Why don't they use the money to set up uninterrupted power supply and tackle hunger in the land? Why another highway project? What kind of misplaced priority is this? What a country!!! Botswana, a country once labelled the poorest country in the world, who gained independence 5 years later than Nigeria, now has a GDP per capita which is 3 times that of Nigeria. This is the result of eradicating corruption. Since 1960, only regression, no progression whatsoever. Na wa o! |
Padding budget and yet raising VAT. What a joke of a country . |
Hi Armstrong34, I recently saw your emails. I don't live in Clausthal-Zellerfeld anymore. It is quite strange that the ABH in Goslar has not responded to the German embassy since October 25th concerning your study visa application. Usually a maximum of 3 months is typical of them and December 2019 is a holiday galore for them. You should get a response soon (hopefully before the end of March unless the coronavirus pandemic persists). Be patient. Wishing you all the best. Armstrong34: |
pompido:Thanks for the information provided to prospective students willing to come over to study in Germany. Also note that BAfoeG is mostly available to German students/EU students. It is rarely available to African students (unless you have PR). African students with residence permit for studying cannot receive BAfoeG benefits. DAAD or STUBE is a better option for African students but be aware that holders of these scholarships must (in most cases) go back to develop their respective countries. |
Don't worry, your AM will come. Mine took 2 months and a week or two although without SL and this was years ago. They need to confirm your SL. All the best and see you soon in Clausthal-Zellerfeld. ![]() Nuella45: |
KINGCEEZAH:Having a good knowledge of the German language prior to graduation is important although most international companies in Germany (e.g. Siemens, BASF, German Aerospace Centre [DLR] etc.) are more than willing to hire young foreign graduates who speak English and have limited German language skill upon graduation. On the long run, one is expected to learn German over time if he/she wants to work and live in Germany. The main challenge in landing a job after studies is skill-related. Imagine having a skill that is on-demand yet rare to find (e.g. programming with Python, C++, Java or being a specialist in MATLAB, AutoCAD, PDMS etc.), everytime you submit a CV, I can guarantee you that you will be given an opportunity for an interview in English. So my advice to those coming to study in Germany will be to focus on STEM-related courses and DO ALL YOU CAN to master a software skill (either in Nigeria or in Germany via internships or HiWis). I hope this was helpful. |
Received invite mail yesterday. Applied for reservoir engineer position. What is their skill test like? |
Ha?! Abeg.. make I comot first before you start your craze. Rubbish! |
jidex4life:I applied for reservoir engineer position. |
jidex4life:My application status changed on the 18th of December to "Application under review". |
My application status recently changed to 'Application under review' as well. |

Adasandra50:Yes! How may I help you? |
mannimakerjnr:That's great. I guess your interviewer was in a good mood . I'm sure you will be admitted into the programme. You can start making plans for the entire visa process. |
mannimakerjnr:Cool. I don't really know much about the interview process for Drilling and Production Engineering but I could find out for you and give you a response sometime soon. I'm more familiar with the Reservoir Engineering Department interview process. All the same, I wish you the very best in your interview. P.S: When is it actually holding? |
mannimakerjnr:Hi mannimakerjnr. You will be added few minutes to an hour before the scheduled time for the interview (unless a new approach i'm unaware of is now in place). Prepare well for the interview and dazzle your audience. Besides, which discipline did you apply for? |
Obiwannn: Thank you sir for your very fast and objective reply. But I just have this one last question if you don't mind..Well, it is quite possible, but on the long-term, it might adversely affect your scholarly performance. Since you would need to work more hours than required over the course of the semester break, you might have to forfeit several classes. An internship or some sort of home scholarship would be a better option to relying solely on menial jobs. Your folks will have to help you out in such scenario. I am particularly skeptical about placing my e-mail in a public forum. Send your e-mail to my nairaland inbox. I would try to reach you on time. Take care bro. |
Obiwannn: Goodday @devmantic.. I must say I've read through all your posts and I've found very useful answers concerning some issues I needed to sort out.Hi Obiwannn. It's been a while since I last viewed this forum. "1. I'm confused between applying for Tu clausthal or university of stavanger Norway. A classmate of mine whom did his internship in Germany (dresdern) precisely is of the opinion that its better to study Msc PEE in Norway than to do it in Germany because Norway has much more oil reserves than Germany and it will be relatively easier to secure a job after studies in Norway than in Germany." I may not be able to give a precise answer on this but I will try to be as objective as I can. Your friend is right with regards to the current state of oil and gas reserve in Germany - it is practically dwindling. You do stand a chance of securing a job after graduation from both schools; however, with UniStavanger, I think you might get more job opportunities. "2. Like the poster who I also quoted asked you.. How did you get the €8000 to survive during your second year? Working while schooling? Internship? Please I'd love to know cos frankly my parents would not be able to afford sending me such money again... They would instead want me to be doing the sending lol... And I don't know if that my friend who did his IT in Germany is correct... He said during your second year you are required to do paid internships form which you can take care of your second year expenses... Pleas how true is this (moreover I looked up TUC's internships website and M.SC PEE was not among the listed departments who normally do internships)" I got a student job for the 1st semester (I worked in the Department). For the rest of the semesters, the doe I made from my internship was sufficient to keep me afloat. Let me stress one fact. Getting an internship could be challenging here as well. In my class, only about 46% of us got internships. In addition, getting an internship is NOT a prerequisite to passing the Masters