EducationRe: OAU Vs UI, Which Is The Best? by dharrey2012: 7:31am On Jan 22, 2017
I had my BSc in OAU, it was not easy because it really was a rigorous ordeal. I am on the verge of completing my MSc programme in Ui. the truth is Ui teaches very well at all levels, OAU does not.
In OAU, you compete for everything with the best of the bests, which makes you wise up, and prepares you for anything life brings.

Ui is filled with babies, social life next to zero, they treat students like zombie that must be controlled, that sure doesn't happen in OAU.
Car TalkRe: Disastrous Impacts Of Overheating by dharrey2012: 8:01am On Dec 04, 2016
I experienced this just on Friday. It was such a bitter experience, infact I just picked up the car yesterday after changing Water pump and gasket.

However, I have a question. I noticed the car didn't accelerate as it used to? Its sluggish now. Can this be associated with overheating incident?

Car TalkUrgent Help Needed - Engine Of Doesn't Start After Long Trip by dharrey2012(op): 8:32pm On Nov 06, 2016
First, I must appreciate you all on this section of the forum. Its been of great help for more than 3years now.
My Car is a golf3, 1.8L Engine, Automatic. Just about a week ago, I had a long trip of about 10hours straight. On getting to Lagos, I parked, but to restart the engine 10mins after, the engine didn't start. I had to force the accelerator before the engine came on, but on engaging the gear, it went off again. I left it for like two hours, and it was fine again, did the return journey without any problem.

However, just today, I experienced thesame issue, after turning off the engine, it refused to start, which is so unusual. What could be wrong with the car?

I will really appreciate your help. Thank you!

Just to add to what has been said, I use a golf3 1.8L engine Auto, I spend like 1500, 10L for 100km. Which I think is great. I once did Akure-Ibadan-Lag with only 25L, which is great.
I spend an average of 6k-7k monthly for fuelling (home to work and just one out of town trip....osogbo-Ib)
Car TalkGeneral Any Policeman Checking Vehicle Particulars Is On Illegal Duty–aig by dharrey2012(op): 7:20pm On Oct 19, 2016
Mr Dan Bature, an Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police in Charge of Zone 11 comprising Oyo, Osun and Ondo states, says any policeman checking vehicle particulars on the highways is on illegal duty.

Bature said this on Wednesday in Ibadan during a two-day familiarisation visit to Oyo State.

He said that the duty of the police was not to check vehicle particulars but to ensure safer roads.

Bature warned policemen against blocking high ways, saying police patrol vehicles were not supposed to be toll gates.

He said the Inspector General of Police (IGP) was committed to changing the negative image of the police and supporting the anticorruption war of the Federal Government.

Bature advised officers unable to key into the laudable initiatives of the IGP to resign from the force.

He said that a lot was expected by the public from the police, adding that this informed the monitoring of officers.

“The Inspector General of Police is determined to improve on your welfare and pursue the increment of your salary.

“But this can only be achieved when the people have good perception about the police, “Bature said.

Earlier, Sam Adegbuyi, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, said that the officers were dedicated and patriotic.

Adegbuyi said that in view of the population of Oyo State, the command needed to create three more Area Commands in addition to the existing four commands.

He commended the AIG, Oyo government and the Police Community Relation Committee for the successes recorded so far in the fight against crime. (NAN)

This is the kind of attitude in youths that makes me have doubt about the future of this nation!

I voted for JEG in 2007

Mind you they both contested the two elections!!! There is a message there if only you can understand it and stop all this blame game that won't move the nation forward

Your last line though, you just murdered someone. I would've been happy if it's only those who voted and supported ds incompetent government that will feel d burn but sadly we're all in it. angry
That is just the reality now! However, remember, we are here because the last government disappointed us largely! (Let us not even go into that)
At this point, I believe each and everyone of us has a role to play, we need to raise our inner consciousness!
Am sure many of us will be shocked if you ask those youths pointing fingers towards both the past and present president, what they will do if they become president!
All of us cannot be presidents or Local government chiarmen, but it will surprise you how millions of youths cannot even manage their bookshelf talk less of a car! Lol
PoliticsIt Is Time We Start Questioning The Current Government by dharrey2012(op): 11:52pm On Sep 16, 2016
I think its high time we started questioning the current government!

