ewagbamio: Hi dexterinc2003, Congrats+++ on your grant. i went through your posts and i realize you are a Medical Doctor going for MPH. Please correct me if i'm wrong but i assume the ultimate aim is to stay and practice in OZ? I'm a GP here in Nigeria too and i am thinking along the same path but i was planning to nail the AMC 1 before making my move.
i would like to ask you a few questions:
1.Have you taken the AMCs or you plan on taking them when you get over there?
2.Do you think the coursework of the MPH program will leave enough time to practice if one were to get a Job while running the program?
3.Do you know of any Clinical Masters or PGD course that accepts international Students? Let me clarify this; I'm very interested in Programs like Masters in GP/Family Medicine or any branch of clinical medicine for that matter. I have googled till i'm blue in the face but all the clinical Masters i come across have one restriction or the other---most simply do not accept intakes on student visa.
4. Can one switch from being a full time to a part time student during the course of the program?
Thanks and congrats once again Thanks once again... 1.I plan writing the AMC exams, which can only be done in australia. 2.Doing a coursework, working and studying is not easy, but its achievable if you are focused. 3.different schools offer different varieties of medical-related masters courses eg masters in pharmaceutical medicine, health management, int. Public health, public health, forensic mental health, reproductive medicine etc....the choice is yours(except you where searching for what does not exist) 4.No...you cannot switch to part-time,it nullifies your visa. Hope that helped. |

lighthouse4real: @dexterinc2013: Thanks for the reply. I actually did the medicals prior the submission (20th April) and all the documents were perfect. I made use of PFL anyway due to the school (Newcastle). Anyway, waiting for the best by God's grace. ok then, pfl is good enough, actually the best i know,i will suggest you call the pfl officer assigned to you,and if you used a form 965a,they are obliged to contact your case officer on your behalf.i believe you will feel much better about your application if you do so and it will speed things up for you. |

lighthouse4real: Good afternoon all. This thread is really great. Very educative. @missakomaye: I lodged my application on the 21st April with my family for student visa (573) SVP. Will like to communicate with you. This waiting is getting too long for me. Later From my little experience, 573svp takes about 2-4weeks to get the grant, though a friend of mine applied on the (30th of april and got his grant on 11th may)i will still say you are still within the time limit.other factors also counts, like if you didnt upload your medicals before applying and the fact that you are not going alone. You should hear from them soon, this is the 3rd week which is a bit long, but then,i will advise you wait a week more before contacting your case officer. You applied about the same time as missakomaye,so maybe she could also have something to say |

missakomaye: Please guys I need advice. I have a friend in Aussie, I am supposed to stay with her for a while before I find my footing when I get there. She has sasked for a favor and here it is. She wants me to withdraw my application I had submitted since 2 weeks now and reapply again including her cousin as a my dependent. She promises she has a contact in student visa that assures my visa but I can't go through that visa stress again. I need her help too when I get there so is it too selfish not to want to withdraw my application? I know for a fact she has a contact but the hassles too much abeg.
Has anyone you known withdrawn and reapplied without hassle. If there was a way to skip some steps is wat I am asking DO NOT TRY IT!!!!!!....I REPEAT,DO NOT TRY IT!!!! I thought you were applying for a student visa?that plus the fact that you are not travelling with any of your family is good enough reason why your initial stay will be considerably easy, forget about your 'friend' for now, except your friend is more important than your australian dream.....plus im sure you yourself knows something is fishy....im already using style to wait for your visa grant sef....cheerz |

coldgate: @dexterinc2003: Congratulations. I tap into your testimony. How many copies of your International Passport did you submit? Did your institution arrange OSHC for you?
Tanx. Thanks sis,you will surely get the visa, although my initial gragra(hapiness) has calmed down, now its all about last minute prep. I took 4 copies or so,1 was notarised. I arranged my oshc,(medibank) 15 months, visa spans over oshc duration. |

omooba2015: @bossladymo, Good day to you, please I need your quick response on this issue, I through the questions to dexterinc2003, maybe you also can have an idea about issue getting PR when getting to Australia. My course is 1.5yrs,... Hope is very easy to get PR, and @dexterinc2003,I have no body in Australia, hope that will not disturb my application. Pls your contribution. Thanks Your visa has nothing to do with accomodation,or knowing any1 in australia, getting an accomodation is the last step, try to focus on how to get a visa first, many ppl have gone to aus without having friends or family there, but one thing is for sure, going with your family is going to be more expensive, try learn about all the visa types and which 1 best fits your situation, also try to read previous pages of this thread to avoid asking questions already answered in d past. |

University of new south wales,i think it should be among the top 5 universities in australia, and top 50 in the world. I applied for masters in public health (postgraduate),only problem is that the scholarship availability is close to none, (except ausaid, and for phds)....its quite expensive and i think being a medical doctor helped boost my chances of being admitted. I know quite a few nigerians there,so yes admission should be considerably easy...in fact easier than all others i know of. |

Secondly did u also submit copy of any of ur siblings international passport wit ur application? The visa is streamlined (svp)...means no statement of account,no PCC required....my school doesnt require ielts,as long as you where trained in english and your nigerian school can testify to that....i only submitted my form 157a,956a,copies of int.passport, yellow card, credentials, coe, oshc,cv,previous appointment letters, statement of purpose, and did my medicals before applying (thanks to nairaland)...i applied late on a friday, and it took 17 days to get the grant.
