I find it hard to believe that a lot of people don't know The difference between a ram and a goat. A rat and a rabbit/squirrel. A butterfly and a moth. A lion and a tiger. A buffalo/deer and a cow. A pig and a warthog. A duck and a geese. 1

I just find it unbelievable.... Are people actually genuinely ignorant of the names of these animals? Because these animals look strikingly different and it just shocks me that someone wld think they are all the same.

I was walking my 7 month old male GSD puppy yesterday at around 4pm. It rained so the weather was quite awesome for walking. I observed my puppy was growling at people looking too good to be true. I went to buy some things so we strolled together.

On our way back home, there was this loose Rottweiler dog sitting in front of a compound by the road. I wondered why a person would leave such a dog out on the street with the gate opened and dog unleashed. I was considering turning back, but the way home is that way and the next turn is quite a long way. So I decided to go further without caring about the rott.

The Rott charged us.. and stood in front of us growling. My pup also was growling at the dog. Then the rott attacked. I unleashed my puppy and let him wrestle the rott. He fought the rott and actually put down the rott but the rott hurt him too. They hurt themselves. The rott ran into his compound. I had to call a friend to come with his car or a bike to carry my pup as he couldn't walk again.

The useless owner of the foolish rott came out and began to shout at me. He said i was going to pay for the damages my 7 month boy did to his rott without talking about my own pup. I was so angry. Though I sorted things out with the foolish man as he also apologised later at night when we met again.

I am so thankful that my little puppy is alive. The rott hurt my boy. He broke the bone on his front paw. Though I took him to my vet immediately and the vet said he will be fine. He is with the vet.(overnight) I just remembered him.

Now vet demanded 15k from me. Because of one savage dog. 15k I did not plan for. I had to give him all the 8k with me and balance him tomorrow.

From the bolded, there's not much difference between you and the owner of the rott. You jeopardized the life of your puppy by voluntarily releasing him to fight a rott. I hope you've learnt your lesson.

This kind of cases will become less frequent on NL when we all realize that there's a huge difference between a dog breeder and a puppy seller. Today someone opens a thread for selling rottweilers, tomorrow he has another thread selling fantabulous boerboels, next week he has slant GSDs that he claims will make you shout hallelujah. Yet again on another thread he has lhasa for sale. Have we paused to think where he gets the time to breed all the dogs he advertises? He does not have the time simply because he does not breed! The truth is that he sells puppies to us (the gullible and greedy among us very well included) just for the profit therein. A middleman.

Bobbysaxxy and Magpies and their likes are puppy sellers and we shouldn't expect anything more from them. They are simply in the business to turn a profit and in doing so, make a living. I dare to say that they are not bothered with maintaining breed standards. They do not care with profiling intending dog owners. What you do with your puppy after paying them is up to you, purely none of their business. To them, its just about the money. One deal concluded, move on to the next!

Why did I highlight greedy above? Let's face it, it is only greed that will make you jump at an offer of 57k for a rottweiler. Come on! Red flags should be raised na, haba! Magpies was absolutely right when he said you get what you pay for. Simply put, when you are offered chicken at the price of fowl, run! However, we do see cases of quality pups being offered at moderate prices purely at seller's discretion.

My two pence for intending dog owners:

- do some basic research on the breed you intend to buy. Join a dog whatsapp group (avoid ones overrun by sellers). Ask relevant questions.
- when buying for the first time, do not buy a puppy that's less than 2 months of age. No matter how convincing the seller sounds.
- when a deal is too good to be true, it really is NOT true

Lastly, the two guys I mentioned above have at some time or another had quite good looking pups for sale, I will give it to them but the word for every intending buyer here is CAUTION.

But whoever has the amount you refer to as "mere" should be able to put a call through as the money for airtime is not up to a fraction of "mere" .
Talking about keeping the puppy, oh well people who loved what they see would definitely put a call through knowing fully well that the price is not the only detail they wish to gather.
Different strokes for different folks. Automobiles you know isn't and has never been for kids and as such even if price is not stated, you know the range. But since the money needed to get one a dog is mere, we do not like to state it and if you cannot spare airtime to call and enquire, perhaps mere is relative- thus ranging from 150k-500k but eluding money for airtime

Your response, as well-penned as it is, does not justify the reason you are requesting to be called to answer a few simple questions about your puppy. I believe you did so simply 'cause you assumed it's the norm for puppy sellers on NL.

