FoodHow Families In Kaduna Devices Alternative Recipe Due To Tomato Scarcity. by Dezzx(op): 9:27pm On May 28, 2016
Families in Kaduna are finding alternatives to tomato in their kitchens after scarcity pushed up price of tomatoes.
Carrot, cucumber, ginger and crayfish are growingly replacing tomato on home recipes women have been willing to share with Daily Trust.
Faced with scarcity and high cost of tomatoes, Halima Ibrahim unlisted tomato from among ingredients for her stew.
"I now blend carrot and cucumber, mix in fresh onions and pepper to make my stew since the tomato scarcity started,” she said.
“And when you taste the stew, I can assure you that it tastes better than stew made with tomato.”
The scarcity hit after more than 200 tomato farms were ravaged by a virus called Tuta absolute, which has since become known as ‘Tomato Ebola”
It has led to import of canned tomato paste, many of them from China, and considered substandard, prompting a call by the Association of Agricultural Products and Equipment Manufacturers in Nigeria (APEMAN) for a nationwide ban on tomato paste import.
“Tomato is now too expensive for me to buy since the tomato Ebola occurred, and instead of me to buy tinned tomato that I do not know how it is produced or where it was brought from, I prefer to use carrots and cucumber. At least my family will be healthy,” said Ibrahim.
Jamila Aliyu has replaced tomato with ginger, crayfish, onions and pepper to make her stew. "In fact, my children like the new stew better than the old. If you see them licking their plates, you will be shocked and I think even when the situation improves, I will stick to my recipe."
Naomi Kantiyok, a housewife from Barnawa Area of Kaduna state said, "Today, tomatoes is a no-go area because it is no longer affordable, a basket that used to cost N1,500 now goes for N40,000. If I buy the basket of tomatoes, what will I cook it with since all the money is used to get just one food item?
"What I do now is buy tinned tomato that is known to me, not the new ones that are springing up because of the scarcity, then I will grind fresh pepper and onions to fry my stew. It comes out very nice and it expands more than stew made from fresh tomatoes."
The tomato scarcity has left Ibrahim Mohammed with a decision four times difficult.
"I have four wives. How then can I manage this situation if I have to buy tomatoes worth N3,500 for each of my wives for just one pot of soup? Times are hard, so we just have to make do with what we have," he said.
He resolved to stop buying tomatoes for stew and instructed his wives to devise any other means to cook jellof rice with tomato paste or palm oil.
Food vendor Maman Do, switched to tomato paste after deciding she could “afford tomatoes any longer because my business is suffering.”
“I cook food but I don't make anything, rather I incur losses, so I have shifted to using tomatoes paste for all my cooking including stew, soup, jollof rice and pepper soup especially know that onions and pepper are being included in some tomato paste."
She also noted the influx of several brands of tomato paste, she agreed. “But I do not patronize them, I buy the tomato paste that I have been using over the years because one does not know what is contained in the other ones."
Margaret Yakubu planned ahead for the season, buying tomatoes on the cheap and drying them to last through the scarcity.
"I normally buy a lot of tomatoes during dry season because that is when it is cheapest. I cannot store it in my refrigerator because there is erratic power supply, so I dry the tomatoes and store in sacks until the rains set in and the fruits become scarce. Just as if I knew tomato Ebola was coming.”

PoliticsI Conveyed Guns To Lagos APC Campaign Venues – Cultist by Dezzx(op): 9:32am On Apr 22, 2016
A self-confessed cultist, Muhideen Ibrahim, who was arrested by the Lagos State Police Command, has said he conveyed guns to the All Progressives Congress campaign venues during the 2015 electioneering on the Lagos Island.

Ibrahim, 29, from Kwara State, added that he took two pump-action rifles to the governorship primaries held at the Tafawa Balewa Square in the Onikan area for the “protection of my gang’s candidate”.

However, the state APC denied knowing him, adding that Ibrahim could be a mad man. The party advised the police to bring him to justice.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the Denton Police Division arrested Ibrahim on Tuesday from a hideout in the Ijora Badia area.