Programme. Some students complete the programme without securing one. "3. Then lastly I have a question for you concerning Norway.. In Norway like Germany, you are also required to pay a certain some of money into foreign account per year.. So my question is for the second year how again can one get the money by himself overthere? (working? Internships?) Thank you sir as you help a brother find his feet." Hmm... This is a tough question. I am certain that students of UniStavanger are given the chance to take internships if they are able to secure one. Promising students who are unable to get internships are usually offered a student job at the Department. The professors secure their services for Scientific article writing, proof-reading, programming, experimental or simulation work, research among others. Others get any student job available e.g. Working in an automobile industry, waiters in restaurants and other menial jobs. The decision is yours to make. I hope all these were insightful and of immense help to you. Wishing u all the best. |
kingsmecca: Hello SPE!!! Please I need advice frm you guys, I'm an undergraduate in the department of Gas Engineering (400 level), I'm in a dilemma....dnt really know the elective course to choose btw Pipeline Technology and Offshore Technology by next year (final yr) that will give me an edge after graduation. Beside I love Drilling.Well, If you intend to major in piping engineering for masters or become a piping engineer, then you can opt for pipeline technology. I believe pipeline technology studies entails grasping important or developing technologies crucial to the successful construction of pipelines while ensuring safety and efficiency of pipeline operations. On the other hand, Offshore Technology studies will undoubted keep you within the framework of the upstream Oil and Gas activity (I presume Gas in "department of Gas Engineering" is actually Natural Gas). Furthermore, the opportunity to delve into specific upstream disciplines like subsea engineering, pipeline engineering e.t.c which is a rewarding career prospect in this era of "uneasy-to-extract oil" becomes more likely. Unfortunately, time constraints will prevent me from elaborating further on this issue. My advice to you is to opt for Offshore Technology but then it is where your heart lies that you truly enjoy contentment .The choice is up to u.. ![]() |
adegbitetunji: Chief, do u know if petroleum geology MSc is offered at Clausthal??I have no idea... |
adegbitetunji: Thank you chief...around what month is the interview and what should I expect with regards to the interview? Kindly note that I applied in January.I really cannot remember precisely but I believe its in the month of march/april. For the interview, know why you want to study in TU Clauthal, Why Germany, Strength and Weaknesses, Some petroleum engineering basics like darcy's law, fundamental EOS e.t.c |
adegbitetunji: Hi, does anyone know the time tu clausthal release admission offers??It depends on the time of application. If you applied before the end of the first deadline (March 15) and emerged successful in your interview, u would get it around May (in soft copy) and probably June in hard copy. |
amblessede: @ dev, pls can i make the motivation letter handwritten. Sorry, this should b the last question... hw easy hv u grabbed the german language? i believe the first payment of about 8000euros is for the first yr, hw do u survive in the second yr?"can i make the motivation letter handwritten" No... You should type it.. "hw easy hv u grabbed the german language?" Well, i haven't taken the language learning serious but i will do that soon... It's learnable if u put your mind into it "i believe the first payment of about 8000euros is for the first yr, hw do u survive in the second yr?" you will have to get extra money for the second year... approximately another €8000 for the second year... |
amblessede: @ DEV, SORI ABEG NO VEX. IN MY REFERENCE LETTERS IT IS STATED THAT THE MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION IS ENGLISH. DOES THAT SUFFICE OR DO I STILL NEED A SEPARATE LETTER TO STATE THAT?That will suffice. I had the same as well. |
amblessede: @ amblessede, wow.... too many questions... I hope i can answer all.. ![]() "For the lateral entry for nigerians, 3.8 was required but i made 3.61 in mechanical. do i stand a chance, pls advise" Well, i will encourage u to apply first... if u possess on-the-job experience related to oil & gas, that might just help u secure an admission on the long run... "the list of required docs for certification is so long, even passport pic dey sef. thru ur own xperience, whioch ones xactly did u certify" I really do not understand what u mean by certified docs but i know u will be requested to send your original transcripts, copies of certificates, reference letters if any, CV, personal statement and the likes and a recent passport photograph during the shortlisting phase.. I submitted all docs required of me.. At the embassy, after securing an admission, some of these docs will be requested for confirmation, i had to submit all originals as well for verification. "finally, hw do u rate ur study experienc so far" Well, i did give it a 4/5 for a petroleum engineering institute that is still gaining grounds internationally. "wot r the job prospects looking like. any offers yet" The job market is tight and competitive worldwide. Every graduate of the programme stands a chance to get a job but the competition is high. High standards are set by oil & gas coys particularly when qualified candidates are numerous. There are limited number of oil and gas coys here (probably 10 in all). This is about the case here. I was opportuned to have an internship and i am currently awaiting interview results for graduate trainee roles. So u stand a chance as well if u excel HARD in your studies. "i hv a got msc in thermal power and fluid engineering in university of manchester, wot do u think. shld i pursue it" I am not so good at pointing a career path for individuals.. I believe every person has a dream-job or career-line they intend to follow.. If you believe deep within yourself that thermal power and fluid engineering is the path you want to take, then go for it.. I would recommend you request a career advice path from Okeyz. He is a more informed person u should channel this question to.. I hope i made your day ![]() |
amblessede: @ dev: since my univ. studies is in english can i forget takin TOEFL?@ amblessede, You don't need TOEFL for admission though it would be nice to have one. Just a letter justifying that your medium of instruction during Bachelors studies is English Language would do just fine. |