If your are employed in an office as a new member of staff, and your predecessor was sacked because he ran the office poorly, don't you think its a big concern if you are still complaining how bad your predecessor ran the office 16Months ago?
I am sure in a sane/private company, the board will be preparing another sack letter!
My Concerns
1. Same Mistakes we have been making that got the nation into recession are repeated again - Quick Fix approach of governance
2. Even after a year, nothing substantial has been done to basic amenities: Power Supply, HealthCare, Water, Transportation!
3. If Dangote can run several plants in Nigeria successfully, why can't Nigeria government run 3 refineries to solve fuel issue?

Obasanjo told us, we needed to be patient, same with Yaradua, Jonathan and now, are we to be patient again with no foundation for a better nation?

I am not a Wailer or a PraiseSinger!
I am a Nigerian!
Car TalkRe: Toyota Camry 1988 Or A Golf 3 ,which Should I Go For As An Msc Student by dharrey2012: 2:00pm On Aug 23, 2016
I drive a Golf3 which I bought during my masters programme, naija used, from a nairalander.
As far as am concerned, I have not had any issue with the car since I bought it four months ago, infact, it sounds so cool and I have done 10,000km in that short time. (I travel to different southwestern states almost every weekend from Ibadan)

I believe the toyota will be great too, because I have had stories about it. I just want to correct notions by some people here that golf3 has this problem or the other, its a simple car, that handles well on the road.

Just ensure you do proper inspection before buying either of the two cars, they are great choices!
Car TalkRe: Did You Know Bad Roads & Over Speeding Are Not The Major Causes Of Car Accidents by dharrey2012: 4:56am On Aug 13, 2016
This is a very poor PR stunt. How will you say Over-speeding and bad roads are not the major cause of road accidents. Then what are the major causes? Shock absorbers? I wanted to ignore this post, but my conscience won't let me because you may end up misleading some people.
As much as you want to sell your brand, you should ensure you do such with correct facts and figures.
All over the world, RTA(Road Traffic Accident) is caused largely by over-speeding (as high as 60percent in some countries).
PLEASE MAKE necessary corrections in your post.

I urge people to avoid over-speeding first, and ensure proper maintenance and safety measures on their car.

Over which roads? MPG estimates don't factor in constant deceleration and acceleration to avoid potholes from damaging our cars.
It was largely on the high way. I did lagos to Ibadan and to Akure in between. I have just been having a feeling that fuel consumption may be on the high side.

Also, what are the suggestions for me to tune the car up and observe if there will be any difference?
Thank You

menstrualpad:
Your usage:
400km---50L

8km------1L

12.5L------100km

But Standard factory from http://www.auto-data.net/en/?f=showCar&car_id=8719

Combined consumption---- 7.6L-----100km
so for 400km -----30.4L
for combined consumption......
however other factors comes to play.... driving style, tires, engine conditions and quality of fuel, dispensing measures etc....

see gazzuzz for a tune up
Thank you so much for this information. I have gone through the link and I understand much better now. Would have loved to see Oga Gazzuzz right away, but I am not in Lagos.

To achieve something close to this tune up, what are the things I can ask my mechanic to do? I am already planing doing general servicing! But I will appreciate if I can get some real pointers.

Good day everyone,
Nice job you guys are doing on this forum.
I have been trying to find out how economical my car is in terms of fuel consumption. Just about a week ago, I had my fuel tank filled up....
I have since cover 400km and 50litres was consumed (with AC). Is this considered economical?
My car is a Golf MK3, Automatic with Mileage of 180k.

I will appreciate all you comments. Thanks in anticipation!

Car TalkRe: Can I Buy A Good Car With 300,000 To 350,000naira by dharrey2012: 8:56am On May 23, 2016
Let me briefly share my recent experience on getting a car on Nairaland maybe it will help in making up your mind.
Two months ago, I set out to buy a naija used car for 400k, I got a lot of options (Mostly Mazdas and Hondas), but I was bent on getting a good one.
I called so many people even here on nairaland, after much search, I met a man here who wanted to sell his very good golf3, I went for it straight for 400k, the car turned out to be a very good buy with no fault at all apart from servicing and changing plugs.
I have made four good trips with the car without fixing anything.

My advice is, with 350k, go for a golf3. A lot of people will give you different hondas for that amount, and Toyotas are too expensive for your budget.

I wish you all the best!

Interesting thing about youths in Nigeria is how dumb some of us can be. Thesame set of people who argued here for several months claiming those school girls were never kidnapped are the same people analysis Buhari's response to Chibok's issue.