This pet sales section on NL baffles me. You see cars on the auto section advertised with their features, location and prices clearly stated. Millions of naira too. Here someone has a puppy of between a mere 150 - 200k and he asks me to call him over a few questions.

Don't mislead the OP, you are a dog seller NOT a dog breeder. He requested for advise on breeding.

@OP, am not a breeder myself so I don't have much to tell you. However, in all my time in keeping dogs and getting to know other people who do, I have come to realize that the more successful breeders are those ones who specifically breed just one or two breeds and have carved a niche for themselves in doing so. Beginning with the four breeds you mentioned on your post may be very demanding for a beginner. My two pence, start with a single breed or two and get some experience on it before expanding to more breeds. I look forward to seeing your threads when your breeding activities kick off. Good luck.

He has succeeded in putting up a resounding deceit campaign over the years posing as a breeder of a broad spectrum of dog breeds.
Churning out puppy/dog adverts with frenzied momentum and always ascribing them to his kennel making me wonder how a solitary kennel can be that productive.
For a regrettable moment, even I fell victim to this individual's antics and true to the OP's assertions a day came when I sought the truth of my puppy's parentage but all I got was a barrage of false information which spurred me to conduct personal investigation until I unveiled the actual truth. Trust me.. The truth was distasteful to say the least. However the deal had been sealed already so yours faithfully is now being compelled to make the best of the situation after doling out a substantial amount for a pedigree pup. But as the saying goes no need crying over spilt milk... just have to man up and move on.

Regarding him becoming a beast, follow these steps once he clocks 8 weeks. Still spend time with him for now till 8 weeks. Then at 8 weeks:

- Build a very small, tiny cage at which he can barely feel himself. Keep him there. Ignore his cry. Only go there to feed him and leave. You may bring him out once in a while for a few puppy play. So he won't die there.

- Assault him if he wagg his tail at another person. Let him know wagging his tail in friendship to someone else is an abomination. Everyone is a threat so his tail should be straight and stiff at anyother person. Ensure that when you assault him his tail doesn't go in between his legs, don't do it to scare him, do it to anger him. Make sure his hackles (hair/fur on his back) raise and his body is stiff.

- Put something that provokes him in front of the cage and leave it there. It would continue to aggravate him. Making him mad.

- Do not let anyone touch him.

- Do not touch his head.

- Do not call him with a sweet tone. Call with authority.

- if he is out of the cage, put him on a leash using a choke Chain. No collar. Raw chain.

- Feed him raw meat.

- Always approach him in a master manner. Do not come as a friend. Let him feel the Millitary regime.

- Cover the cage in a way he can barely see nothing but can smell. The madness will increase.

- Now release him at mid night and let him vent his anger on any thing that crawls such as rats or toads or whatever.

- When feeding him, bring something like a chicken or whatever and allow it eat from his plate and see his reaction. If he growls or attacks, good! Always do it. It would be increasing his anger at anything.

- At 6 months, bring a small female (rent it or buy) let him attempt to mount her, obviously she would reprimand him and it would anger him. Let her eat in his place to bring out his teeth and voice. Let him loose on her. Sacrifice her as a burnt offering for the cause.

- and finally, at 8 months, bring a stranger and let the stranger attack with a weapon. Make sure the stranger is wearing some pads as it is only staged not a real situation. Let the dog loose on him. Let the anger all out. The dog would never get enough so he would always be angry. An angry dog, is a beast.

Repeat the above steps until he is 1 year old. There you would have a beast.

Even at 1 year, still do it but reduce it. Because people will fear him, he won't need cage sef. No one would want to come in.

Please don't pay any attention to this nonsense. Seek advise from professional dog trainers.
