can understand how your request for Lagospedia posts sounds 😁😁
OnlineTeacher: Kanu had asked for the attack/killings of Yorubas both in alaigbo and also inside their own land in sw
Oh great! So you're comparing Lagospedia to Kanu for this reason. So why are you angry he is being penalised?
Wisdomkosi: Another eyewitness also lamanted the same thing and cried out to the state government for help.
According to him,"today at Ebonyi state International Market, while I was going from Lot 2 to lot 4 toward that axis that they sales yam, I saw a crowd of people."
"Some were chanting " mesieya ike mesieya ike" in excitement. I decided to go close to the crowd to know what's was actually going on."
" I saw a very beautiful fair tall lady with mini-skirt putting on a singlet with her nîpple boldly opened. Immediately my eyes just grasped it and I couldnt behold it. "
" She was on the floor crying. I imagined what could make a beautiful lady like her to be wéeping. I was patiently waiting only to see a màdman trying to penetrate the lady in a public. "
"She was helpless as the crowd was cheering the màdman. Her white singlet has stained already as the man tried to squeeze her bréàst. I couldn't help but to walk away."
With the hugely significant role this account played in churning out Igbo hate pre-elections, I'm surprised at this denial. 🤣🤣
Receipts plenty. Evidence choke.
Tjra: It's a way of gathering intelligence and intel. Like they say draw your friends close but your enemies closer.
So the retweeting of their posts are also gathering intel and drawing enemies close abi? Let's see if your lies will survive the next election cycle. Gathering evidence isonu.
The Lagos State government may have officially disowned@Lagospediathe social media account that infamously propagated hate speech against the Igbo and called for them to be expelled from the southwest. However, many of its appointees followed the handle — sometimes even retweeting it — until it became extinct, following extended focus on its violations of the constitutional right to freedom of where to live.
On Friday, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu distanced his administration from Lagospedia’s hate comments, Gboyega Akosile, his special adviser on media and publicity, signing a statement that branded the handle’s comments as “reckless, divisive and a dangerous rhetoric”.
However, Àkọsílẹ̀, himself was a follower of Lagospedia. In fact, he was still following the handle as he posted the state government’s statement on Friday.
Jubril Gawat, Sanwo-Olu’s senior special assistant on new media; Wale Ajetunmobi, senior special assistant on media; and Alabi Opeyemi Oladimeji, senior special assistant on youth mobilisation to Sanwo-Olu, were all following Lagospedia on X before it was deactivated.
FIJ also recalls that Akosile and Ajetunmobi engaged the handle positively in the past.
After FIJ’s viral report about Lagospedia’s notoriety for publishing hate comments against the Igbo and asking them to be pushed out of the southwest, the handler altered the page from ‘Lagospedia’ to ‘Lagospidia’.
Another user then picked up the @Lagospedia handle as soon as the original @Lagospedia switched to @Lagospidia.
But, finally, @Lagospidia, the original @Lagospedia, was deactivated on X on Saturday.
Similalrly, Dada Olusegun, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Assistant on Social Media, had been following Lagospedia before it was outed.
In Friday’s statement, Sanwo-Olu claimed his attention had been drawn to Lagospedia’s July 27 post on August 2. He then called on the security agencies to promptly investigate those behind the handle.
This only came after Sam Amadi, a former chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), petitioned Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, asking for everyone connected to the handle to be investigated and prosecuted on July 31.
Lagospedia’s final call against Igbos violates Section 41, Subsection 1 of the Nigerian Constitution, which states: Every citizen of Nigeria is entitled to move freely throughout Nigeria and to reside in any part thereof, and no citizen of Nigeria shall be expelled from Nigeria or refused entry thereby or exit therefrom.
Philipponzaghi: Tinubu is navigating a complex landscape. His intentions to address youth concerns may not be perfect, but let's give him a chance to turn words into action. Every leader faces hurdles; let's support progress where we can!
This ChatGPT menace again 😒
Oya, use other of your accounts repeat the same nonsense, then start liking yourself all over.
It is more ironic to expect a snake to give birth to a dove. Those who watched it reported that it was heavily edited and has cuts and join, reminiscent of prerecorded videos, reporting breaks in the videos here and there nah.
To think the speech was already leaked, showing everything was in play before then. The leaked speech wasn't even realistic.
A crowd of protesters were seen waving branches and chanting their discontent at the hardship with one voice.
In a bizzare show of unprovoked force, an armoured vehicle shot teargas canister in the midst of people, and proceeded to run into the crowd, leaving the protestors running for their dear lives. It is unsure how many citizens may have been mowed down by the speeding vehicle.
On the other lane of the road, policemen were seen dispersing the crowds by beating them inhumanely, using whatever weapons are within reach. The policemen ran after the crowd, beating up anyone they manage to come in contact with, especially those who fell while running away from the marauding policemen.
It can be recalled that a similar case of careless driving of a police armoured truck resulted in the death of a policeman in Katsina state.
This is every sane Nigerian now. Even if Dangote Refinery will be a monopoly, the Federal Government can fight this if they are so concerned by resurrecting our four dead refineries.
It will never make sense to favour imports at the exorbitant dollar price and shady roulette dealings when we have the crude and a local refinery. Allow Dangote breathe.
Salewa97: This one na classic case of the pot calling the kettle black.
They were the same people shouting and dancing when they thought the grass was greener on the other side. Now, hardship don catch them, they want to shift blame. APC is trying, but some people just like to complain for the sake of it.
Meanwhile, we dey push forward with our Jagaban, no retreat, no surrender!
It's easy for you to criticise since your 30k is sure. I hope this will not deny him his 2k at the end of the exercise 🙃
In what was a comical plot twist, an allegedly hired hand to join demonstrations against #endbadgovernance protest began to complain about the hardship on live TV.
The 'anti-protester' lamented about the very high cost of Garri, which is not so before the APC-years, and gave this as the reason for them coming out to air their complaints against the leadership
One of the anti-protesters covered his face with the yellow placard and whispered to him that he was talking nonsense and against the reason they were there for. He was shouted upon and almost attacked by his fellow demonstrators as the camera quickly moved away from the hilarious situation.
Meanwhile, did anyone notice the other dude on the left nodding to what he was saying?
It is clear that pretence cannot be sustained forever as the truth eventually shines through.