It was gathered that a locally-made pistol and two expended cartridges were recovered from him.

Our correspondent learnt that Ibrahim, aka Oginni, had been on the police’s watch list since last year for his alleged involvement in the murder and violence on the Lagos Island.

It was learnt that another suspected cultist – Sodiq Kolade – had earlier been arrested by the police for alleged possession of guns.

He was said to have denied the allegation, but confessed that he knew those who had guns.

Kolade was said to have led the police to Ibrahim’s hideout where he was arrested.

Speaking with PUNCH Metro, Ibrahim, who confessed that he joined the Eiye Confraternity in 2007, said the guns his gang took to campaign venues were not for violence, but for protection of their governorship candidate.

He said, “I live in the Ijora Badia area, and I am known as Oginni. One of the boys in the area, Sodiq (Kolade) was the one who brought policemen to my house. I had a friend called Dagbe, and he lived with me in Ijora.

“He and I belonged to the same gang. During the last general elections in the Onike, Yaba area, we had guns. Anytime there was campaign on the island, they would contact me and other members of my group. We belonged to the APC. In the governorship primaries, we had our candidate.

“Dagbe had two pump-action guns. I conveyed guns to campaign venues three times. It was not for violence. It was just to protect ourselves and our candidate. I was paid N5,000 for each trip.

“I joined the Eiye Confraternity in 2007. The person who initiated me has travelled. He is now in Malaysia. His name is Sammy. So, we used the guns to only protect our candidate. I still belong to the party. I work at the council level to collect tolls from okada and Keke Napep riders in Ijora.”

On the other hand, Kolade, who lived on Kano Street, Oyingbo, told our correspondent that he led policemen to Ibrahim’s hideout when the policemen insisted that he (Kolade) had guns.

He said, “I know Oginni because he used to move with my elder brothers. When the police arrested me, they insisted that I had guns. I told them I did not have guns, but I could take them to someone who had guns. So, I took them to Oginni’s place. I belong to Dagbe and Soko’s boys.”

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said the command would not relent in ridding the state of criminals.

He said, “He is one of the leaders of a notorious cult in Ebute-Meta. He and six others were nabbed by the police. Some are still on the run, but they will be arrested too.”

The spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Joe Igbokwe, however, said the suspect’s mental state should be examined, adding that the party did not breed hoodlums.

He said, “We do not know this hoodlum. We do not know what he is talking about. We do not know whether he is a mad man. You also do not know his mental state. Let the suspect face the law. We are not part of this. Our party is not made up of hoodlums.

“Did he show you his APC membership card? He has to produce a proof of membership. Please, ignore that man.”

Selekeowei Larry, counsel to Godsday Orubebe, former minister of Niger Delta affairs, on Wednesday, put on a display of aggression at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

Larry tussled verbally with Danladi Umar, chairman of the CCT, when Umar said that he would only give him 30 minutes to cross-examine a witness after which his case would be adjourned for the trial of Senate President Bukola Saraki to continue.

In a fit of rage, Orubebe’s counsel countered the judge’s statement, saying Saraki’s case was not more important than his.

He went on to insist, by shouting, that his case must proceed without latitude before Saraki’s.

But Umar cautioned him, saying “talk to us in a manner that is dignifying”.

Larry retorted: “We cannot be pushed aside because there is another case on the cause list.”

Visibly angry, Umar thundered: “We will proceed with your case tomorrow morning. Call the second case.”

Saraki is facing multiple counts of false declaration of assets while Orubebe is facing a single count of the same alleged offence.

Orubebe once tried to disrupt the collation of the presidential election results in 2015 in Abuja. He caused a farcical scene of which scenes of aggression are now casually called “Orubebe” in the social media.

You can actually take your MSc as a working experience.

NSE application depends largely in how your could present your case and defend you technical report.

Your undergraduate or MSc project could be re-package to fit as a technical report as it forms part as of your experience.

Though to be sincere, you have more to proof to the oral panel if you haven't worked at all as an engineer.
thanks for the info. bro.
